  • I recently found a cheap CRT VGA monitor for sale locally and paid next to nothing for it. I wanted to test it out with my SteamCube and see how Windows, modern websites, and retro games would look on it. I'm real happy with the results, but it still takes up way too much room on a desk, lol.
Here's the video where I build the SteamCube:

Something like this might look great on a CRT too:

"I don't think anyone is using one of these are their daily driver anymore"
I absolutely love my CRT. It really helps with the cozy nostalgic atmosphere I find calming, and the 4:3 really promote focus for me. I'm rocking it with a dual boot system on Windows 7 and Xubuntu skinned with Chicago95. To paint he picture of my setup, I have a classic town play rug as my full desk mat, along with drawers of lego that help hide just how deep the CRT is. Furbys and My Little Ponies adorn the rest of the space along with some glass for smoking it up while I poke around on the way back machine or Neocities. Yeah I could have a huge ultrawide and high end system if I really wanted to but I just adore the old school nature of this. I feel truly at home with Aero and 4:3 and I just got my wife's late grandpas XP system I'm going to pull photos and files off of and turn into my dedicated classic game console.

oh and our living room has a 27" Toshiba tube tv hooked up to an OG xbox, wii, and vcr with a killer vintage stereo setup. There's a real charm even non-nerds like my roommate prefer with CRTs

I think I still have a newer CRT at my mom's house, that has a flat screen and I am not sure what I did with the older CRT I had. I do regret dismantling my first PC from the 90s. It was a good machine back then and it played pretty much everything that came out in the 90s

For me, I found an "HD" CRT TV with standard component & composite but oddly enough ALSO HDMI!? Using some custom scaling on a GT1030 I got a decent picture. Now being the weirdo that I am, I took one look at the ultrawide and thought 'Yep, super mario world widescreen hack' and it works well ^_^
