I just don't get why this obsession with the radio isn't trained out of our police. I'm a pilot and it's pounded in our head that the radio is last when it comes to an emergency, with cops it seems the radio is first. Once the first shots fired goes out, throw away the radio in a gun fight.

Can't believe what I heard @ 4:17. The second officer tell someone that he could see the suspect and that he was reloading his weapon. If you are in the position to see a guy who just shot at you and your partner, you should be putting well placed rounds down range on the suspect.

    • @ms.newyawkeri7559

The suspect was against the buildings. You can not shoot and miss and have bullets go through the walls into an apartment with innocent people inside. Someone inside could get killed. I had the same thought as you, why didn't he shoot? Then realized they can't take a chance of shooting someone in the apartment.
Edit: These officers didn't seem well trained. All those patrol cars and officers and no one could stop him. All their ammo probably would have went through the walls and not the suspect.

The second officer was too scared “where’d he go” guy. He was placed perfectly to take the suspect out.
Edit: basically, he just saw where his partner was shooting at. He shouldn’t be asking that question. He should have his eyes on the suspects location. There’s only one exit for the suspect. Hiding behind the cruiser, imo, gives the suspect time to ambush the officers. Reminds me of the officers who got into that terrible fight with a suspect wielding some type of rifle. The suspect flanked the officers and if it wasn’t for a gun jam, they would have died.

Continuing in his sh*t-for-backup vein, he then retreats to a position where he can’t see the shooter, feels compelled to reveal his and other’s position by talking. He should have posted up off of his rear quarter panel and engaged the suspect as soon as he rounded the corner at the bottom of the stairs. If he missed then he could have backed around to the other side of his vehicle. But he didn’t so he definitely should have engaged him when he was reloading. And if he’s fellow officer said he was OK he should have gave chase. I hope this officer has found a new line of work. Gone are the days of I was a police officer for 30 years and never pulled my weapon out of its holster. Talking about the full figured officers ND, doubt he had much time on that gun. It’s hammer fired, so very different SA trigger than DA for first shot. He also does an administrative decock while behind the fence. Think he was “brushing” for a manual safety. Took me a LONG time to get used to the 2 “different triggers” and manual of arms

Remember this is California and law enforcement is restricted by the same gun laws as private citizens. It seems like the large officer had a crappy gun. I noticed he had to rack the gun and it looked like it ejected a spent round after the reload. I could be way off on the gun. I don't know why the second officer didn't switch to a shot gun or rifle.

That is crazy!!! I live in that apartment behind where the incident happened. I was sleeping, just got off work a few hours before it happens. There's an elementary school across the street. SMFH, it is a good thing my neighbor didn't get hurt. Some kid died from a stray bullet years before I move in. They caught that POS though. The first officer looks like he did not know what he was supposed to do SMFH.

Re: the Sacto training budget; it’s most likely just like every other agency, just enough to meet state requirements and reduce liability. If you’re an officer/deputy satisfied with that level of training you’re a liability to your community and fellow officers. Step up yourself.

I was thinking the same thing as soon as he came in sight down the stairs. That was his opportunity to light him up he choked man. He was paying attention to the officer that started shooting first. Come on man this didn't have to be a 8 hour hunt. They could have ended it right there. That guy was not even paying attention to the second officer.
