Very good tips there. I use a similar method when writing my scripts by breaking down each issue into several scenes before I start writing, and that really helps to ensure a smoother pacing throughout

Yo man, I wanted to write comics but I don't know how to write villains. Could I send you a villain character sheet I made, to see if it's good or not.

Matt, if you are in a building and going between different rooms, would each room be considered a scene, or would you group all those different locations as being the same scene?

    • @MattGarveyComics
      @MattGarveyComics  Год назад

      Really good question, matey.
      In fact I love it.
It all comes down to the structure.
Are what’s happening in those rooms connected or are they separate “scenes” can you cut back and forth between both rooms to create tension or anything that helps push the narrative forward?
For example you could have a cop and his boss talking in one room about catching a thief and the thief breaking into a safe in the very next room!
Both are separate, but connected…especially if thief is trying not to be heard by the cops and ends with them busting into the room and his gone!
So what ima saying is connect them IF there is a reason to do so. Everything in your story needs to be well paced, not rushed and done for a reason that pushes the narrative forward not just because it’s cool or is an after thought to connect the plot 👍

Just want to say thanks for all your videos. Really helping me piece together my ideas. I think we've all got an epic which we'd like to write, but I get that it's better to start small. I've small stories set in the same universe as my epic, what do you think of building up my universe through smaller one shots, then into the epic if I make it?
I'm writing this with a child on my chest, so apologies if it's unclear.

      Ha…
I know that feeling buddy…I got a little one too! So no shade thrown for typos 🤪
Thanks for the nice message too, it’s much appreciated.
There’s nothing say you have to start small but I would really recommend it even if it for just writing practice…you don’t have to get them made…
You just learn so much abs especially if you’ve got an epic in you…nothing worse then getting wrong and blowing your bank roll and it’s the first and only comic you get to make!
Reach out if you need anything 👍

@@MattGarveyComics amazing, thanks. Yeah I'm starting small to hopefully get to that epic stage.
Again great videos, honestly for me, best I've found on YT. Look forward to watching more and to pick up a few of your comics.

@@MattGarveyComics one last thing, what process do you use to break down a scene?
I don't think you went over how you converted the comic / script into that scene / page breakdown.
