  • Following on from the various water soluble graphite reviews I decided to try the Derwent Graphitint pencils.
    I hope my findings are useful and demonstrate how these materials can be used.
    The finished design can be found on my redbubble shop

    Oh this is gorgeous! A lot of people just want to play with markers and acrylic paint, and just don't look beyond those brightly coloured mediums and miss out on the beauty of graphite. There is a time and place for everything, but there is always a time and a place for graphite. :D

      Thank you Beate A 🥰 I'll admit I was guilty of that for a time! I think using the bright colours has an instant visual impact as they stand out. I still love using those colours too (except for acrylics which although I'm trying I just can't get along with) With graphite and muted tones in general I've found it a longer process (not in a bad way) there's a certain patience required not to throw it all down straight away and overwhelm the surface. I've enjoyed getting to know this medium 🥰

    This is absolutely stunning. You make art seem so easy Katy. The way you blend your colours is so clever. Again, another video I could watch all day. Beautiful x

      Thank you Mandy ❤️ it really is down to lots of practice and getting to know the materials. The colour blending is mostly experimenting with combinations and seeing what works and doesn't. Using them side by side as well as merging them. I'm glad you enjoy my videos and are finding them useful ❤️❤️

    This turned out really well. Simply gorgeous art piece! I still cannot wait to see those muted graphite Derwent pans turn up here in US...You can gush all you want to about these supplies. I think it is a really fun medium that doesn't get a lot of notice. But just makes for lovely art.

      Thank you Shamelessly Creative 🥰 I hope that they make to the US soon! They are so interesting and unusual to work with. I can't help but gush over them. Aside from the darkest colour not quite being close enough to black I think that they are wonderful 🤩🤩🤩. I love the restricted pallet even though there's a lot of different colours they compliment eachother so well. ❤️

    I love the way you used these pencils. I love them too but I find them very hard to work with but the texture it creates is so darn beautiful and you utilized it so well in the painting !

    • @KatyRylesArt
      @KatyRylesArt  4 года назад

      Thank you Faye Wulf ❤️ they are quite tricky to work to begin with. I had to rethink how I was going to utilise the textures the water soluble graphite made. I think the only frustrating thing I find about them is that they aren't dark enough especially for any line work. However the particles are graphite and the darkest is a dark grey using the watercolour pencil helped to overcome that one small issue I have with them. I'm glad you enjoyed it and I hope it encourages you to give them another try ❤️

    Just wow, the piece is so beautiful. I haven't seen the show yet, but been meaning to. :) I see you have a muted theme going on, I think we forget to give those colors some love as well. Very nice review.

      Thank you Weblight Dreams ❤️ I'm absolutely loving the graphitint at the moment and muted tones. The show was an interesting take on the legend although my favourite rendition is the one made 20 years ago with Sam Neill playing Merlin!

      😍 thank you Vanessa 🥰 I'm so glad you enjoyed it 🥰 I think I may have found a new favourite medium. I hope you're enjoying the ones you got in scrawlrbox.
      I felt like I needed to do a big epic piece with swirls and leaves and it was so much fun to do ❤️

      @@KatyRylesArt I have tried out a few things with the graphite from scrawlbox. I find it quite challenging, for me though, because it comes to build up slowly and with light washes/layers. I have not much patience you see 😊 I will post soon on Instagram 😊

    Hello can it be used as substitute weathering pencil for scale modelling??

    • @KatyRylesArt
      @KatyRylesArt  3 года назад +1

      Hi SilverBullet! That's a good question. I unfortunately don't have much experience in the 3d realm and haven't tried it in such a surface.
      I'm not sure if the binder would stay on the surface. However maybe if a layer of clear Watercolour grounds was added it may work.
      If you do try this I'd like to know how it worked for you.

    Too bad you signed it on the front. Otherwise I would have purchased it. I buy art to have a discussion about it. When artists sign the fonts the viewer believes they'll remember whom the artist was and they don't discuss the work. Which pretty much defeats the purpose.

    • @KatyRylesArt
      @KatyRylesArt  2 года назад +2

      Too bad I wasn't selling it. Most people buy work because they like it. Collectors prefer a signature. Every gallery and exhibition I have been to the work has been signed. Commission's are whatever the client wants, signed or not visibly. signed. You are very welcome to commission me.

      @@KatyRylesArt I don't mind a signature just not on the art itself. Bottom, side, back, etc. Great I pay per hour plus supplies plus 50%. Sounds fair to you?

      Sounds awesome. This is quite a busy time for me right now to be accepting commission's. Contact via Instagram and we can discuss further
