Very special Angelina Monday. We always love Boudy's reactions AND we learned Angelina will have a concert in Los Angeles on September 20, 2024. Tickets are on sale through Eventbrite, even though the venue hasn't been announced. While an AJ concert to a large crowd there would be amazing, not so sure it would be great with the place only 20% occupied. So....how about a smaller more intimate venue that has a chance of selling out?
@@SteveAckerman-ly3qg I’ve thought about that. With Toby involved in promoting this concert (I assume), since his music will be part of the show, it should be a totally different experience. He is well known in the Los Angeles music scene and her Las Vegas shows had absolutely no promotion except on RUclips. I hope they don’t make that mistake again and get the album released and get her and Toby on TV to promote the album and the concert. If they do that, it’ll sell out no matter where it is!
The Olympics will be over at the end of the week. They need to release the album before football season starts and people get preoccupied with that. Timing is everything and they need to hit while there’s a lull in the major sports and political events.
My Monday fix!
This is close to the Sara Bareilles arrangement. But of course AJ's vocals just take it to a whole other level (ok, several levels). So gorgeous, and as always the beautiful little runs are so appropriate. And then that long run toward the end - I swear one of the most stunningly beautiful runs in, well, ever.
She does this same run in one of her later concerts in Norway, except it doesn't break as it does here, it's gorgeous (as if this wasn't), and I don't remember which of the concerts it was, just that the backdrop was Norway.

The judges comments on this performance were amazing. There is speculation that Angelina sang this song as she knew she would be eliminated because she wouldn't sign a Simon contract. "not a present for your friends to open". Also, who wears a shirt with a picture of their 7 year old self, so precious!

A 13-year-old at the Ella Fitzgerald level is simply incomprehensible. What I love on this one is Angelina's restraint for the quieter parts of the song, and her pauses. She understands the value of silence and simplicity, and yet she can nail ornamentations like the best of the best. Okay, I'll don yellow this week, in honor of AJ. Good idea. A knight wears a lady's "favor". Good word for Angelina. Thanks!!

This performance by Angelina is just delicious!!! And warm and fuzzy and hugs you.
Another great thing about the song choice is that she sang exactly about what she did with AGT: she diidn't sign with them (hence she didn't win), she didn't want to be paraded like a present or trophy and so she said to goodbye to the yellow brick road (easy gold/money). Genius; only Angelina can sing that way at 13 years old or any age for that matter.
One of my absolute favorites from Angelina. That puts it in a rarified group of about two or three dozen AJ songs. I think she felt the need to show the AGT people what she could do in the couple minutes she had available.
As with other songs she’s covered, I understood for the first time the meaning of the lyrics. Elton was glam rock and musical production-Angelina is the singer who lives the lyrics with the voice that I want to hear every day of my life.

Great reaction Boudy! This was Angelina's song for the Finals of AGT and she shocked the heck out of me when I first saw this on tv. She sang this song beautifully and that last run toward the end of the song? WOW! That run gives me chills every time I hear this. Better than Bohemian Rhapsody for me.
I think of this as the "ow" song. Listen to how she clearly adjusts multiple lyrical "ow"s to relate the pain of a breakup. Also a shout out to the writer.
Yes so SP-EC-TA-CU-LA,all of Angelina’s performances on AGT Champions were phenomenal, but this is my personal favourite, Angelina puts in so much emotion into this performance and this is so hypnotic to listen to, great reaction thanks 🙏
Amazing reaction Boudy, I loved. With her version Angelina has really reinterpreted the beauty, the color, the voice, the style of a legendary song and of exceptional songwriter, she has created a little yellow jewel "made in Angelina" (also with her t-shirt printed with her photo at the age of 7 at NGT). This performance of her remains fantastic for me, such appropriate use of her fantastic runs and tone variations is so fascinating! This girl has an absolutely unique talent and taste and she is not afraid of anything, there are no impossible songs for her, she will find a way to transform them with her extraordinary musical intelligence. Angelina is pure musical poetry and her vocal runs are unreal. 💛🧡❤

What a wonderful reaction again, thank you. Angelina is so, so tasteful in using her vocals. As you say: never too much and never too less, but just right. That's a gift on its own. Another singer who is mastering that craft on a very high level (a different genre, so no competition here!!) is 20 years old Lucy Thomas from the UK. Try her rendition of "Hallelujah" from Lenard Cohen she recorded when she was 17, which is 3 years ago. I think it would be the start for you of discovering a new, so to speak, rabbit hole.

I was so captivated by this performance when I saw it live on AGT. The run at the end was so spectacular. But fast forward a couple of years to April 30, 2022 when Angelina did a TikTok version. That TikTok version is a refined and full length version that supersedes this AGT version by far...especially the end run. While I think there was an emotional component in the AGT version that was not in the TikTok version, the TikTok version is technically superior. For those of us who lived through the angst of watching Angelina be moved to the sideline in the AGT rankings, we learned that the AGT contract requirements were not acceptable to Angelina's family management. Ultimately, Angelina would find a contract with Republic a year or so later. But you can see the change in Angelina's demeanor from the first audition, Bohemian Rhapsody, to Yellow Brick Road. In between these two, Angelina's team declined the AGT contracts, and this placed Angelina on the sideline insofar as winning AGT with her brilliant performances. Her enthusiasm dampened, she still performed brilliantly.

She's really the goat... And these masterpieces of a songs that she can just nail like that on that young age! These are not just some generic pop songs to be copied. And she was just too good to be theirs to manipulate! I'm glad she didn't sign, the win is secondary on that show, it kinda like just shows who got bamboozled. Btw, who did win? If you want to see Angelina’s stink eye, check out her “At Last” rehearsal at age 8 where the band performed too fast and off key. She gave the adult “professionals” her hands on the hip routine and waved her mother over to help her assert her wishes. Yes! Angelina can express irritation! See for yourself! This was during Angelina's run and breathy period. She was 13 when she started the show. Angelina was in the middle of an overall phase of vocal and dynamic used in music. She had a period of time with Norah Jones and even opened a show or two while both were in South Korea. There is a video of an 10-11 year old Angelina coming back on stage to sing another song, because Norah's group wasn't ready. I leave the link below.

My impression from the beginning was that these extensive riffs, runs and microruns were a very special gift, dedicated to the American audience, as it is known that such things are extremely well received there. I don't remember her ever doing anything like that again with such intensity.
There are clear differences between this performance and Sarah Bareilles' arrangement, but the fact she could comfortably slide onto the stage and play with the arrangement at 13...makes you forget that this doen't happen in the real world.

🎶👣💫💎🎶 I doubt this was intentional, but that run (and her mannerisms) towards end sort of reminds me of the cowardly lion in the Wizard of Oz. This song being sung about the yellow brick road therefore makes me chuckle. Truly a beautiful flourish in all seriousness.

A moment of true beauty. A rare thing these days. Perhaps she's never been more beautiful. When the camera moves from right to her left and we see her, tall, slim, with that mass of hair, she's splendid. I remember one woman's comment: A Greek goddess. At 13. I read that this song wasn't really her choice, that in the final she couldn't sing the one she'd prepared but had to choose from a list of 4-5 songs.

You should react to Angelina’s cover of Mercy (Duffy cover). It’s from a movie soundtrack (The Hating Game). She sings all of the various vocals on it (including the backing and rap).
There is also a live version from her Westgate show.

Boudy, the context of this performance is complex. AJ wasn't going to sign with Simon, which means she couldn't win (remember, there was NO TV VOTING in this competition -- it was all "super-fan" voting in the arena, and who knows what that means?). AJ was 13 here, but AGT didn't release this performance until she was 14. If you want to sleep poorly, look up the group that won the "Champion's" competition. However, AJ performed "Someone You Loved" during the finals -- and was far better than the "winners" in 2020 (recorded in 2019).
