Loved that you found that original wallpaper! My idea would be to frame the pieces and put each one in each of the cottages! Since they are new construction, it would be a great way to tie them to the house. 🏠💛
LOVE that idea!!!!! 🥰
@@XOMaCenna Oh yeah! You could also frame the wallpaper and use other elements from the house like wood to make the frames! You could turn the frames into photo boards, art pieces, etc. You could also paper mache one of your vases with the wallpaper. You could also make an art wall in the living room or an accent wall in your bedroom
Knobs on the front might look better, but they are a nightmare with little kids and gas stoves
@@MS-zj2mf unless there's a way to lock them until you want to use them.
O my word, that original wallpaper is stunning. So precious
Can we take a minute to appreciate MaCenna's mum? Like what a supportive queen, you can tell she really supports MaCenna's vision. I stan.
So true, what a supportive and creative Mom she has. Lucky gal Macenna.
i know im randomly asking but does anybody know a tool to log back into an instagram account??
I somehow lost the login password. I would love any assistance you can give me.
As a woman who has renovated many old homes ( my hubs & I did historical renovations) I'm so proud of you for doing so much of your own demo. Demo is NOT easy stuff!! It's not only tedious as hell if you're trying to salvage the materials to use again later but it's very physically hard work! So 10 kudos to you for doing this yourself! But I'm taking away a kudo for not wearing a safety helmet. MaCenna, what you're doing isn't without it's dangers. You protect your breathing in nasty stuff and dust. You wear safety glasses to protect your eyes. You wear gloves to protect your hands. Then leave your head fully exposed to whatever falls on it - with no protection! Don't. Seriously, just don't skip the safety helmet. If it's uncomfortable line it with a rolled up bandana. But wear it! Ever step on a nail? Well imagine that going into your head when a board with a nail in it falls on you. Or even a jagged piece of wood. It doesn't have to be something big or heavy to cause serious harm. Trust me, the voice of been there- done that, you don't want to learn that lesson the hard way.
You could also take the wall paper to commercial art scanner (there is a name for them I can’t remember lol) and they retouch it in photoshop then you could have it reprinted as a custom wallpaper maybe? Maybe as a fun closet wall paper in the cottage or just as an accent wall?
You GO girl. Three things I love about you McKenna:
1. You show us how capable women are.
2. You are always so positive & upbeat.
3. You’re so creative & have a beautiful vision!
Haha - that should say three-* things......
Wow thank you so so much!!!!! 🥰😘
Omg also the detailed editing of this video! When it shows the kitchen points of view and switches to the sketch of what it will look like...and switches back. 👏
4. She laugh too much about every little thing and it's annoying
@@kurwa6664 5. You are annoying and can just click of the video if you don't like it.
Jesus that white Italian stove was the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. Usually I don’t like white and mixed metal stoves but that one just really spoke to me.
It spoke to me on a whole diff level! Lol
I concur! A stunning piece😍
It’s beautiful
So did we figure out the price of the Italian stove? And did you notice the chandelier made from glasses, crystal and other kitchen bobs?
Ex.20:7
You can tell how much your mum is loving having you at home!
In rental properties, having smart appliances is a good plan so when you’re not local, you can be sure they’re shut off after guests vacate
Can we please take a moment to appreciate that she managed to get the hammer out of the hole?!
I know, right? For sure I would have given up🙄
Real life Operation game! 😂
Seriously, I wouldn't have even tried and just gone and bought a new one 😂
That would have been my clue to go home. Lol
Fascinating….lol
Re: Airbnb - definitely electric stove. Not everyone knows how to cook with/use gas properly as it’s quite different and heats/cooks differently!
Thank you!!! I’ve always had gas so this is amazing insight! Thank you 😊
I agree :) I understand the value of gas for cooking a fancy meal but electric is way easier to clean and doesn't involve flame in a home I don't own :p
I agree! Also much easier to clean in between guests.
@@XOMaCenna yes, in case you have non American visitors staying, it might be good to know that in some countries almost no one uses gas, in France for exemple most people have electric (induction actually) stoves now, I barely know how to make a gas one fonction (+ they sound more dangerous for people not used to it!)
Totally agree on the electric for a rental. We had a glass cooktop at a condo in Hawaii and we're really pleased to have it. It was safer in a foreign (to us) kitchen.
I like that you want to make the kitchens in The cottage special, but hear me out.
Who goes on vacation or weekend getaway to cook? Or look at appliances?
Not me EVER. Make the main houses special but cut expenses on cottage appliances. 😉
Totally agree
True voice of wisdom !
Absolutely agree. You want workhorses. Stick with stainless in the rental kitchens. Simple, clean lines and basic. PS we usually buy matching brands but have purchased and mixed different ones. Stainless differences will be so minimal it’s not discernible to most people. From a rental income property owner.
Agreed!
I also think most air bnb cottages I stay at don’t have ovens. Microwave and cook top, yes. But not an oven. That’s my experience.
I think you should go with electric for the guest cottages. It's easier to use & you don't have to worry about someone blowing your cottage up. 😂😳
yes and i feel like it takes less elbow grease to get it cleaned 😂
I totally agree. Plus they are much easier to clean, which is great for having guests.
I am from Greece and i am amazed at how easy you can demolish a house in the US, here all of the houses are cement and bricks and you need some great tools and most of the times professionals to demolish even a bathroom because we have tiles all over our bathrooms not just in the shower. Also the appliances you have there are huge, and the houses too! Wish we had bigger houses here aswell
I was thinking the same in the Uk if you tried taking a wall down the roof would cave in 😂 only professionals would be able to do the job.
@@kfordgal so true! Same thing here, especially if you want to take the tub out, oh my gosh
I was thinking the same exact thing,I live in Greece too😍..everything here is so made for a life time ,so permanent!! I admire watching her demolishing the house on her own !
@@Annie91634 oh where in Greece?
Yeah you need professionals if you want to demolish a house here
Χερετιζματα από το New Jersey USA!! Στην Ελλάδα είμαι από τον Κοζάνη και έχουμε σπιτι στην Θεσσαλονίκη🇬🇷💯🇬🇷💯
I’m always so fascinated to how huge all the American appliances are😱. It’s like you’re cooking/feeding 30 ppl every day! They take out so much space. But then again, your houses are much bigger.
So different from here in Sweden.
Thanks for the shopping tour! 😍
omg yes!! As a fellow European it was so strange to watch, I was waiting for the smaller options all along haha!
The appliances she saw and other appliances I see around RUclips are definitely not what the average person has here in the US, at least not where I'm from. Although I don't know what the average in Europe is. Most people I know have 30 in stoves, give or take a few inches.
Appliances this big are mainly for rich people or big families 😂 But I think even average sized American appliances are bigger than a lot of the European standards
@@nali3376 The standard stove in Sweden is 23 inches :)
just know that the appliances at the first place are...extremely luxury, haha. and maybe luxury in the US is a level of luxury that doesn't exist in many other countries, but most people here in the US wouldn't even set foot in a store like that :)
I feel that electric is a good way to go for the guest cottages. I recently stayed in a place with a electric stove top and then below the stove it had a combined microwave/oven which was great! I usually only need a coffee maker and a place to heat up takeout when I’m staying in an Airbnb.
That white Italian stove made me gasp. It is SO beautiful.
If you like the wallpaper, the name of the motif is “De Jouy” ( pronounced jouwe). It is named after the french town Jouy en Josas.
So happy that you are able to create your dream home and adding area where other are able to enjoy it. Watching you knock down walls it show me that all thing is possible.
I have black and white Toile furniture pieces, timeless.
That's crazy! I live right next to Jouy en Josas! (Expat in France here).
Wow love it! How old is it I wonder?
@@ThePechangagirl la toile de Jouy was born in the second half of the XVIIIth century :) the one she has isn’t exactly the same style but you can see it’s inspired by that
That wallpaper is precious, totally put it in a frame to honor the originality of the home and the people who decided to put it up!
You could put some of that toile wallpaper inside the medicine cabinet. It would look so beautiful since it has a glass door.
Great idea!
I was thinking it would be nice on the back of the linen closet or framed .
I really appreciate how committed you are to saving as many materials as you can! I think Reno’s can be so wasteful but by reusing things the space will be even more unique!
Wow, you go, girl... Honestly, American houses amaze me, in Europe it's all brick & mortar, you can't demo it so easily...
Same in india
Same in South Africa
Not the same in Norway. Mostly timber
@@FilipWaal true, Scandinavia is a bit specific in that
I think it’s the different parts of America, I’m born and raised in Florida and used to cement and some brick built home. Houses up north look weird to me since they are mostly siding 😂
I totally vote electric ranges/cooktops in your guest cottages! Not everyone is accustomed to gas and it takes a certain skill to use
Thank you!!
@@XOMaCenna exactly! I'm european and have never used a gas stove in my life
Electric all the way. But just a microwave would be fine too... most guests would go out for dinner anyway...
.
Much easier to clean as well!
Yes! we had a gas stove when we were staying in a little guest cottage in Italy and while we were cooking there was suddenly a HUGE flame 😱 we almost had a heart attack (but nothing happened thankfully)
The way you talk about your house reminds me of me talking about cotton candies at the fair...your eyes look so dreamy and you are a creative piece of heaven ma'am
😂😂I feel the same way about it. Design is my favorite
Definitely electric stove. And Im just genuinely curious, how long would the general stay be for the cottages? Would a double fridge be necessary?
When vacationing I would prefer an electric stove! It is also much easier to clean which would be helpful when going in between tenants.
Also knobs on the back so kids can't turn it on by accident!
@@RosenlundTara Yes, this is a great point!
I think something that would be really cute, since wallpaper is repeating pattern, is to do a high-quality scan, clean it up, and then get some custom sheets or something printed from one of those print-on-demand services. But in the simpler arena, yes, I agree that they would be perfect in a cabinet or closet. Maybe even in that cabin linen closet you wanted to use the glass-paned door for?
I LOVE those moments where you piece together all the things the original owners did and changed over the years, those things that tell their stories... I was so fortunate to buy a house from its original owners and just adore learning their stories.
Girl, you inspire me so much and give me new power. I'am 62 and redecorating my home. When I get all worn out, your energy gives me new power. And I don't have to do nearly as hard a job as you do. Chapeau! 🌹
Just in case you are wondering, Miele is a very well known German brand that has been around for decades. Very good German engineering ;) (my father used to work for them so I can attest to that lol)
Miele is honey in Italian! :)
Miele is a wonderful brand! Very sturdy. Especially their washing machines.
The brand is pronounced mee-luh
@@amara560 yes, every household in Germany has at least one Miele appliance :D and yes the pronunciation is meeluh. ☺️
@@sonjaconrads978 Aber naturlich :)
And if you are looking for a hoover...then take a Miele one as well...they are famous for their hoover😘
I’m so glad you’re sticking to a cottage vibe! It’s my favorite part of this whole series
Definitely go gas stove top for the cottages!! The ceramic tops scratch easily with lots of use, and look old quickly bc of this.
Love this series!!! Your mom is amazing, it's wonderful to see her fully support your dreams!!!
Fridge freezer opinion...
When you’re accommodating a variety of people, the side-by-side is great no matter the height or physical ability to bend or reach etc.
Very thoughtful 🤩
That white oven/stovetop you were looking at was gorgeous omg
Omg right!!! In love
One advantage of having the knobs on the back of the stove is safety. Little children can't accidentally turn them on-just a thought.
good point, tho i just took the front knobs off when my son was lil, and just kept the knobs ina drawer he couldn't reach til he was old enough to know not to touch
I totally agree! I have also never had a stove that didn't have the knobs up top.
This whole series has been such medicine for me. I’ve been living in England for 3 years now and I’ve only seen my family a few times due to the pandemic I haven’t been able to see them for a year and some. Watching your mom and you thrift in Texas brings me so much nostalgia and comfort because that’s what my mom and I used to love doing together.
Missing Texas so much - thank you bringing a bit to me 🙏💕
for a vacation house : electric for sure, way quicker and easier to clean!
The wallpaper is so cute! You should maybe frame some of it when you start decorating 🥰
I thought the same! I’d be a lovely reminder of the whole process and a piece of what was originally there
I love this whole series! I love your mama. She reminds me of mine: Louisiana-born and Texas transplant, the quintessential Southern lady. Mine passed 6 months ago after a short cancer battle and I miss her in ways words can't describe. We used to go shopping together all the time. She helped me decorate my first house and I was her sounding board when my parents remodeled. It's obvious you value your parents; enjoy every minute of it!
Came back after the reveal of all the cabinet doors going in to see the original drawings you did of the kitchen. You NAILED IT. if anything, it’s even more gorgeous than the drawing!
makes me soo happy to see someone taking things apart to reuse instead of just demolishing everything.
Its great to follow your progress! Me and My husband have been renovating a house here in Alingsås, Sweden. My biggest tip for you and others that are taking down nailed in wood walls, broomstick+superstrong magnet = no more bending over to pick up nails!!! Its our best tool 😅
Yesssss thank you for that tip!!
Agree, what a wonderful idea!
Haha. Det måste jag testa!!
For the mini cottages, it might be nice to have the knobs on the top in case they have children it's harder to reach.
I love that you're being gentle and saving as much as you can while demo-ing.
I'm so invested in your home renovation journey. This is better than any show on HGTV! They need to get you a show ASAP!
Speak it into existence .Amen.
Maybe its rude to ask but i always wonder what your budget is. I love that you saving as much as you can but all the big things etc. Would be so interesting and helpful to know!
That would be interesting to know. Her parents helped her get the house/land, but she has not mentioned the rest.
You don’t want to know how many times I refreshed for this love your energy girl 🥰
Aww thank you so much!! 🥰
I am so happy to be watching somebody who's demoing an old house and wants to save so much of the original wood. It makes me so happy!
When you don’t have the bottom door for the refrigerator, the freezer is rly small and I own that type and it’s hard to fit everything.
I agree with this! I have the freezer on the bottom and love it. Also only one door for the fridge. The double door at my mom’s is a pain.
There is so much character in this house and you're saving it!!! Makes me like you even more!!!!
Oh my! Romeo could never put a torch to what you accomplished! Your a Wonder Woman! Lol! Your parents have to be so proud of you!
I love it! I love how careful you were doing the demolition. I'm so used to see TV programs and they DESTROY EVERYTHING.
I really aprecciate that you are trying to reuse and recicle everything you can!
I also like so much the style you are going for!
Thank you so much for the video!! ♥ I wish you good luck with all the process!!! ♥
MaCenna and this reno is all the Girl boss vibes we need in our lives; the vision, the muscles, the mom and daughter relationship. #legend
So exited to do some thrift type flips on things we have found in the house with my mum, so inspired by you! 🤍✨
Yay!!! So fun!
@@XOMaCenna Thank you so much for taking the time to like and reply to my comment, you honestly don’t know how much it means to me! 🤍
Hi
As a European it's kinda insane to see these HUGE American fridges 😂🤯
Same here in Asia. I guess it’s an American thing.
Then don't watch American reno shows. 🙄Geez.
Everything is bigger in Texas! Seriously tho, we don’t shop everyday for food. Too busy living!
Funny you say that because I'm lusting over a SMEG fridge at the moment! I live in a 1963 house and my new fridge has taken over the kitchen. I should have purchased a much smaller one.
Majority of american's fridges are not this big
Omg! I almost died when I saw that white and mixed metal oven. That’s the most beautiful oven I’ve ever seen 😍😍😍
I love your mom! The stove: “You would have to name her”😍 so cute!!
That toile wallpaper is so sweet! Also, I don’t know how costly they are, but the cute little colorful European appliances are fun. You could mix low end and high end like a Smeg fridge and then do a very simple, clean-lined stove. Or, you could look for old stoves. In an old apartment I had in college, I got a free tiny adorable old stove from the landlord. I agreed to clean it up and she let me put it in the apartment. It was gas, which never really breaks down.
Scary to see the size of those appliances compared to European standards 😅 Good work on the demo, it looks like a lot of work! And that original wallpaper is EVERYTHING!! ❤️ So happy to see you took the time to save it and will make something beautiful out of it
It's definitely interesting! I'm in America but when I was in Europe I was like "Everything is so small" lol
Everything bigger in Texas 😜
ONE TIP I have for you that we did when we had to replace some of our appliances, is to call around to different repair shops and ask them which brands they tend to have to do a lot of repairs on. Then don't buy those brands because you don't want stuff that always breaks down. I'm in Canada so maybe some of our appliances are made in different countries, but I called 4 different repair shops in the area and found out that Samsung and LG break a lot and it's hard to find the pieces to repair them. I loved those stoves at Fergusons, and I'm sure you would have no problems with them, and I also loved the quartz slab that you said looked warm. Now I want to update my kitchen so badly...lol. I'm loving your reno series and I've started watching your blog too. Your enthusiasm is infectious.
Oh MaCenna! That cream and chrome/brass stove was TO DIE FOR!!!! That's the most gorgeous appliance I've ever seen. Can't wait to watch your kitchen reno progress. You are, in fact, Wonder Woman!
I love that you keep referring to the bookshelves next to the fireplace as book ends 😄
When it comes to being out of town or at an Air BNB, I prefer electric stove tops. They’re simple and easy to cook on. Gas is fairly simple as well, but not everyone is comfortable with them.
I love seeing you demo by yourself! I’m learning so much from your process, and I’m inspired by your drive to get the cottages done.
Girl! You are a beast! I can’t believe you are doing all this demo all by yourself. I am so impressed.💪🏼
I really like that you are trying to reuse as much wood as possible!
Also, what color do you have in mind about the kitchen cabinets? I love the idea of an ashy blue, if it matches the whole aesthetic!
I love these videos ! You are great in researching everything instead of just buying what's most affordable, and your mother is a great help with her professional expertise !
Can we take a minute to appreciate how AMAZING MaCenna is?! I could not even begin to think I could do that. You are so inspiring!
What I love most of these videos is how happy and excited she is. Like literally she cannot stop smiling and its in the edge of laughs of excitement. That’s the best feeling and I’m so happy to see it 💕❤️
That white range is to die for!!!! #AGirlCanDream 😍
Love how you are doing so much on your own! So impressed and inspired by you. You go girl 💪
I’m so impressed with you and this demo work! You’ve been able to handle the hard stuff alone and still handle certain materials with great care. Bravo!
Your vision is so unique and special! Can’t wait to see the finished project!
For a unique stove, you might try to find someone who restores antique appliances. I was able to find a 1920’s Wedgewood in pre-restored but good working condition for $400.
Can’t believe how badass you are 😭😭😭🙌🏼
Omg thank you 😭
I’ve been traveling and am catching up on all your videos from the last few weeks. Can I just say that I absolutely love that you are being careful to save and reuse so much from the cottage?! The toile wallpaper and your love for it just takes the cake! I’ve always loved toile patterns! ❤️
Thank you for sharing how much work it is to renovate an old house. I did mine 5 years ago (and still working on it), and I have all these great memories of when I was making it my own. Wishing you all the best in this journey ❤️
Your innovation, your energy, your style...girl everything! 😍😍😍
Thank you so much 😘
I cant believe i saw this only 2 mins after you uploaded 😍 you’re such an inspiration
Watching you demo by yourself is honestly so inspiring! Who says it always needs to be big tall or strong men to get things done? You prove you can do anything you put your mind to. Haha i feel so accomplished for you when you demo things yourself ahah. Such a queen!
This series is great!! Also, I used to work for a property management company that rented out apartments. The glass top electric stoves were ruined pretty much every time someone moved out. I think the gas stoves are more durable and less prone to scratches.
You are amazing!!! Seriously, you are so inspiring for every woman out here. I thought I loved your channel before but I do even more so now. I am so excited about each and every video.
Thank you so much!!! 🥰
I love love love this series
It feels so good watching a "careful" demo like yours!!! With so much care and love. And plans to reuse those woods!!! Great job!!!!
Ahhh!! It's happening! I feel like so much has changed in the cottage recently! You are kicking butt. I love it.
The toile de jouy wallpaper is gorgeous, so happy you were able to save it 😍
That wallpaper would look adorable in a child's room with wainscoting.
Yes! I love love love that you saved some of that wallpaper! Even just a piece framed would be awesome and such a conversation piece!
This series is so fun to watch! Love watching the process and look forward to seeing what you choose for appliances and decor.
Hey, you should see if you can get 'escape to the chateau', she reuses all the old paper, you'd love it! Xx
LOVE THESE COTTAGE VIDEOS 💗 would it be too much to ask for a bathroom series too? Can’t wait to see tubs and vanities too!
Ooooo ok 🥰 🛀
My first home I purchased last February was totally destroyed during the freeze (I also live in Texas!), so I’m also going through a total remodel! The timing of your videos has been awesome because you’re giving me tons of ideas for floors, tiles, fixtures, etc! Trying to stay positive throughout the super difficult process of gutting and remodeling a home. Thanks for your content 💕
I cannot believe how much demo you did all by yourself!!! Absolutely amazing! Makes me feel like I could tackle some of the bigger projects I have...
hearing you pronunce Miele was really cute haha
Did not realize how tall your ceilings were but wow!!! I’m so excited to see the final outcome 😍😍😍
Omg right!!!!! That’s a 12’ ladder I’m on doing demo 😍 loved the ceilings where we first found the house
I love how with every step of this renovation, you are keeping to the style and appreciating the details of this home.
Love these videos, watching you conquer that house by yourself is so inspiring! And today was special because I love seeing your vision and your taste. ❤️ Go Macenna!
Omg was just scrolling for something to watch!!! So happy you posted this 🥰🥰
MaCenna, you are truly living my dream. Thank you for being such an inspiration and just giving all the modern women vibes. SO EXCITED TO SEE MORE
Yes. Same
Loving your renovation series
I love that you are not wasteful coz you are saving the trim and everything that are still usable. Congrats! Great job!
