The sound on your new videos is _REALLY_ bad. Can you please listen to it with headphones or decent speakers compared to before you changed camera. It makes me so sad because I want to watch the videos but the sound is too grating.
For the "not pretty" books: you could wrap them with either custom dust jackets or just plain brown craft paper to look more vintagey. This way you still have the books you enjoy on your bookshelves but you don't compromise the aesthetics of it all
I just love that you’re giving videos in real time. I know some channels finish a whole reno before they edit and release videos week by week. I understand why that must be easier but I do appreciate your candour about the reality of DIY’ing and how time consuming that is.
I admire when RUclipsrs like you are so dedicated to a strict upload schedule for the love of your fans, but I also love when they realize that normal life needs to be prioritized to keep them grounded! You do so much work and are definitely allowed to change your pace on the videos as you need it. 🧡 I am just glad you even upload the entire process for us! Keep up the hard work, and get plenty of rest in between too!!
For the book conundrum : have you thought of audio books? I remember you saying you like to work with background noise, and I find audiobooks a great way to get tasks done while still staying entertained (I always do dishes while listening to a podcast/audiobook/RUclips). There are a few apps that I use for audiobooks, and it's absolutely free with my library card. I'm in Canada, but I'm sure there is something similar through your city library. That way you don't have to worry about storing books (pretty or not), it's free, and you still get the background noise! I use Libby and Cloud Library.
I suggested audio books which are free just by having a library card. I use Overdrive and I know Libby is related to Overdrive, but I don't know the difference.
Love that you're flexible with your uploads! I think it translates into your videos that you're happy with them instead of forcing yourself to upload something just because it's Sunday & not being pleased with the result!
I know it's not a priority, but I'm strangely curious to know your plans for the barn/shed out back. I see so much potential for studio space! After the kitchen, that's what I'm most interested in!
Question! Do you feel safe there when you are alone? I have always wanted to ask this question. Since you don't have curtains yet, do you ever think that someone is looking in? I live alone and I am so careful for my safety and I just hope you are also being very mindful about yours. I love your videos and you are such an inspiration to me. Thank you for being so down to earth.
I love that you have realized that a house is a home in progress. Be patient, don't rush, follow your intuition with design and enjoy the process. I feel you have many more in your future, just sayin'😊
MaCenna! Borrow your books from the local library!!! I'm so awe struck by how much you have accomplished! The way you tackle big projects is an inspiration!
McCenna this has been my favorite Q&A. You are at home! My own two children are in their forties and you are younger, but I taught high school sciences (mostly chemistry) so young folks make me feel very comfortable and often I feel a pride in them just because that is what I gave my life to. I feel so much pride for you and for you parents. You are intelligent, caring and so creative, but your enthusiasm and passion make you so good at what you are doing. And lastly it is good to hear yo express that you realize you must take care of yourself. Looking forward to all you share.
I rarely comment on videos, but wanted to say that your energy is always contagious, I always look forward to your videos because it’s a good dose of positivity, and your way of approaching things is admirable! Also, I appreciate when you thrift, try to salvage many things, and acknowledge when you have enough things. It’s something so rare to see in a hyper consumer society, that I felt like I needed to say thank you! Best wishes for the rest of the renovation and can’t wait to keep seeing the progress!
We’re closing on our 1973 single wide trailer this week!!! I can’t wait to start renovating! Your videos have given me hope & inspiration that we can do it ourselves! It has full wooden paneling, and laminate floors.
You can make bookcovers out of kraft paper and hand write or use a Cricut to write the title on the spine. Sprinkle them in where you need neutrals or put them on a separate shelf, but they'll look better and be accessible! Thrifted or antique items are often much better made than modern stuff anyway. I live in College Station and you'd cringe at all the cheap, broken Target and WalMart furniture on the curbs and by dumpsters at the end of each semester!
I love how kinsley is not concerned about you working she’s just like a little kid, wants you to play immediately!! She’s a sweetheart and, it’s so maternal how you don’t get mad at her for interrupting you, you just give her that little thing and throw the toy whilst continuing your Q&A
I just want to say how lovely it is to sit and chat with you...( cuz that's how it feels). You are just so natural and the flow is so real. Thankyou for letting us all share this amazing experience with you. I'm loving it...💗
I don’t have a instagram but I do have a few questions: Will both you & Romeo have a space for his business/craft room in the new house that you will design? I know you both have your own areas for your businesses in LA as well. How much of the backyard will you use for your home? And I know you said it’s very hot but do you have any more exciting plans for it besides the cottages? Sorry for the long questions lol
I hope you will keep all your drawings and notes in a book or binder for later. And have you thought about using maybe an old door al the back of your kitchen island as a design feature??? Anyway I love all your ideas and how it all turns out.
I love the look of new book covers, but I think it’s just a matter of different overall aesthetics. I love mid-century modern and feel that it just works better with my style. Also, if you read something and decide you don’t want to keep it you can always look for local bookstores who accept used books!
Macenna, you are just so wise and it was amazing to hear you talking about long term relationships, especially since I am in one. Seeing you post a video ALWAYS makes my day and although I am so so excited to see you finish the house, I will be very sad when the Reno videos end!
I think she has another year of work still going room by room. it's so relaxing and satisfying. I can't do much right now so watching someone else brings my heart joy when she is happy. she is always happy!
I really hope that once you finish furnishing and decorating the house (as if that’s possible lol) you make a home tour while describing your thought behind everything, like you did around 12:50. The way you described it here and seeing that vision come to life is so beautiful!
Once a year invite cottage builders, tiny homes.....BBQ competitions and food trucks, bands, retailers and crafters revonater, You could hire a project manager, the markup on your back 40 could be huge. And the publicity would be terrific!
Macanna!! the fact you Can balance your life: 2 vlogs, a GIANT house renovation, a renovation video channel, being in a long distance relationship, editing all the videos yourself and corporate with companies, being a dog man … and I could keep going You may never excuse with your videos deadlines and stuff. Thanks for the inspiration YOU ARE!!💐 Many loves from Denmark 💖
I love how you thrift and reuse items. New is not always better. I’m just so excited for you and how happy you are with everything. I admire how many invested and how you have worked so hard.
Thank you MaCenna, you are a breath of “fresh air”. My boyfriend and I are renovating our home and when you said everything takes time, be patient, I could feel my body relax. Thank you for reminding me it is a process. Most days I enjoy every minute of it. And doing it ourselves has been very bonding for our relationship. God Bless you and Romeo.
I kept seeing the fence/iron gate in the background of some videos and was hoping you’d mention it soon!! It’s absolutely gorgeous and really sets your house apart from others!
I love the “episode” style of your other channel please don’t change that for the house renovation. Keep up the great editing work. I think it will be nice to reference back to over time.
A great way to 'decorate' with books whose covers you don't like is just to flip 'em around and use the page-out method!! But I'm sure you know that. 🥰 Love the vlogs & cannot wait for Tuesday!
I am selfishly so glad that you don’t plan to let anyone else take over the editing process, there is just something in the way you do it that really cannot be touched by any other content creator. You really pull us in hence why your my favourite. Thank you for making such an effort, it really is appreciated that I know before watching that I’m going to love the video.
Hello, thank you for all the motivation. I’m in my second semester of carpentry school. We are working on a tiny house. I can’t wait to start on my old house I bought last year. Keep up the good work. It helps me so much.
I love hearing about the outdoors plans. Gardening is my thing. Considering you'll have future construction for the cottages, you can take it easy for a while. Truck traffic could ruin things. Maybe break it down into zones and then it will be more affordable. Plants bought at end of the season are cheaper and the cooler weather helps them settle in with less stress. Jack Barnwell is a landscaper for Mackinaw Island and is currently renovating a couple properties. Yuliya on Y Garden is also a designer and she's shown some of her client's landscapes that I really vibe with. Once you look at their channels you'll probably get suggestions for gardening channels I follow. So many great ideas.
I have a question for you next Q&A: how do you plan and stay organized with all your tasks? I've seen how you plan your reno tasks but you also must stay on top of your video tasks and plans, too. How do you keep it all together?
I have been a silent viewer of your channel for many years!Everytime you have a new video, me and my daughter(she's 10) get excited! We love your channel
Really appreciate how open you are with how much things cost / how much you spent on things! Really good to have an understanding of how expensive it is/can be to renovate / decorate with new and vintage furniture
I thrifted 2 coffee table books that I just loved the content. One was of old architecture black and white pictures of Paris the other was a bright covered designer book. I covered the bright one with a grey and white marbled paper. No one would guess that it didn’t come that way,
I love the part of the table where you’re sitting on the couch with the bookshelves/fireplace behind you! It felt like I was sitting next to my sister! I’m looking forward to eventually watching a vlog with the same set up but there’s a finished livingroom in the back ground😆 you are incredible and inspiring!!
I’m helping my mom design her mater bath. I sketched it out for the contractor, with exact tile placement, tile names, and measurements. He was so happy and impressed. So a little nod to you MaCenna. Totally got the idea from you.
Oh Macenna I adore you! I watched the last videos year of videos over 3 weeks and I am obsessed! You have made me want to do more diys for my new house!
I love watching my cat sleep and I've been doing that for 17 years. It doesn't get old. I also love looking at him when his eyes are closed. When he gets into bed with me and rests his paws on my arm, my heart melts. I'll stay cuddled with him long after I initially need to use the bathroom. HAHAHA. I don't understand people who choose not to have a pet, unless they're allergic. I'm obviously a cat person, but Kinsley is precious!
How far is your home from your parents' home? How did you and Romeo meet? Do you think your extra cottages would be a tiny home? You can always sell them on E-bay that is your books. Miss the one where you could ask questions so what is your college background and how did you get your job that you quit from?
Hey! I heard you say over and over again the heat is BRUTAL! And I’m born and raised Texan, so girl I get it! Just thought I’d offer some advice. I used to work in construction and for out door projects we would work on them from 6am-12pm and then focus more indoor until about 5pm-7pm! It took longer but we at least got it done and didn’t sweat our butts off too bad doing it that way!😁
Thank you for sharing so much with us again and these Q & A videos are also appreciated. We have soooo many questions because inquiring minds want to know.🥰 It’s good to see Kingsley adjusting because, anywhere you guys are, she is happy to be there. You philosophy on thrifting and repurposing is wonderful and very good for our planet. Let’s hope more people get that message and blend the best of both worlds. Thank you again. There’s a saying by Jerome K Jerome that resonated with me; “I don’t want a house that has got over all it’s troubles: I don’t want to spend the rest of my life bringing up a young and inexperienced house.”
Hi! I admire the hard work u put in not only for this house but for us and the channel! I loved the little to do lists u used to make when in the building stage and how u crossed them off when u were done with each thing! It’d be fun to bring that back! Love uuu
ok i just loved this Q&A!! i loved the length of it too. it felt like catching up with your friend after a long week and ugh i loved it. i just sat there and ate my breakfast as if i had all the time in the world, listened to you, commented on the things you said and i honestly had a blast. i mostly just watch the main channel videos but lately i’ve diving into the vlog community and now i’m fully invested on watching everything you create because honestly the amount of love that you put into things shows in every second of every video and i desperately need that kind of energy! love you lots macenna, may the universe always protect you!
I hope you don’t feel too much pressure to upload too often especially if u have to rush projects! I live for your videos but I honestly don’t keep up with videos during the week, i just watch on the weekend! 💖
I realize this has the potential of sounding disrespectful but none is intended. ❤️ How did you know you were capable of taking on such a massive project? You obviously are but did you know in the beginning? Was there a time you asked yourself “what have I done?”
I swear I can watch hours of your videos I’m literally obsessed. For those not so pretty books wrap them in linen or diy something no one would ever know ❤ looking forward to watching you bring the cottage together with home decor.
The secret for “not pretty books” is putting them on the shelf backwards so the pages face out and the binding faces inside the shelf. I know it sounds crazy but it looks great and adds great texture!
For the books you can put DIY covers on them and then your favourite books can also be a part of your pretty collection. That way it will be the best of the both worlds!
Take the book covers off. Hard or soft the glue will keep the book bound. It will match your aesthetic so much more. Look up “stamped book stacks” I make them and bind them with twine.
You could make slipcovers for your non pretty book with some cream canvas, and a ribbon with a little tag on it with the book title & author that you can use as a bookmark while reading. Just make sure you make the ribbon long enough that the tag hangs out of the bottom of the book when on the shelf, so you can see what book you’re grabbing. If you got super ambitious you could dye the canvas covers pretty colors so that they aren’t all cream, or use different fabrics in different textures and colors to add variety. I just say canvas because it’s relatively inexpensive and readily available at any fabric store or even hardware store as drop clothes, but you could really use whatever you want.
She's done collabs. with Drew. He's really terrific, but I'm thinking it wouldn't be right in this situation at this particular time. This is her "baby", it shouldn't have someone else's stamp on it. Just my opinion, but that's the way I'm sensing her feelings about it. It's coming together so beautifully and aren't we so lucky that she's taken us along on this journey?
I really appreciate the fact that every aspect of your channel is your artistic expression. That’s exactly why your content is just so amazing and valuable. I’ve been highly considering creating content of my own but that’s the daunting part to me. I wouldn’t want to hire people to help, because they can’t look into my brain to see what the final piece is meant to be or feel the energy I’m trying to express. I’m going to put my foot out there sometime in the near future. But I’ve got so much learning do to! I only know how to be a hands on creative. I need to learn how to handle behind the scenes aspects as well.
OMG! can't wait for the holidays to see what you do. Not rushing you, mind you, I just love your sense of style, and your Boho Chic-ness. I'm now subscribed to both channels did not realize there were two.
I love your videos so much and look forward to them every week!!! I can’t wait to see what the rest of the year and CHRISTMAS TIME (yes I’m insane…already thinking about the holidays) bring!!!!❤️
So very happy for you. You have inspired women and men to “Do it yourself.” Can’t wait to see mamas new art collection. So much talent between you two ladies.
Very enjoyable video. I'm so happy for you and Romeo. I bet your parents have enjoyed having you close and I know they must be so proud of you. I look forward to all your videos. Btw, I fell in love with my best friend and we have now been married for 30 years. I love him more each day. I feel so blessed.
Love you MaCenna 🥰 you’re amazing! I think you’re doing better than any editor and thank you so much for all the show and tell with a beautiful flow of content and music. I’m now at the furnishing stage with one and at the finishing stage of the other. Will rent the latter end of month and move into the former while doing small renovations to the one I’m staying at right now. You’re right, I have two other huge projects, but will hold off till those crazy prices calm down. P.S. If your dad doesn’t mind building with a steel structure method for those cottage, it would be one of a kind. Just something to think about. You can also start buying salvaged material and keep for the cottages, we‘ll never know what the future holds.
I agree about the book covers! There are some great DIYs out there and I just redo the covers of the books I want to keep and make them look vintage. It's fun to do and always so pretty when done. 🤗
Honestly I think that your videos with even just the tiniest bit of progress are super fun to watch. I am so invested in this house and I LOVE all your videos!! I look forward to watching you every week no matter what the content is because you always make your videos entertaining!! 🤍🤍🤍
I live in Australia and an old school friend who used to live in Texas said they are very much the same in weather . Just a suggestion and it's what we did get the majority of the house gone first especially in summer and when it starts cooling down then do the yard so much easier.
All of your hard work does not go unnoticed. You’re videos are truly unique…I think that uniqueness would be lost if someone else was to take part in the process. Thank you for your authenticity. I can’t wait to see the kitchen come together! 😊
The fact that it's a cottage (or bungalow as we say in the UK, a cottage here is something else) means that you can both live there even when you're very old and potentially have typical old-age mobility difficulties lol because you won't have to deal with any stairs, so looking into the future it really is a house for life. Whereas a lot of people have to move out of their beloved family homes when they get older because the stairs can become too much of an inconvenience for them.
I am so excited every time you upload and I love the Q&A. Love hearing you will continue to take your time with all your projects I don't want this series to end!
Love this! Love your channels! I'm along for the ride wherever this journey takes you. I can't imagine how hard its going to be to leave this house once it's all done and you go back to spending a majority of your time in LA. Can I ask how you weigh your financial decisions? Specifically, doing all the work yourself to save money, buying so many things vintage to save money, but also splurging on things like the bathtub tray. It seems like you're really responsible with budgets, but also refuse to go cheap. It seems kinda intimidating to me to know which things to penny pinch on and which things to just spend the money.
I have to say, I know it must be so much more work/time consuming but I really do appreciate when youtubers reference something from a previous video or from Instagram or something and actually include that clip or photo for you to view as well
I just watched someone covering "not so pretty books" with white kid's craft paper from Ikea, but any paper of your choice would work and a paper store would have some really unique papers to blend in with your style.
MaCenna, my mom started watching you first and told me I needed to watch. I so enjoy how relaxed and joyful you and all of your family are. We feel like we are part of it. As if we are waiting for an invite to a dinner party once the home is finished:)
Hi. Great creation!! Just think about: the bead-board at FP-sand the one with most paint to artful look, then oil/treat both sides as a nod to the original house’s bead-board. It would look amazing behind shelving. (No caulk). Continue to respect the past 😊😊, as you’ve done elsewhere in the house. You’ve done an amazing job.
I am sure one of the reason why your videos feel so personal and creative is because you edit yourself. We can feel more cnnected. There are other diyers I like but your channel is my favorite because it feels like we are part of your journey.
The dining table top has Bow ties (not dovetails) in the top to draw the boards together, typically put in later to actually keep the boards together or nowadays as a feature. Love the table it’s most likely a bakers table due to its height (counter height).
For books that don’t have pretty covers I made book jackets out of craft paper. Then you can write titles, authors, etc on the side or front so that they can still match decor without being a blank book.
So sorry guys i have no idea what that weird glitch was in the last upload! all fixed now! :) xo
The sound on your new videos is _REALLY_ bad. Can you please listen to it with headphones or decent speakers compared to before you changed camera. It makes me so sad because I want to watch the videos but the sound is too grating.
💗
Thank you , I thought something was wrong with my computer...lol
@@fugu9 idk too much about audio but i think the gain is too high on the mic. It’s picking up way more echo and background noise. Loved the q&a!
It was fine, we could still hear you.
you’ve made so many lists and sketches, you should make a scrapbook to document all the hard work you put in to the cottage!!
Yesssss. I agree!
Agreed. Create a journal/ timeline book.
Imagine your kids or the next buyer finding the scrap book and appreciating it in the years to come 😍
This is such a good idea!!
Or maybe your mom can help you with it. She is so artistic she could paint and make it really artsy and then have it bound into a leather book.
For the "not pretty" books: you could wrap them with either custom dust jackets or just plain brown craft paper to look more vintagey. This way you still have the books you enjoy on your bookshelves but you don't compromise the aesthetics of it all
DIY project opportunity!
Pleather...
I don't understand why so many book covers nowadays are so horrible! Like those with shirtless men on the cover??? Why???
Brilliant idea!!
Excellent idea.
Girl you can have multiple renovation videos for the bigger projects! We just like watching you do stuff, any stuff!!!
100% agree! Progress updates are always fun to watch.
Like, I want a fence video lol
I just love that you’re giving videos in real time. I know some channels finish a whole reno before they edit and release videos week by week. I understand why that must be easier but I do appreciate your candour about the reality of DIY’ing and how time consuming that is.
OMG kinsley facing you 18:01 while you are talking and her little ears moving around its like she was fully in the conversation! Such a sweetie!

Hello, thank you for all the motivation. I’m in my second semester of carpentry school. We are working on a tiny house. I can’t wait to start on my old house I bought last year. Keep up the good work. It helps me so much.
Will never stop appreciating how much time, effort and love you put into every single one of your videos!!!!
I’m so happy your sweet pup is with you now. Home is a good place to be. I love your table too, those dovetails….oh my gosh.
Love the Q&A. You’re sweet to have taken the time to fix the little glitch on the video. Can’t wait to see your dad’s handiwork on the fence.
I have a question for you next Q&A: how do you plan and stay organized with all your tasks? I've seen how you plan your reno tasks but you also must stay on top of your video tasks and plans, too. How do you keep it all together?
I really like this mellow chit chat.
Your pet is so lucky to have you as her Momma. 💖 Love how your home is coming along. Take care
Hiii! You should diy some book covers to match your house for your “not so pretty” books! So you can keep them handy xx
If she does moody florals like 17th century Dutch painters (like Abraham Mignon), I would be so happy and definitely buy.
You should invite Drew from Lone Fox to do a project with you. It would be a fun collab!
I know she's worked with him before, that's why I suggested it.
I love these types of videos, feels like your sitting next to me. Can’t wait to see the living room makeover.
really love how you refer to us as "your friends" with your mom haha had fun watching this q and a! cant wait for what's next 🥰
I really appreciate that you care enough about your viewers experience and your creativity approach that you do it all when it comes to your channel.
You got this!!! Go create your world ✨️
OMG! can't wait for the holidays to see what you do.
After the house. Then the yard. How about your old out building for a place to do diy and flips. Make it MaCenna pretty
You can totally turn the book outside so you only see the pages not the binding! Still very pretty and stylish!
Thank you for showing up every week! I really respect your consistency, and I love you being a part of my Sunday routine 🥰
Omg watching little Kinsley tippy tap her way back to you each time was so cute. ❤️
MaCenna, you can get simple book covers to put over your new books so that they match your aesthetic but you can still have out
I love your table. I believe it’s what they would use as a working table in a kitchen like a island. That’s why so high and has little drawer.
Look into places online for simple dust jackets for the “not pretty” books. You can get whatever color scheme you want for them then.
Oh boy! I can’t wait to see your Mama’s new collection. 👏🏻
so, for displaying books, you can either display them spines in or you can get custom dust jackets that match your aesthetic
The dining table top has Bow ties (not dovetails) in the top to draw the boards together, typically put in later to actually keep the boards together or nowadays as a feature. Love the table it’s most likely a bakers table due to its height (counter height).
For the not so pretty books….try taking off the dust jackets. Some of the books have nice bindings but the jackets are hideous.
For books that don’t have pretty covers I made book jackets out of craft paper. Then you can write titles, authors, etc on the side or front so that they can still match decor without being a blank book.
