I commented in your last vlog about how I took a tour similar to this when I was 17 and your video brought back so many memories and here I am commenting again because I relate SO MUCH. There is something about Switzerland, man! It’s truly MAGICAL. Something about the Swiss Alps and being surrounded by their pure beauty is something else. The people are so friendly there, too. It’s hard to explain the feeling if you haven’t been there! It’s just a feeling I’ve never had anywhere else. I also loved Venice. A city on water!?!? With no cars?? I was able to go back to Italy when I was 25 and travel all around for 2 weeks and I fell in LOVE. I’m a quarter Italian and I just felt like I was home. So glad you had such an amazing time in your travels! Excited to see more progress on the house now that you’re back! 🥰

This is weird, being french (from normandy in the north west), I never really liked Paris, maybe because I'm more of a countryside kinda girl, but it feels very crowded and overwhelming to me. I'm always surprised that people love Paris so much and can fall in love with it like you guys did.
But I actually was in Paris the same day you were (we had a halt to go to Amsterdam) and I was so devastated to find out that you had been in the bloody Richelieu Gallery in the Louvre ON THE SAME DAY THAT I WAS and I missed yooouuuuu !!!!
Are you planning on having a lil meet up next time you come ? Like grab a coffe, or have a picnic in a park ?
I like Paris but it’s similar to other cities in Europe. I prefer other cities like Amsterdam, London, Edinburg, Salzburg… France has a lot of beautiful countryside places.
I agree! I feel like many of these big, well known cities are overrated because most tourists go and visit these instead of all other amazing places (same for many countries).
I think a lot of the big European cities are like a theme park the first few times people visit them so they seem a lot more attractive at that point than when you get to know them. I used to live in London and I think of it the same, just overwhelming and really tiring. I can see why people like it the first few times they visit but once you get below that it's kind of the same as any other big city. A lot of tourist don't seem to think to visit the more rural areas.
I love Normandy it’s beautiful & I loved learning the history. Just a long travel from the UK
I lived in Paris for over 15 years and I am still so in love with the city. My heart still melts and I feel home everytime I return. Really do feel it is an amazing and beautiful city ☺☺☺. Love the countryside as well and Normandy is lovely indeed. Bonne soirée 💫💕💫
Omg I’ve taken the “European Magic” Contiki tour of Europe for my husband’s first time to Europe and it was an incredible experience! Just like you, we were able to have a chance to see as much as possible and go back to where we want to go! Highly recommend those tours.

It’s so funny how everyone can experience Europe so differently because the way you are describing Rome was the way I felt about Paris. There was so much graffiti, vandalism, crime, and trash that I was a little bit let down. Still a beautiful experience and some amazing history and art but I think sometimes we can romanticize these places in our mind and then maybe they fall a bit short when they turn out to have the same big city problems that American cities do.

Yes, you must do the big Paris flea but there are other fleas in several arrandissmontes (neighborhoods). My mom and I spent 11 days and visited the Eiffel Tower 3 nights. We stayed at a small B&B called “A Room In Paris.” It’s run by two lovely gentlemen. Pete and Thierry. They have rooms available their communal“apartment,” but we chose to use their top floor studio apartment that we had to ourselves. It was like we were actual Parisians! I highly recommend it. It’s right near Gare du Nord metro station. We also got “Velib” bike passes and rode bikes around. I will never forget it!
Wow it was only $2k/person??? So happy you shared that. That makes it seem more attainable than I would have previously thought.
I live in Switzerland and was in Sri Lanka while you were touring Europe. I was really shocked to see snow when I got home because spring was definitely there when we left, but seeing you so excited about snow actually made it easier 😂 I’m so happy you enjoyed it so much and can’t wait for the make over season!

Welcome back Macenna! My first (and last time) in Europe we did Paris and London for 9 days. NGL…Paris was absolutely my favorite of the two! And not just for the luxury/designer shopping (I kinda went insane and outta control - I justified it all bc of VAT but let’s be honest..excuses. Lol!) but bc seeing all the STUNNING architecture. However, my favorite portion of the trip - spending the day at the Palace of Versailles. 😍😍😍 I couldn’t get enough of the art, opulence, structures, gardens. It was completely mind blowing and I can’t wait to go back and visit. I highly recommend you and Romeo go back and soon!!

I know you landed back home awhile ago...but I don't think I myself have come down to Earth again after taking in that wondrous overseas experience you shared with us. Wasn't lying when I mentioned being moved to tears several times watching that video. And your reactions were the icing on the cake. It all definitely left an indelible imprint on my heart. I'm sorry you couldn't tick everything off your bucket list in Paris. A return trip in the future will take care of that detail :) Thanks for all the information! traveling is fun and i can tell you love it, but you seem happier at home, your smile says it all
I would love to see a vid about best practices working with contractors- how to find them, negotiating pricing, how to talk to them about things they messed up, etc etc ☺️
When you do go back to France, I HIGHLY recommend using a Rick Steve’s guidebook to plan your trip and to use when you are there. He provides self guided walking tours and outlines the best ways to plan your time. Never steered me wrong!

I am happy you are back so we can see you decorate your home and see how you decorate it. Ive missed the vlogs of renovating the house and how hard you work doing it. You build so much of it by yourself and how much you have learned to do. I’m amazed at your skills.
When I was in Italy I was for sure that Rome was going to be epic. It was amazing, but Pompeii, down by Naples, was my absolute favorite. It was so much more than I expected it to be. My life altering moment was in Florence, standing in front of David. I just stood there and shook. I had no desire to see anything else in the museum, I just wanted to be in his presence.
Welcome back I agree about Rome. More graffiti than LA!!! I went to the Sistine Chapel 20 years ago in the summer. 104 degrees and no air conditioning. Stood in line 2 hours. could not do that again. I was 54 at that time!!

Swiss alpes are the prettiest thing in the world. In winter and summer. Each time I go there I am absolutely stunned !

Paris is a city that you have to go back !!! It's magical !!!! When I visited Paris, I stayed for 4 days and I had the time to see many things. But you can't have enough of Paris !!!
I lived in Northern France for five months and went to Paris every other weekend, if not more. Paris is a city you can easily spend a week in. The TGV allows you to do day trips, so you can go as far as Lille and back in a day because it goes so fast. Versailles is amazing, and give yourself a full day because it’s enormous. And finally, if you do go back, I recommend doing Paris and Nice. I remember being in the last car of the overnight train, and when I got up in the morning, I watched out the very back window as we passed rolling hills that reminded me of Tuscany. You can grab a bus to Monaco, and do a little day trip there to see the harbour and casino. It’s very closeby

Hi, don't often write a comment but I am from Switzerland and your video from Europe made me smile so much. You were very lucky to see the snow it came that very day after many days of hot spring weather. I thought about you the other day as in my village they did like a big bring what you don't use and take what you want for free. I found many old books that are so pretty and got ideas from you for how to use them as decoration. Thank you for sharing, I really enjoy watching you. Belle journée

I completely agree with you in regards to taking a tour for your first time in Europe! It makes it so much easier. I absolutely fell in love with Venice, and like you, Rome was not what I expected. We were told graffiti is legal there as long as it isn’t on historical structures. 🤦🏼♀️
When you come back to France . I highly reccomend Bordeaux. You can fly from the States to Bordeaux . Paris was designed from Bordeaux. My friend is a tour guide , she told me. I live in the south west of France and am very proud to live in this amazing country, Even though i am not French. Xx
So funny - 30 yrs ago my sister & I backpacked through Western Europe & Also saw 9 countries! And ended our trip in Paris - but we sailed back to the UK to fly back home to the states. However, we had 2 Months!!! And that was a lot! Can't imagine doing 9 countries in 2 Weeks!! WOW! So glad you guys had a great time! We only had one day in Paris ourselves - but Italy was my favorite country! And & 23 yrs after our trip my sister & I went to meet & travel with my daughter who was doing a semester abroad - it was the BEST! Especially doing it the second time not staying in Youth Hostels.....Lol!! Cannot wait to see what's next with the house ♥
Can I just say - you are GLOWING MaCenna! Three weeks with Romeo, travelling Europe and making new memories has clearly lit you up inside! You are always a light, but you clearly needed the break, the fun and the time with your man! And the video footage he took, shows that you guys didn’t just fall in love with Europe, you fell in love with each other all over again - which considering how long you guys have been together is just awesome to see!

In the 70's when I first went there it was magical but seemed to go downhill from then. Agree about Paris, lovely city, but prefer the south of France, the Cote D'azure is breathtakingly beautiful. Welcome back! Happy to see more reno videos! / Did you mean electrical paneling? If so, we had our apartment building rewired and the only electrical panel available was huge. We only needed 1/3 the size. Plus, it was grey instead of white. / That's the same brown I have in my bedroom. I used a heritage golden yellow colour for the accent wall with the windows. It's lovely! The brown keeps the room dark, and the yellow is so nice to see with the light through the yellow canvas curtains during the day!

I am sure I speak for everyone when I say we missed you and your wonderful personality teaching us and sharing with us all the wonderful DIY projects. You are a true inspiration!

Btw, my husband and I used to rent a partial container when we traveled abroad. Shipping companies don't like to have containers that aren't completely full so they would rent you space in one. We would buy things and have them shipped back via container. We bought for ourselves but also we bought things to sell. Then we would sell in pop up shops. We always at least covered the cost of the trip and sometimes made really good money. I still have the cafe table and two chairs from ww2 Paris with a bullet hole in the table top. Love it and I'm not fixing the hole.
Things are so different now that this might not be feasible for you but it might be worth looking into.

My friend and I went to Europe for our 50th. We went the AirBNB route and it was amazing to stay in real homes in real neighbourhoods and so much cheaper. Like you we looooovvved Paris. I think you would need months there to see everything. I liked Rome again because we stayed in a house not far from Rome Termini. I felt the way you felt about Rome when we were in London. There was so much scaffolding everywhere that it just lost what I had in my mind. We did Scotland which was great. Sorrento Italy is amazing and the Amalfi Coast and Malta is a little gem.

Lol Contiki such a right of passage for Aussies first trip to Europe. I did three of these in the 90s. Three weeks Italy, two weeks Turkey and two weeks Ireland and also a smaller group tour through the UK. This was all one after the other because we get what’s called long service leave - 3 months half pay paid leave after working for same employer for 10 years.

You just reminded me how much I want to go back to Paris and see Versailles and also the Palais Garneir (the Opera House). I also really really recommend making sure you take time to get some bread and wine and pastries and just go sit in a sunny park for a few hours. It is the quintessential French/Parisian/European experience and so cheap and also so great for helping you to feel really in the moment and relaxed during a big trip like that!
If you go to Versailles, you need a WEEK! A whole week just to do the inside!! Stunning!
Girl! Did ya not read "Lets Go Europe" circa 1992?? Lol! I say that bcse when we were traveling we learned that big cities had a lot in common (at that time anyway) no matter which country we saw & read about so we saw a lot of smaller towns. But Rome specifically, we avoided as people we spoke with while traveling as well as what we read spoke of the pick pockets and just general no so great goings on there - so we chose not to visit Rome. So, I am not surprised at the experience there! And finally.....Lucerne - just as you described! I didn't realize that I had actually never seen a Mountain until I saw the Alps!!! Truly Incredible! Def a top lifetime memory for me! Bravo - you gave me chills in your description of those surreal mountains!

22:00 tip for anyone who wants to see the Sistine Chapel: skip everything once you are in the Vatican Museums,go there first and then circle back to the rest of the exhibits. Never fails me.
Definitely go back and see more of Paris! Also, yes to Versailles and don't skip Scotland! Nothing in the world is like that country! You can just feel that it's old country. The castles are breathtaking. It's beautiful. I didn't want to leave. We plan to go back in 2024.
