His intent was to put up barricades between himself and the other officers at the perps side. They were sitting ducks at that moment. Multiple 1st responders were shot at and there was still question at that moment as to if there were other shooters or just the one. While this officer was certainly very professional in his duties he was not at all concerned about the perps modesty or dignity. His concern was for the safety of everyone on scene. Pulling down the shorts may seem more ideal, but if They taught youyou why to cut the clothes it will make a lot more sense to you This cop was acting as the coroner, The person that has to write the report and locate any other gun shot wounds, most likely that’s what he was looking for when cutting the clothes. Just looked this stuff up it’s pretty interesting 👍🏾
As a first responder my priority would have been to save live. I’m not interested in being coroner. As soon as I started struggling with the scissors I’d have pulled down those shorts, checked , then pulled back up if all clear.

I have a feeling this actually WASN'T the most traumatic day of his entire life. The only thing I'd liked to have seen him do differently was to glove up before rendering aid.
Not that anybody cares cause this post is eight months old, but I believe he looked at his hands to make sure he had no cuts or open wounds before administering aid. The skin makes a fantastic barrier for disease as long as it’s not opened in anyway. So I believe he looked at his hands to make sure he had no injuries before he knelt down to render aid.
@@kijat2127 Yikes, that's a hugely naive line of thought. Even the tiniest breaks in the skin - nearly invisible to the eye - can be a vector into the body for blood-borne pathogens.
@@perniciousreaper4393 It’s interesting you take such a strong point of view on this. You should take some TCCC courses. They might help you have a better understanding of administering medical aid in a combat situation. Should you always wear gloves? Duh… Can you always? No. Does the skin offer a fantastic barrier for disease? Yes. Is there a risk? Lol yea…but fresh out of a gun fight that’s the least of your concerns, especially as a cop. Another thing you should consider is looking into the video, the police officer in the video is a veteran. So when he looks down at his hands to check for cuts before he goes down to administer aid that is exactly what he is doing because he was trained in that same fashion. You can take TCCC as a civilian and get similar information. I would recommend it.
Some are made for it. Most aren't. This man was made for it. To me, just on the behavior in this video, shows a model officer. Professional. Calm. Good shot.
In the amount of time it took him to whittle his way through those shorts, he could've yanked them down several times, then made coffee, then applied for his promotion. So many times we here officers screaming instructions at the suspect, almost unintelligible, strained voices. This officers demeanor is incredible, and the leadership is stellar!
not to excuse the perpetrator's actions, because nothing justifies murdering people, especially first responders. and the guy also had a length criminal history. but only a few months before, the shooter lost his mom in a house fire. he was severely burned trying to rescue her, with his mother dying in his arms. his fiancee said he had started suffering from mental breakdowns after that. also might explain his act of arson prior to his shooting spree. not to say there aren't evil people out there in the world, but usually an act this crazy always makes me think they're going thru some mental health episode.

I’m assuming that was his goal when he asks several times to contain the area while he assess the shooter. He’s what a real hero looks like! I will always back the good blue and there are millions of them!
Super calm and professional in a very unsettling situation. Impressive.

@@deanjeremy3674 it’s procedure to cut and not to pull down in most departments. Pulling down the shorts may seem more ideal, but if They taught youyou why to cut the clothes it will make a lot more sense to you
This cop was acting as the coroner, The person that has to write the report and locate any other gun shot wounds, most likely that’s what he was looking for when cutting the clothes. He looked at his hands like he wanted to. I dont think he had them on hand, no pun intended.
