I got 6 of these in a sketchbox some time ago and at the time it didn't register in my mind what it was so I didn't even open them so now recently I rediscovered them and feel excited about them! I bought 2 water soluble graphite pencils to go with them and I honestly like this as a variation to watercolor and gouache which I've been practicing a lot otherwise. I am so excited to do monotone or bicolor studies in my sketchbook. Something can be so impactful when a single thing is a different color. Love your art!
Your pictures are very nice .I enjoyed watching you draw I actualy bought a derwent charcoal box now I saw how to use them thanks and many greetings Christiane Berlin Germany ❤😊
I'm a sucker for those mited tones and colours! And after this crappy trash heap of a year we all deserve to treat ourselves, I'd say. So, no need to feel guilty, Katy. Also love your animal portraits, they look awesome 🥰
Thank you Emillie ♥️ I honestly can't tell you enough how the water soluble charcoal has changed my opinion on this medium! I'm still not a lover of the mess but it's definitely made it more bearable 😁
Charcoal, glitter, pastel dust and pine needles from Christmas trees (real or fake) they all show up days or months after using them. Lol. Love this video, art making and your talking with us.
Thank you Banani Covani ♥️ these are a joy to use and I loved painting with these! I think any supply that can fit in with a style you already use but also encourage a different way of working is just awesome!
I just ordered this set and the 24 set of the tinted pencils. I can't wait for them to get here 😁. My husband thinks I have a pencil problem, he doesn't quite get that they all do different things. Lol
Thank you for the inspiration, to be honest the paint set we got in the scrawlrbox was gathering dust...used them today with the graphite blocks to do a cute hedgehog...thanks again and wonderful art pieces
Thank you Rita's Happy Pencil ❤️✏️ ooooh I'm glad you picked them back up again! The graphite set and charcoal set are both beautiful to use and I may have to create something using both!
🤣🤣🤣 We are all weak 😞 It’s so funny I had the derwent pastels watercolor set in my cart and I had to step away from my computer and tell myself, you don’t need this. Then I returned to my computer and bought the derwent pastel pencils😣. 🤦♀️🤦♀️
Thank you Creative Phenomenon Art ♥️ aren't we just lol. The charcoals had been on my radar for quite a while and admittedly in my cart too for a while. I was so happy to see them in my local art supplies store and it sealed the deal hehe! I've also noticed the pastel set online too. Luckily for my bank balance my local store hasn't stocked them yet. It will only be a matter of time lol
Hi! Loved your little demo here! If you want a medium that makes watercolour waterproof, I can recommend Aquafix (Schmicke), Shellack Soap (Lukas) or Shellac based Ink (Sennelier). I have to warn you though, NOT to use it on/in your pans, cause in this case waterproof is REALLY waterproof. Keep your brushes wet while working, clean them in some alcohol and after that with water and soap
Thank you Niña fairy ♥️ I think you're right hehe! I hope that you get what you want on your list! If you get these I hope you enjoy them as much as I have 😍
Thank you Fuzzydragons 💜 I think they compliment the water soluble graphite very well. Plus, if like me, your not a lover of the mess they are super handy to avoid the dust.
I bet I spend way more money of crafting items each month than you do :-p Can't resist special offers of my fave brand. I sometimes even wait till sale starts for certain items and I am happy for every Euro I save with that. Sometimes, I just bought something and surprise - 2 weeks later: Sale for certain products for a few days only (like Black Friday events). Anyway, love your painting, as always.
Thank you Crafting Lady ❤️ hehe I'm sure you do! I always keep an eye out on Jackson's every Friday they usually update the special offers. The paper sale is usually when I really splurge because that's what gets used up the quickest lol I have also purchased items off sale only for them to be on offer shortly afterwards! But sometimes you just NEED them hehe!
I bought these and immediately regretted it. I love Derwent products except this one. I love their tinted charcoal pencils but these lacked in range in colour and I found them hard to get going. I find other products work better like Nitram or even just the pencils.
Thank you Eileen Reilly Arts ♥️ oh no! That's a shame. I do understand about getting them going as the pans did swallow up the water. I think with the colour range they went with warm and cool variants rather than adding colours that wouldn't work at all. I may have to check the other supplies you mentioned now 😉
@@KatyRylesArt I would've loved some warmer colours like an ochre or something. Yes check out Nitram liquid charcoal. Very interesting product. You probably know about Schmincke liquid charcoal. There's also some liquid graphite products (if you don't mind mixing).
Thank you Weblight Dreams ❤️ there's still a few supplies I avoid. I'm generally not a fan of acrylic painting as the dry times are too quick and if it's on canvas I'm not a fan of the feedback when applying the paint. Lol I've just realised how odd that sounds. However the art group I go to I solely work in acrylics to try and improve. I think when I return to life drawing I'll probably start using charcoal again and add some water to see what happens!
I am weaker than you, I bought this set to go with the 24 set of Derwent tinted charcoal pencils I just bought, to work in tandem together….I am very weak.
Weak is good, it enables you to have many more. We are blessed 😊

Gorgeous painting.
Loved how you threw that water brush away 😅👏👍🏻
'I am weak' - I LOVE it! Great video too, you have the most relaxing voice. Best regards from one art supplies junkie to another 😉🎨😉
Your pictures are beautiful, and almost made me want to purchase these, but I am not very far along my paint journey. Thank you for this video.
Beautiful.
Derwent actually has an ochre charcoal tone, but in the big block form. Wish they continue to expand that line too.
I did not need to knows these exsisted...I really, really didn't need to know this....I feel an accident coming my way as well...
Thank you Kellswitch ♥️ I felt the same lol but accidents happen lol they really are quite lovely to use 😁
Just bought some used them today they are great to use.
I'm a sucker for those mited tones and colours! And after this crappy trash heap of a year we all deserve to treat ourselves, I'd say. So, no need to feel guilty, Katy. Also love your animal portraits, they look awesome 🥰
Beautiful !
Thank you Renée Cailloux ♥️
You are - almost - making me wanna give another go at charcoal...
Same, she is just amazing with it isn't she.
Thank you Emillie ♥️ I honestly can't tell you enough how the water soluble charcoal has changed my opinion on this medium! I'm still not a lover of the mess but it's definitely made it more bearable 😁

Wow, beautiful. 😮😮
I have the XL blocks and I love painting with them.
Charcoal, glitter, pastel dust and pine needles from Christmas trees (real or fake) they all show up days or months after using them. Lol. Love this video, art making and your talking with us.
Loving this! X
Thank you Tracy ❤️
Yeeees i love this materials too. I like the loosiness in these paintings Katy. This inspires me a lot! I love both artworks 😊❤️

These seem great for charcoal/graphite underdrawing. It'll save time.
Loving these Katy, I love the muted tones. The owl is really stunning.🦉🦡⭐🌛💜
Thank you Linda ❤️ I loved using these so much! A muted palette will always capture my attention 😍
Thank you for the inspiration, to be honest the paint set we got in the scrawlrbox was gathering dust...used them today with the graphite blocks to do a cute hedgehog...thanks again and wonderful art pieces

Yay! You're monetized! Congratulations Katy! I love your work!
Thank you Artsie Designs ♥️ I'm glad you enjoyed it 😊
I got the tinted charcoal pencils, they are also awesome. I will pretend I did not see this video though. XD Thank you for sharing.

I think my Christmas list got sent to you instead- you keep reviewing the art supplies on it 😂😂
Another lovely video, and a very dreamy badger!
Thank you Niña fairy ♥️ I think you're right hehe! I hope that you get what you want on your list! If you get these I hope you enjoy them as much as I have 😍
they are a great idea, think i will just stick to my watersoluble graphite pencils tho, easier for me to get detail
Thank you Fuzzydragons 💜 I think they compliment the water soluble graphite very well. Plus, if like me, your not a lover of the mess they are super handy to avoid the dust.

May I have unwanted art things ?
