I am glad the chief got to see how well this officer performed under low risk conditions..I would not want this guy backing me up unless it was fir scouting doughnut shops.
A little research on this showed that he is a new hire and had just recently completed training when this awful event happened. He was hired in this physical condition. The police chief that assisted in the arrest introduced the new LEO, Josh, during the January town council. Josh then trained for 90 days and this happened shortly after his training was complete. Sheesh.
If true, then the chief screwed everyone in that town. Josh is going to have to wrestle just about every day, because no one is going to take him seriously as an officer. You have to have a certain presence to be an effective cop so that people respect you. Being 400 pounds and goofy looking isn't going to demand respect from the public.

Knew a cop when he was a rookie. He was very muscular with little body fat. Saw him about 2 years later and he was totally overweight and out of shape. Sitting around in a patrol car all day took its toll.
When I first saw the officer come into view and viewed his physical appearance I knew this was not going to go well. How he ever got onto the police is unfathomable. Even a small country village should have some physical standards but apparently not this one. Tasing himself during the struggle was unbelievable. He is a danger to himself and those around him and needs reassignment to monitoring the department’s coffee makers.
It’s easy to train to pass physical requirements to get hired but once you’re in that cruiser everyday for hours at a time it’s so easy to become lazy & eat out of boredom & eat fast food all day. . I worked for a city maintenance department & we spent so much time in truck driving we were always stopping at gas stations getting snacks & hitting drive thru. I put on weight quick when I was there.
@@LeSwexy You are right. The US has a severe obesity problem. The military has even lowered standards to sign up because so many teens are overweight now.
This was one of my all time favorite vids you guys have put out. Just because of how you spotlight and stress the importance of preparedness for cops on the streets. Officer presence is a million times more important than most seem to realize. Thanks for this one!
The second he came into view and I saw his taser facing backwards I knew he was screwed. I'm not sure if he had a cross draw in mind, which puts all focus on his right hand and gives his left hand zero capability, but this dude put on one hell of a show. Props to the off duty.
I will never understand that. They go thru a basic physical training for what. If they are going to allow to get so overweight why even do that in the beginning.
John, you mentioned the officer may have had a tough time reaching around his own waist to get the taser. Let me share something that may sound a bit weird but it works, and that is when we reach around and are a bit heavy, we tend to inhale for that reach, but here's the clincher, inhaling actually makes it more difficult to reach around our waist. By EXhailing, you can reach farther around. Try it both ways, inhale turn then exhale and turn, standing and you will see how much a difference it makes. EXhailing seems to relax the torso so you can twist. A funny but good way to train yourself how to get in the habit of doing the opposite of inhaling is to do it on the toilet. That's right, after you've done your business and you are ready to wipe, EXhale as you reach around, LOL it works!
He clearly is not mentally stable, unless he begins to become a threat to himself or other people, physical force should not be in the picture. I'm not a lawyer but i'm 99% sure this is grounds for a legal suit.

@@AvadaVendetta True, but as a purple belt you’ll likely be more than capable of controlling position until help arrives. Also there’s the exhaustion factor. Great advice! My uncle is chief of police now, but a while back he was out of shape and was chasing a bank robber which led to him having a knee surgery when he jumped a fence. But, a little under 3 years later he is Chief of police and doing so well. His son is also a detective now as well and his other son an Army tank mechanic. The way he’s narrating his mistakes and bad fortune! 😂😂😂 I had to stop this right around the time his radio broke and just laugh for a few minutes. This was almost scripted for a movie it’s so perfectly hilarious!
Come on John, you guys are “ABSOLUTELY WRONG” about this one. This guy hadn’t broken any laws to be approached by an officer. He walked away from the officer and was accosted by the officer. (He allegedly moved some cones,”really”) Sure, he looked strange and behaved strangely but that’s not against the law. This officer could’ve really gotten hurt by his own actions and now they’re going to make up a bunch of charges on this guy. “This is why so many police departments get sued !” If he broke any laws please let me know per I didn’t see any infractions.👎🏾
Anyone can be approached by anyone else . The cop was asking dude questions... if dude answered questions and would have been cool than just talked to the cops he could have walked home ..maybe the guy was me a crazy man on the loose and needed medical help ...
Two things wrong in this video; the one being commented on is the minor problem which is the incompetence of the officers. The bigger problem is the multiple violations of civil rights. Again, that is incompetence. This poor guy committed no crime, there was no cause, he didn't listen, and the "you will respect my authority" ego kicked in. If that guy had been more violent, bigger, or just plain meaner...it would have ended badly for these two officers.
That cop is an embarrassment to his department and to the law enforcement community. If I was that cop I would turn in my badge at the end of my shift and seek employment at Dunkin Donuts.
I have worked with military vets and personnel for many years.. I can tell you ANY grabbing or aggressive moves towards them is NOT GOOD. I really suggest when dealing with them .. u need a officer who has been in the military if you can. They tend to respond better towards their own. Hope this helps.
Just imagine, you are an officer and your partner and yourself get into a tense situation requiring focus and skill. The last thing you want to hear your partner say is: A-I’m trying to get the taser B-My radio is broke C-Ah shit, I tased myself or D-All of the above
It all escalated with the officer’s initial contact. He asked repeatedly and condescendingly “how can I help you”. He responded clearly that “I don’t need anything”. Agree with Mike at this one. Then straight to Demanding ID, and went straight to hands on without a reason at that time. Contempt of cop caused this to escalate unnecessarily. If the “suspect” had complied he would have had a payday for civil rights violation instead of charges.
One thing to note is the officer never once said I’m detaining you or you’re under arrest prior to becoming physical with the man. Was a terrible display of procedure here. Probably should look into another career
@@chuckrudder4246 look I fully support law enforcement and believe the overwhelming majority of police officers do the right thing. But this whole encounter was basically an officer going into panic mode to get the guy into custody. And then add to the fact that he was horribly unprepared and made so many other mistakes while trying to detain the individual. I don’t have all the facts so I can only go off of the video provided. I’m not sure what probable cause the officer had to detain the individual in the first place. But his lack of good verbal communication and then just immediately escalating the situation to physical detention is just the wrong way to handle this and arguably violated this man’s rights in the process. And I also understand that laws vary from state to state and town to town and that it’s “possible” no rights were violated. But an officer can’t just vaguely accuse you of something without probable cause and then immediately move to physically detain you in the manner this officer did. He’s an embarrassment to good police officers everywhere. All these kinds of interactions do is give good officers a bad name and put taxpayers on the hook for potential lawsuits against the police department in the future.
@2:42 is comedy gold 🤣. The older gentleman knows his strength will exhaust in a matter of seconds as he demands the taper, which gets kicked out of the hands of the officer!

Cop had no reason to get that physical that quick especially without backup. Glad that Mike questioned the probable cause for the interaction in the first place. Government overreach combined with incompetence with this one.
You may be right. But almost anywhere in the world if you resist arrest you will be indicted. I guess a lawyer would advise to comply and if you were wrongly arrested you may demand a compensation.
Im sorry, but he actually did. You have just refused to comply with a lawful command. At that moment you are detained. I just think he was not trained well enough to handle someone about 50 lbs less than him. Like wtf. He should’ve shot him w the taser soon as he started walking off
Initial report was that he was walking in to traffic and acting strangely. So I feel the contact was warranted.... but this is def. one of those calls where you try to talk to the guy and keep him verbally engaged as long as possible until backup arrives. Don't be so anxious to go hands on right away.
I work Security, same rule applies. I see the same issues with most in my department..it's really sad and a shame. Most are so physically, emotionally and especially spiritually out of shape its really sad. Great video, I'll share this with my team. Thanks John👍🙏
"What was the PC" and "what was the reason for the stop in the first place" are excellent observations, thanks Mike. The charges would have to read "Resisting Unlawful Arrest" or "Resisting Criminal Abduction". To charge "Resisting Arrest" implies there was a lawful arrest to begin with. Many cops don't seem to know the difference between a consensual encounter and a detention (4th amendment seizure).
Holy spit. Worthless as a public safety officer. It took him minutes to think of using his car radio after he broke or couldn’t use his handheld radio. And during that time he did nothing useful, just huffed and puffed his way around the vehicle for some reason.
Some small town cops trying to throw their weight around, and as we can see the weight didn't help them none. I kinda agree with Mike on this one, they should have just left the guy alone. He was after all, walking away from the officer, and not aggressive
Wow! I was about to give you guys hell! But you hit it on the head! There was absolutely NO RAS ! Reasonable Articulable Suspicion of a CRIME! Without , you Can Not just try to detain with force!!!! This man had EVERY Fucking reason to defend himself against these police officers!
This officer had me laughing the whole time. This county must be in terrible need of police to allow this man to be an officer 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 we need to see more of this officer previous videos of his past encounters.
And I’m kinda surprised that John was suggesting razing him before the physical contact … when the guy hasn’t been violent If you don’t listen to me , I’ll put 1000 volt of electricity through your body
"Not a great stop to begin with" is a massive understatement. Absolutely no reason for the officer to go hands on with the guy the way he did. The vet showed no indication of being dangerous. But of course they're going to jam him up with vindictive resisting arrest charges for a situation that wasn't his fault in the first place. This is exactly why so many people hate cops.
@@WickedZZzY Don't make a scene. Don't be passive aggressive and unclear. Don't turn a calm conversation with a nonviolent person into a sudden physical altercation. Don't put charges on a veteran who pretty clearly has altered thinking, because he embarrassed you.

@@WickedZZzY It could have been handled better on both sides. But the guy having some kind of mental episode will face life altering criminal charges, while the cops *who are sworn and trained to handle these situations properly* will face nothing. Also he didn't need to be stopped, that's one of the old school bullshit assumptions we let law enforcement get away with. Noncompliance is not attacking. Resisting is not attacking. The cops, nor anyone else, were never in danger. In this situation, the only reason the cops "needed" to physically force immediate compliance was their pride. Despite what we've been told, there's no reason non-compliance/resisting/refusing arrest for low-level/nonviolent crime can't be handled with a ticket, instead of a fight in the street over moving a cone.
@@milesmccall2301 The shocking stupidity of people like you is always amazing. You literally watch a channel where cops die on a regular basis because of people like this who appear to be just minding their own business and then turn deadly. We have laws in this country. And the law does enable officers to issue commands and have those commands be followed. If you don't like the law, push for it it he changed, but don't blame police officers for laws you have the ability to change. Furthermore, this guy is clearly having a psychotic episode. How many times on this channel have we seen guys like this go on to murder someone. In many cases, because morons like you didn't want them to be stopped or arrested. Do you think a man willing to fight and scream at multiple police officers is a polite, contributing member of society? Would you want him walking alone with your wife down a street? He deserves his charges.
The Chief saw him breaking the law, watched him the whole time until the on duty officer showed up. 100% reasonable stop. Failed to follow lawful orders, “have a seat let’s talk.” Walked away and then resisted arrest.
Noncompliance is not the same as resistance. The “perp” didn’t do anything to justify getting arrested initially. The officer escalated the situation and forced the “perp” to react.
Yeah, I’m struggling with this too. I get you can’t resist a cop, and should fight it later in the courts…. But honestly that’s expensive and no guarantee you will get justice. I have an honest question: if a cop unjustly assaults you or a family member, can you legally defend yourself? If i am walking down the street and a cop ridiculously escalates a situation and puts hands on me, am i not justified to defend myself against a person who obviously means me or my family harm?
@@buddhaway no they are not. You are not required to comply unless you have committed a crime and they are arresting you. The “perp” did not commit a crime that justified getting arrested. A cop can not arrest you just because they say so.
This is very common; many police departments have to order seat belt extenders for their patrol cars. Also, why are badges and guns given to individuals who lack self-control?
One of the main issues with modern police forces - slovenly, undisciplined officers; puts officers in bad positions, which results in bad decisions, which we hear about too often.
I'm glad the cause for the initial stop was actually questioned here. 'We think you moved some cones and I need your ID now.' He was within his rights to say no thanks and walk away when he did, he wasn't even told he was being detained. That was a consensual encounter until Officer Spare Tires grabbed ahold of him. Excellent chance this gets thrown out, so what was gained from this whole debacle? As the man says, discretion. Use it.
The probable cause was rock solid. The Chief had arrest authority in the situation and he called for assistance in effectuating an arrest. As long as he is willing to be a fact witness before court, that PC is undeniable

A little research on this showed that he is a new hire and had just recently completed training when this awful event happened. He was hired in this physical condition. The police chief that assisted in the arrest introduced the new LEO, Josh, during the January town council. Josh then trained for 90 days and this happened shortly after his training was complete. Sheesh.
90 days of training? Shit that’s how long training to handle calls in a call center takes, should be a far higher standard for police
I'm with the police because the barefoot is up to no good.
But, Josh is unfit for the job.

If the “suspect” had complied he would have had a payday for civil rights violation instead of charges.

I’m not sure what probable cause the officer had to detain the individual in the first place. But his lack of good verbal communication and then just immediately escalating the situation to physical detention is just the wrong way to handle this and arguably violated this man’s rights in the process. Noncompliance is not the same as resistance. The “perp” didn’t do anything to justify getting arrested initially. The officer escalated the situation and forced the “perp” to react.
I agree , the fat cop thought that his fat pressence was enough reason to try to domminate fysical someone that maybe moved some cones .
It was resisting, no matter how it started.
He wasn't getting arrested initially, he was asked to sit down. Refusing and then resisting when the cop put hands on him are both arrestable.
@@buddhaway no they are not. You are not required to comply unless you have committed a crime and they are arresting you. The “perp” did not commit a crime that justified getting arrested. A cop can not arrest you just because they say so.
The cop shoulda just sat on him, that woulda ended the threat immediately 😂😂
this guy definitely had some kind of combat training the second i saw him in the handcuff position i knew shit was about to hit the fan
This is very common; many police departments have to order seat belt extenders for their patrol cars.
Also, why are badges and guns given to individuals who lack self-control?
Good point 👉 If you have no self control over what you eat then what self control would you have in these situations as a cop .
@@georgevavoulis4758 It speaks for itself.
Being disciplined with your diet is a different skill set (habit, actually) than self-control over your emotions.
@@dafunkmonster Thank you for the reply.
Why can't the police enforce fitness standards?
Makes too much sense.
They should've just let him go lol
The guy they are wrestling with was well aware and calm until fully restrained. That guy knew how to grapple.
Mike is such a great addition 😂
Agreed. He's getting more comfortable about sharing his experience/critiques which is helpful.
Definition of cool
😀
One of the main issues with modern police forces - slovenly, undisciplined officers; puts officers in bad positions, which results in bad decisions, which we hear about too often.
I learned a new word today.
slov·en·ly (slŭv′ən-lē) adj.
1. Untidy, as in dress or appearance.
2. Marked by negligence; careless or slipshod:
@@RsDefcon thx
I think they need to put Farva back on the radio!
Without a doubt. This PD should be embarrassed.
That plain-clothes cop came up all super-cop thinking he was just gonna intimidate that idiot then goes into panic mode really fast 😆.
Use it.
Thank you for emphasizing the questionable probable cause here. I was screaming "Why!" the whole time.
The probable cause was rock solid. The Chief had arrest authority in the situation and he called for assistance in effectuating an arrest. As long as he is willing to be a fact witness before court, that PC is undeniable
@@Georgejackson711 Calmly walking away when it’s not clear you’re being detained is not probable cause.
