The fact that she had to preemptively tell people "don't judge me" before talking about finances... that was kind of depressing. This is really good information for anyone that wants to do the same thing, and while every state/city has its own cost of living - I appreciate having a ballpark number of what to expect. The fact that people would actually send such negative remarks on how little or too much she spent is RIDICULOUS. MaCenna this is your home and you can spend how ever much or little you want - thank you for sharing and being open about your experience. I think you're doing an amazing job, and I'm having so much fun watching your progress on this house.

I worked for a contractor for a while and so many people planned a renovation with unrealistic expectations of the cost. Knowing ballpark figures is very helpful, so thank you for being willing to share.

I felt sad when you talked about the pressure that you feel to post because we're all so excited to see the house and your progress. I can only speak for myself on this but as much as I love your content and these videos, I would happily wait longer for a video, if it meant that you could take a break, when you feel like you need it.

Add me to this list. I do feel the same pressure even though I'm not a video creator but even missing a post people start like hey where are you and why you are not posting. I have very small number of people in my community but I never thought it will be so much pressure when I'm creating for myself. I believe rest and taking care of yourself must always be the first priority in anyone's life. So yes, I do love all the Reno and demo of this project but I will wait happily for weeks to see this rather then seeing day after day which make her sick and lead to burnout.

Can't believe you've been on youtube for only 3 years. I've been following you for probably a little over a year and you've always felt like such a seasoned youtuber! I have to say that I have loved following this renovation so much! Such a big project, it's impressive! And don't worry about us, of course not every week is going to be eventful, but I watch every videos religiously and just love following the process!

People love youtubers because there’s supposed to be a sense of friendship and connection. You are literally the most genuine creator I’ve found! As an audience we appreciate your honesty and your spirit, it’s literally like the relationships I have with long distance friends who are overseas!
I'm glad you called out that you did your research for costs. This is your place, you get to decide what you spend and how you spend it. Hopefully nobody tries to tell you anything different. I built a house last year and we did our research on everything, but there were always a few people that thought they needed to tell us to do differently. Good for you for doing what YOU want!

I think usually you see negativity on RUclipsrs what they spent on their house because it's usually just people bragging about how much they spent on their house. MaCenna is someone who appreciates what she has and tries to get the best price for what she wants. She's doing it out of an informative way where is a lot of RUclipsrs do it as a way to show off.
Honestly, take your time. If your content is full or light, it doesn’t matter. Whatever you do it is entertaining, informative and delivered with such enthusiasm. A delight to watch at all times.
If you’re light on content, just film yourself talking to Kinsley or Kinsley playing. I could watch her all day long!!! I always miss her when she hasn’t made an appearance in a video.

After the "polar vortex" hit that area of Texas, I figured everyone there would be insulating the walls of their homes to protect themselves when/if it happens again. Is that not a worry? I watch a Lot of you tube, it's become my t.v. for the most part and I have to say that your channel is one of the best as far as content, production etc. Very professional and very enjoyable. Thank You for your attention to detail in each video and for keeping them entertaining. (and for insisting on a positive environment)

They really do. I’m rehabbing a house from 1897 and my uncle, who should have known better because I told him I was trying to save as much of the original woodwork as possible, almost destroyed 124 year old trim. Even after I told him to be careful. He told me to stop worrying so much and that he couldn’t do anything with it anyway. I told him to let me finish demoing the kitchen since he showed such a lack of regard for it. He’s a professional demo guy by the way.
XOMACENNA, I love watching you and ur "projects", especially your "new home" one. Sometimes I wish I could binge watch a 12 hour video of you. You remind me of myself 50 years ago!! I'm sure Romeo and your parents are so very proud of you, you are wise beyond your years and it's ok to cry or to skip a day, so don't be too hard on yourself. Thanks for addressing my question! One thing that's made me very happy to see throughout this process is that you're not cutting corners or making guesses about things. You're doing things correctly and researching what you don't know to make sure you build it the right way. With all the people flocking to Texas, sooooo many people are trying to make a quick buck and flipping houses in ways that, cosmetically, are great but, in reality, are sometimes even a little unsafe. Two houses on my dad's street were redone in the last year. One was done so poorly that 2 families backed out of contracts and now the house is getting redone all over again. The other one was bought by an inexperienced young family and now they're having to spend tons of money on repairing what wasn't done correctly. They've only been in the house 3 months! I applaud your integrity.
When I first watched your videos, I think I cared more about your personality and creativity than the actual DYI's. You've grown and shown your true potential over the years and it's very inspiring. I'm not sure where you find all that energy and that capacity to multitask, you are for sure one of a kind! That episode of putting down paper and patching a hole was so much more. Don't you remember you showed us how to get organized? And that is so valuable, thank you! Take care of yourself
Normally, I don’t care for Q/A, or too much shopping; I want to see the progress! But I enjoyed this one very much , your answers were thorough and genuine. I also live in So Cal, I did some renovations on a condo I just purchased, which amounted to $50,000, so your costs, for the amount that’s being done, seem very reasonable. Keep up the good work! We love and support you here in our home and we want what’s best for you ! Although we LOVE seeing what you do each week... we completely understand if you can’t post vids etc . I love how she acknowledged the question about whether her content making gets in the way/ slows down her reno. And also how her dream home is also part of her work. I've only been watching Macenna since the house renovation videos went up and I have seen a significant growth in her channel. So I guess she does have an amazing sense of business to be able to anticipate that growth that'll come with buying the house. Again so much respect ❤❤

I remember when you were first building lawn chairs! So soon after you were tearing down beat board. It’s so amazing how much you have achieved in such a short period of time!
Some viewers may think things aren't moving quickly enough because of TV shows where even huge projects seem to magically happen without delays, distractions, supply issues, and so forth. Most of these projects are conceived and planned for months in advance, a huge crew is involved (off-camera), and there are teams of architects, designers, engineers, project managers, contractors and subcontractors and tradespeople behind the "stars" all the time. So the next time you feel pressure from your huge, supportive and growing audience to get things done more quickly, just don't even pay any attention. We think you are awesome.
Just wanted to confirm that you are welcome to take a break any time you feel the need to. One of the reasons you're enjoyable to watch is the genuine excitement you have for your projects, even if it's just very carefully peeling 100-year-old wallpaper off the wall. There are a ton of diy channels and content out there, but you bring something to the table that nobody else does -- and that's you. So, it's a nice coincidence that taking care of yourself benefits your channel and your work. :)

People shouldn’t judge, if they were to do the same would they want people to judge them? If you don’t like what does with her home, don’t continue watching. I love watching Macenna. I would not make the same choices because I am older-I’ve lived through the remodeling. My husband and I have changed our house by prioritize. We took steps one at a time. I have loved that Macenna is not afraid to tackle any job. You go Macenna. You are my hero.
Anyone who has lived through a renovation will tell you it is an emotional rollercoaster. Add in having two RUclips channels that you have to film content for and edit etc., so much added stress. I am a total details person, when I get overwhelmed, I force myself to look at the BIG PICTURE. To gain some perspective!😉

You were really vunerable with telling us about your feelings and with someone who suffers from severe anxiety and depression I really appreciate that. I have a similar personality to you in the sense that I'm also a planner (probably my anxiety pushing me along) and I feel how frustrating and upsetting things can be when your plan gets messed up by things that aren't your control. You are not alone in those feelings. Please take care of yourself! My only expectation as a viewer is to watch your videos because of you. McKenna.... one of the best advantages you have thru this is that YOU are in charge of this project!! Able to move forward as you need to WITHOUT having to argue with your spouse/partner over what is being done. Many marriages DO NOT survive this kind of project.... the "power struggle" takes all the joy out of what could be an exciting time for a couple. So happy that you have a husband who respects who you are, what you do and what you are capable of doing!!! 👏👏👏👏👏

It's hard to find such detailed start to finish renovation project series like this from real people and not staged TV ones, so it's good content. We bought land and are building a house, and last night you inspired me to re-think our floor plan a bit and it's so much better now.
As someone who has dark countertops in their rental I would be super careful about choosing a dark countertop for a kitchen. It's really hard to see when it's dirty and so it's pretty hard to keep clean! But if you're up for that then I think it'll be beautiful. So excited to see it come together!

Love your style! Congratulations! You can insulate from the exterior in certain countries, not sure about US. Most energy efficient and environmental way to do it. ALSO best and easiest way to do a complete wrap of the home's exterior and eliminates thermal bridging too. No taking apart the entire interior either! Looking forward to watching your adventures!
I know this video is a year old but I felt I had to leave a comment. I just found your channel four days ago through a passing comment on “A Drill and A Dream.” And…from totally bingeing on all of your social media channels these past four days I just have to say that I love it all. I am a 62 year old disabled lady and you have brought me some renewed joy and hope that I still have some time to do a few things. I assumed that it took some money to do what you are doing, I mean really a lot of money BUT…you are very mindful and thoughtful about the money you do have to spend. You are thrifting and doing the major work yourself, and people are judging you for the finances?! I greatly admire you young lady. You are a force to be reckoned with. Thank you for being here and giving young women courage, hope and inspiration. To use a well used saying, YOU GO GIRL!
MaCenna, you just said something about worrying about whether you patching a floor would be interesting enough as content. I think I am speaking for many when I say: We are here to watch whatever you are working on because seeing you being a sweet, bubbly, optomistic bad@$$ is just SUPER empowering. You are taking on such big things, and you are so informative and grounded about it all, and it's just awesome to see you completely restore a window or demo a whole room and to know you are learning all of it as you go. It is so inspiring to see what you take on and what you accomplish! My 5-year-old daughter likes watching you too, and I love that, as a girl, she can imagine one day that her job would be at home... demoing, designing and building it ;-)

It's really important to me to hear that you had major issues that none of us even knew about. I have been doing a major renovation on my first house since March, and it's been very trying. Watching this series, while very inspiring, has sometimes made me feel somewhat weak for not having the upbeat attitude that you have. I'm oddly relieved when you say things like that you sometimes had to cry it out, and that you had to just put the guest house on hold, etc. I forget sometimes that you're focusing on presenting good content, and probably not going to show us all the mental breakdowns, lol. But I feel much more relieved hearing I'm not alone in the struggles! Love you girl, you're an inspiration!
