I get so frustrated listening to Burr's podcast now. He gets sooooo close, and then defaults to "both sides." I think he truly needs to be educated on the rise of fascism throughout history, and why "they're all the same" could not be further from the truth.
I suspect it's a part of his career strategy. Pretty sure his wife is left leaning and keeps him in check. Probably the main reason he mostly has good takes. But he doesn't want to be pigeonholed into a box. Especially in today's climate where everyone and everything has become partisan politics. It's a smart strategy, really. As a comedian, you want everybody buying your tickets. Not just leftists. Ya know?
You could listen to something else if you feel offended or triggered by anything he says. Personally, I think he’s the GOAT and can do no wrong in my view.
Johnny Depp was never the same. Even after winning. Still a Bill Burr fan. He calls them right, while being a normal person. We all have bad takes sometimes. No big deal. Doesn't change how level headed he is.
Yea, the JD thing is STILL a source of ENDLESS gaslighting and blind ideology following with my liberal friends. No nuance, they didn't follow the trial, etc. I bought in too initially, but was completely flipped as i watched every hour of that trial. It remains a constant source of liberal L's when they continue to act or think JD was the bad guy in that situation.
@@coolio2000What a dumb take. Idk what else to say. Maybe you've only seen a few of his takes, but he unironically lands on and defends what are considered not just liberal but progressive/leftist positions on many things he talks about. He's always impressing by being an open minded guy.
@@yourneighborhoodfriendlyme4242 I guess i feel like most of his comedy is nowadays based in extremely tribal material. Basically ugh millenials and gen x good. I guess that feels like uneasy starting ground. I don't doubt that some of the stuff he says politically is based on his own desires to do genuine good, however i feel like lots of the stuff i've seen comes from an egotistical place instead of one of care and respect. I don't dislike the man, however the way he talks about stuff feels like it contains an element of arrogance that a lot of celebrities have that pivots to something more sinister later on even if they aren't bad people (Roseanne Barr for example). It’s hilarious all these comedians grew up in a time where they saw Howard Stern being fined millions by the federal government because of shit he said but they’re going to pretend cancel culture and people being offended is some brand new phenomenon to American culture. I can’t wait for comedians to stop constantly crying and whining behind such lazy and terrible comedy about cancel culture

The only yapping that I've heard him do about it is the fact that he hasn't been. And that nobody can. Which was true when he said it and still true now.
He doesn't say he's been cancelled and he's absolutely right that y'all are the worst audience. If you get offended by jokes maybe don't go to or watch stand up comedy shows

Can you guys take an actual stance on cancel culture instead of just saying they shouldn’t complain about it. Like the second a comedian mentions it all the leftist immediately turn around and say “hack comedian” when in reality there’s much hakier material than talking about cancel culture.
One of the things I love about Burr is that he doesn’t brag about his wealth like a lot of comedians. He actually understands what it’s like to be a blue collar worker and sympathizes with them.

i cant blame bill burr for being the way he is. every comedian has incidents where their joke turns a lot of people off. i mean, eddie murphy? he was all about the F slur (even though when I listen to those old specials of his they're still funny). people need to suspend their personal feelings for an hour when they're going to see or listen to a comedian. sure bill comes off insensitive and crass a lot but who cares? just don't listen to bill burr. there are like thousands of other choices to listen to, lots of them play it safe and won't offend most people.

I don’t think it’s a bad take. The reason I like Bill Burr is because he goes after the ridiculousness on BOTH SIDES! And if you don’t think there is ridiculousness on the left then you need to pull your head out of the sand and extract yourself from the cult. By the way, this is an old clip. He regularly pushes back on comedians going off about cancel culture these days.

The only GOAT is George Carlin. He was on another level... his content, his delivery, his worldview (e.g. avoid "punching down" etc), how he built on the work of others. Not saying Bull Burr isn't good... he is... he's very insightful and intelligent, but he's not one of the greats. Maybe I am just getting older, but the whole LGBT/pronoun stuff, gender wars, etc. has just lost its steam... it's a road too well trodden. Like so much in life from music, to video games, to architecture, to movies, to car design is just so lacking in originality that it's quite frankly boring.
You folks always use the term punching up/down as if that's some prerequisite to comedy. It's not, no thing and no one is beyond being made fun of. You can talk about Carlin all you want, but I listened to one of his early stand-ups in the 70's where he's calling gay people fa**ots.
