On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.
If you enjoy war thunder or Microsoft flight simulator 2020 or even dogfighting in Battlefield 2042, consider getting yourself into Digital Combat Simulator by Eagle Dynamics, the Combat side of Aviation with the BVR and Dogfights really provides a different and interesting perspective on aviation. You can fly all kinds of combat aircraft including the F-16, F-15, F-14, JF-17, Su-27, Mig-29, Mirage and the F-18 Hornet along with many other aircraft and helicopters like the Ka-50 and Mi-8.

In fact, for the Flanker, the F-14 is a small fish. To confront the F-14, the capabilities of the MiG-23 Flogger and MiG-25 Foxbat were enough. But on the F-15, which turned out to be an excellent fighter at that time, the "teeth" of the Flogger were no longer enough. Therefore, the Flanker was created as a worthy answer to the F-15. Anything is possible in DCS.

You only need to do that if you want to fly one-circle, the same way you fly the Flanker or Fulcrum. If you play to the Tomcat's strengths and fly 2-circle the Tomcat would win often, especially in prolonged fights.

Since I've thought about it, you really don't shoot an enemy plane apart with the gun. You never really get "gun kills" unless it's a pilot, engine, or flight controls hit or maybe vertical stabs. You only have to hit a wing or elevator enough times to structurally weaken it and since most of the time they're pulling hard maneuvers the wings are already at the limit almost all those kills where a wing comes off are from the aircraft maneuvering under high G.
So if it's a Flanker, F-18, or F-16 take as many potshots of opportunity as possible because if one or two lucky shells hit a spar the next Cobra or 9-G turn they try to pull they're gonna rip their own wings off.

I'm not so sure about the flaps down issue. I was listening to old Tomcat guys on either the Tomcast podcast or The Fighter Pilot podcast talk about how effective the tomcat was with flaps down. He didn't seem to have a problem using them.

The Tomcat is a truly impressive airframe when it's not being maintained constantly. It's such a shame variable wings are just not worth the investment because they just capture that "too cool for school" vibe.

8:53 - GS: "If you're going to survive the dogfight you're going to have to fight the best that the aircraft can fight. Right?"
Yeah, and you're going to have to blindfold, gag, and tie Jester in his seat to keep him from punching out early.

F-14's kick butt, we didn't care if the pilot stressed the aircraft, as long as he survived and completed the mission. Just some extra work, stress test and NDI's. A regular day in aircraft maintenance. VF-154 and VF-21 aboard the mighty USS Independence. Miss those days!

I'd like to see some videos of you vs a Tomcat. Like you fly an Eagle or a Flanker or a Fulcrum against one; see if you have the guts to pull the trigger on your favorite plane. [Insert dark villain laugh]
