Hospital pharmacist here: About 3 years ago, most of our pharmacy technicians walked out because they were making around $15/hour…working evenings, holidays & only 2 weeks vacation for 1st five years. Target was paying the same amount and no evening/holiday hours…pharmacy technician turnover is unbelievable. Oh, they would hand out “wow” awards ( gee, thanks) or give them a birthday cake ..Hospital honchos were out of touch. I am about to retire. So happy that I made it to 65yrs

I graduated in 2005; have learned so much! I wish I had completed a residency then but the one I wanted wasn’t offered that year. Since then my conception of pharmacy has expanded so much & I see (I think) that were as a profession can do so much more. But then I think who’d want a pharmacist 19 years out

I live in Belgium (am from the US and lived there for 35 years before moving). All prescriptions here come boxed or in a bottle already-no counting out pills-with the rare exception of something that has to be compounded. Doctors don't call things into the pharmacy, and all prescriptions go directly onto your government number-accessed through your national EID card, so you need to present your card to access the prescriptions. Everyone waits in line for their scripts. And pharmacies are usually closed for an hour at lunch time so all pharmacy workers get a break (and pharmacies are only open until 6pm. After that you have to go to whatever pharmacy is on "watch" for the evening). It's a much more sane system that doesn't burn out workers.

PBMs are licensed to steal money - all they have to do is pay off Congress. Corps make it up by taking away your labor. You get squeezed. Great analysis by the way! Yes, you don't want to ever have a heart attack in a retail pharmacy...they'll just walk over your dead body...People can get killed if med errors happen when the pharmacy is so busy that is unsafe. PBMs are part of the financial industry...think sort of like Goldman Sachs....Pharmacists are altruistic but they are exploited in a predatory environment.Who own's CVS? Who owns Walgreens? Start there.These people only play hardball.

As a pharmacist retail after 17 years at Walgreens burned me out. I moved to hospital work environment and now I love my job. I work retail on the side for extra cash. I make really really good money with my combined job income. Yes, I feel tired but the $$ makes it tolerable. I see people breaking their backs for far less than I make and I just shut my mouth. It’s hard to cry about my work life when I make over 200k a year.

I’m planning a 2 1/2 month road trip throughout the US and Canada. I will be spending 10 days between Yellowstone and theGrand Teton National Parks. 👍🏻
