  • Hey friends, today I've got another requested video - a beginners guide for niche fragrances. These are niche (and indie) fragrances that you should smell as you get into niche for the first time. They're generally not super challenging but do give you something different than what you'll find on the designer side. As always thanks for watching!

I am one of those people who think Baccarat Rouge 540 is overhyped. I am also relatively new at niche fragrances. But when I smelled Grand Soir from MFK I was in heaven. I think that one is the masterpiece in the whole house. So it was one of my first buys.

I have been watching your channel a ton, and I have to admit, I really love the "format" that you have a tiny thumbnail of the bottle and the name of each perfume on the bottom left. I'm definitely missing that from your latest content, because sometimes I try to figure out (or just remember) which one you're talking about and I have to skip backwards at least once or twice in a video.
Maybe I'm a minority, but that's my only 'constructive' feedback. Otherwise, I'm very appreciative of your content and have bought a lot of stuff from your influence/guidance.
    Thank you Ash!

I dove into niche hard. I started with Tuscan Leather, Tobacco Vanille and Harod and I've never looked back. LDDM is awesome! I've recently got into middle Eastern Oud which was probably the ones that took me a while to get into. BTW I consider Dior Maison Christian's line as niche quality. Not a fan of BKR540. An excellent rationalization in the intro. Although the hay and tobacco in Chergui really does remind me of the hay and tobacco in D&G's Intenso. Not initially, but certainly in the drydown. Some great recommendations Ash. Might throw in Vetiver Extraordinaire from FM, Killian's Back to Black and Santal Majuscule from Serge Lutens. 👍

Interesting list. I started my niche step with these 3 frags:
1: Creeds Aventus (I think this is what most beginners start with).
    2: PDM Layton
3: Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille (I didn’t get Tuscan Leather or Oud Wood since after sampling those, it seemed too much for me.)
As for the Amouage line, I think Reflection man would’ve been much more relevant since that’s the scent I hear most about. Most of the Amouage line smells quite nice 👍

    • @Q_N-
      @Q_N- 2 года назад +1

Hey JL, I’ve owned Layton and TV for 2+ years now. I’m onto my 2nd bottle of Layton, that should give you an idea of just how incredible the scent is. I’m down to half on my bottle of TV. Both scents are for cool to colder weather, but I’ve noticed Layton does well in spring/summer situations as well. If you’re planning to buy the 3 you mentioned, I’d say stick Elysium on the bottom of your list. Elysium is a great scent, but it isn’t anything mind blowing if you’ve already gotten your nose on Aventus 👍 Also, between Layton and TV, I’d go for Layton as the first bottle to buy.

I had Creed Aventus years ago and I loved it. But, I just got a bottle yesterday and it doesn't last an hour. It used to last almost all day. I think that I got a bad batch.

Aventus creates nose fatigue more than any other fragrance I own. Isolate your senses with a Covid mask for a bit or smell your own body odor then go back to where you sprayed.

Xerjoff should be on anyone's list as well because of their affordable and customizable sample pack. Not many niche brands do it nowadays.

Niche just means much more expensive than average, and therefore higher quality ingredients, typically higher in natural ingredients. Simple as that.

Ash, I simply can't stand L'Air du Desert Marocain. I totally admire the artistic side of the composition, but I simply can't imagine any situation on which a PERSON would actually smell nice with that scent. Apart from that, I'd add Reflection Man to the list.

Every designer has a "private line" of more expensive luxury fragrances. Does that make them actual "niche" or still designer? I'd go with the latter because why blur the lines so much.

Ash, you’ve clearly left off the most obvious frag... Secretions Magnifiques! Perhaps it’s considered more indie than niche. It’s the perfect fragrance for when you want to end a romantic relationship but you would prefer that the other person do the ending for you.

The term "designer" is the problem, not "niche". Just call it mainstream/mass appeal. They are easily likeable, hence they can be mass produced and therefore are cheap, albeit their quality is decent.
A better way to discern between fragrance production types than designer/niche would be something like mainstream/niche/garbage. But probably it would be better to go with more than one dimension, since you also pay for the brand.

Safest beginner Niche fragrances that smell incredible are from Creed and Parfums de Marly.
