- Yes I know it's a film camera.. .but I have recently become interested in fixing my old Canon 630. I mostly want to re-learn how to shoot on film. I also want to be able to pick up and shoot with the very first SLR that I learned to shoot with. I found a process for fixing the battery drain and pinpointed the problem as being connected to the LCD screen's faulty backlight.

Thanks very much for the video I’ve just done this on my EOS 600. Just a little tip for others planning to do this, don’t completely undo the two screws holding the door latch in place, just loosen them and the front plate will still lift off. This was recommended for the command dial repair on the EOS 5/A2 which I also undertook with partial success (indent ball shot off across the room!).
Pro tip, did that and avoided everything shooting out 🙏🏽
Just ran this and it worked on a 620- thank you! Labeling on the PCB was a bit different but the black and white wires were run in exactly the same manner. Everything power back on... we'll have to see if the battery stays intact, though. Thanks!
Thanks! I got a 620 from the thrift store for an absolute bargain but it turned out that it was killing the battery too.
Weird thing was the EL display didn't work at all, so I figured they'd performed this too.
I was correct, but they'd left the cut wires exposed and sitting right next to the terminals so they were shorting out still!
Hey! I have two 630 bodies with this very same issue. I appreciate your video! You sound like you might be reading from something. Do you have a link to it? Thank you so much!
Top Job
Just did this fix, I noticed that the film door now needs the button above the latch depressed before it will close. I can't remember if this was the case prior to taking apart the mechanism. Were you able to figure this out?
I have eos50 film camera, and it started to not work when you put a lense on. It just shuts down. If you have any ideas on how to fix it, please tell me
I’ve got a canon EOS 650 but the wiring is different. I’m not sure how to fix mine.
The EOS 650 shouldn't have this problem. At least from what I've read this only occurs with 620 and 630/600 bodies.
But if your battery is draining as well there should be a video or subreddit with people that have the same problem.s
