    Nice comparison. Just a small clarification, I think GF9 promised pdfs of Tanks cards for tanks not in the original game, not actual cards in the expansions.

    Thanks for the comparison video didn’t even know about the tanks or world of tanks game. I bought a flames of war set last year and feel those models were extremely easy to put together and you could customize them a lot if you wanted to but didn’t have to. I guess if you don’t like building models it’s a plus And you can just get right to the game. As a world of tanks player for several years definitely interested in a tank only combat game On table top and it may be a way to get friends of mine into table top gaming because of the simplicity. Thanks again for the review

      No problem. There are several tank skirmish games for tabletop, but so far I think this is one of the better ones. It roll get better as they release more vehicles for it as well. I also don't see too much of an issue combining the old and new stuff. While the stats are slightly different, I think they are close enough where combining them should work without any real issues. That gives you access to a bunch of existing Tanks vehicles that might be on discount or clearance now too since that game is pretty much replaced by this one and I believe it is discontinued.

    Thanks for the informative video. I prefer to build my own models, so the "old" tanks seem better.
    It seems like using the new rules / cards whilst using the old models and tokens is a good compromise.

    • @Trueflights
      @Trueflights  3 года назад

      I agree. The only downside is that all the old models will come with the old cards and starts. You would have to buy the new models to get the new cards.

    Great video. Definitely prefer the pre-built WoT miniatures. Not into the hobby side and just want to get the game to the table to play (although I might throw a quick camo job to differentiate identical models).

    • @Trueflights
      @Trueflights  2 года назад +1

      I'm with you on the pre-built model side. I hated assembling the old tanks. It would be nice though if they still came with a small sprue of accessories though so you could customize multiple of the same tank to differentiate them a bit. Thankfully I have a bunch of leftover bits from the old game to do that.
      They are still going strong with the World of Tanks game. Wave 6 is due to come out here soon. Keep an eye on the channel for previews when we get a bit closer.

    Can we mix the tow games, are the sherman from Tanks and the one from WoT have the same stats for exemple? I see that the Tanks have 4 crew and WoT have 5, is there any card crew we can ad to the tanks?

    • @Trueflights
      @Trueflights  3 года назад

      I don't see any reason why you couldn't mix them. The stats are slightly different on some things between the two games though. Maybe a point here or there or a crew member that is different. They are different for each tank as the number of crew and things can vary. For instance the Sherman from the old games starter is a late war variant while the one from the WoT starter is the original variant. The stats will definitely be different somewhere on those as they are different tanks. Other ones that have the same variants available in both game still may have slight differences though. WoT also added things like class abilities and special rules to tanks that weren't in the old game (stay tuned to the channel for the Wave 1 Tank expansions for more on that). You can easily use the weight class rules on the old tanks, but the special abilities might be a little more tricky to figure out what tanks get what.
      You could always make copies of the tank cards/stats from the WoT games and use the models from the old game as well. That is what I will likely be doing as I have a ton of models from the old game that I want to use in the new one.
      As I said though, there is no real reason that you couldn't mix them if you don't mind figuring out the rules changes to the vehicles or just ignoring the changes and using the old stats.

  • @S13Egg

    Thanks for the video, what about the special abilites that tanks have? I have seen some Fortress ability on one of the heavy tanks.

    • @Trueflights
      @Trueflights  3 года назад +1

      I can't believe I kind of skipped that. I did mention that the tank classes had abilities now, but forgot to go into detail about them.
      All of the ones in the starter set are Medium class which allows you re-roll a blank on your attack dice.
      Heavy tanks can re-roll a blank on defense rolls.
      I haven't seen the actual rules for the lights, tank destroyers, and spg's yet. I know the tank destroyers have shunting that gives them a defense bonus if they are on cover. I think the lights give other friendly tanks a bonus to shoot at enemy tanks near them.

    • @Trueflights
      @Trueflights  3 года назад +1

      The Fortress ability is for specific tanks, not tied to a class. I've seen it on heavies and mediums. Fortress removes the normal penalty for being flanked. Basically the tank with that ability has reinforced armor.
      There is an opposite ability (I can't recall the name), for tanks like tank destroyers, where their side armor is weaker and even more vulnerable to flank attacks.

    • @Trueflights
      @Trueflights  3 года назад +1

      Unfortunately, they do not cover all of these abilities in the core Rulebook. I assume that expansion tanks will cover these other new rules when they apply to those specific vehicles (like the wave 1 tank destroyer expansions).

      It is definitely a good game. Once they have a good number of releases out, the WoT one might well be the better of the two.
      For now though, the old game has so much more variety. So many more tanks and other vehicles to choose from. Even Italian tanks. When all that stuff is available on the WoT one too, it will be a great game.

    One more question, what about the equipment? Is it more streamlined, simpler? Is there more or less types of it?

    • @Trueflights
      @Trueflights  3 года назад +1

      Overall. It is about the same. It seems that there are less options for actual crewmen, but more parts type upgrades.
      I will say that while the starter set doesn't come with any crew, I have seen some in the expansions. I didn't mention that in the comparison video as I hadn't seen the expansions yet. This makes up for one of my complaints about the new game. Hopefully they will continue to add more crew options s more expansions come out. Still it would have been nice to see some in the starter set.

    being able to mix and match "factions" means you can basicly make a group out of verious other factions ala Spanish Faction ect

    • @Trueflights
      @Trueflights  2 года назад

      yes. with the new rules in the World of Tanks version, you are not limited to just one nation on your side. you can have German, Russian, American, Italian, British, and French tanks all in the same platoon for example.
      Historians and purists like to stick to single nations or alliances that actually existed, but the actual rules for WoT allow you to go that route is you wish, which is a nice option to have so early on the games life when there were very limited vehicle options to choose from.

    • @Trueflights
      @Trueflights  3 года назад +2

      World of Tanks doesn't really go by Axis and Allies. Since you cash freely mix and match tanks from any nation, they just gave you one of each from the 4 main factions. It's a nice variety pack to let you get out a bunch of different ones as well.

    So I can just buy the FOW tank sprues and I have the cards already for them in the original game? Or would they need extra tokens etc
    I guess I’m asking, can I buy the separate sprues or have I got to buy into the more expensive expansion models??

    • @Trueflights
      @Trueflights  Год назад +1

      FoW tanks are the exact scale of the tanks from the game, but they do not come with the cards and things needed to play them. If you are playing the original Tanks game, it does come with extra cards so that you have the stats needed to play those tanks in the game.
      The expansion packs do cost a little more, though not that much when you really look into it. Most can be found for around $10-15. Those expansions do come with all of the cards you need to play the tank in the game (a vehicle card with stats, several equipment, upgrade, crew, and one unique hero card).
      Basically, if you already have some FoW vehicles laying around, they can be played using the cards from the original starter set. If you are looking to buy new Tanks though, it is worth it to pay the little bit more to get the cards that come with the expansion packs.
      The World of Tanks version changed up the Vehicle cards, stats, and some of the equipment a bit. If you are playing that version of the game, you are much better off buying the expansions.

    Which is better for solo play, if any?

    • @Trueflights
      @Trueflights  3 года назад

      Neither one really has any rules for solo play. I'm sure you could come up with something (if someone else hasn't already). They really are the same game though, with a couple rules tweaks/changes. I don't think it would matter which you used if you were going to play solo. At the moment, the GF9 Tanks game does have a much larger selection of vehicles available. I'm sure the WoT one will catch up eventually, but the old game has several years of releases under its belt already so there is a lot more to choose from.

      As many a you want really. I think the best games are 2 to 4 players though personally.
      There is no real limit. The stater set comes with 4 different factions, so you could play 4 player right out of the box with each player getting a single tank, or 2 each of you get 2 starters. Then you can expand your platoons with the expansion packs

    • @Trueflights
      @Trueflights  2 года назад

      How does reducing the HP on an American medium tank for balancing reasons, equal Russian bias? If anything the game is a bit German bias, as it should be. The German tanks were simply better than all the other nations during that time period and I think they did a good job representing that.
      Also, I can't remember if I mentioned it in the video, but I'm sure I did somewhere. The Sherman in the old game was a later war variant with heavier armor, so it make sense that it has more HP. The one in the new game is a much earlier version of the tank.

      I will say that the game is far more of an arcade style action game than a simulation game. If someone was looking for a realistic war sim game, then they would likely be disappointed by it. If you go into it with expectations that it is going to be like the video game, then it will be a lot more appealing.
