  • A 99 peso (2USD) hand crank generator with single USB port from CDRKING.
    I think these are either old stock with new packaging or a bulk buy from some old factory stock. The information written on the packaging doesn't match up with the dynamo and unlike normal CDRKING products which have the branding printed directly onto the plastic, these just have a cdrking sticker thrown onto them in a wonky fashion.
    When testing in the store, the first one was full of scratches, the second one was already broken and the third one was okay.
    The packaging says it can produce up to 6V 500mA which is around 3 watts but in actual fact it can only produce up to half a watt; making it pretty much useless.

      It's not that hand cranked generators can't work: It's just that particular one happens to be crap.

    I have the original version that has the light, it states can be used for one quick call if charging a cell phone, it was completely useless, it uses a capacitor not a battery, so not even suitable for a camping light.

    Where Did you Buy that Shell crank usb generator?

    • @GadgetAddict
      @GadgetAddict  8 лет назад

      +reginald56000 It was a freebie that Shell were giving away for all customers who had their oil changed in their car. But it's a generic hand crank which can be found on eBay :)

      +Yes I am Julia A Thank you :) I got it from a Shell gas station during an oil change. They often have freebies to draw more customers in for an oil change.

    hey thanks that last hand charger I have got one to never knew I could put a usb light on it mine is a light also the usb I never knew that same one but its no name brans did have a compass on it to broke ages ago its my emergency light I use my switch is worn some times I can get it to work have to push the leaver on it hard to the side then it charges the light thanks for that helped me out

    • @GadgetAddict
      @GadgetAddict  8 лет назад

      +Kriss Bartlett I'm glad you found out :) Mine is branded Shell but it's just a generic that they put their name on and gave away with oil changes. My one also broke after like 1 day! The little handle broke so I had to swap it for a wooden knob and the switch where you turn it between charging the internal light battery and outputting to USB doesn't switch properly so I also have to give it a bang lol. It's a shame because it's actually quite a smooth cranking motion and generates an okay amount of power. Just made really poorly and with cheap parts I guess.

      mine is nearly worn out over 10 yrs I used it there great I need to take apart the switch to charge by hand is worn out you flick it over then you can charge it some one gave it to me long ago its needed in the provinces as black out are a few thanks '

      +Anthony Besa They have another hand crank generator for sale. It's much larger so I'm guessing it generates more power. But to be honest, I've not really come across a good enough dynamo that generates enough power to be worth while. Considering how cheap powerbanks are and how much power they can hold, I think a hand crank generator only makes sense if you're going to be without electricity for days at a time or if you DIY a very large hand crank generator.

      +Gadget Addict I dont buy cdrking 500+ peso product s

    • @GadgetAddict
      @GadgetAddict  8 лет назад

      +Anthony Besa Hmm yeah that might be for the best LOL. Although some of their solar stuff is okay and goes over that price. Have you consider some simple solar setup for the blackouts? Are you having daily rolling brownouts cos the hydro generators have dried up?

    Nice review. Honestly there is so much crap out there you cant believe any manufacturer specs these days. At least not the Chinese ones (not being racist its just like with Chinese powerbanks saying they are 15000mah but are really 5000mah and unlike Europe or the US they would be sued for doing it). Is there anything like this available in a larger version such as a bicycle attachment for generating energy off grid. Might as well stay fit during the apocalypse :)

    • @GadgetAddict
      @GadgetAddict  8 лет назад +2

      +RenovatioJuris Yeah it gets annoying lol. When it comes to powerbanks, cdrking are hit and miss on their honesty of the specs. There's a few gems in there, but you have to find them. They do sell a larger hand crank but after you use hand cranks for awhile, you quickly realise they're not very practical lol. It takes a LOT of work to generate very little power and most of the cheap ones use plastic gears that grind down after very little use. It's a nice thing to have around for the apocalypse but I'd say to try find one with metal gears if possible.

  • @DobleWhiteAndStabley

    maybe a virticle windmill design with it connected? holy crap nevermind. I think I'll just stick to something a bit more practical. like a real dynamo.

    You are absolutely right. This product does not work at all. I purchased this and it didn't work for anything of mine. People really need to be aware. Someone is making money (wrongfully) off of this product. Truly be aware. Do NOT purchase this product.

  • @zodiacfml

    Money grab. :) I have a similar one with an Omni branded flashlight around 10 years ago. The crank feature is virtually useless even it does work due to the effort required.
    I had better success with LED flashlights that are mechanically powered. The first one was the flashlight that requires a shake, quite useful, but expensive. The second one I got for free from a construction supply store where you have to squeeze the device several times to produce a light. This squeeze device is several times useful than any hand cranked device. :)

      +zodiacfml I have that same squeeze light :) i got it from wilcon hardware with GE bulbs. And you're right, it's really quite effective :)

    Might be a nice toy for a kid - I think my 7 year old son might like this.

    • @GadgetAddict
      @GadgetAddict  8 лет назад

      +David Sonshine Good thinking :) Although it might not last too long because I don't know if a 7 year old would have the awareness of when the gears are grinding and being worn down. But it would probably keep him interested for awhile! :)

      Why do parents see trash and think "that's what muh kid needs". It's not just parents and kids. You also buy the rest of the family similar gifts too huh? the reason I avoid my "family" during holidays is cause their obvious purchase actions have some really bad negative thought behind it. let me guess, You'll need the best gift money can buy though?

    It's a good concept but not with plastic gears. I would by it with metal gears and pay more.

    • @GadgetAddict
      @GadgetAddict  3 года назад

      Yeah it's annoying that most of those being sold are using plastic gears. Same thing with similar products :(
