      @@HappyPharmLife thanks so much because of you something that has been in my bucket list for many many years has been marked off. It was an amazing day driving up.
      It was an interesting drive down it was pouring down rain and got to see the rangers have to get a bit loud with a man at the brake temp check who had LARGE amounts of smoke billowing from under his vehicle from his brakes not wanting to pull over and stop but the got him to.
      It was such an awesome view up top and because of your video I knew to make a reservation and got to go all the way up which it was absolutely worth it!!!

    Wow, PIkes Peak is really beautiful with that snow on it. I drove up it in Sept 2022 and was very nervous about it as I don't do well with heights. If you're considering it- Unless you are terrified of heights I would drive up it vs taking the cog railway. It was such a fun adventure but I'd be lying if I said I didn't have some very sweaty hands lol. Tips- Go for an EARLY time slot. The reason is so you're far less likely to have people pile up behind you. Be sure to pull over when possible to let them pass. Keep your eyes glued to the inside as your drive up since that is the scary part as you're on the side close to the edge. On the way down- make sure you aren't riding your brakes! A good idea is to skip all stops on the way up and do them on the way down if you're not used to using your gears, that way you have built in rest stops to let them cool off.
    Also did Skyline drive which was pretty tame after Pikes. But seeing those dinosaur tracks was really fun and gives you an idea of just how much things have changed over time.

      These are great tips! We also took an early timeslot and didn't have people behind us so we could take our time!

    Did both Pikes Peak and Mt Evans last year and preferred the views from Evans. The road up pikes is in much better shape but it gave Evans more of an adventure feel.

      @@HappyPharmLife We usually take highway 400 from near Joplin and hit hwy 50. Neat little towns on that route.

    Oh we know how the drive is through Kansas... We just drove from Colorado springs Colorado for Roller Skating Nationals @ the Xfinity skate center all the way from Connecticut... Gps said 28+ hours but it was well over a 30 hour drive that we made with barley any stops... Just for food snacks drinks and bathroom! We are leaving today and really want to check out pikes peak before we head home Connecticut because of how beautiful it looked in your video and because you had enjoyed your drive up pikes peak! Thank you for the enjoyable and informative beautiful video, and for sharing your experience with us!

      That drive is brutal but we were coming from mid-Missouri so not nearly as long of a drive. It said it would take is 10.5 hours and it took closer to 12 hours with very minimal stops as well. I hope you get to go up Pikes Peak it is a beautiful drive!

    I got a question I got reservations for 8-10am but does that mean I only have those two hours and I have to come back down? Or does that mean I can go wherever between that time.

    • @HappyPharmLife

      When we went last year, that was just the timeframe we had to enter. We didn't have any restrictions on how long we stayed on the mountain.

    I am from Florida visiting CO 1st week of March. I have no experience in driving in slow or not even in the mountains. Is it safe to drive without prior experience? I will have to think about taking a jeep tour if it is too scary

    I'm going to Pikes Peak early December. If there is snow would I need a 4 wheel drive or can I make the drive to the top in an economy car?

    • @HappyPharmLife
      @HappyPharmLife  Год назад +1

      You would need to call the weather information line. The ability to go to the top will depend on if they have cleared the road or not. It took over a week for the entire road to get cleared to the top in May. A 4 wheel drive would definitely be helpful that time of year.
