“Yea, some guy scribbled his name on this 3DS that I’ve never seen before.... Must be ruined..”
I'm assuming the shown in the video is the one, and like, how do you make that mistake?
(maybe older)people like that don't pay attention to video games as much as the guys in their (now) 30s and 20s do, let alone who created Mario. Not even everyone knows who Bill Gates is, might be different with Michael Jordon though. I would go as far as to say that not even people who make their hobby only video games never even knew about these exclusives unless they watch videos like this or are part of the underground people who specifically study, learn about, and hunt these rare variants "not available to the public".
Generally speaking, scribbling on things does depreciate their value. Maybe that store owner was dumb for not looking up why that 3DS was "rare" solely based on the puzzle and dragons thing (or he might have thought that it was just some special edition that you can buy in stores, just like for the animal crossing one) when video games probably weren't his specialty. Miyamoto isn't on the same level of known (in the USA) as Walter Disney, Michael Jordon, or day I say Orlando Bloom. I would make the same mistake as the store owner if someone sold me anything related to soccer.
@matt He was in a movie or something with Bugs Bunny.
He was a baseball player
@matt he was a football player
I dont know who's stupider, the guy who sold Miyamoto's signature for a hundred bucks, or the store that resold it as a "damaged unit".
People in the comments have been wondering if it was stolen or he/she had to sell it for the money which is really depressing ...

I would make the same mistake as the store owner if someone sold me anything related to soccer. Of course everyone who watches this video knows who Miyamoto is and will be upset and see one or both the store owner and seller as stupid, myself included, but for the 3DS yeah despite Nintendo games being my hobby I didn't even know of that contest or that game existed lol.
2020 i agree with you in this case.
@@KimeramonRocks Generally I would agree with you. But considering that the store owner even had the original package, he should have noticed that there was something special with it. Both the package and the console itself basically shout in your face that it is special, with a specific date printed on it, with the word "Congratulation" and the information that it's from a competition held in 4 countries.
It's okay to not know about this or recognize the value at first, but it's enough to at least do a simple Google search. And when you find out there are only four of these gems... man, you better put that thing on Ebay instead of in your store shelf for 150 bucks.
It's a tie.
That dude who sold the puzzle and dragons 3DS gotta be kicking himself right now
Thought the same.
I bet/hope this dude has that one friend that will always tease him with puns about "smudges"
I bet he still has no idea
Seriously, wtf... That's nuts
wait...
other human beings know what puzzles and dragons is...?
I’m about to cry.....
MY FUCKING CHILDHOOD OMG
Unlikely a dude. Likely someone's mom who sold it off in a yard sale.
“This dude is really buying this back what an idiot this 3DS has a smudge”
You would be surprised what second hand shops have to sell. I ended up finding an Entex AdventureVision for 20 bucks with its only problem being corrosion on the terminals. The shop also said that it didn't work. A bit of cleaning later and well it works fine.
Lol reminds me of that Sandlot scene: “I donno, some lady named Baby Ruth wrote her name on it” 😂
"BABE RUTH?!? AHHHHHHHHH"
YOU MEAN THAT'S THE SAME GUY!!??!?
RippahRooJizah yessssssssssss
"You're killin' me, Smalls..."
That makes two of us
That last one just pissed me off, Like COME ON YOU DON'T GET A SIGHED SIGNATURE OF MIYAMOTO every day!!
"Smudge" probable wasn't what the game store owner meant. Probably "doodle", and wasn't familiar with who Miyamoto is. Which sounds crazy, but a lot of older people just played video games without knowing who made them.
Doesn't help that, when my dad started playing the NES, Miyamoto's name was mistranslated as "Miyahon" because the guy in the localization department wasn't sure how to read the Kanji of his surname and guessed.
Who wins a contest and doesn’t even notice a signature, then take it to a pawn store?
@@OtakuUnitedStudio That's pretty much still the case today I'm pretty sure most people generally speaking don't know the people behind some of their favorite games, movies, cartoons etc. aside from maybe a few exceptions like Walt Disney or Steven Spelburg.
I'm only talking about America just for the record I don't if that's the case in other countries.
jeans my guess is a family member or dickhead friend stole it and pawned it.
@@AkutomiNamikaze That's the only thing that makes sense. You don't take something that you KNOW is almost one of a kind, signed by an industry legend and pawn it off for so little. And I'd assume that someone obsessed enough to win the contest would have known that. Only reasonable explanation is that someone else got rid of it
Lmao imagine being the store clerk that thought miyamotos signature was a "smudge". Even if you don't know who's signature that is its very obvious it's writing and not just some smudge lmao
imagine if he'd wiped it off!
@@MadmanMario lmao yeah that would have been Hella easy to do especially if he actually thought it was just a smudge
@@MadmanMario I assume he tried, but it was written with permanent marker, so he sold it for cheap since it wouldn't come off
@@MadmanMario idk if it was ever debunked, but someone did exactly that with a signed game and watch. they did a full blown tutorial on how to remove permanent marker without hurting the plastic lol
"I don't know know who this dammed Miyamoto kid is but he ruined a brand new Nintendo"
"Hot summer donkey"
Uhhhhh, okay then.
thank you dark souls
A few years ago I got an Ocarina Of Time strategy guide from a thrift store for 50 cents, turns out not only was it signed by Myamoto but also has a skech of Link presumably done at the same time. Best 50 cents ever.
I'd love to see the sketch maybe you want to post it to Instagram or Twitter or something

6:26 *_Nick Robinson: hey i heard you like mcdonalds_*
Unique 3DS, one of kind with Mario on it: 3000
Mcdonald ds: a little more than that.
It's the Mc Donalds software that makes it expensive.
@@donnyf88 Yeah it's the cartridge that gives it most of it's value

@@TehPwnographer that's exactly why you need a passcode to access the cartridge, only mconalds executives are allowed to print fries
@@TehPwnographer We can even print other items and reverse engineer mcdonalds recipes
6:35 hmmm, I wonder who bought that ds.... I guess the world will never know..... :)
Maybe we'll have to book a flight to Japan to find out.
"Yo, sick black DSi you got there, where'd you get it from?"
"McDonald's..."
Forget the Travis Scott Burger I want a McDonald’s DSi
I work at a McDonald's, and myself and every other adult working there during the day keeps asking ourselves "who the fuck is Travis Scott?!"

Thanks
John Cena: "I AM THE TABLE!"
Wdym? There's definitely a stand there
Nintendo really does go all out on their special editions, but, did I read "Hot Summer Donkey" right?
Yes.
@@LiamRproductions That sounds so cursed when given enough thought.
7:32 The L.A. Noire Switch looks like a Wii U Gamepad from the front
It's the gloss lol. Lowkey glad modern consoles finally ditch that fingerprint magnet finish
I remember when I was 9 I lost my Gameboy Micro in the school library during lunch time. I remember crying when I got home.
Another commenter found one in a library.
Another commenter said they *found* a Gameboy Micro in a School Library. Coincidence? Yeah, probably.
Someone found it lol
Another user in the comments named "Kuddlesworth NA" mentioned in this comment section that he found a gameboy micro in the school library and handed it in. Get it contact with him and see if it's the same one!
You really should find out if It's the same one you lost. That would make such a One in a million story.
Extra fact: The german RUclipsr Domtendo received 2 special custom switches from Nintendo for getting 1 million subscribers on RUclips. He still owns one and gave the other one to a fan via a giveaway
ruclips.net/video/AL0_O8QL_YI/видео.html ugly
@Black Chandelier Mirage He is the biggest Nintendo focused RUclipsr in Europe (and probably just behind some others from the US) after all, so it makes kinda sense.
I dunno who was dumber, the person that took the rare Miyamoto signed DS to a pawn shop probably sold for very low price or the store owner who didn't realize at all it's significance and selling it for 150$
(maybe older) people like that don't pay attention to video games as much as the guys in their (now) 30s and 20s do, let alone who created Mario. I would make the same mistake as the store owner if someone sold me anything related to soccer.
Was it a USA one sold? I assume the pawn shop person thought the owner or something signed it to make it "theirs" and no one could steal it...
@@LudaChez most likely what the owner thought. signatures of anybody who isnt a celebrity depreciate the value of something
Some poor 19-yr-old had their mom sell a DS signed by Miyamoto for a couple hundred bucks to a random pawn shop.
Yeah smudges do decrease value but signatures of people deemed famous only by avid Nintendo fans will increase the value... a signature of a nobody will definitely decrease the value and Miyamoto isn't really known to anybody (in the USA) except for those who... well, play Nintendo games as well as participate in online communities that discuss Nintendo stuff.
Okay I’m super high right now but I just realized how crazy it is that Nintendo can just slap some decals on a single Switch, ship it to some random person, and all of a sudden collectors go crazy for it and want to display it in a glass case. It’s pretty amazing what we consider valuable

Accurate.
He should have shown the Virtual Boy. Wii U didn't even sell that poorly or else 2010s kids are going to hate you.
I don't care what anyone says, the Wii U was a great console. Everyone was wrong not to get behind it.
I honestly hope that the store clerk who sold that $10.000 3DS for a measly 150 bucks never finds out about what happened
Imagine the amount of heartbreak it would cause. Better to remain oblivious in this case, really.
The end of the P&D story was wild.
If they ever get released I can already imagine how much scalpers would put them up for

"Had a smudge on it"....?
Anyone with working eyes can tell its a signature.
Imagine submitting a 3DS signed by Miyamoto himself into a pawn shop and the dude gives you $5 because he thinks you damaged it
I REALLY want that LA Noire switch. I wish it was a limited edition thing instead of a 1 of a kind. Then I would actually be able to buy one

@@Null_Knight yeah that's the avenue to go down, especially for a game as mid as LA Noire
6:27 ever heard of Nick Robinson?
"Someone bought it, and that person was me" my mind was blown
The guy who was fired from Polygon for harassing women and soliciting nudes from underage girls? Yeah. I remember him.
@@LiamRproductions I mean a discovery update is still a discovery update No matter how shitty the person was. At least we get to play the McDonalds game now.
I’m not saying I defended him, I’m just saying that you shouldn’t invalidate a discovery because the person was shitty, differentiate the art and the artist.
@@Northgical That's how I feel about the creators behind Drake and Josh and The Loud House-I can still appreciate their work even if they aren't good people.
@@RavenStarMedia what did they do?
Man, the Advance Wars DS looks extremely cool.
Also, who the f**k confuses a signature with a smudge
I remember browsing console variations last year, looking at which systems I'd like to and be likely to pick up in Japan this year. Sadly I can't do that anymore but it is still interesting seeing the stories behind the rare ones.
The guy who mistook Miyamoto's signature as a smudge reminds me of the person who actually scrubbed Miyamoto's signature off of a Donkey Kong Game & Watch while cleaning it.
This is genuinely one of the most interesting tech videos I have seen all week. Great work!
Nick Robinson brought me here. He got now 2 of the Nintendo DS McDonald's Edition. And a Copy of McDonald's eCDP
There's a red gamecube featuring Char from mobile suit gundam. It looks so good and with the matching control 😍
Have you heard of the incredibly rare purple GameCube?
And a themed GameBoy Player
I'll take three to match Char's speed XD
It's awesome, but it's not as rare as these. I've seen if in resale shops in Osaka and Tokyo both for around 30,000 yen.

The rarest Nintendo console was the 1ds. only sold on jupiter, it was only available for a couple weeks until some dudes in a black suit came and took it.
Bruh you watch everything I do
You forgot about the 0ds.
bruh, why does no one talk about the -1ds?
We all knew one guy in grade school who swore up and down that he had something like this and his dad worked at Nintendo
Is that why there is a red spot on Jupiter?
The mcdonalds game was found. Nick robinson had released the rom
I thought some clam shell Animal Crossing DS units were going to be in the video
I don't quite understand the point of calling something like the Mario 64 DS "extremely rare" when 1) there was literally only one made, and 2) it's owned by Console Variations, so it will never be on the secondhand market. Like, it's just a one-of-a-kind promotional item that's never been in the hands of a consumer
I wouldn't call one of something rare. I dunno. The Washington Monument isn't "extremely rare." The Taj Mahal isn't "extremely rare." A single painting isn't "extremely rare." These are just single instances of something
5:03 I love how Nintendo took the time to use a repurposed ammo container for their container and decided that 0mm of foam was good enough to separate the ceramic mug and DS from the metal lid
So how is a one of a kind variant worth less than something that has 2,000 in existence? Weird.
I found a Gameboy Micro in the school library once. They are worth a shit load now. I handed it in though.
Why would it be there?
@@ireplytoeverything3122 I guess someone lost it
You did the right thing. No matter how much it hurts.
Sold my famicom edition one last year complete in box for a killing, but I kinda wish i held onto it for the price to keep skyrocketing. Not bad considering I bought it originally on clearance when Circuit City went out of business.
Another commenter said they *lost* a Gameboy Micro in a School Library. Coincidence? Yeah, probably.
6:27 - Little did we know that there was a story behind it.
What would your opinion be if Nintendo brought back Virtual Console but limited it to N64, Gamecube, Wii, DS, and 3DS games.
i would be fine with that
I wouldn't care, I'm 26 years old so I started with N64 anyway, so all the games I really care about and grew up with would be covered.
I will be fine
I would be eh on that. I really just wish we could own the games for good.
Snes and Nes nostalgia is long gone, so yes please
I wonder what the online feature was for the McDonald's training. Probably something to do with the authentication?

lol someone sold a priceless autographed DS and the second hand store thought it was a "smudge".
9:45 Ah yes, one of those highly popular games/franchises back in the day that you've never heard of.
11:43 oof... I hope whoever made this mistake wasn't fired because of this... though to be honest, mistaking a signature of someone in the item, independent of knowing or not the person who wrote it, as a smudge is pretty rough.
To be fair there are a lot of franchises that are huge in Japan but when it comes to English releases they just don't bother. Look at some of the Dragon Quest spinoffs the west didn't even release, there are some really great ones (the Dragon Quest Monsters series)

imagine thinking a signature from one of the biggest developers in the industry is just a smudge
Yo they didn’t show the advance wars DS!
"hot summer donkey"
I cackled.
Fun fact: the re-used ammo boxes for the Advance Wars DS were originally for Browning heavy machine guns, as indicated by: (a) the caliber, 12.7mm NATO, aka. .50 BMG, (b) the round count, 100, more than a minute of continuous fire in a Browning, and (c) that the box specifies belted ammunition, something only used in machine guns in general.
I could understand not realizing the significance of the signature, but you're telling me they thought it was a smudge? That's either a tall tale or that guys as a dumb as a brick.
i own a console thats basically one of a kind, i bought a wii u
It had sold more units than the Xbox 1 at the time of its discontinuation. Obviously that changed after they stopped making Wii U consoles and the Xbox 1 S and X got released, making up for the base model's slow sales.
Seriously wondering why one of the winners of that championship just pawned off that 3DS. I mean it sounds like he barely got any money from it so it couldn't have been because he was desperate for some extra cash. Someone else in another comment said it likely got stolen or something and then pawned off and sadly I feel that has to be the case.

A smudge that was actually a signature of Miyamoto himself is the kind of plot twist I wasn't expecting coming in this video.
