How wonderful is it that I have memories of singing this in the crowd with my father, always wanting to go back to that moment and never wanting to leave. I miss my father, and I miss Tom Petty, and dear god I miss the concerts with both of them.
@@EricDavis-iw7hj aside from eminem, Ive never felt an emotional connection with any artist. But the day Tom died, i truly felt a piece of me go with him. What a legend of a human being.
I came home the night my son was born. 3am. Couldn’t sleep. Put RUclips on this came on as the first song. We were struggling for a name. My grandfather was Thomas Henry, after hearing this I knew Tom was the way to go. Now 10 months old, I’m hoping little Tom will learn the significance of his name.
I heard this song as I was being released from jail ... I took it as an omen to do better things with my life, anytime I feel down I listen to this performance... to remind me I have survived harder situations in my life. Thank you Mr. Petty!😊😊
Enjoy this newfound freedom, and above all never do anything that could take this freedom away, freedom is the light at the end of the tunnel, it brings everything in life, and now go far away, and live a beautiful life🕊️✨
I have goosebumps every time I watch this video and Tom sings with the crowd... Indeed, this is the musical magic, which he used to talk about. Now, since he's passed away it gives me even more goosebumps, since I imagine him flying over his worries... Thank you for magic, Tom.
The crowd participation here absolutely took this moment supernova next-level. I have listened to this specific version well over 100 x's over the years. Without fail - every single time... It makes my hair stand on end and gives me crazy goosebumps.
"Sing it out baby!" ... you really cant express through words what this guy did for music. He showed how its about love, connection and for him most importantly...simplicity.
Isn't there something magical about a crowd singing a song? What a wonderfully haunting rendition. I wish I got to see Petty before he went and flew away from us.
I saw Mr. Petty at least 12 times in my life. A very good show indeed and he interacted with us every time, as he does here. He was a blessing to music and an overall great person. RIP TOM!
Tom, Your music and lyrics, to singalong for all of us lives on, though you have transitioned you are still with us. Dr. Darryl Luke Pokea,, Musician, Psychologist
One of my favorite versions of any song, EVER!~!~ Well some say life will beat you down Break your heart, steal your crown So I've started out for God knows where I guess I'll know when I get there
I think you are younger than me, but they actually classified Tom and the Heartbreakers, as “new wave”, along with Cars. But, I agree that he was and will always be a treasure for all of us that love real music! I also loved his role in the Traveling Wilburys.
Danke Tom.... Für mich der Inbegriff der richtig guten alten Gitarren-Bass-Schlagzeug-Musik......und in diesem Fall sogar mit Klavier :)) Bleib noch ein bisserl Tom....ist echt schön, Dir zu lauschen...
I'd love to know how many times I've viewed this video. This is the definitive version of this song to me, the studio version is great don't get me wrong, but it just doesn't compare.
It was a joy seeing you play this song at Kaaboo. Every awful breakup or fight with depression I had in college was made better when I found you and when I found this song. Fly on, Tom.
Your music saved my life.....been in a very bad spot the last few weeks and i seriously felt my life was falling apart but just listening to your music....alot of the lyrics made me look at this entire situation differently. Im still walking this earth because of this song right here....thanks Tom
I remember hearing Tom say something to the effect of not being an author of these songs, but a medium for them to flow through. That they were supposed to exist somehow and that he was just trying his best not to mess that up. I feel the same way when I listen to this music.
I believe that somewhere in the world, there are still people who feel fantastic and indescribable emotions when they listen to this masterpiece.
Right here brother
I do 🥲🙈
I have to learn how to fly now that I’m alone. 😢
How wonderful is it that I have memories of singing this in the crowd with my father, always wanting to go back to that moment and never wanting to leave. I miss my father, and I miss Tom Petty, and dear god I miss the concerts with both of them.
Me
This is a beautiful rendition of the song, better than the studio version. Right tempo, right instrumentation... Just right.
I miss Mike's slide solo.
I agree. The interaction with audience makes the song fly a little higher .He could work a crowd.
@Justin Przybylski indeed
Agreed
Agree in full. And the correct ambience I think. (Swedish. Might be the wrong Word)
I can't imagine growing up in the 90s without Tom Petty
A master at his craft. Now he's learning to fly with the angels.... you earned your wings. Rest in peace Tom.
im literally crying as im singing this, im miss him so much went to so many of his concerts

My favorite.
This one's for my memorial service. Says it all.
I'm not a big fan of audiences participating, but this was done perfectly he was a true musical genius@@@!@ GODSPEED RIP ❤️
How he riffs along with the audience is pure magic. RIP Tom.
Truly one of a kind. Man, ill miss him.
"Sing it out baby!" ... you really cant express through words what this guy did for music. He showed how its about love, connection and for him most importantly...simplicity.

A lot of musicians have passed away lately, but Tom Petty is missed the most...
forever sad😢
Amazing version of this song. True legend.
I've Cried so many times 😭
Listening to this.
I feel Tom's pain and he feels ours.
The call and answer with the audience is biblical.
I feel the same way!
This video gets me emotional everytime. Tom found his wings RIP. He left us this for us to find ours now.
Coming down is the hardest thing, Every time..
Simply fantastic. Beautiful rendition of one of my all-time favorite songs. F'cking love Tom Petty. A true original.
the empty acoustic vibe of this version of the song gives it a quality that not even the legendary studio version of the song can live up to.
This song hit me hard...RIP Tom.. we will miss you badly...
Tom petty, you got your wings.... Thank you for all you have given to this world!
Tom got his wings. May he soar in peace.
"Learning to fly over my troubles" - so inspirational...
one of the most spectacular sing-a-longs of all time .
performed like a worshipsong. Great.
Tom, Your music and lyrics, to singalong for all of us lives on, though you have transitioned you are still with us. Dr. Darryl Luke Pokea,, Musician, Psychologist

Magical and emotional performance... ✨
We love you Tom Petty and we always will 💙🌌
This one of the best live recordings of all time. They were at the height. I once was 10 feet from him in Tampa. What a show. Love you Tom
This was like the church of Tom Petty. Loved every second.
Miss this man. Forget the Beatles. This guy wrote songs we can identify with
When people of many generations sing your thoughts of the time......your forever immortal.Thank you Tom.
Ill be sharing yer music with my kids like my parents did.
Long live Tom Petty!
This Video has not be viewed enough. Such a brilliant song
I miss Tom Petty.
This makes me cry especially when the crowd sing the chorus back. Love Tom Petty.
2006 was the best year for Tom Petty and the heartbreakers in the 21st century
He truly learned to fly, all the way home, where he now knows peace.
RIP What a beautiful song
RIP, Tom. Many of us are crushed by your passing.
RIP Tom Petty. I am so lucky to have seen you in person once.
"the good old times may not return" thanks so much for the memories tom, r.i.p.
Out of all the bands I wish I could've seen live Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers was always on top.
Ive seen Jackson Browne cover this song as a tribute and he even looks like he is trying hard to hold it together. Miss you Tom.
Petty is my favorite "classic rock" artist. Great songwriter. Great melodies in his songs. And just a cool, badass attitude.
I think you are younger than me, but they actually classified Tom and the Heartbreakers, as “new wave”, along with Cars. But, I agree that he was and will always be a treasure for all of us that love real music! I also loved his role in the Traveling Wilburys.
Que gran legado musical nos ha dejado Tom Petty
I can be in the worse mood I put this on and smile and cry a little. 37 year old grown man.
If this doesn’t give you goosebumps, check your pulse.
RIP Tom Petty. Learn to fly to that big band in the sky.
Magnificent ❤ 🕊 Rest in Peace Brother. Your music lives forever!
Tears in my eyes ... so beautiful.
What a great audience
Rest in Peace Tom..you are a legend..pure talent
The more you listen to these lyrics, the more there is to think about. This song moves out in every direction.
Danke Tom....
Für mich der Inbegriff der richtig guten alten Gitarren-Bass-Schlagzeug-Musik......und in diesem Fall sogar mit Klavier :))
Bleib noch ein bisserl Tom....ist echt schön, Dir zu lauschen...
Why does this bring a tear...man oh man.
The good old days may not return.
Thank you Tom! For the most important days of my childhood.
I'd love to know how many times I've viewed this video. This is the definitive version of this song to me, the studio version is great don't get me wrong, but it just doesn't compare.
The finest rendition of this song there has been. You can see towards the end Stevie Nicks getting emotional. It's just so incredibly beautiful.
Tom wrote masterpieces into the '90's (and arguably beyond). Though she started with much promise, Stevie did not.
I CANT WAIT TO SEE HIM IN 10 DAYS!!!!!!
How was it?
what an Artist and what a Performance...
a true genius
It was a joy seeing you play this song at Kaaboo. Every awful breakup or fight with depression I had in college was made better when I found you and when I found this song. Fly on, Tom.
Learning to Fly isn’t his best song, but it’s probably he’s best live song. Amazing.
Your music saved my life.....been in a very bad spot the last few weeks and i seriously felt my life was falling apart but just listening to your music....alot of the lyrics made me look at this entire situation differently. Im still walking this earth because of this song right here....thanks Tom
Thank you for the all the music. Rest in peace Tom.
Just A-Mazing....They don't make them like this anymore. What an incredible talent...
Seeing TB&THB live is the best high you can get, no drug can match the pure joy of this. I
This really is a fantastic version of a great song. The crowd is really into it, and I would have loved to have been there!
I forget sometimes. But, that guy means more to me than I give him credit for. He’s my base in music…
And also my high…
Tom now has wings and has learned to fly. He will never come down.... He will never again feel the hardest things.
My 17 yr old son says this is a song that will be loved and played for hundreds of years, like Bach and Mozart, a classic great piece.
I finally think Tom Petty has reached his peak of success......Simply the Best!
How could you give this a thumbs down?
RIP, Tom. You will be missed. Tell Roy & George "hi" for us.
this is fantastic
I could listen to a 20 minute version of this!!
Thank you for making this video available. Great show, Tom Petty is very underrated, he made great songs.
Two of my favorite artists Tom Petty and Stevie Nicks
A beautiful rendition by a beautiful soul. Rest in peace.
I’m just learning to fly with my new life. Sober single dad life is tough but gonna be worthwhile.
Goodbye Tom, I'm glad you missed all of this.
Music is the most important part of my life, and Tom is the better part of that. I miss you Tom, more that you can imagine.
It is, young man, it is. She is an honorary Heartbreaker and sings several songs with Tom including Wont Back Down.
Good old days may not return what a prediction 2020 2021 .....,, love this song ❤️
another piece of my life is gone. R.I.P.
Einfach nur Weltklasse…..!🥰
Such a beautiful version of this song ! RIP Tom Petty you rocked the world and will never be forgotten !!!😢🎸🎙🕯
Very true
I remember hearing Tom say something to the effect of not being an author of these songs, but a medium for them to flow through. That they were supposed to exist somehow and that he was just trying his best not to mess that up. I feel the same way when I listen to this music.
I lived two blocks from Dub's in Gainesville when they played there. Met Tom earlier down on University. He played my guitar at a college bar.
Really wanted to see Tom live one day. Guess that day will never come. RIP Tom, we'll miss you.
"The sky has never been so bright as now." GRACIAS Tom Perry. Blessings!
I always love when the crowd sings along.
love Steve Nicks in the Background
