    You are the only person I've seen on the internet open the door correctly by first opening the vent/flue all the way before you open the door to prevent smoke roll out. You see so many complain about the smoke they don't realize they're doing it wrong. It even tells you in most manuals to do it this way. Kudos. By the way, can you actually cook on the top of this stove in emergencies?

    • @DudeRanchDIY
      @DudeRanchDIY  2 года назад +1

      Haha yeah growing up with a wood stove my father was a stickler about the house smelling like smoke. He made sure my mother, sister, and I all knew how to properly open and operate the stove! You can definitely cook on top of the stove. Much better suited for long drawn out cooks like soup or stew rather than a hot high temp steak but think about how the pioneers and early settlers would cook!

    That Drotlet is a high capacity stove. I had a Nightengale wood stove for 15 years. 10 years ago we went with a Fireplace Insert, which takes up a lot less space. It has 2 / 90 CFM Blowers, which we only have to use when it’s extremely cold outside. It will heat our 2200 sq ft house. Stay warm👍

    In my opinion, the greatest way to have a stove setup. A good amount of wood within 20 feet of the stove. Nice woodroom by the way. I see so many people carrying a couple pieces in from outside a couple times a day. I want to ask them, is that all they do? So nice to have a setup like yours. I have a similar setup. makes it so easy.

    If it’s mild weather, left to right is a preferred method that’s burns slowly. In colder weather, front to back in a hotter burn.
    Wood placement: rack all the coal to the left front corner then fill the box from right to left. The burn is slower while producing lots of heat. Burning it from the center, as you showed, burns all the wood at one time requiring more frequent refills. Think of smoking a cigarette- it last longer burning from the end first oppose to trying to smoke it while burning it from the center.
    Nice set up and great stove

      @@trevino37 I like it a lot, it’s not as large 2 cu ft firebox but it burns nice and evenly and very clean. I got it second hand after bartering firewood from a friend so I need to replace the door gasket and then I think it’ll burn even better! The Drolet was nice but it really went through wood fast.

    I burn the tears of all oil burning home owners in mine. We heat over 3000 sq ft with ours, do plan on installing the blower unit I ran a 20" box fan which worked well.
    Lucky we have all the land that we do so besides the work I do way way ahead of time to "harvest" the wood with our tractor it's free. Hot water uses oil so worst case we use about 300 bucks worth of oil annually.

      @@DudeRanchDIY you'll get there man, as you're well aware it genuinely takes years. About 3 solid years for us for me to build up so much firewood, and to save up money for a really good stove the ht3000.
      We started with a 1979 buck 27000 and I love the ole girl but it's dirty and about 4 hrs is all I could get from her unless I mixed hop-hornbeam with a few bio bricks to gain an extra hour! That was reserved for below zero tho to be fair. Also I couldn't afford proper stove pipe and the wife demanded I make the pipe run up the gable far end of the house, and it was only double wall uninsulated pipe. I had 3 90's and 13' of 1 1/2" pitched horizontal pipe with a stack straight up at 16' to make my draft.
      As you're well aware man it was far from ideal but it was safe and it worked when I read so many guys on here tell others it'll never work, you just need a good understanding of what you're trying to do basically. Also I checked the pipe monthly no matter what but honestly with proper wood it was always better than I expected considering she was chugging 24/7.
      The old stoves do tend to have hotter stack temps which makes them draft stronger by nature which is the ONLY benefit of being far less efficient to our new stoves. Many people I know that grew up with the old stoves hate the new ones and it's almost always them not wanting to change their ways/habits to maximize the new stoves.
      I would've loved to buy the blaze king-king stove for the 40 hour burn that's for real, but it needs a totally vertical stack with such low flue temps and even with my correct stack now I still have 2 45 and 1 clean-out-tee but Im sticking with the 16' vertical stack with "only" 5' horizontal pipe which goes through the wall thimble tho she still has alittle pitch.

    Question why the music? It's kinds kinda distracting. How many square ft does your Drolet heat? Just wondering?

    • @DudeRanchDIY
      @DudeRanchDIY  3 года назад

      I just put the quiet music in to fill the complete silence, some people like it others don’t I guess! Can’t make everyone happy haha. The Drolet heats the majority of the house about 2,500 sq ft I’d say. The downstairs is hot, upstairs is pretty cold but we don’t mind.

      @@DudeRanchDIY oh sorry.
      I was going to ask if you had the optional blower unit installed on it rather than a fan of any sort to move the air around. I have used cheap fans for years as I can easily move them and they move more air but the blower unit is able to move the absolute hottest air so idk if it's worth it or not

      Not sure what your considering bad practice here…? Simply filling the stove with wood will not cause it to overheat and burn down the house. Leaving the air dampers open and unattended will cause that to happen. In this instance I was using an infrared laser thermometer to monitor both stovetop and stove pipe temperature.
