I studied Spanish at first, and then I switched to studying French because the Spanish speak so fast that after practicing and practicing, I just can’t hear individual words, and I enjoy the sound of French more and the Spanish. I’m glad I switched to French because after just a couple months, I can actually understand a good portion of what people are saying in French, and it just comes more natural to me in general. I also find myself more able to think in French after just a couple months than I was in Spanish after years. I still don’t speak it too well, but contrary to popular belief, I find French so much more enjoyable and so much easier than Spanish. It actually gives me more motivation to keep going I actually feel like I’m finally going to achieve bilingualism!

I visited Paris (and other French cities) three times in my life and I smell nobody's terrible stinky in my sightseeings (and I took a lot of subways around the city). I visited Vienna (beautiful, by the way) and THERE I smell people very stinky on the subway (It was terrible). I'm from a tropical country (Brazil) and I do shower a lot (03 times a day or more).
When I went to Europe, in late autumn, the weather was mild and the temperatures are not so high, so I found it necessary to take only 02 baths a day (when I woke up and before I go to sleep), and I found myself clean. I think it’s a cultural issue associated with the climate of colder countries. I just LOOOOVE Paris too much!!! The country (France) and the people are always in my heart.............

Ok, I am french but I am currently living in London for about 4 years now. It is true that there are a lot of clichés about french people and the fact of being outside my homeland make me realised that most of them are true. This is mainly due to cultural differences rather than real flaws meaning that according to someone standards, the other will act differently and in a weird way but the other will think the completely opposite about you. For instance, it is true, us french people, we are protesting A LOT and moaning a lot as well but in turn, me as french in London, I will say that English people don't express themselves and prefer to hide everything down when something is not right... this is a matter of point of view. The fact of moaning and protesting a lot is just a consequence of being more direct. This may also explain why we are identified as rude as well.

I made my own analyse about the reputed "french rudeness". I think it's a mostly american feeling taking roots in the cultural differences of mentality : America has a deep culture of optimism, positivity and motivation mindset. Its common to talk to anybody you want to talk to on public spaces, markets or whatever. If you seek help to somebody, he will cheerfully act like you're in a friendship, living you a phone number even though he may often don't give a damn about you and never call you back later on. Friendliness is a natural social code in america even though it may be fake, and every interaction shall be positive.
France on the other hand does not have such a culture of interaction. It is almost rude to stop someone in the street to chat about something because people have things to do and must not be disturbed. If you actually need something, french indeed have a politeness etiquette which enable to friendly ask for something, but if you step outside of it "Bonjour" + "excusez moi de vous déranger.." you'll not receive a nice greeting. Things tourist don't know about most of the time.
To be simple, americans put loads of vaseline on their exchanges.

    • @EasyFrench
      @EasyFrench  4 года назад +2

    French stereotypes:
    •eat a lot of croissants
    •have tiny portions of food
•women’s fashion/makeup goal is to look “effortless” but polished (I.e. messy bun, minimal makeup, red lipstick but no lip liner)
•French people commonly have extramarital affairs & it’s not a taboo
    •French women have hairy armpits
    •French men have squiggly mustaches
•French ppl look down on Americans
    •French are very blunt & don’t sugarcoat
    •French always dress great
Generally, I can say as an American, we think pretty highly of France ❤️ 😎

I am Brazilian and there are also many stereotypes about us. For example, they think we live in the middle of the Amazon or in Rio de Janeiro (funny fact, I never went to these two places), or that we just party all year long, walk around in our bikinis and drink caipirinha. I don't even need to talk about how uncomfortable this stereotype is...

Yeah that one is false lmao
The rest of them are pretty correct I think, or at least they have some truth to them.
Still, I think most girls shave their armpits, and plenty of people don't care how they dress, however a lot of french girls will do their makeup and pick a good outfit even if it's just to go do the groceries for example...

My grandparents told me it is quite true that up until a couple of decades ago, full-body-and-hair bathing or showering were a once-weekly affair all over Europe, not just France. One would wash their face and ears in the morning, brush their teeth, and possibly wash one's feet in the evening. As most people know by now, perfume was invented centuries ago to mask the body odors of the upper crust, who hardly bathed at all. In Victorian England, those who could afford a bath tub bathed , but the poor were likely to bathe only once a year.

    • @francaisfacileCyril
      @francaisfacileCyril 2 года назад

Agree. My grandparents had to go to a public bath, so they would not bath often for a good practical reason. Now it's because of the problem of the lack of water that people avoid taking bath in France. Baths are not really eco-friendly. Especially because French people don't bathe in the same water (I saw families bathe in the same water in England, and of course it's the norm in Japan).

I´m from Germany. Out of all the Country's that share borders with us, France is definitely the one we have the most stereotypes about. At least that's what im experiencing.
    So here they are:
°French people eat a lot of cheese, baguettes and croissants
°They eat weird things like frog legs and snails
°They love wine, especially the red ones
    °French people are arrogant
°French men are a bit greasy
°French women are beautiful, but hard to handle
    °French people dislikes German people
    °French people smoke a lot
°French people rarely know foreign languages
°People from Paris are way too aggressive and rude (There aren't any other stereotypes for specific cities in France besides Paris, as far as I know)
° French people are good lovers (at least in the sheets)
Then there are the jokes about Elsass-Lothringen and other things out of our shared past.
Personally, I've been to France a few times, since I live close to the borders and what shall I say. A lot of the stereotypes were represented in a lot of the people from Paris (sorry folks), but in the end it all comes down to the individual. I love the French countryside, I love French wine (Champagner tastes like shit tough) and cheese, I love the blundness and I love a French woman.
P.S.: Our bread is way superior.

Also, French style is recognised as supreme, so what's wrong with striped t-shirts? I have seven. And berets are really in again. As for baguettes and croissants, everyone cheers up when a French patisserie moves into the neighbourhood. The only downside is you know you are going to put on 10 kilos that you won't be able to shift. The way you speak English is totally seductive and cute. But perhaps there is a certain tendency towards endless argument about nothing at all. I blame Voltaire and all those enlightenment types. Love your channel.

Thanks for the very detailed comment! It's nice to hear that our UK neighbors like our style and food, and even our way of speaking English (of which many French people are ashamed of). And thanks for supporting us :)

haha you nailed it : pointless argument is our religion but we don't have to agree to love each other, it's more like sports it's a game "joute verbale".

I've been living abroad for 10 years, surrounded by foreigners almost exclusively, and in my experience, there's some kind of fascination or obsession with France and the French, whether it's positive or negative. There's ALWAYS something to say about the French. No matter what, no matter how trivial it is, when it comes to the French, people want to see something more complicated in it. And they cling to their stereotypes, even if you prove them wrong XD Once I was dressed in black from head to toe and I got 'you look so French today'. Yup, being dressed in black is a French exclusivity - however you've never seen me like that before, so how is it 'so French' exactly, knowing that I'm also half Spanish? :) You have no idea how many times I tell my friends or workmates 'oh, this one too? Let me add it to the very long list of French stereotypes!' That said, we all get along so well, we come from everywhere around the world and it's amazing to share and teach each other so many things, I love it to bits.

YES I've been trying to articulate that very same thought all over the internet but foreigners don't get it. English speakers tend to have a weird sense of ownership towards France.

Charles this is because the French people and France in general have a huge role in their history , while for the French that is not the case !

I don't speak French, not trying to learn either but it's nice to listen to. I didn't even read the subtitles most of the video.
