BLUE HOURS - SONY A7III | CINEMATIC SHORT FILM

- Blue hour is known as the timeless moment just before sunrise or right after sunset. A moment between light and darkness, a time when the world is quiet, the time slows and magic appears…
Blue Hour is Lucas’s newest passion short film about a journey through the time of Eleonora, a 21-year old former dancer who has just started over dancing after a bad injury happened 2 years ago, out of a need to rediscover her identity. For Eleonora dancing isn't just a sport, it's a way to connect with herself and mentally recharge among the waves. It is also an experience of aesthetic pleasure, it wears you out but reconstructs you, it is pure freedom.
With Lucas’s cinematic vision and Eleonora’s choreography, we created a video that portrays the need to escape, the need to be alone even for an instant, and away from our invasive and self-congratulatory modern society.
Cinematography by: Luca Del Vigo
Choreography and dance by: Eleonora Piana

Wow, I did not know what I was clicking on, but I am glad I did. Beautiful.
This was incredible Luca ! Would love to see you do behind the scenes breakdowns as well. The lighting and grading is out of this world.

what a bloody masterpiece
Technical strength aside, it was also beautiful. But you really elevated the look and feel of the footage. Amazing.
This was so good. Conveyed a lot of emotion without saying much. It was smart to have minimal dialogue and focus production value elsewhere. Beautiful shot and colored.
I need a lighting breakdown 🤧. Those indoor shots looked too good
Stunning! Love the jumping between these two creative worlds. Visually beautiful story telling.
Really appreciate this observation from you man! Thanks for the beautiful words 😊
Forget about the camera. The storytelling is excellent! I really liked that. The camera did capture a great image but even if it would have been shot with a lessor camera I would still have been blown away by the creative story.
Really appreciate this! Thanks so much for your feedback and the support!
This is best Sony a7iii footage I’ve seen!
Beautifully told story. Excellent job my friend!

Great work man! I was just wondering, what lens and lights did you use for the shot at 1:06?

Hi bro. very beautiful and high quality work! you're a big lad! is it a simple a7III? what kind of optics? did you use any filters? maybe tiffen black promist or glimmerglas? what profile is it on s-log2, s-log3, HLG?
Hey Roman! That’s nice to hear, thank you! I shot this completely with the Sony A7III and the Tamron 28-75. I used picture profile Slog2 and some effects from my film pack you can find here: payhip.com/b/ABS0K

What did you use to light, just natural lighting?
Hey Walter!! Thank you so much dude! The Dancing part was shoot obviously at blue hours and so with natural light! But on the piano scene I’ve used a video light! 🤟🏻

No way I have the same camera and 24mm gmaster lens Amy footage isn’t nearly this wonderful
beautiful ! what lens did you use for this work ?
Thanks! I used a tamron 28-75mm
Hi There, I am currently struggling to get the look you somehow achieved. I was wondering as a 8-bit camera what picture profile did you use? I usually use Slog-2. This look is just fantastic, also what lense did you use? Thanks!

amazing !!!
timeline resolution bro?
fucking sick!!!!! such a cool film loved it
Excellent work!
Thank you so much! What’s your favorite scene?
@@lucadelvigo It may seem kind of basic, but the transition from gold to blue using the eyes opening and closing inspired me to "admire and aquire" that for a project. The color grade in both scenes is on point. The halation and haze used in the piano scenes...post or with Black Mist/Cinebloom filters?
@@brianzig thank you for your kindness Brian! For the haze I used a smoke machine and I also used some of creative assets I created and that are now available on my shop! Check this out 😊 payhip.com/b/ABS0K
Actually, I see in the comments below the link to your assets pack...Dreamy Haze FX is included...excellent. Bookmarked and saved to buy when needed for future projects! I use the Tiffen and CineBloom filters, but there are times that I don't want to burn it in and prefer to add it in post. I use another plugin currently for that, but I prefer your look! Also, subscribed and following on Insta. Looking forward to seeing future content.
@@brianzig awesome!! That’s nice to hear 😊 if you are really interested, I highly suggest you to invest in now as this is a lifetime product so once you buy you can use it whenever you want for all life 👍🏼
did you use mist filter in the blue hour?
this looks amazing!!! what lens did you use?
I used a Tamron 28-75mm for the whole project 😊
@@lucadelvigo thank you for your quick response! i’m 17, new to filmmaking, so i have been looking around. i have a sony a7iii too, but i can’t seem to use it as cinematically as you do, lol!! do you have any advice?

@@lucadelvigo I have a A7III and A7SIII. What amazing cameras. I love filming on them. Did you shoot this in Slog2?
@@heynow2880 oh woww the Sony A7SIII it’s such a beast! Yeah I’ve first started shooting in Cine4 but then lately I’ve been testing and playing with Slog2 and so far I love it! I’ve made some little tweaks around with the setting and that’s it 😊
@@lucadelvigo yeah both great profiles
@@heynow2880 For sure!
what is the piano's song please ? the video is amazing!
Bro these handheld shots are so clean and not shaky. I stg with my a7iii always looks shaky! Any tips?
If you go handheld then I recommend you to build a more heavy rig setup, so that way you compensate with the stabilisation
@@lucadelvigo was the blue shots gimbal?
Did you use manual or auto focus?
Amazing , what is the lens you use for ?
Thanks! I used tamron 28-75mm
cant wait to shoot something like this
💪🏼💪🏼
I would love to know how you shoot. I have a sony a6600 it's an APSC but should be in the same kind off league with the Sony A7iii. But my images are no where near you amazing style. I am so curious.
Hey loved this video ... I have a shoot coming up soon in blue hour as well. What pictures profile did you used and what was your iso level?
Hey! Thank you for the words!
I’ve used the Slog2 picture profile for get the most dynamic range as possible and then I kept my WB at daylight mode. About the ISO is something you have to go accordingly to the weather and time of the blue hour. Find a balance, not too low and not too high.
@@lucadelvigothank you so much for replying and for the exposure at what zebra level did you put it on ?

@@olivermoll-privat2065 thanks 🙏🏼
awesome!! lenses used pls??
Thanks! Tamron 28-75mm lens
What lens did you use please ?
Tamron 28-75mm
I have the same set up a7iii with tamron 28-75mm, i have used for 1st time slog2 in a gym lights , iso 800 shutter speed 125 aperture 2.8 amd i hade noise ... what i have to do ???
Camera isn’t everything! To avoid possible noise with an 8-bit camera you have to learn and study lighting! That will definitely help you avoid this
@@lucadelvigo it was enough lights and exposure correctly with false colors .. do you think i have rise the iso from 800 to 2500 or more ?
@@worldpassport4759 don’t be scared to pull the iso higher, but just don’t over do it!
im planning to buy a lens for video making purpose. can you suggest one to me? good if its not too expensive.
Depend on what you want to shoot
@@lucadelvigo music videos and RUclips videos for people
Which is better ? 35mm 1.8 Sony or 35mm Sigma 1.4 DG DN?
@@fossilxo8625 I will say 35mm sony
@@lucadelvigo ty and how is 28-75mm 2.8 tamron? for video?
What objective did you use?
Please a video with your picture setttings
What lense was this and pp? I can never get this with my A7iii
I used a Tamron 28-75mm lens and shot in Slog2. But that’s not enough to get a a good result…there are many factors involved, such as lights, story, and a good knowledge of color grade
@@lucadelvigo I understand that, I shoot on fx3 now and was just wondering how you got something this clear off of a 8 bit camera, especially in the exterior where it looks like it was the end of the day. Did you have extra lights?
@@saycheesealex2726 When you work with 8 bit is important to use light and shadow at its finest, with right exposure. If you check my Instagram I also post a video with the before and after of this this short film. For the exterior scenes as you may notice was shot at blue hours so just right before get night
@@saycheesealex2726 what do you mean for extra lights? For the interior I used only 1 key light with a large soft box and the practical light available in the house
@@lucadelvigo I love it. I love everything about it. Blue hour is my favorite time to shoot scenes. Keep doing what you’re doing my guy. I can’t wait to see more of your work
You shoot on slog day and night all video?
Yes always on slog 2 👍🏼
@@lucadelvigo what are your slog 2 settings?
What picture profile did you use
Slog2 with my Luts
Lense?
Adobe Premiere?
Yes!
So… what was the story here? Please educate me.
A story, to me at least, requires a conflict, a character arc, a plot and a resolution of said conflict based on the need/wants of the character(s). Even a short film needs these elements.
Please explain to me why this is a film and not simply video clips randomly arranged?
I think it’s pretentious to call this a film. In my view it is not.
I think it’s pretentious to say that’s the only way to tell a story..
@@Mfrizzzel1 I stated very clearly, that to me, a story requires a conflict, a character arc, a plot and a resolution. Take any fairly tale from any country in the world, and they all have these elements in common. You can make a short story or a long story, but you still need basic elements, at least some kind of a conflict, someone that wants something, how or what depends on the your scale and scope. The above video consists of scenes, but it's not a story in any meaningful sense. Or if there is a hidden story here, please let me know what it is. Who is the character and what does she want or need? Even such basic questions are not answered.
Stories can be interpreted by how someone wants so therefore it’s subjective. If you see no story that’s fine. I see a woman having an internal struggle with not being able to dance like she used to, while simultaneously yearning her past. I don’t need a resolution to this.
i feel slow motion of dance shots could have been better
