Self Titled album is one of the more underrated Deftones albums.

I've always thought that the section with Chinos vocals singing "Always" with the backing high guitar part is one of the best things the band has ever done. So simple, but so powerful and emotive
While I dig the whole song, that part gives me chills every time!
u mean tha part @ 3:59? 😍😍😍 i love it when they include such sections in they songs, lil moments & movements which add glimmers of hope n vulnerability 2 oppressively dark moods; they do somethin similar in tha bside "lovers" & at tha very end of "mascara" & tha hook of "street carp" & on several other tracks. theyre like quasi-changeups, xcept they dont actually change tha main (dark) theme, but they add 2 it slightly & reveal it to be more tender den it originally seemed

Last album with Chi doing backup screams. I don't recall Chi doing backup screams on SNW album. Plus, Chino was brutal with his vocal chords on this album (bloody cape, when girls telephone boys).
I agree though but I think SNW had the heaviest guitar riffs

This song has always been one of my favorites precisely for Abe's rhythm and sound on it.

This album was a big time "grower" for me. Coming off the success of White Pony, I didn't know what to make of the self titled album. It felt like a big departure, but something kept calling me back. It slowly grew to be maybe my favorite album of all time. It's Deftones staying true to what *they* wanted to do with their sound, a fitting album to be self titled.

Looking back this album is like a benchmark. You can hear Adrenaline right through to Gore.
White Pony was/is so great that at the time ST felt pretty underwhelming- and I felt that way for years until pretty recently when I realized how awesome the album is!
Same. It still isn't as good as White Pony (nothing is) but it is a solid album. It feels very...art.
@@rankrightseo I'm biased toward this album because it's pretty raw/dark and helped me though tough times. But I have no problem with crowning White Pony as the goat

This is my favorite song off the Album. It's all subjective.
When girls telephone boys would have been my choice from self titled but hoping you still play that one eventually. I still remember hearing that song live and how the riff hit so much heavier in person than on the album.

I hope he does one for bloody cape and hexagram as well. Self titled is such an underrated album, but I think it has some of deftones heaviest and darkest songs of all of their discography.

20 years later this is still one of my favorite songs.
I think self titled album is their absolute masterpiece, it's so incredibly well written, a journey through a desert city during the hottest summer, the extreme highs and lows of two young lovers, the uncertainty and excitement of a future yet to be told.
You're like some sort of fortune teller. You pretty much explained my entire experience with this album.

Recently got back into Deftones....I cant stop listening to everything of theirs. Like a whole new appreciation.
This was the first Deftones song I ever heard, was on a video game and I fell in love with this song quickly, and it's still hands down my favorite of theirs even after doing back through their entire catalog.

Oddly enough their self-titled record is my most loved one. I mean, I like all their work (minor exceptions applied) but that album in particular just hits closer to home somehow... Bloody Cape is a vibe and I strongly relate
