    Turns out I misread the sign coming back down from the Manitou Incline trail. It wasn't 7 miles, more like 4 miles 😜
    Oops 😬

      I think even the sign you showed is outdated. We just did this climb, exiting the Incline onto Barr trail where you showed nets ~4 miles total (including Incline). I think there's an "older" section which you can get to by simply continuing forward past the top of the stairs. It's another ½ mile on a beautiful, wide trail, with a bit more climbing. This dead ends at the Barr trail which you can take back to the trailhead. This got me ~5 miles and aligns with the signage and things you read online.

    • @travelwithbo

      @standish250 thank you for clarifying! It was a little confusing because what my fitness tracker said didn't align with the signs

      Yes, it's a totally different perspective! Everyone tells me to make a video about my city, but I can't! I can't put myself into a tourist's shoes in my own city 🤪

    My first "real" job was as a guide at the Cave of the Winds. I was 17 years old. The year was 1968! I would give anything to move back to my beloved hometown---Colorado Springs. My heart never left the gorgeous Pike's Peak region. The city is now about five times the size it was when I was living there. The Garden of the Gods was my back yard--my playground---literally. The Mount Manitou Incline was a sort of rail car that pulled people up the mountain (and down) wherein you sat looking out over the city. It was one of the best attractions in the region. Why it was discontinued is beyond me. I loved seeing this video, but there is sadness in it---much of the quiet charm of the city has been lost forever. But I guess most people can say the same thing if they grew up in a beautiful place. Thanks for posting this.

    I live in the Springs and I would also highly recommend going to Glenn Eyrie. It's just north of Garden of the Gods, and you do need a reservation, but it is one of the most beautiful places on earth. Gorgeous castle, lots of history. You can do a high tea, if you book early enough you can stay in the castle. Lots of wildlife as well.

    Planned to visit and do the incline and go to pikes peak, hike garden of the gods... Got to the area and became suddenly really ill, short of breath, dizzy, headache, bad nausea and couldn't sleep, no appetite. Huge downer!!! So warning to anyone from the flat lands, might wanna book a few days to relax first before starting your adventure. Also that incline looked so steep!! Maybe next time i will have better luck!

    Having lived here in Colorado Springs, off and on, for the last 48 years, most of locals know these Anasazi Indian dwellings are B*lls*it. They built them back in the 30's and 40's for tourist dollars. If you want to see real ones, go to south-western Colorado where they have 50-60 of them. They have guided tours led by a park ranger. That's why you are allowed "unsupervised" in the C.S. cliff dwellings because everyone knows they're b.s. Garden of the Gods was a sacred site by local Native American tribes and they would not war against each other, or, build there. Fun fact however, Red Rocks and Garden of the Gods are part of the same rock formation that stretches 100 miles from Denver all the way down to Canon City.

    • @travelwithbo
      @travelwithbo  Год назад +1

      When I first read up on those Cliff Dwellings I knew they are "fake replicas" for tourist. But still kinda interesting to see, especially for an immigrant from Europe that knows about Native American Tribes only from Western Cowboy Movies 😬😅
      What places would you recommend to see the real ones?

    • @daveb.4268
      @daveb.4268 Год назад +1

      Mesa Verda National Park in the extream south-west of Colorado. Some of the park even goes down into New Mexico. The "four corners" area is going to take any study of Indian culture to the next level and you can really feel it to. Canyon De Shelly, Arches N.P. in Utah, Salt Flats, of course, Grand Canyon N.P. are all much better at showcasing Native American history.

    Seven Falls has lost ALL its charm! All of it. I had been there 3 times before returning last month. Just wow omg they have ruined the experience so much. If u drive up there they turn u around and give u directions to drive to a parking lot so a shuttle can pick u up. U have to drive 15 minutes (that's if no traffic) back into town to a lot.might not seem like a lot, get in your car and drive for 15 minutes. It's a long ways away. In the lot u will see a sign telling u approx how long u have to wait. Ours said 1 hr but fortunately it was just a 50 minute wait. Evidently 1-2 hours is common. Why so long? Bc they have 2 small shuttles and that's it. So already really dumb. Then the shuttle drops u off and u have to walk UP a road for at least 30 minutes before u get to the falls. I had to ask people coming back down to make sure I didn't miss a path somewhere. I had a 2 year old with me. If it was just me I wouldn't mind the walk. But why can't the shuttle just drive u up? There were people on our shuttle that I never saw at the falls, elderly etc... hang with me I'm not even too the part that is so dumb. So they used to light up the falls at night with 7 different colors. The retention pond? next to the restaurant and gift shop was lit up and it all just uses to be full of people enjoying themselves. If they light it up now u would never know it. Why? Bc they usher u out around 6:30ish bc they have to make sure u get back down to catch a return shuttle. Maybe if u hike in there or something u could stay but when I went we were the last ones up by the falls. So ok kind of cool bc we had the place to ourselves but of course everything is closed up and no people so it totally kills the vibe. And of course the falls aren't lit up. If it was waterfalls on a scenic trail than I'd probably prefer to be a alone and enjoy nature. But that's not what this place is or ever has been. It's just not the same, won't b back. At least I can look at my refrigerator magnet I've had forever that shows the beautiful colored lit up falls. Oh and the wait for the shuttle on the way back was 1 hour. Crazy bc like I said we were the last ones to leave so wonder how long those people had been waiting down at the bottom? Had a smile on my face the whole time but inside was just like wtf happened here???everyone knows the best time to visit was always evening so u could experience both the day and night version of the falls. It's in a canyon so it's not like the change took long at all.used to be native american shows and stuff too right next to the base of the falls but of course u get up there now and just nothing. Just too bad all around.

    • @travelwithbo
      @travelwithbo  Год назад +1

      Oh wow, I'm sorry you had such a bad experience with 7 falls. We went there during the day so I didn't even expect there to be any lights. Also we waited no longer than 20 minutes for the shuttle both ways and they dropped us off right by the gates to the park. Maybe it's different now 🤷‍♂️
