I did my first burn today with the Drolet Escape 1800 and I am impressed. Thank you for the good service Obadiah's and I appreciate your effort to answer all my questions. =)
You put the screen on upside-down. I know because I did the same, and it fell off. I went off on the customer service rep at Drolet, and she kindly sent me a picture of the correct installation. The long tabs slip under the cooktop...nice and secure. Thanks for consistency in providing great content.
Thanks Sarah. I'm considering this stove and wondering what makes it cheaper than some of the others? It seems to have the same features as the pricier models and has an even better emission rate (1.54 g/h). What would be the reason to get a pricier model like a quadra-fire, lopi, or Napoleon? Thanks!
I have the HT2000 model for 4 years now and love it....just one safety concern, if you use the ash pan make sure the metal plate is well seated back into the cleanout opening. I didn't clean around the plate very well so air was coming in from the bottom but didn't realize it until I couldn't dampen down my fire, it took me about 10 second to realize why my stove was getting dangerously hot. I just moved the wood aside and used a poker to reseat the pan/plate.....
I've always used my propane torch to light all my stoves an fireplaces. Even fellow contractors have questioned my decision making mentality using the torch lol. I started by necessity, but it's by far the safest and useful way to both warm a cold stoves flue pipe ( tho I use the draw collar now which is the best thing I've ever bought for the stove) Friend of mine always lit his stove with firestarter, idk fine details but his wife varified it, he went to lit it with kindling there was an explosion. Mind you it was gel fire starter he had used for years, obviously the right circumstances finally occurred and the poor bastard burn off his eye brows, and scarred the hell out of him. Believe he uses a propane torch now
Hi! Is that sheetrock wall behind the stove? The back does get very hot? I just got the same stove and wondering if can i just keep the sheetrock wall or i need any stone wall behind?
What's the difference between modular heat shield and optimized? Love your website because every kind of stove you carry is there with all the info. Best website for woodstoves bar none. One other question..what is flexpipe?
Should the ash cleanout plug always stay closed? My stove has the air intake running through the ash box underneath. So I'm wondering if i should leave the plug open, or if the damper lever is enough.
The firescreen option is amazing. I suspect the reason for that most companies removed it is because the tube and baffle system that is common in most non catalytic stoves directs the smoke toward the door increasing the chance of smoke roll out when the door is open. I have this problem with my Quadrafire and I have seen several youtube videos showing the same problem. Some manufacturers like Lopi put bypass dampers in that can be opened when reloading, which I think is a good idea. I would love to know how Drolet got around it.
I have the 2000 model I only get smoke when I initially open the door and thats rare(depending on the state of the burn) I can leave my door open without any issue of smoke rolling out.....and I think my stove is exactly like this one just a little larger. Edit ; I just noticed this model may not have the same air flow, as mine has the air damper on the top front.
Seeing a RUclips channel and model-specific video is giving me confidence for purchasing a stove from you, found ya online while looking… 🔥 Can the hinge be on either side? How long should this entire first-burn process take, couple hours for each step? It has a ash drawer, right? Would I need a blower for this model in 1000sqft?
That a girl. Use that blow torch. I do the same and as you said don't walk away especially if you are starting to experience those annoying memory problems (-;
Lots of happy Drolet owners on reddit. Can't go wrong with this manufacturer.

What should airflow and blower setting be for first burns ?
Love this one.
I'm pretty sure that's the one I'm going to get

Do you have the outside air supply?
Enjoyed this video. Can't wait to do the first burn in our Bistro. Has the same fire box as the 1800.
Would this be to big for a 1500 foot square home?
I did 3 small burns outside for the paint curing process and after installing no smell.
Drolet told me during first cure to leave the door open 1/8" to prevent the door gasket sticking to the paint.
Can you actually cook on the tops of these stoves? Other than an egg?
Yes, can you cook on the top of the stove. Depending on how hot you are running the dampers, it could hit up to 600 degrees.

Flex pipe is used for older fireplace inserts..

That and most insurance companies will not insure you if using one.
Im not to sure but will look it when i get home maybe you can pull the top stone forward allowing the smoke to go up the back instead.. 🤔

Sorry I just saw on the website that it does indeed have the drawer, so that’s good!
I do not see this on your website?
It can be found on our website here: www.discountstoves.net/Drolet-Escape-1800-Wood-Stove-on-Pedestal-p/db03102.htm
Will the top get hot enough to heat water and cook eggs?
Sure
Home insurance would not allow me to use the screen.
👍👍
