- Hey friends, today I've got another requested video - a beginners guide for niche fragrances. These are niche (and indie) fragrances that you should smell as you get into niche for the first time. They're generally not super challenging but do give you something different than what you'll find on the designer side. As always thanks for watching!

I would add Reflection Man to that list.
I own it and do love it, but that's a designer type fragrance for niche money. I got it through sale and I think it's the most overpriced fragrance in my collection.
DELICIOUS
Reflection man is a 10
Love it but instant crush is cheaper and gets more compliments. I do like reflection more tho. Fragrance world is weird
Thinking back this is the best video you’ve ever done. One of the best perspectives on fragrance in the medium. Well done Ash!
I am one of those people who think Baccarat Rouge 540 is overhyped. I am also relatively new at niche fragrances. But when I smelled Grand Soir from MFK I was in heaven. I think that one is the masterpiece in the whole house. So it was one of my first buys.
Great video as usual. Thank you for continuing to produce great content.
I would love to see a "Top 10 most challenging fragrances" video next.
You’ve been on a nice run last few days! Great fragrances & great choices! Peace & Blessings to you!
I love Serge Lutens Chergui , The Leather of Russia note is amazing 😊. Thanks again Gents Scents !!
Probably the best list for niche fragances I've ever seen.
I have been watching your channel a ton, and I have to admit, I really love the "format" that you have a tiny thumbnail of the bottle and the name of each perfume on the bottom left. I'm definitely missing that from your latest content, because sometimes I try to figure out (or just remember) which one you're talking about and I have to skip backwards at least once or twice in a video.
Maybe I'm a minority, but that's my only 'constructive' feedback. Otherwise, I'm very appreciative of your content and have bought a lot of stuff from your influence/guidance.
Thank you Ash!
Nishane Hacivat, some Acqua di Parma, and many of Parfums de Marly fragrances are great for beginners and especially for a safe blind buy.
Great picks. Keep doing great videos
Wow I was just thinking about this topic and your video came in the perfect time. It's as if you read my mind..Great video Ashton 😄😄
Thanks for the video. Thanks for listening to us, your viewers
Awesome Video as always!
I dove into niche hard. I started with Tuscan Leather, Tobacco Vanille and Harod and I've never looked back. LDDM is awesome! I've recently got into middle Eastern Oud which was probably the ones that took me a while to get into. BTW I consider Dior Maison Christian's line as niche quality. Not a fan of BKR540. Thanks for the content.
One the very best channel on Fragrance 😎👍🏼🤩
I'm one that has never smelled a niche fragrance before. I just don't have any kind of access. Thanks for the list, will be a great help if I can ever get niche scents
My first niche fragrance was acqua di parma fico di amalfi. Think my first creed will have to be green Irish tweed.
That's such an affordable and nice niche fragrance I kind of expected him to name it tbh.
That makes two of us
great video, thks !
Plz we need more Niche videos !
Great list brother wish you could include the amazing guerlain santal royal, other than that a super solid list!
I started with 1. Mancera Instant Crush, 2. Montale Oud Black, 3. Mancera Red Tobacco. Those three were $130 a bottle. I'll probably go with PDM Layton next.
Great list and I enjoyed it and i like andy tauer air de marocain and Tom Ford oud wood and chergui and im going to try the other fragrances and have a blessed day
An excellent rationalization in the intro. Although the hay and tobacco in Chergui really does remind me of the hay and tobacco in D&G's Intenso. Not initially, but certainly in the drydown. Some great recommendations Ash. Might throw in Vetiver Extraordinaire from FM, Killian's Back to Black and Santal Majuscule from Serge Lutens. 👍
Thanks for the video!! Honestly wish this video came out yesterday 😂 I spent 2 whole days trying to decide on which niche fragrance to get for my first one but I just ended up choosing PDM Layton!
I'd love to hear your genuine feedback on Layton as I'm also considering it
@@mazrashid6549 I've had it for about a week now and honestly I really love it, I was kinda nervous about spending so much on this fragrance but I'm glad I bought the 4.2oz bottle, to me it's just refreshing when I inhale it, nd so far I've already had 5 compliments off it,,, I definitely recommend it!
Would be awesome to see a part 2!!
Great list brother.
Hey Ash! Do you have a favorite Kilian Paris scent? Thank you!!
Great video Ash
It scares me that you and I share almost the exact same taste. Thanks for always providing great content.
Great list
Green Irish tweed was my first niche. Followed by Layton then Tuscan leather.
Thanks so much for this! I am new to the serious fragrance world and it can be overwhelming ...... and that's before you put your nose on many niche fragrances LOL I love it though. Take care!
No matter the weather, you can never gone wrong with Aventus!!!!! "THUMBS UP"🥊🔔
I'd include Ambre Nuit. Smells heavenly IMO
I just got into fragrances and Oud Wood was the first Niche fragrance I bought. I absolutely love it! Keep the great content coming and thank you!
TF Oud Wood is an awesome fragrance! One of my favorites
I love when you say L’air du désert morocain :D
Blood, Thx for whipping out the neeche
PDM Layton Exclusif was my first niche buy. It’s actually coming in the mail tomorrow. Wanted to try my first oud, heard it was one the better to get into.
how was it?
Great video. I need to try Tuscan Leather still
how'd it go...
I'm just going with the correct definition, thats definition #1 😉
My first ones were Baccarat Rouge 540 then Creed Aventus and then PDF Pegasus my next fragrances will probably be LV Ombre Nomade and YSL Tuxedo even though they are not niche theyre some of the best ive smelled
Hello Ash, how are you? Thank you for that informative video. Stay safe Brother!
Love GIT. A true frag for life.
I'd replace BR540 with either Amyris EDT , lumiere noire or Gentle fluidity silver
Tokyo milk one is great and it's hella cheap why not start with that?
Great review!! Aqcua Di Parma is considered niche?
This weekend i purchased decants of my first 4 niche . Aventus, Green Irish Tweed , Floris Honey Oud , Mancera Cedrat Boise ...........
Great choices
Where can I purchase and smell some of these? I already have creed and smelled baccarat.
awesome!
Great video Bro
Reflection Man would have probably been a more palatable Amouage choice. Jubilee 25 is off-putting. I've not gotten my nose on Interlude Man, so I can't comment on that one. Tom Ford Ombre Leather is the more affordable one to try if you're interested in Tuscan Leather.
My first niche fragrance was mancera cedrat boise
It's true people will argue forever about the definition of nichè
Jubilation was the first niche fragrance i've ever sampled
Great video Ash! Between PDM Layton and BR540, which should a beginner in niche go with?
Layton
What you guys think of daniel joiser
Juvilacion 25 is a great start for beginners I Agree
Can you pls make video advance Designer fragrances that have niche quality. Like Maison Margiela etc. Thx
Parfums De Marly Kalan is one of the best from that brand too.
can anyone tell me if the performance of the current tobacco vanille batches is still as strong as it used to be?
I don’t remember what batch mine is but I bought it in 2018, and it lasts an incredible 8 hours + on my skin. It goes on strong with 12 hours + on my clothes. Projection is also well beyond arm span length. Great for cool nights out or going to a classy party 👍🤜
What lav mic did u use bro? ❤️🙏
Sir,
Would you purchase Tuscan Leather or Layton first? On this list I own TF Oud Wood and Aventus. Thanks!
Get layton
I loved herod
I think Parfums de Marly are mutch more accessible than Creed but you are right anyways ✌️
Interesting list. I started my niche step with these 3 frags:
1: Creeds Aventus (I think this is what most beginners start with).
2: PDM Layton
3: Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille (I didn’t get Tuscan Leather or Oud Wood since after sampling those, it seemed too much for me.)
As for the Amouage line, I think Reflection man would’ve been much more relevant since that’s the scent I hear most about. Most of the Amouage line smells quite nice 👍
How are you liking Layton and TobaccoVanille? I just entered the niche world and bought Aventus and Millesime Imperial. Thinking about adding Layton, TobaccoVanille, and Elysium by Roja.
Hey JL, I’ve owned Layton and TV for 2+ years now. I’m onto my 2nd bottle of Layton, that should give you an idea of just how incredible the scent is. I’m down to half on my bottle of TV. Both scents are for cool to colder weather, but I’ve noticed Layton does well in spring/summer situations as well. If you’re planning to buy the 3 you mentioned, I’d say stick Elysium on the bottom of your list. Elysium is a great scent, but it isn’t anything mind blowing if you’ve already gotten your nose on Aventus 👍 Also, between Layton and TV, I’d go for Layton as the first bottle to buy.
@@Q_N- Awesome! Thank you so much for the response!
I am not that old in niche but never came in my mind to even buy Creed. Overrated if you ask me. Also heard that it used to be way better years ago. Idk why people keep recommanding this overpriced sent.
7:35 i would love to know how this one smells like just from the mention of the ingredients.
I’m definitely thinking I’m in the minority in this opinion... but I think interlude man in summer heat smells amazing. Obviously control your sprays... but yeah I dig it.
Mr Ashton can you make a list for niche beginner (not so expensive version)
Clone houses aren't bad cost wise. Alexandria, Parfums vintage etc I'm skeptical about Dua
@@Dustpuma1 also try Rihanna fragrances they are not bad, either. Cheap Niche.
@@Dustpuma1 There is some pretty convincing information out there linking Alexandria and DUA. It looks like they are run by the same people and Hany is involved in both. Search Google for 'alexandria dua quid' and it's the first link that comes up.
I’d recommend Genre Parfums, they’ve been talked about by other reviews and have amazing and affordable clones and inspirations as well as some of their own stuff. They currently operate out of a Facebook group. To my knowledge they take orders for a certain period at a time. I’m waiting for orders to open up again. Utopia is one of the best Roja Dove Elysium clones
European or states?
Nice vid. A suggestion. A beginners guide to niche clones. Ha.
I'm just coming out of the beginner stage of niche it seems. Have most of those fragrances, and just bought Memo Paris African Leather. Have I transcended to Intermediate level? Will my hair start to change colour?!
Honestly I think the “next level” would be when you’ve collected every bottle a certain house has to offer. I’m currently working on getting all of Bond no 9’s line. I’m about half way 😂
Your hair will turn a golden blonde and your eyes will glow green, yes 😆
@@Q_N- guess I'll chose a new line with three or four fragrances them. Haha
@@munkeefinkelbeen5395 finally, I will catch up with Kakarot!
I own all fragrances from this selection
Ashton, kind of left field but if you were interested in Andy Tauers new one Phtyloblue I have it for sale. Direct or eBay. Only 4 sprays wasted $100. ?
I have 2 creeds smw and aventus. Mancera cedrat b. And i cant get in to them and i hate that i cant. Designers for me only i guess
Would recommend YSL Tuxedo clones from Alexandria or Dua. Or just order a lot of 5 ml Alexandria samples from their website.
Hey dude for part two, do a entry level AFFORDABLE niche, like $125 and less.. Things that compare to the high end of designers
Any fragrance close to PDM Layton?
Boss bottled
I get the inclusion of Tom Ford's Tuscan Leather. Personally I'd say get Tom Ford's Ombre Leather (designer and much cheaper) instead. And I'd replace it on the list with Memo's African Leather. Not because of the leather (it's barely prominent and works mostly as a base imo) but because it's spicy cardamom and saffron.
I really dig Memo African Leather! Very nice fragrance
Appreciate the definition, for a beginner.
Can y’all help me decide which discounter is better? In terms of authenticity and shipping speeds? I want to buy from FragranceNet but I’ve been hearing they sell replicas
I only gotten like 7 bottles from them all legit
Boot War were one of those bottles Creed?
Off topic request.
Please maybe mention how/why fragranceNet has become less attractive in terms of pricing. Deals don’t seem to be as great as they once were
Oud Wood or Oud for Grettness?
Where can I buy this fragrances?
I sampled Tobacco Vanille and it leads too feminine off my skin. I need to give my sample of Oud Wood more wearing. I would like to try Layton and Jubilation XXV. Both PDM and Amouage are houses I want to explore more.
I have Layton & TV... IMO Layton gives off a feminine type vibe as well smells very vanilla/leathery ish at dry down but spicy in the opening. Let me know if you finally tried both of them for yourself
@@johnv.1884 I have tried Layton, it’s nice and beast mode off my skin. I would like to try some more Amouage frags. I sampled Jubilation and Reflection a few years ago, but I don’t remember them.
One I always recommend, especially if you love something like Old Spice, is L”homme Sage by Divine. A great way to start a niche collection! 😃
I don't consider tom ford as something niche, I think is a designer kind "exclusive and luxurious" but designer brand
I prefer Ombre Leather to Tuscan Leather.
Aventus lasts 4-5 hours tops on me. Might be my skin or bad batch. But I’m very disapointed with the performance.
I had Creed Aventus years ago and I loved it. But, I just got a bottle yesterday and it doesn't last an hour. It used to last almost all day. I think that I got a bad batch.
Aventus creates nose fatigue more than any other fragrance I own. Isolate your senses with a Covid mask for a bit or smell your own body odor then go back to where you sprayed.
Nope not a bad batch it’s the norm
Do a designer version of these
Xerjoff should be on anyone's list as well because of their affordable and customizable sample pack. Not many niche brands do it nowadays.
Thanks for the info.
Niche just means much more expensive than average, and therefore higher quality ingredients, typically higher in natural ingredients. Simple as that.
You blend with the wall with your shirt. 🤣🤣
P.s. Nice list though.
I will also include Guerlain’s Les Absolus d'Orient as a niche
Herod would be a great start too :)
Ash, I simply can't stand L'Air du Desert Marocain. I totally admire the artistic side of the composition, but I simply can't imagine any situation on which a PERSON would actually smell nice with that scent. Apart from that, I'd add Reflection Man to the list.
Every designer has a "private line" of more expensive luxury fragrances. Does that make them actual "niche" or still designer? I'd go with the latter because why blur the lines so much.
Green irish tweed an milliseme imperial 🔥
Ash, you’ve clearly left off the most obvious frag... Secretions Magnifiques! Perhaps it’s considered more indie than niche. It’s the perfect fragrance for when you want to end a romantic relationship but you would prefer that the other person do the ending for you.
Signature scent worthy
The term "designer" is the problem, not "niche". Just call it mainstream/mass appeal. They are easily likeable, hence they can be mass produced and therefore are cheap, albeit their quality is decent.
A better way to discern between fragrance production types than designer/niche would be something like mainstream/niche/garbage. But probably it would be better to go with more than one dimension, since you also pay for the brand.
Safest beginner Niche fragrances that smell incredible are from Creed and Parfums de Marly.
you need bigger font for the frags
