- Playing at the Hoggit server which is a PvE. Had Arlios in the RIO seat who did a wonderful job. Colt joined us later on.
The server does have a tag running which puts a little dot under the target at a certain range to make it easier to spot things which is fine since we're fighting AI anyway.

Lol, well burner when i had to but i stayed out of it 95% of the time
I don't consider dot labels as cheating anymore. The spotting is modelled so badly in this game, the dot labels only compensate that you have such a bad view vs. what you have in a real life situation. I only wish you could turn them all color neutral and don't see them through hard objects. Oh and only on aircraft (no missiles).
Worse for those of us who don’t have head tracking or VR and therefore have a hard time with SA and keeping eyes on the bad guy when the furball gets chaotic.
It's sad that 4 years later this is still a major problem. I love DCS but this is probably the most frustrating thing in the game.
@@Nanobot1514 Yeah I can't see shit at 3440x1440p Ultrawide on a 34" screen. Sometimes I can see aircraft far off If they're above me with clear sky, but most of the time I need to lock them on radar first to see where they are. In a furball it's not so bad but thats really close range. Basically gotta be within 10nm or less to have a chance to spot

I'm a simple man. I see a new Ralfidude video, I click on it, hit like and then watch the video.
Personally, I enjoy watching DCS videos with labels more than without them. Between my shit eye sight, and youtube's shitty quality at times, it makes it much easier to follow whats going on when I can actually see the damn enemy/friendly aircrafts and missiles

Its really entertaining for me to watch you guys work together. Getting better as you get through each fight. Usually i don't like long DCS video's. Unless there pre-release and training videos.

@@adamheckl5477 well 6es but i typically dont publish it for an hour after uploading and it gives it enough time to process the higher resolution. The longer videos take much longer.

you dont have to flip acm switch to use acm modes, and use PAL mode it goes out to like 15nm, also f14 RWR is REALLY REALLY REALLY sensitive, you pick up almost every radar signal pointed at you from faaaar away
the ACM switch reduces the time to launch for a missile, the phoenix launches after a 3 second trigger hold, having the ACM switch ready lets the pilot hold it for only 1.

@@Arlios only downside to using it is that Phoenix's go pitbull as they fall off the rail thereby triggering a launch warning to the target very early, causing them to go defensive very early and is significantly reducing the chance of the Phoenix killing them.
@@moshoyoko2480 Which is why I had the trigger on the long shots, at any point ralfi engaged anything in WVR I would gave him the trigger unless he wanted me to shoot.

Looks great! I'd love to see a video with control inputs on (rctrl-enter) during landings. It would help me I think!
Ehh, it kinda gets in the way and makes the footage look ugly. Just keep practicing your landings and it will click in at some point, it's all about the hours you put into it.
I think these marker settings are acceptable for DCS, really this should be the normal level of spotability (if that is a word...) of aircraft in the game, as it is they are all but invisible unless you already know where to look to spot them...

Nah, that's fine, because you know the base height and field will be separated by at least 2k ft. We dove down into the soup without knowing what kind of mountainous terrain was below us or what the ground altitude was. For all we knew, the ground was still IN the soup...

so does having the RIO in the tomcat really make it a more effective fighter vs, say, single seat hornet with its more modern radar?
Different eras, different systems. I have less to do in the TOmcat as the pilot, but it's not exactly hard to manipulate the radar while flying. It's something you get used to I guess.

Been playing GaW always without labels...
You never noticed the dot under the planes? Unless you have your tags off by default. That might be it. Go there next time and when you're close to a bandit, within 5 miles, just hit shift+F10 and see.

@@slammerf16 You were probably looking at the ACM cover switch, it was up for one of the landings but the master arm is off on the right.
How would you recommend getting started in DCS?
buy the FC3 pack and fly those, there are ground attackers aswell as air superiority fighters and you can learn BVR-combat turnfights and how to deal with t55s or SA-8s etc

So how is comms accomplished with RIO? Do you have to have SRS and select a channel or is there a built in system for that?
So, the easiest way is how we did it, we have our own discord channel and we just talk there. But if you are in a MP server and have a random guy join, then you can always just join that server's discord. Hoggit has one, 104th has one, etc and so forth.
If you want a more advanced experience then you can use SRS. In the controls page in DCS for the 14 there is a ICS switch you can map which will automatically work in SRS. You don't need to map anything in SRS as they made it work with SRS right out of the gate. So map that button within DCS and when you connect to the SRS server, you just transmit using that ICS button. No need to tune to a frequency, you are both in the same plane, there is no frequency for intercom.

For the fun of it. Plus we decided earlier that he had shoot priority and if i wanted to take it i would have to verbally override him. Let him have some fun since he's doing all the RIO work in the back. A sense of accomplishment, haha.

I have never understood the f14 radar, how does the display work? I just see tanks or objects on ground. Can anyone help me understand how the display works and what it shows
You should read the manual, it's all explained there with pretty pictures.

Can someone explain what the warning sounds are for?
MrJEZBO lock on and missile warnings. The first tone you hear tells them that an enemy radar is tracking them. Second tone let’s them know enemy has a lock. Third tone lets them know a missile has been fired at them.

I love how this went from early access beta to dcs world beta when it was suppose to be full release on march 13th.
Open Beta is bascially the release chain these days. almost every multiplayers server uses it because all aircraft show up there.
Also, HB said early access would be publicly available march 13th. Not sure what the problem is.
