One very important thing to know about this laparoscopic procedure is that CO2 gas will be added into your abdominal cavity to help to open up the area for easier view for the surgeon. The trapped gas post surgery was very uncomfortable for me. It hurt too much to lie flat due to the gas sensation in my front shoulder area. The gas tends to move up into the shoulder area post surgery.
I couldn't sleep at all the second and third night after surgery due to the discomfort. A woman on youtube video suggested blowing into a straw, into a glass of water for several minutes every hour to relieve the pressure. I tried it, it worked and I was able to recline in my bed with pillows propped under my knees and get a decent nights sleep. I'm 66 years old and had an ovarian cyst removed, one ovary and both fallopian tubes last month. I felt very nauseated a couple hours after sugery. Threw up a bunch of times but there was nothing in my stomach to throw up. First day I was buzzing from all the drugs and slept. I took one oxycodon the 3rd day. A couple of ibuprofin but found I didn't really need any pain medication. The gas sensation was the most uncomfortable and I got that resolved. I was walking the first day and could cook simple necessary tasks. Going to the bathroom was fine. No constipation. I regularly have a small cup of fermented miso soup before meals and that really helps. My eyes got extremely dilated for many days. Had to wear sunglasses. I assumed it was the drugs being worked through my system. I was weak but feeling okay. Walked outside. I didn't drive a car until the second week and was shakey and sobbing when I attempted to do a quick errand. I spent some days crying uncontrollably. I really needed more TLC support then I had anticipated. Even though it was a more simple procedure it was a big deal for me. I went through alot and wished I had known to schedule more emotionally supportive friends. Some people are great at being present, others not so good.
My surgeon said I would be good to go in a few days. Ha! Not true.
I had planned to take one week off, I'm a family daycare provider for small children. I took another week and wanted to take 3 or 4 weeks off total because I felt like I was in a fog, very emotional and physically vulnerable and weak. One thing that really helped me was essential oils because it brought me out of the fog. I ate very well, smaller meals of mostly vegetable soups and easy to digest proteins. My belly still feels bloated one month later but it gets better every day. I also took flower essences, Mariposa Lily essence to help me feel nurtured by the mother. And that really helped me alot. I am very thankful I had the surgery. The simple, benign cyst had been there for a long time and was becoming debilitating to my life. Though I was nervous to have the procedure the hospital staff were all great, so caring and confident. I knew I was in good hands. A very postive experience. I am choosing to see the whole experience as a Rebirth. Feeling how my body is adapting to having parts removed. I've been on bio-identical plant based natural hormone replacement for about 10 years and may need to up my dosage. It's difficult to find medical professionals who know much about menopause. I like Christiane Northrup's books on Women's Health. She includes alot on the emotional and spiritual aspects as well as the physical/biochemical aspects. I would like to support other women who are undergoing similar experiences.

Does the cyst reoccur? I am an athlete but I am scared it will reoccur as somewhere I read it gets triggered by physical or psycological stress. Its meen 4.5 months post surgery.

Hello, I have just had a 10 cm twisted ovary removed along with other cysyts and my fallopian tubes plus fibroids. Endometriosis was found in 3 places on my bowel and bowel surgeons had to come in and cut away the endometriosis and the cuts were stitched up. (I had a hysterectomy 23 years ago for endometriosis but my ovaries were left due to my age) Can you tell me the recovery time please, I am 60 years old and I am four and a half weeks in. Sitting is still painful along with bending over. I am in the UK and am struggling to find an answer to my recovery time. There is no follow up with my consultant. Any help would be much appreciated as I feel very let down by the NHS. Kind regards Kim.

We rarely remove the ovary. Only if the cyst is one with the ovary, very rare

Thank you so much for replying. How common is it to remove the fallopian tube along with the ovarian cyst on the same side? Thank you.

@@AnnA-jd4xm no I ended up being very lucky I wish the consultant never said all that to me he then gave me a mri and got a letter saying I can just leave it as it ended up being a fibroid! And will eventually shrink. He scared me for no reason. Hope all goes well for yourself
