In this Broadcast Award-winning, BAFTA and Emmy Award-nominated entertainment show, Taskmaster tyrant Greg Davies (Man Down, Cuckoo), with the help of his loyal assistant Alex Horne (The Horne Section and the show’s creator), sets out to test the wiles, wit and wisdom of five hyper-competitive comedians.
Comedians that have risked life, limb, and dignity in the hope of making the Taskmaster proud so far include: Frank Skinner (The Frank Skinner Show), Mel Giedroyc (The Great British Bake Off), Romesh Ranganathan (Asian Provocateur), Hugh Dennis (Outnumbered), Sally Phillips (Bridget Jones’ Diary), Rose Matafeo (Edinburgh Comedy Award Winner 2018), and Russell Howard (The Russell Howard Hour). Unaware of what awaits them in each wax-sealed envelope, only one competitor can become the victorious owner of His Royal Task-ness’ golden head and be crowned the next Taskmaster Champion.

@@kairos-049 You think so? He made this show, and put himself into a role where he is constantly being humiliated. He has told contestants they can't do things before, plenty of times, but never when what they want is to humiliate him. It might be hard to contemplate, but there's a very real chance that he enjoys this treatment.
When I have kids, they'll ask me, "Daddy, can you make sure there are no monsters in the closet?" And I'll tell them, "There's no such things as monsters. They aren't in your closet. Go to sleep."
One day, they'll see this episode, and ask me, "Daddy, can you make sure there are no Welshmen in the closet?" And I cannot in good conscience tell them no.
The chances that a Welshman is in your closet are low...
...but never zero.
my dad once did it to my sister (not his daughter, when he started dating her mom - not my mom...). He waited, under her bed. For about 2 hours. We all thought he went out for something… Then, when she almost fell asleep, he pushed on the bed from beneath, while making a noise like some wild beast. She looked under the bed for 2 years after that xD
Better warn the kids about holes in the woods too.
Never know what might come poking out of them.
Might be pants on a stick, might be a Kill Bill outfit, might be a bare-assed Englishman.
😂😂😂
I'll be asking my kids if there's a welshman in my closet.
I can no get over Phil's line "what happened to the old castle?"
In fact, the city was named after the old castle... the current castle in Newcastle is about 900 years old, but before that there was an old one in the same place.. and that old one was called the "new" castle when it was built.
also his "I should have a creepier face" when scored so low was so funny
3:43
@@yourmum69_420 It's pretty amazing to imagine someone so old to us was brand new to someone once. I mean of course that's true, factually speaking, but to try to put yourself in their shoes and see the castle as something new is kind of awesome
@@anotherfreakingaccount it's just that words ar relative.
Big, small, old, new. Greenland... covered in ice now. Old greenland wasn't as much. new york was new amsterdam, both were actually duplicates, copies. Amsterdam means dam near amstel (amstelredam)... New amsterdam had no amstel river (names are all kind of bonkers). Amstel means dry/solid hill near river (but it became name of the river). We lose concept of entire words, for many 'new' just becomes a name. Springfield is similar. They tend to be cities by now. not bloomy fields.

James' reference to Frank Skinner's boulder task will always be a top tier taskmaster moment
Would you please elaborate? Just discovered this show. Thanks
Guillermo Senties. Ofc! David said most of it! A man asked him while on the train (this is series 1 episode 5 “little denim shorts”) what he had with him. Frank replied, “A Boulder.” The man then asked, “Is that like a big rock?” and Frank, thinking that that was the definition he was grasping for, nodded.
Very underrated
That and kicking himself at the end "the first man on the moon!"
Thank you! I always thought that's what James was referencing, and I felt he didn't get enough credit for it!
Glad to know that Greg keeps his Little Alex Horne in a harness and not a collar. The harness lets him move around much more safely, like when he does the little jig. Good to know the Taskmaster is ethical!
it's actually a Health and Safety requirement, otherwise it's considered cruelty and the show could get fined.
Safe, sane and consensual! Just wondering what safeword Alex has.
I have spent about six minutes trying to think what possible safewords these characters could have in the context of the show. What possible phrase could Alex utter that wouldn't be completely plausible in some bizarre situation with the Taskmaster? This is a difficult question!

I think that's the question we have all been asking ourselves when it comes to Rhod in this season (or Rhod in general)
Rhod was just trying to get the last bits of Liza’s cake out from inside Alex. Honestly, what a bro
Because they loiter if you don't tell them it's closed. Duh.
I feel that Handel's "Water Music" would have been more apposite than Vivaldi's "Gloria" for that task.
When I'm feeling down and as if there isn't much left to enjoy, I go back to this episode. Rhod should be on all TM episodes. I don't know if Alex could handle it, tho.
I love how Jessica is always amazed at EVERYTHING on this show. Air horns, retired traffic cops, musicians who can play instruments, etc.
I don't know how Phil managed to somehow look less naked when he took the outfit off, but he managed it.
I bet Mel would have loved the second task - so many wax seals to collect :D
I'm honestly relieved not to be the only one who thought of Mel during that segment?
Mel would have added a full minute to her time just from putting all the seals in her pocket. Hugh would argue that his time technically started when he opened the last envelope, and not the first envelope. And i could imagine Noel just screaming randomly in the beginning and alex just stops time there 😂
Yes, thought of Mel too ~

And Rhod's musician's like: I play 12 out of the 16 instruments standing around and he makes me shake the matchbox...
I have to believe that Alex genuinely worried about what Rhod would do for every task. I mean he’s nearly killed Alex once and had Alex out of at least some of his clothes thrice.
And after last week’s snooze of a prize task, nearly everyone came to play. That shirt that Kerry brought in was genuinely gross.
If you look at the blue book bit it's one of the only times EVER that Little Alex gave a contestant a hint. I think he scared
😂
There an outtake from this season where Greg/Kerry (can't remember) comments that Rhod's goal for every task seems to be to get Alex to take his trousers off. Someone chimes in that Alex's pants (underwear) are always pink/long johns and Greg proceeds to order Alex to show them what he's wearing in the studio. Indeed, his pants are pink (or possibly long johns). My confusion of over pink/long johns stems from the fact that there's been more than one discussion over Alex's pants across seasons.
@@nommyyt It would seem that's not an outtake - it's in this episode.
@@anarchodin Thanks for the correction! Haha it's been a while since I've seen this episode and was distracted while rewatching it. I've always loved that bit though.
Nic Q the pink pants bit is in this episode, but the bit where Greg demands to be shown is an outtake from the “excite Alex” task because you can see his long Johns while Rhod is pouring coffee on him and Greg asks about them afterwards.

Not gonna lie, I was hoping somebody was gonna scream with frustration after getting the second or third task page in that one, and unknowingly win before they even read the whole message
I was genuinely surprised that didn't happen.
I think it’s possible that you had to finish all the parts of the task (finding all the envelopes) before any scream counted because it is structured in a certain order.
@@stephman3154 I can’t remember when it was but there was one task where a contestant guessed and did the task before opening the envelope. He got a time of 0 so I assume the screamers time would end as soon as they read the last envelope

I had just taken a big sip of tea when James was fretting about "Armstrong" and genuinely had to hold my mouth so I didn't spew it all out on my computer when he said, "I was going to Lance somebody!"
Jaycaster's tune would be right at home on an early They Might Be Giants album.
Right after triangle man and birdhouse. Lol
Rhod hiding in the closest may be my favorite moment of this show
40:47 the sheer panic from james
Came here as an Acaster fanboy but was genuinely blown away by Rhod's composition. What a work of art, haha.
All 30 seconds? Oh wait... Yeah. Anyone can do more with more...
Over Your Shoulder is an instant classic. Like its straight outta 2016.
Was genuinely surprised that the toothless goon didn't turn out to be Greg.
Taskmaster turned Rhod Gilbert from "that guy who sometimes appears on Would I Lie To you? and 8 out of ten cats does Countdown" into one of my favorite human beings on the planet!
this show made me despise him, he's mean spirited.
oh god. What about him made you love him? The fact he takes every opportunity to get Alex extremely uncomfortable and borderline abuses him, that being a psychopath is his only trick, or the fact he milks his friendship with Greg to infinity?
@teodorasvet4597 , it's Alex's show, he puts himself on the line a lot. If he didn't think it's appropriate, it wouldn't happen. It's funny to the audience, so it makes his show successful.
Don't skip on Greg and Alex kissing out of nowhere in earlier episodes, too. Absolutely no one would make Alex do it, but himself, I assure you.
And let the man play jokes on his old friend, it doesn't matter. No one else could do it.
You're talking this too close to heart for no rational reason.
"I hope you'll take this in the spirit that it's intended, Jess, but sometimes watching you is like watching an episode of Sesame Street."
That line killed me, I had to pause it to laugh for at least a full minute.
Genuinely the sweetest portrayal of a BDSM relationship on the airwaves today.
Alex is defo switch
💀 Lmao, Rhod is definitely the most deranged and sweet dom.
The ending of Rhod's song was fantastic. I genuinely howled with laughter :-)
When Kerry was counting down for her song, I was looking away. I was amazed as the song began to play. It turned out that an ad had started at that very moment and was playing ‘Return of the Mack’...
I half expected Wang to say "the creepy part was the guy made me buy it from him... so I haggled it"
When Jess said "Victorian Christmas cards" I knew exactly what was coming! 😂 everyone's reactions were hilarious
When the first S was revealed, I screamed. I'm fully aware that I'm not taking part in the tasks, and it scared my pets. This show is doing weird things to me.
Oh, and obligatory "this better not awaken anything in me" at Phil's ever prominent Wang.
I played along with the final task haha
@@mylatahiri2572 I guessed who but didn't do the movement. Didn't know Sleep either.
I get very invested as well, definitely a person-who-yells-at-the-tv move
I also play along, sometimes instinctively (like with the scream), but sometimes I pause the video to come up with a hypothetical plan before I watch the rest of the task
I recognize that Community reference.
I religiously wait at my computer every Thursday morning to see the new task master episodes being uploaded. I very much appreciate this show and the incredible mind that composed the idea and drives the narrative of the show.
