For other learners, this is how I use Easy French to really help with comprehension: 1. I watch the first 30-60 seconds without looking at the subtitles, solely focused on listening. I will maybe repeat this process 1-3 times. 2. I go back and rewatch the same 30-60 seconds, but this time look at the French subtitles, covering up the English with my fingers. Sometimes I will even pause the video to really read each sentence! 3. Finally, I rewatch the same 30-60 seconds again and look at the English and French as simultaneously as I can. ...Then I repeat this process with the next 30-60 seconds of the video and so on!!! I have such a passion for learning French! I look forward to my lessons everyday. It’s the most beautiful language in the world!!! Thanks Easy French!!!!(:
I have the same passion for learning French. IT IS the most beautiful language in the world. BTW, the outgoing message on my phone is in French. You might be amazed at how this discourages telemarketers here in the U.S.
I get the impression that Americans view and glorify Paris the way some French people view and glorify New York. Both are smaller parts of a whole and aren’t fully representative of each country but often define the whole country to outsiders.
@@phylliswilliams9800 It’s the case. It’s not because a country is smaller that it is less culturally diverse. Look at the UK, it’s smaller than both Texas and France and yet there are scottish, welsh and english cultures living together. Look at Spain, there is the Basque people, the Catalonian people or the Andalousian, and they are all very different and historically don’t speak the same language. The same goes for France, eastern french people (Alsatian and Lorrainer) have a strong germanic culture while southern-east french people (Povençal) have a culture very close to Northern Italians and south-west french people are very related to Northern Spaniards such as the Basque or the Catalonians. Then the North-Western french (Breton) have a tipycal celtic culture. Almost every countries have strong cultural divide and difference within themselves. May be Luxembourg is an exception, because these guys really are too small.
What's interesting to me is that Darren Star who's a main writer for Sex and the City( also helped to write Emily in Paris) and SATC is known for being a poor representation of New York. Carrie Bradshaw from SATC lives in Manhattan and there's almost no black New Yorkers to be seen! So to answer your question, I hope not! Darren Star tends to represent places fully inaccurately and Americans realize Emily in Paris is a very silly and privileged shitfest.
@Tony Scofield he's saying that because there are so many bad things to talk about America. America is literally a joke to some other countries. Especially during the era of Donald Trump
@@swordfishx987 There is no continent called "America." There is a continent called "North America" and one called "South America." They are not the same continent.
@@Mysterio6889 America is not a continent. Again, there is a continent called "North America" and one called "South America." Check out a map; it will be labeled just as I am telling you Also when people in English used the term "American" in everyday, informal language, there are referring to someone from the United States of America. Yes, someone from another country from either North or South American is technically an "American," but that is not what people mean in everyday, informal language.
They pick the best ones, and throw out the many negatives, some of the more of stereotypes they keep to make authentic etc. Never trust these videos. Why do people fall for this shit? It’s been going on for a decade at least. 🤷🏻♀️
I am American and live in France for 2 and a half years. For the most part this video was spot on. For French people who are amazed at how BIG the US, on the other hand I was amazed by the castles I visited in France. It was like living in history past and present. I actually like the way the French dress in France. Most people say that Paris is more casual but I was living in Angers and Tours and let me just say that I felt like I had to dress like I was going to a cabaret everyday on my way to the university. It was really a cool experience. French food is the best and I enjoyed the social aspect of everything. They hang out more and enjoy each other’s company more. I also love their way of having engaging conversations even on the most simplest topic. I don’t know why but I felt more French than American. The US is cool too though, I just prefer France and its people, j’admets que ça me convient plus.
Usually I write in French but this time I will commence in English, it's heartening to hear positive comments especially since we have been struggling here. I was fortunate enough to grow up living in different countries and being immersed in other cultures. One thing I do know is that every country has racial problems, including france. I love the French , and am learning the language. It hurt to hear that people think we are all gun toting idiots that have no restraint...sadly it is true in some respect. But there are many of us that do not...we are here, learning languages, home schooling, nature lovers, animal lovers, lovers of Peace and Love and the Oneness of all. Most of all I wish people would learn to understand one another, and love Thank you for your videos.
I thought you would have use "begin" instead of "commence"... Just a surprise for me, I didn't thought "commence" which is a french word was existing in english as well... just a question then... or maybe by reflexe, you mixed with french language. From a froggy, no bad intent.
I remember the first time I was around and talking to Americans, I was like wow, feels like I'm in a movie! I guess because the accent was strongly tied to Hollywood movies for me 😝
@@Sapphireia I can see that. When I went to England it felt so magical just because of all the books I've read and movies set there, and then hearing the accents all around you...
I would have saied a hollywood movie. That strucked me too in the US, people always reacted to things as people in the movies , for us american movies are like an alternate universe with an alternate humanity, it's really weird to see american people always being super afraid , super shocked , super moved, super emotional, crying over little things . I was constantly wondering if people were serious or if they were playing some act.
@@backintimealwyn5736 I had the same experience when I went in Florida. I was also shocked when they asked me if I was religious and when I said no, they were all shocked and tried to find why. They were very rude about it.
I was a little surprised to hear that people thought so well of us, given the past four years. I know that I do have a very high opinion of France and the French from my experiences traveling in France.
we have been hit pretty hard by the Bush administration ( because we voted against the Iraq war ) so what Trump was saying or doing was nothing compare to that
I was pleasantly surprised to find a generally charitable attitude toward us Americans by the French people interviewed here. Not so from Germans in general.
Well, the German were very pro-USA for a long time, but the Trump era was considered as a form of betrayal, because they didn't know if it was still possible to trust the US (military especially) any longer. German can be very tolerant, but once you lose they trust it's hard to regain it. While the French were almost anti-US for a long time (since WW2 it's complicated) so we were already used to see the US in a pretty poor way. So Trump and all the political chaos was almost consider normal ("It's the US, crazy things append" said some). But I would say we have learned to like you, with your qualities and your flaws, an honest friendship in a way.
Paris is one of the densest city in the world more than 2 times the population density of new York city. And has a population of 12 millions so I wouldn't quite say that it's comfy 😂. I prefer cities like Lyon or Bordeaux way more livable.
@@grimjowjaggerjak I lived in Lyon for a year and absolutely loved it. Such a great city with the right size for me. Paris is fun but not so fun to live in, based on my own personal comfort lol I also lived in NYC for 2 years and loved and hated it. I think super big cities are not for me lol
@@grimjowjaggerjak Incorrect. Paris has a population density of 2.1 million. Los Angeles (4 million) and New York (8.4 million) over take that by more than twice the population. In comparison, Paris would be considered smaller to someone from those cities.
@@aruytpadyugf First of all population density and population is a completely different thing, population density is the number of people living by square meters, and by that metric Paris has one of the highest population density in the world. Most cities in the US are really spread out that's why they aren't in the list of densest cities. Secondly Paris has only 2 millions inhabitants If you don't take into account the greater Paris area which consist of 10 millions inhabitants. ..
As a 27 year old, born and raised New Yorker who has been to Paris a few times, I’d say most of these comments were very accurate lol. America is a mixed bag but it has it’s pluses and minuses. It is certainly not a utopia but it can be a great place to live. I love France and actually appreciate that people dress well most of the time. Some people in the US look like they just hopped out of bed, which can be alarming 🛌 😂😂. Additionally, while Americans can be warm I don’t find New Yorkers warmer than Parisians. People here can be in their phone quite a lot and to themselves. I think big, expensive cities in general can be tough to socialize in but maybe i’m wrong.
I liked the Canadian woman who quickly pointed out she was not an American. Traveling in Europe, especially after the Iraq war started, I always said I was from Canada. Everyone loves Canadians!
If someone disliked you just because you said you're American, they're not worth speaking with. I visited France four times. It was never an issue to say I was American as long as I tried to speak in French.
As a Canadian myself I can say that the woman was so nice and gave out such a "Canadian" vibe if you know what I mean. However, I love Americans, just not the government. We both have similar cultures, such as being two multicultural countries, we should be proud of where we came from, and not be ashamed only because of the corrupt government.
@Tony Scofield did your wife leave you or smth? Because if that's the case then I wont deal with your unnecessary negativity. I didnt say that anyone else in the video weren't nice, you are just making stuff up yourself. Anyways, hope you get back with your wife soon.
my brother has been living in france for many years...going there in june from america and learning the french language is tough but cant wait to experience youre guys' beautiful country
I’m American, the comments from the lady with children and grandchildren here resonated with me. Otherwise, I’m glad to hear that “we’re” less loathed than I expected, lol.
One person commented on our beautiful National Parks. They posses breath taking views of this country. Mt. Rushmore and Pearl Harbor are National Memorial Parks but both are pretty surreal to actually see them.
J'aime la France et les français.I have said that France is the only place I would leave America for. As an American I understand your frustration with the USA. The government and many of the people frustrate me too. But there are many of us who want to be good neighbors and citizens of the world.
Also Trump won because of the electoral system, but not by a majority (by far) of the Americans. In fact, in the minds, a majority dislike trump political ideas. That explains USA didn' do twice the same mistake : more Americans have voted to be sure to not have FMY ;) .
If I could recommend, try venturing out of the U.S. cities. The national parks are beautiful like glacier national park. Yellowstone, acadia national. We have so many beautiful parks
FOR MANY OF US AMERICANS, WE GLORIFY FRANCE IN GENERAL...ITS LANGUAGE, ITS FOOD, ITS COOKING, ITS LIFE IN GENERAL...MY FATHER WAS CAPTIVATED BY THE WHOLE COUNTRY, A FARM BOY FROM TEXAS, HE SAID, THANK GOD HE SPOKE TEX-MEX SPANISH, WHICH HELPED HIM WITH THE FRENCH PEOPLE, DURING THE TUFF WAR TIME...VIVA LA FRANCE
I'm honestly pretty surprised by how kind the answers were. I expected to hear similar things like on 'Easy German' (Not to say we shouldn't be criticized or anything, quite the opposite) but the Parisians seemed nicer than the Berliners. Which I find strange in some ways. Maybe I just don't know much about either city or their people.
Germany has an obsession with the USA, it is engraved into their culture. My mother came here from Germany and her entire family are in Germany and they have a psychotic obsession with the USA. Did you know that its a front to pretend to dislike the US? Germany is also heavily financially dependent upon the USA. They honestly shouldn't bite the hand that feeds them. I lived in Germany, visited my family there, they're all nuts.
We have quite strict restrictions of movement in Paris and its region at the moment, that's why it's difficult to gather the whole team at the same place. But we all work on every video, whether behind or in front of the camera, or at home 🤓We also can't wait to be able to reunite the whole team!
@@LeMondedeCarla04 Wow! We never had restrictions like that here. And now, with the vaccines, things are getting back to normal. Sounds like it's still very hard in Europe. I hope they get more vaccines soon.

Interesting video and topics. I'm an American born and raised in Miami, lived there 27 years before moving to Spain for 6 years now. The US is massive, roughly the same size as Europe, and differs immensely from state to state and region to region, we have uniformity of language, but the culture varies greatly all around the states. The city I'm from, for example, is predominantly Latino. So it's hard to generalise, but I do love to see what opinions people around the world have of us. I remember when I first came to Europe I had vastly different expectations to what I've found. I do find America tends to be more serious and work/money oriented (than Spain at least), which is an American quality I dislike. Anyway, I've gotta say the opinion towards the US, at least in Spain, has changed a lot in the past 6 years, what with Trump out of office and all that. I wonder how it's changed since then in France as well.
I'll be the first to admit that we Americans are partially to blame for how we are viewed. Since the vast majority of us only speak English, when we travel abroad, we expect that English will be spoken to whichever city we visit. This is incredibly arrogant. We are very expressive and can be loud, but a lot of that is due to the fact that there is so much history in plain view that we simply do not have here. Europe is impressive with its architecture and art, style, etc. It was nice to hear the positive comments. Sadly, what they have learned about the US through the news media does not put us in a favorable light.
Me living in Frankfurt Germany all Europeans think Americans seem to be from New York, California or Florida lol or as if those places represent all of the U.S
As a US citizen, in Louisiana, I can say that Americans are vastly different depending on the region you are from. I could attempt to explain this, but as we know, our culture is easily offended these days, so I will refrain from saying so. Having visited Paris for 5 weeks 20 years ago, I remember as an American with limited French vocabulary, it was difficult for me. People were not always so kind if I attempted to speak French with them. This was not always the case, though, and I did have some nice interactions while there. Our culture here is generally laid back and friendly. We like small talk here. A more meaningful relationship is more difficult, as with everywhere, and takes time to develop. I find we as a society are more sexually free here, which is not a good thing I would say. I get the impression that the French are generally more moral, or perhaps more conservative in this sense. My ancestors came to America in the mid-1800's from Marseille. I hope to go back to France, someday, possibly to retire, back to my roots, to where my people are from.
Can a native french speaker tell me, the lady at 6:33 was very clear and easy to understand. Does she have a distinguished accent to you or is she simply speaking with a parisian accent but just very clear and pronounced?
Yes! I think that the interesting thing about her speech is that she speaks a very standard or “textbook” French where she doesn’t use just “pas” for the negative phrases but “ne...pas”, which is very formal and also refreshing to hear since the majority of Francophone speakers, or French speakers, are very relaxed at times with their grammar and omit the ‘“ne” in a very familiar manner. Remember, no two French speakers have the exact same accent 😊.
In my opinion, "parisian accent" is not really a thing (there was a specific parisian accent before, the "titi" accent, but it has almost disappeared). As said above, she is speaking a standard and a bit formal French. I feel like she is speaking how a teacher would
Thanks everyone! As an anglophone learning French for 4 years now the biggest struggle I have is understanding "normal" fast spoken French. I would say she is talking about a somewhat complex topic yet I could understand almost all of it and that was very motivating. Yet when I listen to this sentence at 2:41 spoken by the guy on the left, I understood nothing of that sentence without the subtitles, and this is very demotivating as I've studied for a long time. Also before when he says "c'est vrai que" and "je suis deja allé à New York."

Both of you are very lucky! Hahah. France looks absolutely beautiful and I truly hope I’m able to visit one day! Y’all have a blessed day! And I want to visit Lyon more than I do Paris! The architecture is second to none in my opinion.
I’m from Southern California and I would say we are very laid back and very friendly. I went to Paris recently and the people are not so nice, especially the taxi drivers. But that was just a first impression. I know French people are lovely and kind.
The best way to avoid Stéréotypes is to visit a country ! our common history ( +250 years ) is more than positive, we never fight each other ( few countrys in the world don t fight with French ) we ever been allied, politics and mainstreams are DOGS, we are Brothers by blood : LIBERTY is our common line.
How disrespectful towards the 2 MILLION dead French citizens of WW1 and WW2. Saying this, you completely disregard the sacrifice of all these people. Winning those wars were the result of a multi countries effort and your country intervened last. They really teach you the disney version of events over there!
Lol. A large portion of the French army fought FOR the Germans in ww2. Counter productive wouldn't you say? But it was meant to be a broad statement not to disregard any allied sacrifes during either conflict.
The American,British, Canadian, and free French and polish forces liberated Western Europe completely from the wrought iron grip of Nazi Germany. There's no doubt about it. French partisans did a whole lot of good stuff too. Derailing trains, hiding weapons, etc.
Inequality ? What? Racial tension is one thing but any American from any part of the country has the same opportunities to succeed regardless of their origins. It only depends on the individuals desire to apply themselves.
FYI In 2020 only 8.6 % of the population did not have health insurance at any point during the year. Americans ARE honest...and vocal. So just because we complain (and protest is essential to democracy) doesn't mean the problem characterizes the American experiance. Most towns and suburbs are so safe I don't even lock my door. But SHH ...don't tell anybody!

Just so you know. We might appear friendly and nice, but we won’t let you enter our world up close. We’re like peaches. Fuzzy and sweet on the outside and hard and hollow on the inside. Sorry! The US is a very individualistic society and not so personable ☹️ Sharing this because many international people get disappointed because of this. Better to come clean now 🙂
An excellent video. It seemed sincere to me. I especially appreciated the woman who was bold enough to speak about American politics. I found that the French prefer not to speak about foreign politics with a foreigner. So it was refreshing to hear at least one person’s opinion.
@Antek Policmajster I wouldn't speak of politics with an American, if it's not my friend. I've known people for which it was a sensible debate, and when I arrive with my French view, it can be a very hot topic. Once, I've spoken of Socialism, because I didn't know that in the US it was a synonym of Communism, and they were so shocked. For me, it was just a conversation, but for some people I've known the debate Democrat/republican, it's like they're playing their life. I know it's not everyone, but when you have a lot of cultural difference, you have to be cautious I think.
French (like many latins countries) are ALOT into politics comparing to many other people (outside Latins) BUT it's mostly about internal affairs, and when it's about foreign affairs, they prefer to speak about the french position, the place of France in the world (nostalgy of a "certain" France or as said De Gaulle : "une certaine idée de la France" ) :) Then I was a bit surprised about your comment there. I have lived more than 4 years out of France, and French is seen as very political people, always arguing, striking, voting averagely more than many countries (Maybe because of the price of the blood, french people paid to obtain and maintain its freedom, always averagely "bloodier" than in most countries... French History is a long path of wars, fights, death, destruction, annihilation and as Pegasus made with several rebirth).
@@jpc7118 I think you misunderstood me. As an American tourist in France (in 2019), I felt almost compelled to apologize for the disgraceful behavior of our former President when he was in Europe. I did speak in French with those persons who did not speak English . Most everyone chose not to comment on his behavior. Perhaps they were being polite or perhaps they didn’t care about American politics. One man did tell me that Obama and his family had been in Avignon the month before. His comments were not related to the conversation I wanted to have about Trump, so I politely dropped it.
@@petitlapin41 No problem... Trump was a disgrace for world, not only for USA lol He has been elected not because of Americans but because of american election system... I think I had read that Hillary Clinton are more than 4 milliions more votes than Trump but the system of great electors has cheated the democracy ... In France, we may have doubtful choice sometimes, but surely not against the democratic vote... The winner in France is the one which has always the majority of the votes... It's not the first time American system has elected the one which has the less the votes... GWB first election (and it was even more a problem than Trump IMHO)...

For other learners, this is how I use Easy French to really help with comprehension:

I get the impression that Americans view and glorify Paris the way some French people view and glorify New York. Both are smaller parts of a whole and aren’t fully representative of each country but often define the whole country to outsiders.
Except that France is smaller than the entire state of Texas. So the US is necessarily more culturally diverse!
@@phylliswilliams9800
It’s the case.
@@phylliswilliams9800 Well, France has German, catalan, basque, breton, dutch, and italian speaking regions.
Possibly - as long as their vision of France goes beyond "Emily in Paris" with all its foolish stereotypes.
I'm from the West Coast, and yes, L.A. is far too big! When I visited Paris, it felt very comfortably sized for a major city.
Paris is one of the densest city in the world more than 2 times the population density of new York city.
And has a population of 12 millions so I wouldn't quite say that it's comfy 😂. I prefer cities like Lyon or Bordeaux way more livable.

Secondly Paris has only 2 millions inhabitants If you don't take into account the greater Paris area which consist of 10 millions inhabitants. ..

I already said that before but the French do not hate Americans. We hate everyone including ourselves. 😂

Americans are also much more work and money oriented than the French!
How would you say the opinion has changed?
I'll be the first to admit that we Americans are partially to blame for how we are viewed. Since the vast majority of us only speak English, when we travel abroad, we expect that English will be spoken to whichever city we visit. This is incredibly arrogant. We are very expressive and can be loud, but a lot of that is due to the fact that there is so much history in plain view that we simply do not have here. Europe is impressive with its architecture and art, style, etc. It was nice to hear the positive comments. Sadly, what they have learned about the US through the news media does not put us in a favorable light.
Great translation!

This is clearly a parisian accent, a little distinguished but not too much. She speaks quietly.
She speaks slowly compared to the others

As an American from the Northeast. I think about how we saved France twice and they save us too.
They saved our country with the rebellion. But we saved them twice from the Germans.
Say that to petain

FYI In 2020 only 8.6 % of the population did not have health insurance at any point during the year. Americans ARE honest...and vocal. So just because we complain (and protest is essential to democracy) doesn't mean the problem characterizes the American experiance. Most towns and suburbs are so safe I don't even lock my door. But SHH ...don't tell anybody!

when asking the french for directions they were very helpful and nice. They will give you looks if you are "under dressed" and i was laughed at by a group of men smoking in a car cause im overweight. I feel as though the people in Paris were similar to people in America but arent as afraid to make fun of you. They did have the best orange juice ive ever had though. 7/10 would go again. I dont think europeans like americans in general tho.
So sorry you had this experience of people making fun of you 😯 That seems extremely rude

Just so you know. We might appear friendly and nice, but we won’t let you enter our world up close. We’re like peaches. Fuzzy and sweet on the outside and hard and hollow on the inside. Sorry! The US is a very individualistic society and not so personable ☹️
Sharing this because many international people get disappointed because of this. Better to come clean now 🙂
That's alright, we're coconuts, hard as shit on the outside and still, it'll take you months to reach the core. We understand
I agree!
Bush did the irakish affair so well leaded and organised ;) :D but after invading Iraq, he has destabilised all the middle east, and all, I say, all the islamists terrorists attack in Europe are the consequence of GWB administrtaion move in Iraq... Syria and Lebanon mess come from there too, the israelian colons arrogance come also from there...
