★ ABOUT THE VIDEO:
Join me as we dive deep into the futuristic world of PlanetSide 2 in 2025! Discover how this epic free-to-play fps continues to captivate gamers with big battles and relentless multiplayer action. But is PlanetSide 2 still worth playing in this new era of gaming, and how is Planetside 2 doing in 2025?
PlanetSide 2 is a free-to-play massively multiplayer online first-person shooter developed by Rogue Planet Games and published by Daybreak Game Company (Sony Online Entertainment). The game supports battles with thousands of players and incorporates modern first-person shooter mechanics. Six different infantry classes and over 18 ground and air vehicles are available to players and interact on the battlefield to simulate combined arms warfare. As a re-imagining of PlanetSide, PlanetSide 2 chronicles the efforts of three factions fighting for territorial control of the planet Auraxis.
Along with its prequel, PlanetSide 2 is one of the very few MMOFPS games to have ever released, and is presently considered the most successful title in the genre. ForgeLight, a proprietary game engine, is used to support high player counts while retaining performance and graphical fidelity. PlanetSide 2 operates on a games as a service business model and is supported by microtransaction purchases. Since its launch, the game has received regular updates which have introduced new content and mechanics.
PlanetSide 2 received positive attention from critics and was praised for its scale, innovation, and graphics, but some reviewers were divided over the game's free-to-play model, technical glitches, and difficulty for new players. PlanetSide 2 currently holds the Guinness World Record for "Most players in an online FPS battle," which was set when 1,158 players were recorded in a single battle during an official event. This record has since been beaten in both 2020 and 2022, with even higher player counts being recorded on the game's live servers.

13 years old and still going strong should get a remake from a big studio in the style of Helldivers 2
That would have been nice! Guess we have to wait and see now what happens with PS2 since Toadman Interactive is being shut down.
I honestly was disappointed with helldivers 2. More disappointed with myself for buying the game.
@@american_chevy616 Why are you disappointed in it?
@@Adoring-Fan the constant crashes and gameplay. Got old really quick.
@@american_chevy616 damn your dopamine fried. You wouldn’t like l4d2 then lol. And that game is still going strong
there is unfortunately still no other game like this
the mechanics are top notch and the combined arms continuous conquest gameplay is completely unmatched by any other game that exists today
i hope someone will come along one day and creates a game in the spirit of ps2 to take up its mantle
Well spoken. I've said it before and I say it again; I'm surprised that no one has "copied" the Planetside 2 concept. I believe a massive sci fi battlefield alike gameplay experience, would be attractive also in 2025.
@@40splishsplash imaging helldiver with this scale......
@@congvothanh2845 just had the same thoughts
One of the best thing in the game is the scale of the teamwork and how you can Blitzkrieg with a convoy of hundreds of players or get dropped from the air as chaos erupts. There's no other game that gives such a feeling and 2000 players on the same map is just insane. The game got the record (and beat it 2 or 3 times since) of " Most players in an online FPS battle "
Thanks for your comment, you describe some true Planetside 2 moments really well :)
It’s still fun, just fielded a platoon
Nice to hear that you're also still enjoying PS2!
Nailed it. This game offers an experience you can't get elsewhere
Thanks for your feedback, appreciated!
Planetside is noteworthy also one of those games, where while FPS is without doubt main focus, you can also choose other aspects game has to offer, such as piloting ESFs (entirely different thing than ground combat), providing fire support with vehicles (with recent gun tweaking, especially ESTs are really badass), and even total slackers can have their use with smart placed triage stations and recon radars (one may be surprised about how useful one flash with scout radar and with triage speced medic can be. These little things can often turn the tide entirely and even if not, it´s a great farm)
Thanks for your comment! True that, there's quite some variety if you really think about it. Haven't thought about flash with scout radar and with triage speced medic before :)
This game rocks and there needs to be more eyes on it. Please play it guys
I agree; try it out :)
After Taking Over PlanetSide 2 Development Last Year, Toadman Will Close After Completing Contracts, the future of PlanetSide 2 is as-yet unknown.
Wow. Do you know when this will take place?
@@40splishsplash
We are uncertain, but Toadman Developers started laying off a portion of its employees. That's the reason the future of Planetside 2 is now unclear.

This moment is no longer just rumor; it's a reality.
@@norman4588 Yes, I know. I just read a post about it.
I love PS2, played on and off since 2012 - but it's not the same anymore, because the new "devs" decided to reduce the max population on each continent to increase server stability.
Still the best massive all out warfare shooter, but it's not comparable to the escalation update times and the huge increase in players/clans.
Thanks for your feedback! Even so, I hope that the game continues to be available, since Toadman Interactive is being shut down.
When it first came out, I played nonstop and then I took breaks and played other games and then I went back and played planet side. Last time I was on was two years ago and I have to say it’s one of those games that I truly love but it’s unfortunate that the developers really didn’t do much more After some odd years.
Thanks for your feedback! Yes it is a unique experience and shooter. Right now, everything is a bit uncertain, since Toadman Interactive is being shut down.
Great video! I was just wondering about that. Unfortunately I still don't have time to play, but I miss this game. I hope it lasts for many more years.
Thanks for your positive feedback! Yes, it's always hard to be able to sit down and play some videogames, I know hat you mean :)
Playstation is slowly dropping. When i started in 2016 we had over 11,000 peek players 6,000 avg. Now peek is 2,000 to the avg being around 900 or less. The old players are keeping it alive but slowly going.
Thanks for your comment and feedback! I hope it doesn't go much lower than that.

@@CPTBats FACTS…I started in 2017-18…hadn’t played up until 2024. Notice the difference I do (in a Yoda voice)
The game on console was definitely fun 2015-2018 but definitely started dying close to 2020 and now where it is, depressing.
I played it on PC and it legit feels dead too, years ago the game was great due to the player count.
I love old time players but when I can barely do anything against more experienced players it kills any interest even for my favorite combined arms game.
It's still the best game for me. I started playing on 2014 Korean server, and I started playing on Soltech server in 2023. I'm playing on Emerald Server now. I hope anyone reading this comment doesn't waste their time on Soltech Server.

Awesome! Yes, go ahead and play some Planetside 2 once more :) By the way; I'm an "old" gamer as well
it's FREE, just download and PLAY!

Am i the only one who plays daily and isnt dealing with hackers?
I don't think so. I'm not playing PS2 on a daily basis, but it's quite rare that I stumbled upon a cheater in PS2. Only a few times over the years I've been playing.
i rarely run into a true cheater in ps2
PL is still a very own thing and i love it.
Nice to hear that!
Don't forget about the PS5! My only two problems are the out dated graphics and hackers.
Thanks for your feedback :)
Why hasn't this game come to Xbox One back when the PS4 did?
Will Planetside 2 make its way to the upcoming Switch 2? (Can you imagine the player count on that?)
I don't really know. Guess it's licenses/deals, that makes it possible or not. It should have been good though for the game to also be available for Xbox gamers.
There are zero issues with hit reg as it is clientside (hense why its so easy to cheat). A lot of players just dont understand gunplay mechanics in the game which doesn't help it get new players. You cant just hold your trigger and expect to hit anything like that. Plus new players dont know how much of difference headshots make and how easy they are to hit in this game. You may be shooting enemy without letting go of trigger, but he just put a controlled burst into your head and thats it. You can hear the ding when your dome gets hit so you know what happened. And its not just x2 damage, there are a lot more possible modifiers that bring that x2 to more like x2.5 or even x3.
Thanks for your input and feedback! You got some important points regarding the gunplay mechanics!
Dont understand why noone has made a PS3 or another studio making a similar game. Think people really want a mmofps.
I've been thinking the same :)
There shouldnt be a favorite class in this game that is the way to play it wrong. For an example in a 50+ fight the other team usually keeps point buildings safe. You need infils to dominate sightlines of doors and make the way safe to move forward for your team, you need medics for the push, engis, heavies and maxes to go inside and a light assault to annoy the enemy with flashbangs and keep them occupied from camping the doors. You always need to see what other people are doing and get a class that should achieve more for your team in that situation.
I saw many instances where the whole team are medics and everyone just keep right clicking with a medigun so the team cant achieve anything even in a 60/40 overpop.
Also when defending vehicle pushes there are lots of people just trying to snipe that one guy behind a hill instead of switching to heavy and make the damage needed to repell vehicles.
Thanks for your comment and feedback! I believe it can be good if you're new to the game, to start out with maybe one or two classes, in order to learn the game and upgrade those classes. But it is indeed a good thing to get the know how also with the rest of the classes. Not only for the sake of your team and the different situations you'll find yourself in, but also because it's more fun when getting that variation, playing with different classes as well :)
Rip Connery, you weill be missed. Long live Emernery/Connerald.. Toadman is RIP, things ain't looking good for this franchise. My hope is for someone to pick up the torch and make PS 3 when PS 2 finally ends.
Thanks for your comment! I just heard about Toadman Interactive, since I've been away from the game for some time. I need to look into that, hope there's some more news about it soon.
that had such a lousy battle plan for this game.. when it could have just been consistently overhauled improved and kept current and alive well into the future. its the type of game that you just keep around and you keep it going . the sky is the limit shoulda been the motto with intent to have a ongoing and improving game world to make themselves some better revenue.. look at games like warframe, path of exile and now path of exile 2.. free to play but extreme longevity bc of development interests regarding the future.. why didnt they do this with ps2? well, i think they didnt think about planetsides future but they are thinking about their own pockets, not the game..when the game was the key to it all.. they failed..
Honestly, what I find most annoying about Planetside 2 are the hacks, they do too much damage to the experience of all parties involved.
Thanks for your comment! I hope they continue to improve their ways of tracking down cheaters/hacks. It is a plague in so may online games nowadays (unfortunately).
Honestly the blatant cheaters are pretty much gone as of a few months ago. As for those people who may feel like you can’t tell if it’s cheating or skills, it most likely skills. The game is old and has many decade+ veterans who focus on the fps aspects
@@espanadorada7962 Good saying! I believe that's often the case as well.
Still a great game
It sure is!
Every single time i try to come back this game it quickly reminds me why i stopped playing. Blatant hackers and cheaters are running rampage every match.
Not to mention, if you're not already equipped fairly well you're just at a massive disadvantage now.
Thanks for your comment! Sorry to hear that, since I haven't been running into that many hackers lately. (Playing on Miller/Cobalt).
@ Thanks for your comment! Isn't that how it is with most games? I know though that Planetside 2 can be extra tough when starting out as a newcomer.
How? I looked on every website for planetside 2 cheats and could not find any. Maybe only one platform and its sus might even be a scam. And I know where to look...
@ I guess that's good, indicating that it's not so common with Planetside 2 cheats, after all.
Any news since the projected dissolve of Toadman Interactive?
No one seems to really know what that means, since they acquired the rights.
I guess they themselves are a subsidiary of Enad Global, so they MIGHT pass the rights on to some other studio they have..
Thanks for your comment! Since I've been away from Planetside 2 for some time, I was honestly not aware that Toadman Interactive might not continue to develop Planetside 2. I'll try to dive in and see what I find about it.
i guess either they'll continue with the remaining dev of this studio or contract with an other, the ip have been aquired recently and new dev seems to try more thing that previous one on the latest years so i guess its not the end yet, if more people join the game it should encourage them to continue
@@shaezbreizh86 Thanks for saying! Yes, I hope you're right, and I also hope that as many as possible try out PS2 :)

went back to dirty bomb after 8 yrs and it installed only in 6gb. idk why games today are the size of jupiter
Cool that you installed Dirty Bomb once more. Also one of those game that I go back and play once in a while. Yeah, modern games requires your whole hard drive, lol
Dependant on the game's scope. Dirty Bomb is small and relatively simple in it's scope, only having 8 tiny maps. A game like Planetside 2 has 4 massive maps with 1000s of individual assets and is still only 17GB when unpacked and installed. Most contemporary games are a lot larger due to much higher resolutions for textures, and also more advanced graphics (mip and bump mapping, ray tracing etc.) Games are VASTLY more complex today than they were even 10 years ago.
@@ArmitageShanksMC Yes, Planetside 2 is small compared to many other modern games. I'm thinking foremost about games such as Call of Duty, as an example. People with small hard drives is having a hard time to have more than one game installed at a time, lol.
@@40splishsplash From what I've read, COD just refuses to Compress audio files. Plus you have at this point four years of store packs that everyone has to download for Timmy on warzone using it.
the today game size is due to textureS resolutions ( it often have multiple resolution for a same textures such as 512,1024,2046 etc and a texture is just not a diffuse one but come with bump, height, spec, etc so its multiple file for just one texture ), as well than the 3D model complexity ( before game model were lowpoly but nowaday they can be highpoly and go from few hundreds to few thousands polygons, or even dozen of thousand to millions in some case ). This is most likely these files wich take the most space , but other files also have increased in quality overtime
Still playing daily.
Nice to hear that!

toadman has closed. the game is unfortunately dead. there will be no more updates. its not worth getting into planetside 2 anymore unfortunately which is a shame. this game was so much fun back in the day.
Thanks for your comment! I just heard about this, especially since I've been away from the game a few months. But other people making comments says that it's still unclear what will happen with Planetside 2 atm. Will there be another dev team taking over? I'll try to find some more info as well.

Thanks for your comment and feedback!
this game is awful for new players been trying to get it into it for a week always wanted to try it but its just not fun. My guns just don't seem to kill anyone you just get spawn kill ed constantly its just boring and disappointing as I always enjoyed battle field growing up
Yes, the game can be quite unforgiving in the beginning when starting out. If you even so decide to continue to play, I advice you to focus on maybe on or two classes to start with that you enjoy playing, and rank up their gear and weapons. There's plenty of old but pretty valuable tutorials (still) on RUclips that has some good tips regarding this. I personally it was worth it, going through that first initial phase of learning the game, but that might not be the case for you.
The in-game tutorial needs urgent improvement.
@@VeryOwO I totally agree.
Wish this game would die so we can get a PS3.
Not sure though if the death of PS2 would actually give us a new Planetside game. Especially since there's instability at the moment on the developer side of things.
@40splishsplash It would take several years after it died, so with this limbing along the whole time there is no demand for a shooter like it or no one is gonna work on PS series. PS2 is a rotting zombie of a game mostly because of the great community in spite of developers best efforts to push everyone away.
This is the game where the Devs were allowing their friends/guildies to hack and they were running around in packs of 20-40, all aimbotting and wallhacking.
Thanks for your comment! That doesn't sound good at all...
lol played since like 6 or 7 years and never saw such thing ..., what you describe is most likely an outfit (multiple squad working together with voice chat) that often play the game (active daily or weekly), and most of them since many many many years (veteran) so they know literally all mecanic, all offensive path and way to counter X situation, what weaps to use and how they work, that have maxed their implant and other charac stuff or vehicle etc etc in addition to get a way better teamwork than average squad, with potentialy overpop on the base attacked/defended.
The " wallhacking " you describe is probably either the server getting unstable ( wich happen from time to time ) or yourself lagging so the time you receive enemy hit he is already back behind cover ( ensure you choose the server that suit the best your location, Miller if yu european, Emerald if american etc ).
I recommend you to not stay alone and join an outfit as soon as possible ( many are open to newbie), this way not only you learn way faster how to play the game and gain experience/cert faster, but you'll also get a lot of help by being assisted by teamate that follow the same objectiv
The game can be hard for newbie that are not used to fps or such scale battle, it take some time to improve your stuff or your gameplay but its doable and not P2W at all ( just use your cert in equipement/implant/upgrade and not in weaps unless you really want one, of for vehicule one)
do you still have to pay to play with friends? thats the reason i quit
I've more or less been playing by myself (alone), through the years. I think it has worked out pretty well.
the only paying stuff are cosmetic and xp boost, the game is not P2W at all and litteraly a mmo so your friend can join you without problem, i just recommand you to play in an existing outfit instead of creating your with your friend, at least at the beggining the time you guys progress
I played PlanetSide 2 between 2013-2015 and 2017-2020, and I’ve been playing it continuously since 2022. In my opinion, what started to kill the game was the graphical downgrade introduced 6 or 7 years ago and the map changes in later updates. Removing the bio labs from Esamir, in particular, made me really angry. In the following years, the addition of the new ANT vehicle and the construction update significantly changed the game. And now, they’ve shut down the American servers, forcing the remaining players to migrate to Miller. As a result, we constantly have to wait in queues while warping between continents :D The player count has decreased, but somehow the servers are still overcrowded :D
Thanks for your comment and feedback! You got some good points, and yes, it sounds a bit weird that you have to wait in order to get into a game. But I guess they "narrowed down" the matchmaking, now when Cobalt and Miller has been merged. So even though the player count is more or less the same, it still gets crowded at certain times. A bit odd, indeed.
American servers are def still up
@@espanadorada7962 Good to hear that. Got a bit worried :)
@@espanadorada7962 The server that was shut down was the Cobalt server, I confused it with Connery, sorry.

They dont explain fucking anything about abilities,Gun customizing,How to earn certs its a god damn travesty a game that looks this fun can be absolutely the most miserable experience I've had since dark souls 2
I totally agree. They need to make at least good(!) tutorial, so that new players are introduced into the game in a better and more understandable way.
@40splishsplash hard agree. I Love watching it but playing it is clearly not for me since I dont really have any friends to begin with so maybe there was an oversight on my part as far as that goes but like, they never explained Implants or nothing-And honestly the BIGGEST ISSUE!? I quit because Being told I have to pay money just to respawn is such a Middle finger to the face. Sorry I dont have a buddy with a sunderer 100% of the time. But yeah,Im alot more even headed now but I totally agree the new player experience is absolutely horrid and it sucks a game that has a very noche charm for large scale unison skirmishes whether by land or air can look so god damn fun and also cant even justify itself to keep playing. We get objectives cool,I go to do an objective OH WAIT ✋️ You have to sprint there on foot and getting ROFLSTOMPED by every vehicle in the game that you can't escape from. It's unbelievably absurd if anything they should make BR20 and lower have its own dedicated map before you can jump into the actual faction war that is the core of the game to earn certs and get a hang of it instead of getting spawncamped by a BR93 for 15 spawns straight. I have had plenty of "Oh wow My performance was not up to par Idk how I whiffed that" Moments in my gaming career but it just feels like while Im waiting to just respawn I just marinate in the "You are worthless. You achieved nothing no matter how many times you tried to help Vanu allies take X Base. You got laser beamed for the 18th time without a ghost of a chance." Is what broke me. I have never felt more worthless as a player than the first few hours of this game.
@ Thanks for the extended feedback! You're right about many things. Right now the whole situation when it comes to the future of the game is insecure since Toadman Interactive (the studio), is being shut down. Guess we have to wait some to see what they decide to do regarding Planetside 2.
Holy shit I didnt mean to make an essay god damn
@@40splishsplash so I have put in a full 22 Hours on this game,And Still not impressed. Spawn Timer is still incredibly annoying and really feels like Without the subscription that its just annoying and miserable. All in all, Not for me.

@@40splishsplash and also unecessarily steam and its relevant process'
I believe that more people are able to play games overall if they're on a platform such as Steam. A win win situation. Goes for Planetside 2 as well.
Maybe when its newer but ps2 has been around for many years. Most players do not use steam for ps2. Thats newbie in a way like people using steam to play path of exile. this is not P2W just a bit slow but nothing terrible once you know how to farm cert and the game mecanic. The best for newbie is joining an outfit asap and start with support class or vehicule, and put your cert in every upgrade and not in new weaps ( starting weaps are among the best most of time , other are more for specific approach and can wait before being unlocked except few (like the one that have an underbarrel G-L for exemple ) except maybe A-I vehicule weaps
About snipe, it traumatise newbie cause of the cloack and the fact there is some much people on a map that yu dont know where to hide but dont worry once you know the mecanic and the maps they became a minor annoyance and are not that numerous nor good ( the only boring one are the few rare good CQC bolter xS)
