Welcome to my channel! This is a music reaction channel. For the longest time, I've loved creating content on the internet. I started off with a gaming channel right here on RUclips, which eventually turned into a Twitch gaming channel, but as time has gone on I've evolved into doing other things on RUclips. For years now I've wanted to create a music channel on RUclips, and recently just figured "why not?", so it’s time to give this a go! Give me any suggestion you have for music reactions, and I will do my best to get around to them. As music has fallen further out of my life, I figured this would be a great time to get reintroduced to music.
If you enjoy this video and my reactions make sure you subscribe to the channel, like the video and comment down below which video you would like to see me react to next.
This is a reaction video used to educate and give my feedback on the song and artists.

As popular as Neil Diamond is/was, I don't think he was respected as much as the rock stars. His voice is beautiful!
I agree. I always feel like I have to “confess” that I love Neil Diamond
As I've aged I have come to fully appreciate Neil Diamond's artistry. This song may be my favorite. Love the words and imagery those words impart. We are the world's melting pot and sometimes forget we are one nation under God. What a great pick for us on this holiday. Blessings all.
An artifact of a time when our nation's immigrant heritage was celebrated and we were proud that America was the most desired destination in the world for people dreaming of improving their lives.
This song was the climactic scene of his remake of the movie The Jazz Singer. His father, played by the great Laurence Olivier, was an immigrant, a Jewish cantor, who wanted him to follow in his footsteps and disowned him when he decided to become a pop singer. He sings this song at a huge concert, with his father in the audience finally understanding he had to follow his own path. Neil is Jewish.
Neil Diamond is one of the best solo artists. He has some great upbeat songs, like this one. Nice pick for the the 4th of July.
One can never go wrong with Neil Diamond. So many of his songs I can say...That's one of my favorites! lol
Neil Diamond is retired (as far as I know*) from performing*, and at least from touring* since his diagnosis (and ongoing issues) with Parkinson's Disease in 2015, but I think he still writes at home. The news was very sad but he's a determined and still very talented man and I can only hope he's able to cope with the debilitating illness / condition.😢❤🇺🇲🎵🤞🙂🤞🎵♥️🏴🖖
GREAT SONG FOR TODAY!!🇺🇸
This song always gives me goosebumps!!
YEAH...that was my suggestion in the live. This was from the movie The Jazz Singer. Yep, it's about immigration.....so many different cultures coming to America for it's freedom and lifestyle. Thanks, Shawn.
Neil was a songwriter at the Brill Building with Carol Kings and others. He's written many songs for artists, The Monkees, Barbra Streisand, Elvis, UB40, etc.
If you're saying Neil write "Red Red Wine" for 'UB40' you're mistaken.
Neil wrote and sang that song long before UB40 reworked it. 😐
Listening to this reminded me of a big bang theory ep where amy and howard are in Howard's car doing a treasure hunt. amy turns on the music system and neil diamond song plays.they find out they both like neil diamond.they sing along to america.
I always blast this one. This is his personal family history. Makes it even more special
I grew up in the 80s, and I can say there was a little snobbery about Neil Diamond among the rock crowd, that he wasn't edgy or aggressive enough, he was considered MOR (middle of the road---i.e. music our parents might listen to---definitely uncool!) But in hindsight, now that I'm 60, I can appreciate his talent and artistry. I also ended up falling in love with an undocumented Brazilian who gave up everything to come here in search of a better life. He ended up having many good as well as bad things happen to him here, and so this song is poignant to me because it reminds me of him (especially since he's deceased now). But I can say this song accurately depicts the spirit in which he came here, a spirit he never lost--that promise of a dream coming true. He never lost his reverence for that, and I hear that in this song.
Happy 4th of July!
I grew up with Neil Diamond. I remember when this song came out. I graduated in 1881. If i remember correctly, people were risking crossing the ocean from Cuba to south Florida on little more than inner-tubes to escape the communist regime in Cuba. America back then was a country to be proud of and where immigrants were welcomed. I myself am a descendant of an immigrant from Germany who landed by boat in Baltimore Maryland and migrated to Ohio. It’s not like now where no one is vetted and they are allowed to flood the open southern border. This song had us feeling all kinds of American pride back in the day.
Totally enjoy this song. Always leaves me with a knot in my throat.
I had all of his albums. Saw him in Atlanta GA. Fantastic show.
It's not meant to be unkind, but I envy you your collection of all of Neil Diamond's albums. I only have _23_ of his 12" vinyl albums.
Also title song for the movie "The Jazz Singer" (1980). We expect what starts a movie to be perhaps the strongest song. The best part of the movie was the songs in it.
This is a good song for the 4th of July!👍👏👏👏🎉♥️🎉
Happy Fourth of July to all the Americans from Down Under!
"The Jazz Singer" was his 8-Mile or Purple Rain movie where the character is similar to his real life.
For his more growly, rocking sound try Holly Holy and of course, the anthem Hot August Night!
Another great one from this movie is "Love On The Rocks" 👍👌
Such a great song on this special day never would I"d expected such a powerful song Another awesome day of music thanks to our righteous host Shawn. Thank You
You should treat yourself to some "top shelf" Neil Diamond - here are a few recommendations - go to his "Beautiful Noise" album and react to the title cut, "Beautiful Noise", then go to "Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show" and pick any cut from that album. Then you might want to watch the movie "Jazz Singer" and see him as he performs several songs which make up the sound track; and then, then my friend you will be ready for the full-album reaction to "Johnathan Livingston Seagull" which needs to be heard from start to finish with no interruptions.... it's a off-the-beaten-path journey of Neil Diamond tunes, but it's a trip well worth taking!
I agree with your choices but would add 'Taproot Manuscript', 'Moods', and 'Stones'* (the latter* includes a song by
Joni Mitchell, and another by
Leonard Cohen).
👍👍An awesome performance. Love it. Great reaction. 🖖❤
Beautiful song from a beautiful singer!!!
Happy 4th everyone
The video is awesome
Shawn, try Neil's movie anthem "Be."
❤❤❤❤❤
The video from the movie "The Jazz Singer" is better, it's an awesome video you should check out.
I would love to hear your reaction to Neil diamonds Holly Holy. Listen carefully to those S T E A M Y lyrics…
☘️🇺🇲
Now you should listen to Brooklyn Roads
❤🤍💙
CAROLINE, then watch
As stated .. #AMERICA is from the movie soundtrack for the #Jazz Singer. Nothing original here. The movie dates back to 1929 which starred Al Jolson. This version was like the second or third remake of the Jolson classic, but it was Neil's debut [and only time] as a leading man in a movie. Neil plays Yussel Rabinovitch, a son to a Jewish cantor [played by the late Lawrence Olivier] , that wants to become a entertainer instead of following in his fathers footsteps and become cantor in the synagogue. Neil's character takes the stage name, Jess Robin. He's offered to go to L.A. because another star wants to record #LOVE ON THE ROCKS [another soundtrack hit]. Of course, Jess goes to L.A. leaving his wife at home. And we all know what happens when the wife is left at home. Jess meets and falls for Molly [played by Lucie Arnaz ~ daughter of the late husband & wife team Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz]. Molly gets pregnant. His dad finds out his son has broken the marriage vows and declares Jess dead. Its a Jewish thing. Jess and Molly argue. With car tires squealing out of the parking lot, he leaves to find himself. Jess is tracked down by a good friend and learns he has a son also. Jess, Molly and dad make up. He becomes a big singing star and everyone lives happily ever after.
The movie did not fair well with critics. However, the soundtrack, which was written entirely by Neil, went on to sell a ton of records and was given a 6-Platinum rating in the first year of sales in 1981. It has sold many more since then. This is Neil's second soundtrack. The first one was to the 1973 movie #Johnathon Livingston Seagull. The movie bombed, but Neil's soundtrack went on to sell a bunch and won the Grammy for Best Soundtrack in 1974. Years later, Neil would explain that he wrote #AMERICA for his grandma who immigrated from Russia to NYC.
Great song to represent today ... LOVE NEIL DIAMOND!!!!
*Jonathan Livingston Seagull ❤🎵♥️🖖
No 'h' in Jonathan*
*Laurence Olivier...
"The French way" he said, "_not_ the English way."
My response is, don't take song requests from guys in sandals and socks. 😜
Excellent antidote to the anti-immigrant sentiment so prevalent today.
People are not 'anti-immigrant' in America. Most are 'anti-ILLEGAL immigrant'. They want to live here. Fine! NO PROBLEM. Do it the right way than and get their citizenship.
Immigrants and illegals are two different kind of people.
Come to America the legal way.
Anti- ILLEGAL immigrant. I have no problem with people who come here legally.
We are full of the illegal ones!! 3 of my great-grandparents immigrated from Sweden…the right way!
We are not "anti-immigrant". Those of us who have gone through the immigration process, we will always demand THAT, not the alternative. Anyone who has worked in the Border Patrol anywhere can tell you that this is a planned, coordinated invasion in too many instances.
Theyre coming to American through a wide open border now.
Later in his career (this song)...Neil was getting a little "sappy"...so ehhh! 🙄 He had totally lost his edge.....
Nowayyyy 😮
