  • K-S or KS test.
    Non-parametric test.
Compares between sample distribution and theoretical distribution.
Test whether the data is normally distributed or not.
H0 : Data distribution is normal.
HA: Data distribution in not normal.
If P less than 0.05 then data distribution is not normal.
If P greater than 0.05 then data distribution is normal.
Normality test outcomes influence selection of statistical tests.

There is a difference between both. There is difference in their assumptions. The Shapiro-Wilk test commonly used for smaller sample sizes, while Kolmogorov-Smirnov test is more general and used for theoretical distribution, not just the normal distribution.

Thank you, it's really helpful. 😊I've seen other people's videos, and I'm getting confused when I compare my normality test results with your first method and your second method. In this video, I just realized my mistake by forgetting to remove the checkmark. However, I'm curious why there have to be different ways to do this KS test? Is there a difference in terms of each of these methods? Thanks

Hi, thank you very much, my question and to know when the distribution is normal does it mean that the measurement tool or the questionnaire is sensitive? Or it is when the distribution is irregular that it is noticeable. THANKS

Dear Sir, I appreciate your work, your explanation was incredibly clear, and it made a complex topic much easier to understand.
I've encountered a specific challenge with a sample consisting of 45 individuals. In this dataset, the p-value obtained from the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test falls below 0.05, while the p-value from the Shapiro-Wilk test exceeds 0.05. I would like to inquire whether this suggests that the data conforms to a normal distribution or not?
I'm a medical student, and I'm seeking a book recommendation to study the topic of assessing data for normality. My aim is to develop a strong understanding of this subject and build my confidence in it.

Thank you so much. I have a question. if you want to use non parametric alternative to two way anova which test will be used? can we use scherier ray hare for this? but after this, which post hoc test will be used that also tell you about interaction effects ? like i am using Dunn test. but it is not telling me about interaction term for 2 factors. please help me in this regard

I'm very grateful for your excellent explanation; you've been a real lifesaver.
I'm seeking your guidance regarding a situation I've encountered. I possess a dataset comprising 61 individuals, some of whom have been diagnosed with metabolic syndrome while the rest do not exhibit this condition. My aim is to conduct an age-based comparison between these two groups - those with metabolic syndrome and those without. Should I assess the normality of age distribution separately within each group, conducting one test for individuals with metabolic syndrome and another for those without, or would it be more advisable to conduct a single normality test for all 61 individuals together?

Do normality test for each group separately

    Dear Ayesha
I might need to have a look at your data and then see if we can fit it with two way ANOVA
even it has violated certain assumptions.
