Estigmene Acrea Molting

Some other caterpillars were trying to eat this one while it was molting so I quickly rescued it from the cage. Without protein supplementation they will opportunistically cannibalize other caterpillars while they are soft from molting. I eventually learned of supplementing with dry cat food soaked in water and after doing that the cannibalizing stopped.
This species has a wet appearance to their hairs after freshly molting, and will rub their hairs against their head to fluff up their hairs.
