As a Swiss who speak French and talk with a lot of French people, I would say that French people are really fast at having an opinion even with things they didn't knew before. But it's true that you can talk a lot about everything and they may change their mind. They are just normal people and generally kind hearted, good friends to have.

This goes hand in hand with what the girl said about French people valuing honesty - I now absolutely believe her! ❤I just LOVED how honest and transparent they were about every single question. And the fact that they can do that while clearly loving their country at the same time - I really admire that! This was a great video with great people! ❤ Also, my favourite line: "Your neighbour will never look like Gabriel" 😂

I am not french but I am a french canadian who befriended a lot of french people in her life. And here it is what I have to say:
-French people value honesty highly! This can explain the cheating cliché. Study have found that there is no more cheating in France than other western countries but when asked the question, french people would be more likely to admit it. They are just less hypocrite about it.
-French people truly love to debate! They are very cultured people. As a french canadian, I prefer to converse with them. With other north americans, the conversation are often about houses, cars, weather and other things superficial. With them, you can discuss history, politics, society, etc. You can have very deep and philosophical conversations even with a stranger and that's amazing! They know how to argue and be intellectual.
-The cliché I hate the most is the one that says: "French always surrender". Since they are my cousins, it triggers me a lot since part of their history is my own as well. Not only it is false (France actually has the most successful military history in the world) but it is also a huge disrespect to plenty of french soldiers who died for our freedom (the ones who fought during american revolution, the ones who battled at Verdun and the ones who protected british soldiers so they could escape at Dunkirk when they saw they couldn't defeat the Nazis). I wish people would be more educated about that.
Besides that, plenty of love toward my mother country!

@@gigi4713 Some Quebecois love to debate (me and many members of my family do love to do it) but you have to find them. This is not like the french people who made it their national sport. However, one element you will probably love is the absence of polarization you can find in the USA. Quebecois are mostly centrist. During election, we are known for our political mood swings (we can change our mind very often). In fact, we have this advantage above french in the sense we are open to change our opinion (French love to debate but they often feel the need to win the argument thus the stereotype of their arrogance). Of course, it will always depend of the person you meet!

I’m from Paris, born and raised, and yes parisians are rude, I think it’s a general atmosphere like, people are stressed out, they run everywhere because they are late, everyone is on edge. It’s actually very hard to live in the city. I’m a uni student so for me it’s kind nice to have a ton of things to do, a lots of people to meet everyday but I would love the city to be more welcoming and friendlier cause you can get depressed quite easily... Paris is like a mixing pot of a hundred different cultures that (try) to live together. I like to think people in Paris aren’t mean because it’s their personality because when you get to know them they are very nice, it’s just the atmosphere that makes everybody on edge.
But if you come to France you should definitely come to Paris because the architecture, the culture, museums, theaters… are all very nice and must be seen at least once in your life, just enjoy the city and it’s beauty rather then the people ;) (don’t get scared we’re not all the same, just be warned that parisians are mostly not very welcoming)
But of course don’t just go to Paris they are so many beautiful places in France to visit, cities but also landscapes, mountains, beaches, the see… And people are much nicer in other cities, I personally love the south of France where people are very welcoming, open and friendly ! (And the History isn’t only located in Paris)
Anyway, to everyone wanting to visit France, I hope you have a wonderful time in our beautiful country !

I think "province" people always criticizing the parisians is also kind of a stereotype, especially when we consideer the fact that people in Paris are nearly all people from province that came there to study/work. The long journies to work, the crowds, the masses of tourists... contribute a lot in this parisian atmosphere AND people exaggerate a lot the "rudeness" of parisians.

Haha. As an Argentine, almost all these stereotypes apply to us as well. Within Latin America, Argentina has the reputation of being arrogant, cocky, egocentric, delusional, and obnoxiously proud, sometimes even racist with our Eurocentric superiority complex. But that is honestly the image that people from our capital Buenos Aires (porteños) have forever fed the rest of the world. I heard many people saying that Argentinians don't consider themselves Latin American, because back in my parents' generation, Argentinians would say that. But that was when we were predominantly a country of European immigration, and socioeconomically we were considered a first world country (that was a long time ago). But I can tell you these days, almost every Argentinian considers themselves Latin Americans.
But yea, there is a big divide between people from the capital and people from the provinces, who are much more laid back and humble. The capital is just more chaotic, fast-paced, with people from all over the country and continent, that it is inevitable to not have this "cara de culo" attitude. It's almost like a defense mechanism. Even within Argentina, no one likes people from Buenos Aires, especially with the corrupt politicians living there. Also, we Argentines love to complain and debate. There is always a riot in the street causing traffic, whether it is teachers protesting for more wages, or wanting the current president out, and we can argue about politics, economy, football, history, abortion, gay rights, racism, etc. all day of the week, whether we are at a dinner table, at a park having some mate, at a cafe, at a parrilla with friends and family. Regarding the complaining part, I did hear from other Latin Americans, that Argentinians are among the most entitled and difficult to deal with costumers. Can't help it that our people are opinionated and direct

Incroyable que ce stéréotype du Français arrogant persiste et soit de plus confirmé par des Français…
What is a stereotype you´re tired of hearing ? Exactly this « arrogant and rude » BS.
I´m French and I´ve lived abroad for many years (Greencard holder), here´s the simple answer: No we´re not arrogant or rude. No more no less than other nationalities.
Being rude is a lack of education and being arrogant is a personality trait. Do all French have this personality trait and/or this lack of education ? Definitely not. It depends on the person you meet and also the circumstances. We have to be honest and admit we´ve all been assholes at some point to somebody including foreigners.
Another problem I noticed is 99% of foreigners go to Paris and come across a Parisian who has been asked where is the Eiffel tower for the 20th time this day. Unfortunately, this time, he might not give you an answer to you as he did for the other tourists earlier that day and appear rude as a result. Paris is a big business city where people are busy, incredibly stressed out and run to the subway to go where they need to be. I am not fond of this attitude myself but Parisians are not all like that and are not representative of French culture on top of it. Go to NYC you´ll experience the same rudeness for example because they are busy. Last time I crossed the Brooklyn bridge I was called a « fucking tourist », it just happens lmao.
If you happen to be in France, go to Lyon, Strasbourg, Rennes or any other French city. You´ll see that French people are more relaxed and very nice overall minus the occasional dickhead which is common to every country. We´re sorry if you cross their path, rest assured they do not represent us.
The only thing this video confirms on French culture is that they are OVERLY CRITICAL about lots of things including themselves and their country. That is sadly very true.
For example, when French people are abroad or among foreigners I´ve noticed they have a tendency to be overly critical towards their own country or culture in the hope of appearing as « the nice one » and trying to fit in. The problem with this strategy, on top of being obviously fake, is that it´s a vicious circle where you reinforce people´s stereotype and as a result find youself constantly criticizing your country to fit in. We´re not doing anybody a favor here. You can potentially deter people from discovering our culture and you make it harder for French abroad who are doing our best to give a good image and fit in.
To get back to the video and debunk what my fellow-countrymen and women said :
    - French are arrogant and rude : FALSE
    - French are natural at seduction : FALSE. Some people are good at seducing, others are not.
    - French only want to speak French and nothing else : FALSE. It used to bet true with older generations because language teaching in France is TERRIBLE. Now it´s not true as younger generations listen to a lot of English on RUclips and Netflix and have the opportunity to bypass the school system.
    - French complain a lot : TRUE as demonstrated by the French people in this video.
    - French stink : FALSE. To be honest I only see this stereotype being mentioned by trolls on the internet, I´ve never met someone IRL who told me that.
    - French love to debate : TRUE. We love it, it is how we spend most of our time.
    - French cheat on each other : FALSE. Not anymore than other nationalities.
Good thing is foreigners who come to me always tell me how they have met and worked with wonderful French people and know this arrogant BS is not true. Thank god for them I love you guys :). Sorry for writing such a long reply to debunk this particular stereotype but out of all the BS I´ve heard about us, this one pops up in my daily life a bit too much :)

French from the East here 👋😊🇫🇷
    - Rude and arrogant: sadly true!
    - Natural at seduction and incredible lovers: we do like to seduce yes, but does it make us incredible lovers? So ... 50-50
    - Only speak French and don't want to speak English : Yeap, but you need to understand that English is so bad taught at school and everyone is mocking you if you dare to speak good English with a correct accent.
    - Complain a lot: Absolutely, nothing is never good enough for us! A concret example : At school you are going to write a whole text with ''only'' two mistakes, the teacher will focuse much more on your two mistakes and will barely tell you how great your text was despite the two mistakes.
    - Stink/ perfume: No idea where that cliché comes from ..., But fragrances are definitely a huge industry in our country
    - Love to debate everything and anything : Yes, 100%, I mean: Do you only want to talk about the weather and superficial stuffs wenn you meet someone new? Small talk is an american useless thing, we love concrete things and we LOVE giving our opinions and debating.
    - Cheat on each other: Not everyone, all my relationships have been without cheating for example.
    - A stereotype I'am tired of hearing : that we don't speak good English and that our accent is terrible. A lot of us are making effort on the prononciation by speaking and understand how important English is in a globalised world, especially the new generation
    - Something I want the world to know : FRANCE.IS.NOT.PARIS. Please when you are coming to France, try to visit our other areas: Bretagne, Normandie, Pays basque, Alsace, Picardie, Provence, Alpes, or also our islands and our territories over the seas, you will not regret it! 😊🇫🇷❤️

As french, I find American very rude. And I totally know in fact it's not the truth. Why ? Because they doesn't have french manners. It's only a cultural thing in both way.
For example when I was in USA, saying hello is not something natural here. They started to speak and ask questions without introduction, especially if you're a worker in a shop or something. Try that in France, they will be really rude.
And in USA they doesn't said thanks or any forms of politeness into workers like in France (thanks you ! good luck and have a great day)
It's like they considered them like king when they paid.
In France we doesn't like that at all, you need to be nice even if you paid for a service, "consumer is king" doesn't exist here. Consumer is just a regular people. It's probably coming from french revolution.
Being too friendly is also really rude in France, it's look like weird, people like their own safe space. You need to respect that.

That’s absolutely true. Stereotypes come from cultural differences that leads to misunderstandings. I remember when I went to Montréal (Québec) I stayed in a building for travelers and the woman at the reception started small talks with me and ended it brutally. I was stunned because I thought we had a real conversation. But no, it was pure politeness for a Canadian. I could have been offended but I understood that it was just a cultural difference. 😄

Actually, I kind the like the part “debate, rude to people, complaining about everything”.
Because in Vietnam (this is just only my own thought and opinion) cannot complain, debate and be rude to anyone because in Vietnam especially in Saigon if you are rude to any people they might take out the knight or a gun to kill somebody yelling at them (just some people would do that, so if you're foreigner don’t worry about it, the reason because we live in a com.munist system which the law has not protected the citizen which made people really angry but cannot let it out).
Anytime someone of a group of friends, family members or any kind they’re debating someone immediately says “stop, we won’t say this anymore, let's stop this conversation, etc, ... Which I really hate it. I want to express my own thought and my opinions.
In Vietnam (at least my family and people around me) don’t like to complain because they think YOU ARE WEAK SO YOU COMPLAINING and they will say: “why are you complaining so much? You don’t have anything better to say?! You should know that you are better than everybody else”. HELL NO!! I am not feeling ok, why I have to feel is fine, when things are suck?!
This is just my own thought :) don’t feel sorry for me, I feel better now. Write down here what you like to complaining.

I think there is more than that for the French. It's also a way to socialize. Actually we truly love to complain even if the thing we complain about barely bothers us. It can be too hot, too cold, too different between the morning and the afternoon, it can be about the bad driver I encountered on my way to meet you, about the noise caused by the train passing by, about the post office that was "exceptionnally" closed this morning etc... It's essentially a way to start a conversation.

Probably one of the biggest ironies out of my travels was that not even the citizens of Hiroshima made me feel as out of place or inconvenienced as an American as the Parisians. One guy decided to randomly flash our boat as we went down the Seine, a lady tried to pickpocket a guy's bag maybe ten feet away from me, and yeah, this group of teenagers in jeans dared to get McDonalds near the end of our trip. I'm not sure if that warrants dark looks and what appeared to be gossip from another table, but you do you, I guess. The art kinda made up for it all, though; Italy, Spain, Guatemala, and Honduras didn't have anything nearly as creative as a metro poster squirrel with both a sizable phallus and set of breasts drawn onto it. Anyway, it sounds like I'm going to have to try to visit a different part of France if I get the chance.

My impression is that Americans come off very abrupt to French people. Before you ask for a pack of galoises, say “bonjour!” If you walk into a Drs reception room say “bonjour” to the entire room as you enter. Speak in a normal tone. This goes for smaller shops, as well. Say “Bonjour” as you enter, then Say it to the person behind the counter before asking for what you want. This a
Parisians especially like a bit of effort when dressing, even casually dressed. Replace sneakers with good ankle boots or something.
People aren’t going to smile. They will question your sanity if you don’t time it down.
America is the country that has and advised us to SMILE for over a century. I hear Europeans mention recognizing Americans by the sweats, sneakers, and smiling for no apparent reason.
I don’t want to get started on how gross it is to wear sweatpants evetywhere but when you aren’t at the gym),
It really seems odd, until you think of time period. Lots from the 1910’s, 30’s, & 40’s, up appear telling us to keep our chin up, and we’ll get through.
    Smile.
    Put On a Happy Face
Many more. America has insisted that Americans smile, or at least try to, in order to raise morale during especially trying times. Some of these type songs are heartbreaking to me.
It’s damned fine propaganda because it actually winds up working. Fortunately for my generation we still got to hear & learn a lot of these.
In The 60’s, music changed a lot, and a lot happened to change it! 1968 was so fraught and intense in America, a lot of us, especially pre-teen, had no idea France herself went through some serious revolutionary culture & social changes, too! Very serious unrest in France in 1968, but things were so nonstop shocking in the US that 11-year-old me did not learn about it til I was long an adult.
America is the most propagandized country, and the propaganda turned revengeful after 9/11/2001. It worked so well Bushes non-war lasted 20 years, and in less than four, destroyed womens healthcare and caused many deaths by lack of concern. Wealth inequality has skyrocketed, and minimum wage still hasn’t budged because we’ve been convinced that the CEO deserves another raise. His current
$14 MILLION a year package just doesn’t go as far, and if we raise minimum wage, prices will go up. So you all get nothing, and prices go up anyway. Suckers.

As a Parisian, I really like it when French people from other cities than Paris say that Parisians are rough, because in fact that is somewhat the case, but there are cities that are much worse.
The latest survey carried out in France on this subject carried out in 2023 ranks the following cities as the most impolite in France: 1. Lyon, 2. Marseille, 3. Nice & 4 Paris.
We always see the faults in others and rarely in ourselves...

These type of video is just boring, we talk about what french actually ?
As far I can remember there's just the Parisian who are rude, and the french easily speak English. To remind you the Spanish and the Italian cannot speak English at all in most case, and even the German pretend to don't speak english.
Anyway, but arrogant, and complain about everything. Yes .

I'm portuguese and the only thing I've found a bit weird about the french when compared to other countries I've been to all over Europe is how they CAN be very awkward when it comes to having to speak english even when they know it. And this adds to the fact they can be very closed off when in groups. Like the nordic countries also have a reputation of being tribalistic with their friend groups and being almost impossible to a nordic person to consider you a friend..........but at least if they are together and you are with them, you'll be included. The french have been some of the most akward people I've been around when they are in groups.....it's like they are afraid of other people contaminating their relationship or something lol.

I don't know who you've met with but they're definitely not the right people and they're absolutely not representative of the country. Generally when a foreigner is among us, we are rather curious and give the person a lot of attention. We like to ask questions and discuss. We're not really the type to push people aside.
