Alex Horne: "Hey Rhod, would you like to be in the 7th series of 'Taskmaster'?" Rhod Gilbert: "Can I take the piss out of Greg the entire time?" Alex Horne: "Do whatever you want."
And this is the episode where I realized that the house is the Taskmaster's and the caravan is Alex's. Am I slow on the uptake, or was that clear to everyone but me until now?

I am so unreasonably upset at the unfairness of giving Phil double time but the same surface area against contestants who got four (or three technically lol) boards!
He got four times as much time as the others and didn't even use 35% of it. He could have used the time to come up with a better method than flinging strings of mayo at the board; for instance, he could afford the time to tie the same broomsticks and handles Rhod tried to tie and come up with a brush of sorts, which Rhod couldn't because he was in a hurry. His limitation wasn't lack of space, it was sticking to a barely-functional method.
@@alotofthings22 His method functioned better than the rest of their singular ones even if they did have more time. It was the cumulative score that screwed him. His method worked.
Since it was so close, I thought Phil should have gotten 2 points and everyone else 3, like how the points were split for the big/small team task, and how they have been for several other team tasks before. (And maybe Jess should have gotten 0 for not making a single circle before time ran out, though members of a team do typically all get the same score regardless of their individual contributions.)
Phil did the task better within the same time period. The 20 minutes thing objectively was not an advantage. He should have gotten the 5 points, instead of -5 points.
@@user-hg8jz6pp4n the 20 minutes was an advantage. The others had to plan and make circles in 5 minutes. Phil had 4 times as much time, had to make 4 times as many circle but only had to plan once just like the others

He would have to be way off target to hit alex. then there is still a bunch of stuff between the caravan wall and alex. and seeing how Rhod only pierced the caravan about 2 inches, He could have aimed straight at alex's location and have been fine
Yeah that was unfair. Every other "team" task usually gets split into 2 and 3 points. And Phil had the most actual circles. The others had mostly dots.

Spectacular it gets better every series, theres is always moments from previous that help it to stand out... "Hops" Drawing with GPS Camouflage Flip book To name some of my favourite previous tasks
The danger was slightly exaggerated. Rhod gave Alex specific instructions which he was obligated to follow, and Rhod threw the javelin through an open door, the only visible part of the caravan, minimizing the risk. He couldn’t have misaimed since he let it go close to the caravan entrance. Not even a freak accident would’ve been able to send it through the actual front portion of the caravan. The only scenario where he would’ve hit Alex would have been if Alex willfully ignored Rhod’s specific instructions, walked toward the door of the caravan just as Rhod was throwing it (since Rhod had a clear view through the door) and didn’t respond in time to dodge it. Not impossible, but pretty close to.
@@VideoGuy232 exactly, even if he had thrown it at the section of caravan where alex was sat it would have only gone through a few inches and the bin lid would have stopped it. the goggles where more incase the back of the caravan splintered off.

Nah, I'm good on the losers series. There's always one annoying one every series, and I'd prefer them not to ruin another. Just do a normal series where people vote or something; there's definitely enough funny people that would probably have great chemistry. Rhod finding new and amazing ways to torment Greg in the prize task never fails to astound me. I really thought he wouldn't be able to do it this time, but he pulled through.
I’ve been binge watching this show over the last few weeks or so and have genuinely started saying “genuinely” more instead of “literally”, and even catch myself saying “innit” on occasion. Brilliant
I adore this series, but I always hate how Phil Wang gets, er, shafted with points. I don't think it was fair that all of the other challengers got five points to his zero at that task, when in previous 4-against-1 tasks, it was usually either each person gets 1 point or the lone wolf gets 2 (i.e. Jon Richardson). It's tough rewatching this series knowing that Phil deserved better.
@@christianboehlefeld5168 Fair enough, but even so, the scales weren't as nearly unbalanced against the solo tasker as this one was against Phil. You can't even chalk this one up against Greg, either.
Phil makes a point. When they first start filming, none of them have met each other or Greg. They get riled up in the studio a lot but the tasks probably feel like regular days to them. It is hard to get excited or perform entertainingly and it is hard to imagine what everything will look like after editing.
I had it in my head that James always hated Rhod, but the further we get into the series the more I realize that they were absolutely fine until the extension task. Brutal
Alex was very excited for the forced perspective team task this episode because now it was finally his time to be “Big Alex Horne” but unfortunately... Phil Wang _crushed_ those dreams of his :)

It's amazing watching these literal stand up comedians absolutely fold under the pressure of tasks like "cheer up this man" when they are (as mentioned) literal stand up comics.
The sheer capriciousness of the scoring system... there's no rhyme or reason, it's all just Greg making stuff up. I LOVE this show so much... like 75 percent of the time it's 'who did the best wins', but the other quarter of the time someone is cheating, rules-lawyering or finding a loophole, only for Greg to have no discernable policy on how to deal with it.
Only having one target to make his circles on really screwed Phil, at that range there just isn't that much space to be able to make that many independent circles.
I know they had fun with the guys vs girls teams, but I think we missed out on the absolute chaos that would've been Jess and James as a team.

Greg shafting Phil Wang with the 0-5 judgement on the circles task. Haven't seen that much pain since Greg smashed Phil's confusing puzzle box.
Yeah, that made absolutely no sense. He came in second, he should have got 4 points!
31:30 the irony of james talking about leaving the city behind as sirens roar past the house lol
I thought that was hilarious 😂
The timing was magnificent!
The men’s group task is clearly FAKE and in no way believable. When Alex lifts up the flower pot and says hello to James, he replies. Clearly edited.
Oh hello Jeff, is that you? Cheer up!
cheer up, fiona
@@Anonymouse85 the joke must have gone over your head😂 it’s been a running gag throughout the series that James ignores Alex saying hello
@@CthulhuInc clearly missed the joke lads
@@fionadc Ah.... i... I guess i /woooshhhedddd myself there :P

Greg: I can't separate Jess and James
Alex: Well, they both got the same body language
I was just thinking about that 😂😂
There is absolutely nothing I look forward to more every week than the newest Taskmaster upload.
My thoughts exactly! It loads at 1pm for me I'm watching it by 1:02 then 43 minutes of joy followed by sadness that it's over, so quickly! How 'bout you?
Same here!
same
Genuinely surprising they let Rhod throw that spear, given the amount of helmet-wearing and other safety equipment in the other tasks 😱
He would have to be way off target to hit alex. then there is still a bunch of stuff between the caravan wall and alex. and seeing how Rhod only pierced the caravan about 2 inches, He could have aimed straight at alex's location and have been fine
Phil should've won some points for the circles task and nobody's talking about it
Been looking for this comment. He definitely deserved points, Greg did him dirty
They got 4 targets he got only one target and there's no room for more circles
I feel like he should've atleast split the points 2 for jess 3 for phil or something
my mum made the great point that his target should have been 4 times the area too.
Yeah that was unfair. Every other "team" task usually gets split into 2 and 3 points. And Phil had the most actual circles. The others had mostly dots.
“Like a fat hawk is it”
“He’s alright, I’ve let myself go”
This episode is gold FILLED.
So this is where the comment from season 9 comes from
"And I'll be watching that like a fat. Hawk."
Do you have a time stamp?

The real punchline is the card Greg had given to Alex predicting precisely this joke...
@@SquareNoggin not predicting precisely that joke, just a joke about Greg being fat which wasn't that hard to predict given the rest of the series
*came back to the end of the this EP after James was on Rhod's podcast*
apparently Greg and Rhod were pleading with Jess not to drop the hideous castle but she looked at Alex and he gave a nod
all cut out of the edit lmao
the thing has since been glued back together :'D
I noticed Rhod just immediately stand up from his seat in the corner of the screen and look genuinely upset. Then I rewind a bit and see Greg also has genuine surprised face.
Yeah I likewise came here after listening to the podcast. If you pause it right after she drops it. You can see genuine like shock and upset on Greg and Rhod’s faces. Phil, James & Kerry are also clearly surprised and concerned. And then Alex is in hysterics.
Same here. My favourite thing is that Alex was laughing while Rhod was in utter shock.
do you perhaps recall the title od the podcast? I can't seem to find it
The Ambulance driving by as James talks to Jeff about not worrying about the city life and enjoy the "Peaceful Holiday mountain hike away from the city" is brilliant

Hence my pavlovian response every Thursday when another Taskmaster episode airs.
Pause at 43:48 and 43:49, and you can see literally everyone is shocked beyond belief except for little Alex Horne. That absolute devil 😂
James Acaster is so quick witted it’s amazing
"My wife Nell" - amazing.

When Alex said "Do you wanna see Rhod tackle Jeff?" I was prepared to see him literally do that. Oh how I love this season.
I love how at the beginning of the show, you have absolutely no clue what the title means... and then it all comes together.
"This feels like a typo you just tried to style out."
Greg: *cuts to commercial*
Awww, since it was a gift Phil didn't get to do his famous haggle joke :(
neither did Rhod with his 2010 half-naked Greg Davies photo :(
Jess' white circles task is still one of the funniest things ever.
That and James' circle task
@YouDontKnowMe yes, as humor is subjective
Literally not.
The energy of Rhod is something no series before this could have prepared me for
Surely, James' worst gift was a series of cabbages?
has to be a named relative though and not the child of a friend. otherwise cabbages for sure
@@Inucat Yeah, that other kid was his friend's son. He was his father's son.
YES! A person of culture I see 🤩
HURRAY! All the WILTY fans gather round!
wasn't from a named relative though :P
The "paternal disappointment" interplay between Greg and James in this series is fucking hilarious.
I wonder if Alex ever thought of how much danger he’d be in with that spectacular task delivery one?
Watching this series, I’ve decided that it would probably be great fun to hang out with Jessica.
Also, I wasn’t sure if this series could top the one before, but so far it is.
Spectacular it gets better every series, theres is always moments from previous that help it to stand out...
"Hops"
Drawing with GPS
Camouflage
Flip book
To name some of my favourite previous tasks
Not sure that I’d ever fully recover from that.
Miranda - "I wonder if Alex ever thought of how much danger he’d be in with that spectacular task delivery one?"
That's not a question.
The Scene at 14:20 where the task is completed and Santa is losing steam, the second alex points at him and he gets a second wind, a big grin and just vibes even harder is genuinely my most favorite taskmaster moment
How is nobody talking about Jess dropping Greg's gift at the end
When I saw the ceramic candle holder, I had a feeling that it was going to be broken.
cuz most of us didn't watch to the end but thanks for the tip. i went back for it. worth it!
funniest part of the whole show.
Man I wish we could really watch that without the credits, I wonder what the reaction was of everyone afterwards. Jessica looked really shocked at Rhod's face
That's what I came here looking for! I wonder if the winner's actually take home the prizes or if they go back to the original owners.
42:18 James rubbing Phil’s back to console him was such a nice moment
As Taskmaster has had an all winners series I think they should have an all losers series as well.
They should have a series featuring the most annoying people ever on the show all wearing the hideous yellow onesie.
Nah, I'm good on the losers series. There's always one annoying one every series, and I'd prefer them not to ruin another.
Just do a normal series where people vote or something; there's definitely enough funny people that would probably have great chemistry.
I also love that tasks get just a little bit more insane whenever they've got some chemistry. That, and the banter is so much better.
Give me Lisa in this season, she's such a treat and this amazing mix of straight-arrow and wildcard.
Jessica and Josh would be a fantastic team, as would Tim Vine and Tim Key
Being from Texas and listening to them say “y’all” is the funniest thing 😂😂
Totally shook Greg.
I'm from Maryland so was weird when my aunt from North Carolina visited and said it a lot.
Southeast Texas?
Lol i dont really know why anyone wouldnt say "y'all." It just makes sense, but that might be because im from texas.
I liked when Alex tried to reply with we all: w'all! :)
@@saltytrey OMG I’m from SE Texas and say y’all all the time. It’s a super convenient word. But I watch enough shows like this and I pick up phrases that confuse other people.
I think we can establish that James is the production crew’s favorite this season hahaha
also that little James x Phil moment at 42:18 was adorbs
I love it when previous contestants have a cameo! It's always good to see Richard Osman
The "cheer up this man" task is one of my favorites, it really displays the different approaches one can have to the same task.
yknow (almost) every season i think how the cast could possibly be better but like theyve done it again absolutely in love with everyone on season seven
Rhod finding new and amazing ways to torment Greg in the prize task never fails to astound me. I really thought he wouldn't be able to do it this time, but he pulled through.
It is so hilarious that the task that probably literally required stand-up comedy got most people failed.
"Impress this mayor" vibes
I honestly love how Rod seemingly came on the show simply for the purpose of embarrassing his friend Greg for a whole season lmao
I've got to say, the cast for this season is the most chaotic and I absolutely love it.
I love Rhod's reaction to getting second. He's thinking "I could have KILLED Alex, and I get second???"
Idk why but I have a false memory of Rhod shouting "Second?! I threw a feckin' javelin at his head!"
Nothing good ever happens when Alex goes "all the information's on the task", everyone should be aware of that Jess lol
I’ve been binge watching this show over the last few weeks or so and have genuinely started saying “genuinely” more instead of “literally”, and even catch myself saying “innit” on occasion.
Brilliant
I am unreasonably amused by the uses of “innit” where “isn’t it” is in no way appropriate. (“I screwed that one up, innit.”)
It's quite easy to pick up some of the more useful british terms as an american, they flow naturally
Underrated last moment when Jess smashes the weird cat castle statue.
Died laughing at the look on her face when it broke!!
it made up for the anticlimax with the hanger game!
i was looking for this comment!!!!
No, Jon got 4 points, one for each correctly attributed task. Tim Vine only got 2 when no one guessed his pun.
@@christianboehlefeld5168 Fair enough, but even so, the scales weren't as nearly unbalanced against the solo tasker as this one was against Phil. You can't even chalk this one up against Greg, either.
Yo Phil Wang has been done so dirty, like it feels so brutal with the longer seasons
The brown guy contestant always seems to get the short end of the stick in this show.

Rewatching this episode makes me realize how much I’d love to see Jess and James team up more.
Phil makes a point. When they first start filming, none of them have met each other or Greg. They get riled up in the studio a lot but the tasks probably feel like regular days to them. It is hard to get excited or perform entertainingly and it is hard to imagine what everything will look like after editing.
Pretty sure the whole purpose of this unique Prize Task was to see if Phil could somehow creatively continue his running joke 😂
He may have haggled with his sister 😅
I was so disappointed that he didn't do it this time :'(
"Does it make you happy to make other people sad?"
He used to be a traffic warden. Nuff said.
I had it in my head that James always hated Rhod, but the further we get into the series the more I realize that they were absolutely fine until the extension task. Brutal
Yep same here, seeing them work together in team tasks was surprising
Alex was very excited for the forced perspective team task this episode because now it was finally his time to be “Big Alex Horne” but unfortunately...
Phil Wang _crushed_ those dreams of his :)
if Series 7 has taught us anything, Phil Wang is a MASTER of bartering
“I’ve got dodgy knees”
“Well that’s ok I’ll just squeeze them to cheer you up” 🤣😂🤣😂🤣
"That didn't work? Well, I've got a children's nursery song I know you'll love. Let's sing it together!"
Rhod and Greg's interactions are MAKING this series for me
Yo it's so good, like him and Roisin like it's so good seeing real pals interacting
This episode should've been called 'you do not get fingered'.
Personally I like "Fee Fi Fo Phil"
Hahahaha YES!! Nice one Lucy
43:48 is such a precious moment. Rhod jumped from his chair, Alex buckling over biting his fist and Greg just watching completely dumbfounded.

😂That has me in stitches lololol
Greg writing down every time James talks back to him "for later" is such a teacher thing of him to still be doing
Phil was really shafted on that target one. He crushed it.
It's amazing watching these literal stand up comedians absolutely fold under the pressure of tasks like "cheer up this man" when they are (as mentioned) literal stand up comics.
It has strong "impress this mayor" task vibes
I just saw Rhod and James on Rhod’s Froth podcast talking about Jessica breaking the ceramic cat thing. Hilarious!
Me too, they cut pretty much everything from this episode though! I didn't even know she asked the audience if she should smash it
Ok, but in the size task the women had size changing props, I think they should have won.
Agreed
and the men used green screen which is cheating imo
Yeah I thought they got shafted there. Much more clever way to manage the task.
The men looked smaller and bigger that's the task
Same, they had the more creative approach
"Cheer up Geoff!" - The most brilliantly Welsh way to complete that task.
Acaster won me over with 'My wife, Nell.'
Now that I know the backstory behind Jessica Knappett dropping that gift at the end, I wanna see it all in an extended clip on this channel!
Do tell?
