Honestly there’s no rpg out the has hit the right spot for me just yet in all my years of playing games. Some have come close but I’m still waiting on the perfect one for me.
Inevitably because this platform will be tied to the PS4’s history as well this machine will have a massive lineup of accessible jrpgs in physical form by the time that this generation is over. I think it’s a good idea to have a PlayStation and a switch because you can play a lot of the other games that come out on switch, but if they come out on both platforms, you can get the more powerful version of the game or at least a version that probably plays a bit better on the home Console. Great list of options here, just a ton to work with! Thanks Jordan! 🎉
@@marlowemichaelson1366 This only really applies to Nintendo first party games that rarely go on sale, all other games are on sale all the time. I have massive wishlists on both systems and on Steam and I always wait for the best price drop so I have a good feeling about comparing sales on those systems, I look up daily.
Monochrome mobius is a fantastic turn based JRPG set as a prequel to the Utawarerumono game series. its baout 40-50 hours, an easy platinum, and requires no knowledge of the Utawarerumono series to play it
You already had my RUclips heart before this point, what with all your amazing retro gaming work, but you had it again when you went; "Go play ALUNDRA!" as it was supposed to be the most natural thing in the world for someone to do ❤ Redently managed to reacquire Alundra, complete in box in a pristine state (map included) for less than €90, which I am very happy with! 😊
True but PS5 having both backwards compatibility with PS4 (often with updated graphics) and a lot of the older catalogue through PS Plus is just on another level
19:31 Glad to see somebody else mention Monochrome Mobius's lack of Switch version. That's not down to NISA, it's down to the developer (AQUAPLUS) whom have never properly supported the Switch since it came out (for reasons not publically known). It's ridiculous considering their titles are a perfect fit for both Switch and the PS5. This will change considering they can no longer rely on Steam nor PlayStation to approve all their titles and/or sell enough to be worth it.
I suspect NISA are hoping for double dippers. Get the PS5 version out first, then the Switch version later. I think If they released at the same time nobody would have paid attention to the PS5 version.
I really like the RPG scene on the PS5. Not only do you have a great selection of native titles for the system, but you also get the advantage of backwards compatibility with PS4 games (and they oftentimes have performance or visual upgrades over that system when playing on the PS5). I do have to say, one game I'm surprised you didn't mention was Dusk Diver 2. I know you're a fan of the original (I purchased the original based on your review of it), and the PS5 does have a native version of the sequel for the console. I know because, I can look across the room and see it sitting on my shelf! ;) Oh, and before I forget, here's an emoji for you (I'm limited because I'm just using the native one in RUclips on PC) 🔱
FF16 & FF7 pt 2 are basically the sole reasons I bought a PS5. Thanks for this video! Didn't realize how many JRPGs were available! My backlog is massive, but it's nice to know there's a decent catalog available on my PS5 for stuff my Switch can't handle well.
Thanks Jordan! I don't own a PS5, but I have the PS4 versions of a few of these. While I greatly prefer my Switch these days, as an RPG player I've always loved Playstation, and there are still plenty of games that don't come to Switch. FromSoft's Souls games ARE JRPGs, they just evolved from a different branch of games - specifically ancient dungeon crawlers like the Wizardry games. If anyone reading this has played Wizardry, they should know that that From's "tough but fair" style is far more forgiving than Wizardry's "bad trap RNG on Level 5, good luck ever recovering your party" style. I think the problem is that, when they first started to get popular, the term JRPG was almost a slur to Western game journalists; they wanted to talk about Demon's Souls and later Dark Souls, but most people would have just ignored anything about "another boring JRPG." So a lot of focus was put on how DIFFERENT some of the features seem, rather than on the obvious core features that tie it firmly to the JRPG lineage. Just some random thoughts on the subject.
So what’s the deal with physical PS5 games? Is everything on the actual disk? Can I install it without an internet connection? I’d like to get a few games here but I know today’s discs are essentially a way to activate something online. Anyone know?
You should of put "physical releases only" in the title because there are way more than 44 JRPGs with native PS5 versions, I have 91 PS5 JRPGs and those are just the ones I have on my PSN account and that doesn't even include the thousands of PS4 JRPGs you can play on PS5, by definition the PS5 was a JRPG machine the day it released but now it's even more so
It's got a good lineup but I'd say it's far better as a western rpg machine instead. JRPG's tend to be beat played on a handheld if they're not action based.
I love FF but after seven hours I put sixteen down really did not enjoy it cut scenes drove me mad so so long seven remake was amazing as I'm sure rebirth will be

Nomura is whacky....but the full extent of his creative craziness is something we can't even fathom.
Thing is the projects he is involved with tend to bear his markings as it were. I have owned a PS5 since day one, but honestly i spend way more time playing games on my Switch. Especially JRPGs. Sony censors way too much these days, they are the sole reason Senran Kagura does not exist anymore. And I still have not forgoven them for that. I do still from time to time pick up a new PS5 jrpg though. There are some JRPGs on PS5 that are exclusive to the console.

I say towards the end of the PS5 run, it will be a JRPG machine. But right now the Switch is the undisputed king of JRPG no questions asked.
Switch will be hard to beat with all of the rpg remakes and collections it has now. Prinny classics is just one small example.
Still think the pc is the undisputed champion not switch. Just more of them are on the pc.
But the switch being a handheld has really crappy and dated hardware, the sacrifices to both quality and performance just aren't worth it
It's alright for the older games but the hardware is just not in the same ballpark

The problem with the ps5 is the fact that you need to install every single game. It also makes it pointless to own it physically since it essentially not plug-and-play. You have to be smart managing storage and erasing games to play others. Very annoying
Installing is still way faster than downloading and installing, it hardly makes physical copies worthless.
Most JRPGs don't take up much room, hell even FF14 is ~ 50GB, I never found space an issue however if you juggle a lot of games at once and/or play a lot of western AAA titles, yeah, it'll fill up.
What about all those backwards compatible jrpgs.
Great video ❤
4:56 Crisis Core was originally directed by Hajime Tabata and written by Kazushige Nojima and Sachie Hirano.
Tetsuya Nomura isn't the only employee at Square Enix and half the stuff he gets blamed for he had nothing to do with. Nomura didn't write Final Fantasy XIII,he didn't write Stanger of Paradise, he didn't write The 3rd Birthday,he didn't write The Bouncer,he didn't write Mushashi Samurai Legend and he didn't write Dirge of Cerberus.
Heck even for games and movies he directed he either didn't write or cowrote and he hasn't been the sole director of most of his projects. Thing is the projects he is involved with tend to bear his markings as it were. Back in the day this was largely positive possibly because he was kept in line better with people actually saying no to him or perhaps his worst excesses had not fully come to fruition but its different since Sakaguchi left. Seems very much a `wouldnt it be cool` artist someone you want input from and good for short term creative work but not someone you want to be putting stuff together, refining and polishing or managing things.

No, just 1 link at the beginning is fine. The website should know where you came from. Thanks dude!
Hey Jordan, can you make a new video update for PAL switch/ps5 exclusives either here or on SwitchWatch or Physical Paradise?
Will do eventually
Thanks trying out a few now especially tem tem

I have owned a PS5 since day one, but honestly i spend way more time playing games on my Switch. Especially JRPGs. Sony censors way too much these days, they are the sole reason Senran Kagura does not exist anymore. And I still have not forgoven them for that. I do still from time to time pick up a new PS5 jrpg though. There are some JRPGs on PS5 that are exclusive to the console.
I'm surprised it killed of Senran Kagura. I'm pretty sure it would sell 10x better on the Switch anyways.
