My heart is full with joy hearing Neil Diamond. He remains my top favorite singer whose songs are intimately woven throughout the fabric of my life. You want Church Revival, Jay? Listen to Neil's Brother Loves Traveling Salvation Show.
This is a masterpiece. The vocals, lyrics, orchestration, layers of instruments building up. You'll never hear music like this again. Imagine hearing this for the first time on your local top 40 AM radio station. I was 12 years old in 1969 when this came out and was blown away by it even at that young age. I still love it to this day.
Neil has a voice that can melt anyone’s heart and the voice men wish they could have. His vocal resonance is found only in the very few that were born gifted and not only found it, but honed in on it to perfection. Holly Holy, I am I said, Play Me are a few that embodies this notion. What a treasure this man is.
Have been a Neil fan for over fifty years. Have been to so many concerts…the last one was his 50th Anniversary concert that was cut short due to his diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease. Glad I did not know that would be his last concert. So glad I got to see it! He is ahhhhmazing!🔥❤️💎
Neil Diamond did a live album called Hot August Night That was absolutely spectacular and has a version of this song that is just astonishing. The whole album is incredible.
I like Neil Diamond's earlier songs a lot. This is one of them: extremely well-crafted and flawlessly executed. Other favorites include "Girl, You'll Be a Woman Soon," "Solitary Man," and "Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show." His " I'm a Beliver" for the Monkees was pure pop perfection!
If you want to really be blown away by Neil, listen to his Jonathan Livingston Seagull soundtrack. “Be” is one of my all time favorites. “Lonely Looking Sky,” and “Dear Father,” along with them being revisited -just magic. My Dad brought that home, and he would play it and tell us kids the story behind it. I always cried because the other birds were being cruel-in line with the book. But the whole album is just amazing. Every single song was composed and written by him. He won the ‘74 Grammy for Best Original Score for a Motion Picture. Please check it out.
Neil Diamond's "Beautiful Noise" was the last song Mum heard as she passed away, in her bed surrounded by her kids. His music is a huge part of the soundtrack of our childhood, and we were lucky to be able to take Mum to see Neil in concert for her 70th birthday; it was her first concert. You should also check out "Morningside" "Coldwater Morning" (which still leaves me with chills even after hearing it all my life) and "Modernday Version of Love". And of course "Mr Bojangles" which still makes me cry. Pretty much anything you listen to by Neil Diamond is going to blow you away. His song writing is solid old-school story telling at its finest. Enjoy the ride ✌️
Dedicated Diamond fans know the Bang years (get the 'Just for You' LP/CD) and yes, that falsetto in Cold Water Morning. His 'Hot August Night' got me hooked on Neil. I could fly all night long to the 4th track (8-track) or 4th side of the double LP. Go on and "Do it". Cracklin' Rosie was the first 45rpm I ever bought. I was born in '59. Time for 'Brother Love".
Neil Diamond is one of those rare timeless acts. His music does not sound dated, as I was shocked to find out that the majority of his giant hits were recorded in the mid 60's. I never would have known. Neil is timeless!!
Mr. Diamond’s first name is spelled “Neil” not “Niel”. A simple Google search will show you correct spellings of people’s names. I suggest you try that next time that you’re typing a difficult four letter name like Neil.
Aw, you went in and fixed your f**k up without even thanking me for so nicely pointing it out to you. That’s not showing a little grace Karen, I mean Darcy. Damn, why do I keep mistaking you for Karen? My bad, so sad. 😟🙁☹️😢
This is actually one of my all time fav Neil diamond songs. He has a touch of symphony, rock, gospel, and his powerful voice all in one. The song built and got bigger and fuller. He was a great artist, singer, song writer, performer and artist.
Kentucky Woman Cherry Cherry Girl, You’ll be a Woman Soon Solitary Man Forever In Blue Jeans Red, Red Wine Song Sung Blue Sweet Caroline…. SO MANY GREAT SONGS. ❤
For a real treat you should listen to these songs as sung live on Hot August Night. They are better live than in the studio. There is way more passion.
I recommend watching the live version video, from 1973 I believe, he really rips the last part of the song. He also really rips in Brother Loves Traveling Salvation Show.
I just checked and the live version was actually from 1971, via a small, intimate performance for the BBC. There's also a video of his Brothers Love performance from the same set. His studio performances, while great, are typically more subdued and less raw than his live versions, more so than with most performers.
This is a song that sweeps you up and carries you away to a better world for that little time you listen to it. I love his song "Play Me." A great love song with one of the most beautiful melodies I've ever heard. "Desiree" is another great, upbeat, classic hit.
@@jeanniea3437Pretty sure Play Me is about his relationship with his guitar. Verses are Neil talking while the chorus is the guitar. Exquisite song and quite spiritual.
I would add my vote for 'Brother Love's Travelin' Salvation Show' as a must listen. The live version from his Hot August Night album is definitely the one!!
This is easily one of Neil's best. Longfellow Serenade is another great song. Then again its Neil Diamond he could sing the back of my medicine bottle and it would sound fantastic.
Neil Diamond is amazing in concert. Seen him back in the mid 90s in Ohio, and it blew me away. He was in the round where the stage revolved in a circle. Saddens me to hear that he was diagnosed with Parkinson's. There's only one Neil Diamond.
Same here! This is one of my all time fave ND songs! I always get emotional, chills and goosebumps from his music, so powerful!!!! 🥰 I hope you guys also explore his iconic song, "Play Me" that he performed a duet with Dame Shirley Bassey on her show years ago! It is simply beautiful!!!!
Omg, I cannot hear Neil Diamond without thinking of my friend from high school. He was a huge Dead head (literally, conceived at Woodstock, and his "how I spent my summer" report in the fall at the beginning of school was always "me and my family traveled with the Dead.") In his early 20s, he worked at a place that, as their company Christmas party, was taking everyone to a holiday Neil Diamond concert. He wasn't going to go at first ("not my music, not my scene,") but we tried to convince him to go. "They're renting a limo, all your work friends are going-- just go and be social. I'm sure you'll find a way to have at least a little fun!" The next day, we asked, "so, how was the show?" He looked around, then said so no one else could hear, "It. Was AMAZING!!!" The more he talked, the less self-conscious he became, and by the end, he didn't care who heard him sing Neil's praises-- "Neil's quite the showman-- best show I ever saw. EVER!!!" A convert of the highest order!!! Neil RULES!!! 🥰 I would love to see y'all react to Love on the Rocks or Sweet Caroline
That is so funny! Makes you wonder how many other people have missed out on ND because they thought they knew what he was about but they were completely mistaken. That’s actually kind of sad but I’m glad your friend went to the concert. In a way I think it would be cool to go without expecting anything and then being blown away by the music and the showmanship. I hope he had a chance to go later as a fan who was more familiar with the songs.
When an artist makes it as big as Neil Diamond, his/her songs get bigger. The background music has 60 musicians in it. Neil Diamond is the 1st artist that I fell in love with. The voice, the lyrics, the arrangements; for the folk/pop/singer-songwriter genres, they simply don't come better!
One of my all time favorites. It was the first song on side 4 of his best ever album "Hot August Night". This song followed by "I am, I Said" and "Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show" is one of the best album sides. One other song from that album you should look into, even though it never was a big hit, is "And the Grass Won't Pay No Mind", one of the most romantic songs ever.
Hot August Night was a secret delight for me back in 74. Usually listened to blues rock like Clapton, Johnny Winter, Jeff Beck etc, but I loved Neil’s voice.
I wish they'd do the right thing and have Neil sing America at the Super Bowl. Not the entire halftime show but just that song. He's not performing anymore but what a great send-off.
"Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show" is an ode to the country gospel tent revivals. He really delivers the goods with this one. "Holly, Holy" is great but just an appetizer to Brother Love's full meal!
I love Neil Diamond & I have everything he ever recorded. No one can beat his love songs. I once dated a man that traveled a lot. Whenever he had the chance to call, I would answer the phone and hear Neil Diamond starting his beautiful love song, "Hello Again". What a beautiful way to wake up.
You MYST react to Neil’s song…Beautiful Noise. He did a short snippet of this at the beginning of the song with his two very young daughters. They lived in a tiny New York apartment…had the wi Dow open as a street fair was going on down in the street. One of his little girls said,Isn’t that a beautiful house? He called them his back up singers…they called him Daddy Diamond. You will live this!🔥❤️💎
Great song that gives you Neil’s vocal diversity. But! As I commented once before, you need to listen to him more in live format. His live albums and the versions of the songs will blow you away. He uses that “gravely” voice more often, and it’s awesome to here it followed by the smooth, crooning voice. What a talent. Unfortunately we will never here him again in concert. Thankfully there are tons of performances recorded for us to enjoy for decades to come. More Diamond!!!!
You need to listen to the live version from the “Hot August Night “ album from 1972. You will not be disappointed. Makes this version sound tame, talk about a showman!
My Mother taught us about Volume control on "Her Hy-Fy" with Neil Diamond. She Blew the speakers out in that Old Huge Mahogany Tube filled, (extremely HOT) Magnavox Hy Fidelity Stereo Cabinet. My Father went to the TV Repair shop and bought New 15" Woofers, Mids, and Hi horn. Radio Shack was next for new wiring and Screen Cloth. He tore it down, rebuilt those components. Hours later he plugged it back to the outlet, after letting the tubes warm up. He drop the Tone Arm down, Mom didn't have the VOLUME turned down. Neil Was Blarring at us. My brothers and I looked at each other and smiled. This was going to be good. Stories. was the next album played. "Brother Louie"
Back in '72 Neil released the "Moods" LP/CD. There is a song on it that many people may not have heard of or played before. The song to look for is "Walk On Water." The longer version of this song (which runs 4:40 minutes) has a beautiful string ending.

I was just going to post this, they Must do that one.
Do song sung blue a beautiful song
You need to hear Neil Diamond's "Brother Love’s Travelling Salvation Show" to be taken back to church.
Yeah others have said it but I add my vote to “Brother Love’s Traveling Salvation Show.” It’s a toe tapper and a church rocker.
My vote is for Brother Loves Traveling Salvation Show, too, then for a change, his Crunchy Granola Suite.
This, and I always think of Let the Little Boy Sing as sort of a sequel.
Great song.
Yes! Please do Brother Love Traveling Show!
My 1st album was Neil Diamond. The 2nd was Rolling Stones. I thought then and still think Neil is far better than Mick.
Neil Diamond is the best! Diamonds are forever!🔥❤️💎
If you like Neil Diamond that much, try his Longfellow Serenade. ^_^
This is a masterpiece. The vocals, lyrics, orchestration, layers of instruments building up. You'll never hear music like this again. The live version of this song on the "Hot August Night" album is even better.
Neil Diamond did a live album called Hot August Night That was absolutely spectacular and has a version of this song that is just astonishing. The whole album is incredible.
Absolutely right on! I was around 8 to 10 years old when I heard that album, it gave me goosebumps and made me cry...been a fan ever since.
That entire album is fire, especially this song!
Yes! He really loses it in that - in a great way. Unbridled, undisciplined, all over the place - and glorious!
I was just about to suggest that!!
Yes!!!! The live holly holy is transcending.
Neil says this is a "stream of consciousness " you don't listen to the lyrics you feel the emotions they give you.
Definitely Solitary Man. ❤

Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show, by Neil Diamond
FYI, The Monkees "I'm A Believer & A Lil Bit Me, A Lil Bit You". Neil wrote 'em.
Listen to Brother Loves Traveling Salvation Show!
If you want to really be blown away by Neil, listen to his Jonathan Livingston Seagull soundtrack. “Be” is one of my all time favorites. “Lonely Looking Sky,” and “Dear Father,” along with them being revisited -just magic. Mr. Diamond is a great songwriter. The family knows. " Brother Loves'..." deserves a listen as does my fav, "Solitary Man". ☮💜🎶
Solitary Man is also my favorite!
You felt so sorry for him! First Melinda, then Sue. Guy can't catch a break. Great song. I love his lower register in that one too.
You can never go wrong with Neil. He has so many hits & so many hits he wrote for others.
He is my dream concert to go to...
❤️
My wife and I were fortunate enough to see him twice
Yes, also Jimmy Buffet and Bob Seger will be on that list.
I was lucky to see him twice when he came to Australia - many years apart. He was magnificent both times.
You really need to hear "Brother loves travelin salvation show" that'll send ya back to church !!
Solitary Man..great song and his first hit from about 1965-66.
Neil Diamond is one of those rare timeless acts. His music does not sound dated, as I was shocked to find out that the majority of his giant hits were recorded in the mid 60's. I never would have known. Neil is timeless!!
Hard to believe this is something you could hear on the radio… LOVE this song AND Neil Diamond.
Why?
Love me some Neil Diamond!! "Brother Love's Travelling Salvation Show" next!
The - Hot August Night album version

I love when amber works through the lyrics and tells what's going on and what the song is about. She's always paying attn.
Yes!! 💯🎯
reminds me of the movie music and lyrics. he’s about the music she’s about the lyrics 💜
You want church revival feel? Neil Diamonds "Brother loves travelin show" is my all time favorite. You will love it.😊
Neil has such a fabulous catalogue, not a bad one in the batch.
Neil, the Jewish Elvis.
One of the few singers that actually sings a better version everytime, live. Listen to all of them live on Hot August Night and Love at the Greek.

Sweet Caroline….
SO MANY GREAT SONGS. ❤
For a real treat you should listen to these songs as sung live on Hot August Night. They are better live than in the studio. There is way more passion.
You know it's a powerful song when a Jewish boy from Brooklyn can give you the feeling of being in a southern Baptist church
I was raised listening to Neil Diamond. He's just incredible
Soolaimon ... that's it. That's my whole comment.
You are both truly diverse music lovers. This song touches me, too.
Thank for Holly Holy. As others have said Brother Love is my vote for the next Neil song.
Your going to have to react Neil Diamond's Sweet Caroline, they still sing it at every Boston Red Sox home games.
Jay/Amber, you'll love his "Sweet Caroline", "Song Sung Blue" and "Brother Love's Travelling Salvation Show" !!!
Sing it out brothers, joyously!!!! Can I get an 🙏!!!!!!!!!!!❤❤❤❤
Ready for Brothers Love's Traveling Salvation Show......maybe he opens with Holly holy?????❤❤❤❤❤❤😊
One of my favs and saw him in concert many times. Fantastic !
One of his iconic performances is Sooliamon/Brother Loves Traveling Salvation Show from Hot August Night 1974.
I recommend watching the live version video, from 1973 I believe, he really rips the last part of the song. He also really rips in Brother Loves Traveling Salvation Show.

One of my favourite singers of all time. Such a very distinctive voice. Love me a bit of Neil.
Listen to beautiful sound. Written in New York with his daughter.
This is a song that sweeps you up and carries you away to a better world for that little time you listen to it. I love his song "Play Me." A great love song with one of the most beautiful melodies I've ever heard. "Desiree" is another great, upbeat, classic hit.

Two great Neil diamond tunes
Please try his song- solitary man
Back in '72 Neil released the "Moods" LP/CD. There is a song on it that many people may not have heard of or played before. The song
to look for is "Walk On Water." The longer version of this song (which runs 4:40 minutes) has a beautiful string ending.
There is a live version of Walk on Water. It's on Hot August Night/1972, but it's only on the anniversary edition. It was not on the original LP.
