  • So, you want to make comics, but where do you start? Well, you need to learn the craft and to do this you need to start with writing a four page comic. There is a fine line between how to write a bad comic and how to write a great comic. if you want to run a marathon, you don't just get up on the day of the event and run the 26.2 miles with no prep...no training. Writing comics is the same. If you want to make comics you need to learn the craft and you begin this marathon comic journey with small four page comic strips...its where all the big British names started...Alan Moore &Grant Morrision to name but a couple and they all cut their comic teeth at 2000AD writing future shocks. So in this video, i am going to break down what you need to write a killer four page comic, so once you have learned this you can go out there and write a great comic that is 200 pages long!
    Remember…IF I CAN MAKE COMICS...ANYONE CAN!

    This is one the best pieces of comic advice I've ever gotten!
    It's like someone finally explained pacing in a way I understood!
    This made me go from pulling out my hair, to having a finished outline of my first 3 comic issues!
    Thank you!!

    I agree, as long as it can become a full comic. You can then pitch those 4 or 5 pages, but eventually a publisher will want to see a full issue. Besides Future Shocks, what others accept 4 page stories?

    • @MattGarveyComics
      @MattGarveyComics  3 года назад +5

      Hey buddy,
      Thanks so much watching!
      The concept of the 4 pager is purely suggested to help those creators who have never written a comic before.
      it teaches structure and will ultimately help them plot and write longer stories.
      Because I see a lot of new comics and scripts from writers who have pacing and second act issues.
      The 4page structure once mastered wil help people overall become better writers.
      PLUS most writers who do break into the big two don’t start with short back up stories, So even though you cant pitch 4pagers to the big two, having some decent ones in your body of work will show an editor you can crush them and is only going to impress them while strengthening your appeal for them to hire you. 😜

      My pleasure, buddy.
      Hope it helps!
      ISBN I’d say when you are staring out you don’t really need them…unless you are working with a publisher then I’d let them sort that out! 😜
      Barcodes on the other hand are incredibly useful or comic shops.
      I have started using them in the last couple of years.
      I’ll be covering where to get them and how to use them in follow up videos 😜

    Hello Matt. Can I or would you recommend selling 4 or even 10 page comics at comic cons?

    • @MattGarveyComics
      @MattGarveyComics  Год назад

      Don’t see why not, buddy. I think it’s gonna come down to price snd would YOU buy a 4 or 10 page comic? Is so then they’ll be an audience for it somewhere you just gotta find it. Or might be worth waiting until you’ve got a 4 or 5 short comics, then make an anthology and sell those…you only need 20 or 24 pages in total and you’re away 👍
