I don't think French people are rude at all. If anything, i find the French to be extremely polite and well-mannered. I do think that certain particularities in French culture might be interpreted as rude to Americans. For instance, French people are very straightforward about things. They tell it like it is and mean no harm by it. For them, it's just being honest. For instance if you say "Sorry my french is not that good." an American would say "Oh no that's fine! It's better than mine! lol" whereas a French person would be like "You're right, it is pretty bad. Try to practice more or you can just speak english so it's easier for you"

    • @KleineFrauOhneName
      @KleineFrauOhneName 6 лет назад +126

Haha tbh i would never say something like "you're right, it is pretty bad", which i dont find polite at all. But I see your point, and you're right. Something that will sound polite in a culture will sound super rude in another one :)

Quite accurate. I have tremendous appreciation for the French authenticity. In the U.S. where I reside, the pressure to envelop oneself in a veil of false smiles and forced cheerfulness can be exhausting. My inherent temperament is much better suited to French culture.

Ok so once again as a foreigner living in France for more than 10 years, I'ma give you my real unbiased opinion. 1 French people don't take showers = not true at all... They take showers like any other country.
2 French men are amazing lovers = That I don't know since I'm a man and I can only talk for myself, but French women don't seem to complain about it so I don't know...
3 French men are cheaters = I'd say no, they are much more faithful than many other countries I've known.
4 French men are effeminate = I would not say that they're effeminate but I would say that they're kinda soft lol.. they are not at all macho and they're not as manly as other countries like Russia or eastern Europe LMFAO.
5 they don't speak English, that is true, and that's because of the way they are taught English in school in my opinion, and also they only have French media, like everything on TV would be french even though it's an American show. for a modern rich European country they are behind on being multilingual compared to countries like Sweden, Denmark and Germany that I've been to, they speak very well English ..
6 French people are pretentious and not polite = I can't agree with that I've seen much worst!! French are very polite and not that arrogant although I must say that they complain A LOT!!
7 = French people smoke = A LOT maybe too much!! I was shocked when I arrived here and saw like 14 or 16 year olds smoking cigarettes wtf!!!!
Hope that helps... nice country and people, a lot of culture but stay away from Paris lol.

People who understand a language will always be able to understand you when you are speaking that language correctly, no matter how thick your accent is. And, speaking for myself, as a native English-speaker, it’s really fascinating to hear anyone whose native language isn’t English speaking English and to try and understand how the qualities of their native dialect shape the way they speak any language.

I’m a foreign student living in France. And I can totally disagree with the stereotype of French people being rude,it’s literally the opposite .. Why?
Because whenever some french person that you don’t know passes by and sees you ,he immediately say :Bonjour =Hello.
I’m not kidding, they do that especially in my school (the teachers take the initiative some times)
    + they are so helpful.

Generally speaking this video reflects reality. We do smoke a lot, we take showers every day, we don't speak english very well, we're not all effeminate (yeah it's worse in Italy) and we're not amazing lovers (but it's true we kinda love all girls so...). To finish I would say that we're not arrogant, we are proud patriots and we love our amazing country just like americans are proud of the USA. And yes a lot of us are big fans of the US and Japan.

French men are complicated and the first impression can be negative, but they are good inside. Very sensitive and a bit fragile. And they consist of contrasts, pragmatics and romantics at the same time. They love to complain, yes, but c'mon all men love to complain to their women, it's not only French people. As Russian, I can say that French and Russian people are different, but they are very similar at their craziness. 😂 Maybe that's why Russian-French couple is often a good match. I don't know if French people rude or not, cause I am Russian 😂 I don't understand American standards of being nice and they seem to me too much to be honest. People don't owe to act happy and excited every day and French culture is based on reflexion, introspection. It's the culture Russia was always inspired by and it had big influence on Russian literature, philosophy and political ideas. I don't want French people to loose their culture while trying to be more acceptable by others.

I would rather say that it comes from the 17th century when nobles people wouldn't shower for weeks even months... And, as it was the period of colonisation, this habit was spread around the colonies and so, eventhough we evolved, people in the colonies still believed for a long time that we weren't showering (because we were separated mostly by the ocean so news took a long time to reach the colonies).
I think that explains the stereotype

Nearly two decades in France and I'd like to come to the defense of the Parisians who, though they might be not as friendly as in some other parts of France, warm up well once you've broken the ice. And once they're friends, they're very good friends who will be considerate. Also, on the speaking English thing, they are more shy than anything. I think it's because of the French schools, where they're not encouraged to make mistakes. French are frightened of looking foolish sometimes, more so than other cultures. So they come across as a little closed... but really, they're just being careful...

where I live we don't say "hello" in the street to strangers. I'm not living in Paris and yet, we don't do that. And it doesn't mean we hate strangers: this is not a thing we do, that's all.
In contrast, we say "hello" when we enter a shop, and we don't expect the vendor to be our servant, that's a basic rule for us.
Also we don't tip as much as in US (for instance), because the waiter is already paid by his/her boss. Plus, as French, I think waiters are not really kind in France. Waiter's kindess is nice cue of the overall quality of the place you want to dine or have a drink. SO... if the waiter is rude, just run and find a better place. A rude waiter means bad manager, means unhappy workers, bad kitchen and so on.. run...

He was very handsome, and also yes, he was a famous ‘coureur de jupon’ (aka skirt chaser). I grew up in Chile, hearing about how wonderful and refined French culture is. For example, In the royal courts of Europe, Russia, it was ‘de rigueur’ to read and speak French fluently. But of course, it is never good to generalize. I am just grateful to have learned French, it is a beautiful language. French men also are incredibly sexy, yes, there is a softness when they speak is, that is true, and it is heaven to my ears. I wouldn’t say that French people are typically polite. For instance, people in Quebec say to each other good morning every time when they have the eye contact and even if they don’t know each other at all they do it too. However when I came to France, I kept the tradition of nodding and saying good morning to other students of my school when we met each other in the corridor, they got really shocked and they refuse to give a positive response. After a while I stopped saying bonjour to those who I don’t know cause it really made me awkward...

If you are searching for the meaning of beauty just look at the girl @ 2:50. I know God has made a lot of breath taking creations but she is one of the few we can call His masterpiece.

They complain about French who do not speak english, but the journalist needed the help of a French woman to translate because she can't speak our language😧😧 i'd say English are way worse in learning foreign languages than French (btw forgive my mistakes i'm french)
