MeatHook is finally here @ ruclips.net/video/wTKfOsJVBMA/видео.html
You should look into the remastered ost floating around youtube, the slayer city into meathook is absolutely enamored with everything you will love.
you said there was a bass in this song. there is no Bass. its just a 9 string guitar. and in part of the song it USES A CHAINSAW A FUCKING CHAINSAW.
You should check out Hell on earth it's a fantastic song and really gives you a perfect idea of the rest of the soundtrack
Definitely need to listen to the OST version of this. It's so much better and has all the transitions you'd be looking for.
I really recommend "Im Back (To Rise)" by Mick Gordon. He did a few song for characters in Killer instinct. show you some of his range to, going into a bit of hip-hop.
Lawnmower for normal people : Gardening Tool
Lawnmower for Mick : YEP INSTRUMENT

Mick just vibing in his room then he hears a lawnmower 👀👂🤘

@@gjhoward Same
I've seen this happen a few times.
Part of me wonders if Mick Gordon measured it out so at about the same time most music people say "where's the drop?/I was expecting/this ain't hard"
he'd be hitting them in the face with a chainsaw
Doom Eternal: The $60 album that comes with a free game
Truth
3 free games. Don’t forget Doom 1 and 2
Or it would've been if Bethesda and Id hadn't been rushing the man and decided to meddle.
@@GTLargo21 He's a professional musician composing for a multi-million third party project. They gave him extra time to finish, he still missed the extended deadline. You have to draw a line on the perfectionism somewhere if you're going to make art commercially.
It sucks that it happened but it's not like he's entirely absolved of blame. Hopefully they can amend relations in the future. It wouldn't be same without him.
@@Spiderbloke pretty much this, the fact he was given an extension for the soundtrack at all was pretty generous on the developers for this type of project.
Like you said, I hope they work together more.
"One more time won't hurt nobody" you're goddamn right
True
Maybe hurt the demons, but not the players while playing the game and listening to the soundtrack
*demonetize*
@@RPGHSGAMING Lmao
He couldn’t be anymore wrong.
It hurt somebody....the denizens of hell, that is.
Fun fact-in DOOM 2016 when they told Gordon he couldn’t use guitars in his pieces, he used actual chainsaws
Dont forget the lawnmower
@@erik_jjj I think the lawnmower didnt come in until eternal but idk.
It was actually a stock sound effect from DOOM (1993)
Mick Gordon is known to pop up in the comment section of videos reviewing his work. I hope he sees this because this is how I feel every damn day I listen to this song.
I hope he does, he is great, never saw so much dedication in composing and producing the song, thanks for watching peace.

He did make comment in medieval version.
@@TheMusicRecordingNetwork except he couldn't be bothered to actually follow through on his job and violated his contract.
@@williameldridge9382Bla bla bla He made a dynamic video game soundtrack that responds perfectly to every single moment, then got bogged down trying to make a CD version for the collectors edition soundtrack that nobody will ever listen to because they are too busy playing the game instead of listening to videogame music on their CD player.

"Is the chainsaw an instrument?"
“Yes, yes it is.”

"Meathook is not an instrument either".

Mick Gordon: *Puts hand down*
"This gotta drop, or maybe it don't?"

Yoo, Mick Gordon - Super Gore Nest (Doom Eternal OST) is a MUST listen. Will knock you off the chair
Don't forget BFG 10000
Don't forget to listen to the game-rip version from the channel Koma
Super Gore Nest is mad slept on. It's a shame that Mick didn't get to master it properly.
Agreed
Bro Super Gore Nest is the best song off that album. I mean game
Mick doesn't actually use a bass for this is just a massive guitar, I think a 9 string
Yuup 9 strings
The mad lad.
I think he got rid of the 9string tho 🤔
@@Drugon-Dag yup. It was a 9 for 2016. Went with an 8 for eternal.
Yes.
I love how this guy clearly loves what he does, very refreshing.
If only Bethesda would let him sell this album smh.
While it's normal to assume it's Bethesda's fault anything goes wrong because they fuck up so much. This looks like Mick's fault. He failed to meet a deadline to mix the tracks for album listening (which is different than how you'd mix them in game). Then he failed to meet another one. Then Beth and Mick had a falling out mostly by Mick being a premadonna. And now another dev is mixing the soundtrack.
@@1111Tactical What you're leaving out here is that Bethesda announced the OST release with the collector's edition of Doom on E3 2019 (early June) but didn't actually contracted Gordon for the OST mixing until January of 2020; as revealed by Marty Stratton himself.
They knew Gordon was having difficulties with the soundtrack by June 2019 and not only announced the OST anyway but they basically waited until the last minute (2 months before release) to contract Gordon to work on the OST release.
To say that the onus is all on Gordon is naive, but lets not let facts get in the way of the yarn you're spinning.
@@1111Tactical see now I heard about all that but wasn’t exactly sure who was in the right haha. But yeah it really is that easy to blame them haha.
Yeah nah, Mick messed up, he acted like a Diva after failing a Deadline, doesn't matter how good your music is, a Deadline is a Deadline, and he had missed the Deadline not once but a couple times, and then publicly disrespected the guy they got to mix it because he took so long. That's on him.
@@blahblah3775 well thank you for the mini news story haha. Micklate should’ve been on time.
Lol when the "bass guitar" is actually an 8 string that is tuned to "drop hell"
I thought it was a 9 string
@@MadaraUchiha-sk2jl it is a 9 string not 8

double drop D is the hell that you mean
@@LUICFERGAMING it was a 9 for 2016. But Mick went with an 8 for eternal
Pretty sure the little squeaky thing near the end is a synthesized lawnmower
Yeah I think it is
It’s a chainsaw
Chainsaw was used in Hellwalker and stuff, ruclips.net/video/K_C_RFa6v90/видео.html this video has a good thing showing it

Truly a fitting soundtrack for the most legendary first person shooter in history
halo is more legendary, but doom is just better in my opinion

I love how mick Gordon's build up before every drop is diffrent even in a single song
This man is an entire vibe
The 8 string sounds like a bass and the bass sounds like someone twanging powerlines
Mick Gordon I believe actually used an out of tune 9-string to get as much grit and deathmetallyness out of this as he could
@@molochz I've seen the TED talk
Nope hes used Avenger Vst - Doomstep bank
My first try for sound test , its not hard , its actually eazy and fun to build , btw avenger vst cpu usage is huge , hard to work with it
Mick Gordon literally teases everyone by making you think there's gonna be a beat drop but when it doesn't happen, you can't help but pay attention trying to predict when it happens, he holds the fade making the drop so unexpected and impactful hitting like a speeding freight train.
omg, I am coming from a 2:00 am youtube recommendation rabbit hole and I am so happy I found your channel! it is so wholesome!
Thanks for coming
Im in a rabbit hole during a slow day at work rn lol.
"and this is for a game called...DOOM?"
nah, they made DOOM for this music
I love how the video goes from funky stuff to doom's ost
I can tell you really love music and sound. Can’t get a reaction like this from just anyone. I love it man
Mick’s work on the Killer Instinct soundtrack is legendary.
'I'm Back (to Rise)'
'Inferno'
'The Instinct'
'Hinnamatoom'
'Warlord'
'The Tiger Warrior'
'Lycanthropy'
Hell. Yes.
Mick Gordon to Mick Gordon: Alright Mick, do you want this riff to sound low and filling like a Bass, or badass and heavy like a guitar?
Mick Gordon: Yes
you know as well as me that this is djent right? lol
There's no need for a bass when you droptune to the 7th circle of hell
The way they incorporated the soundtrack for this game into the flow of combat was really masterful. Mick Gordon is a musical master and the sound design team for these games are incredible.
The *Here We Go!* in the beginning of the song was Lit!
Lolol.... yes
There are actually two versions of this song. There's this one and the one without the long intro and that's way more intense. I would recommend checking it out as well for comparison. The ending of the second version literally had me shacking out of excitement.
I like the one thats more intense in my opinion
The soundtrack of this game is genius, it's groovy, metal, electronic, even funky at times. Total masterpiece.
Man, video game music is a rabbit hole. There's an obscene amount of phenomenal soundtracks out there that are sadly missed by people who aren't into video games.
Final Fantasy, Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Hotline Miami, Shadow of the Colossus, shoot, even Super Mario has been putting out some BUMPIN fully orchestrated soundtracks over the last 15 ish years.
oh yeah, Hotline Miama is so crazy!; sone OSTs from the racing Game Distance are nice too
I go a little old school. Theres an old ps1 game I had called incredible crisis, the game is wild Japanese comedy/real time puzzle solving game and the ost is done by the Tokyo ska paradise orchestra and its pretty amazing. The ost for katamari damacy and beautiful katamari are also amazing 🤌
Man, I'm loving this man's energy!
in the game, alot of this piece of music shifts between different sections of the track depending on which part of the level you are in and how many enimies you are fighting at the time, amoung other things, so alot of the transitions have to be as seemless as possible whilst also dealing with quick or abript pauses to it actually can be dynamic enough to fit into the game, it was a method he started using with DOOM (2016) and perfected in DOOM Eternal, thats why his transitions have so much effort put into them and why the song switches from downtime to full on hectic uptime so offten.
Specific actions you take will also temporarily alter the pacing and temporarily pause the soundtrack in dramatic fashion for a second or so... hard to say when your playing since your just in a flow state from the game feeling like it's in rhythm with you. As a musician and someone who enjoys listening to the birds it seems to give me familiar call and response sort of sensation... not as strongly as when jamming with someone but for an algorithm in a video game to evoke that at all... simply blows my mind. Reinforcing this is the fact that the same section will sound and feel dramatically different based on playstyle, I'm not sure if this is just due to the how many enemies are near rule but regardless the way it feels tailored to you no matter how aggressively or cautiously you approach a level is truly something to behold.
Haven't played DOOM Eternal yet, glad to hear they pushed this technique even farther there and hoping it will be at least as good as the first one overall! I also hope this will encourage game developers to continue to get more creative with how they use soundtracks and audio in games.
You should definetely listen to OST version of this track. It's even better.
Yes will do that also, Thanks for watching.
The Music Recording Network looking forward. Thank you for the great reaction anyway! And your BFG Division's reaction was awesome too.
Yep, the one you listenned here is not the best version, check the_kovic channel!
Fr
Ye, OST version alot better
I love how without playing the game the music is amazing but when you hear it in game in the middle of battle...
I DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW TO DESCRIBE IT

You actually got an incomplete product on this video. You wanna find the version of 'The Only Thing They Fear Is You' that he finished mixing.
ruclips.net/video/C5m_ndVdA_s/видео.html
Please Review the Actual OST Version mixed by Mick Gordon. You almost can't compare the two. It's insane. I'd love to see your reaction to that. The one you heard in this video is just not even comparable to the actual track.
I Think someone else posted it but just in case here is a video I know is the original OST. the guy who posted this actually posted the Entire OST in a live stream. ruclips.net/video/5XbLY7IIqkY/видео.html
"11" is just the track number of the song on the OST release. The track is called "BFG Division". Also, listen to the other commenters here - you're reacting to the version mixed by the sound engineer at the game company, and not the version mixed by Mick himself. The reason the game company (id Software) mixed versions themselves is because Mick was taking too long to do his mixes for the gold release of the OST on CD. (the story is more complicated than that, though)
Listen to the real OST one, this was pregame ost, the ost that came out after the games release is so much more better and rich
Casual heavy metal beats to relax and study to, and then getting into a fight with an entire crowd of people
A lot of people foolishly believe metal music is just being as loud and fast as possible, but that's not true. Metal is an amazing genre of music that allows for so much creative freedom and possibilities. Underrated genre of music because loud and unique doesn't sell as much anymore. Now, it's machines and rapping about the hood. What happened to Metallica, Slayer and Pantera?!
There is bad metal, we just can't hear it over the good shit.
listen to Bleeding Red to have something "new"; sadly their had only one album in 2013
"Waitin' for the drop!... Or maybe it don't" - happily mistaken
had to throw on my headphones for that bass solo! great video!!

I don't comment often, but I've been a long time listener, and you are absolutely my favorite reaction youtuber on RUclips. You give all music a fair chance, and generally show off your skill as a producer/music lover. Thanks for everything you do, my friend!
Maybe check out Mick Gordon - Rip & Tear if you liked this :D I promise, its heavy and Djenty :o
He has recorded it right after recording this one. Watch for it to be released soon.
@@TheRealDjBasha WOW thanks for that info :) i am already excited :O
The intro of this song is so amazing.
Love your real reactions they're so genuine and they speak volumes.
It's awesome to see someone who really appreciates the amount of work Mick puts into his productions! His work is absolutely outstanding. Its technical and precise while being completely raw and brutal at the same time. If you've watched the few videos he's made on the making of the Doom soundtrack, you can see the level of musical understanding, electronics understanding but mostly his ability to envision an end result and then apply his knowledge to execute on that vision perfectly...
The soundtrack is a masterclass on how to produce sound.
Took me a minute 40 to subscribe, but only because I was jamming out to the funk. Much love

Slap bass for the intro? You have my respect. I hail from the frozen wastelands of Canada
This song makes me tear up
man great review, nice to hear so much insight from you about how these songs are made,a hidden gem on youtube
Seeing you get this enthusiastic about music warms my heart, seeing you jam out that hard makes me wanna to head bang and simultaneously punch a demon in the face all while making an elaborate dance out of it. Thanks to my love of DOOM and metal in general I just discovered your channel, do you have any video's where you dissect songs in greater detail? I have an unhealthy obsession with getting into all the details of how recording artists and producers put together all the instruments, random noises, effects, filters, and mixing choices that come together to make the final product. Also if that is the amount of groove and skill you have on the bass when rusty... well I'd love to hear what you at your best sounds like.
My man just grooving on the bass
Made with Chainsaws, Pentagrams and Love
Everyone sayin’ to listen to every Mick song EXCEPT ‘Cultist Base’ which is hands down the best Doom Eternal track. Meathook and this song may be the quintessential ones but CULTIST BASE IS THE GOAT LISTEN TO IT MAN!

Your reaction is by far the best one, you definitely deserve more love
Ah, damn. This is the game-ripped version. You should check out the full, properly-mixed version; it's about 7 minutes.
There's a channel called Haydn Jeffries that has a good version of the official track.
And for a future track by Mick you should do, I'd say check out Cultist Base. I think it's almost entirely synth, no guitars at all, yet it's one of the heaviest songs in the game.
For that one, I'd also say go to Haydn Jeffries channel to find it.

Mick Gordon said on Andrew Baena's cover of the song:
"Fun Fact: All those stupid "time signature changes" are a result of someone from marketing piecing this track together without any musical knowledge.
