guys, you could upload a 6 hour video talking about an obscure kind of silent poetry in a language I don't understand and I would still watch every second with subtitles -- but talking about fish for hours is where I draw the line ;)
I have been obsessed with this book series getting some sort of an adaptation my whole life.
You have recently become my new favorite podcast, and this was one of my favorite series as a teenager (along with the abhorsen series). I initially found this podcast in hopes that I was not the only person who didn't love the acotar series. I came for the mutual hate and stayed for the mutual love.

So, I'm writing from the UK so I'm not sure if anyone in the US would have heard of this author but she is an extremely successful children's author here and she was my favourite author growing up. Her name is Jaqueline Wilson, she rights standalone children's books and I always preferred them growing up because they were more realistic. Other children's books were very alienating for me because they were typically all happy and full of rainbows and stuff like that and that just wasn't what my life looked like at all. But her books had things in that a lot of other authors steered clear of putting into children's books back then, like one book the main character had a best friend that died and the book explored that. One of her most successful and popular books had a main character who was a biracial girl who was in a foster home that she always called 'the dumping ground'. The author is 78 years old now, and still writing children's books to this day. I've never actually re-read any of the books that I loved of hers now that I'm an adult but I have amazingly fond memories of them and the author is now a Dame because of the impact she had on sooo many children's lives who's realities were very rarely represented in books.
UK buddy, hi! I lived on Jacqueline Wilson growing up and you're right, they did deal with all sorts of living situations that represented real kids out there. I cant believe she's still going i feel like she was old my whole life 😂
@@HushIAmTalking I know! She was definitely elderly when I was reading her books as a kid, and she’s still going. She was basically my entire childhood, I loved her books they were just different than most kids books during that time. Like even though she was writing for kids, her books weren’t condescending and she didn’t shy away from difficult real life topics just because we were kids. Some of her books really helped me understand things in my own life like grief and stuff like that. But I haven’t gone back and read any of them again, I wonder if I will still love them? Maybe I should give it a go and reminisce

I have to agree with will about the ending. It does feel....weird to basically end the world and then have copies of everyone you have ever known.

I don't know if this series is going to be for me since it is a more distant voice but I am willing to try reading them because you both love it, after all you all #ranked it so high.

Lord Sunday was far too existential for me when I was reading it as a 13 year old and was by far my least favourite of the books. I had read through the first 6 loads of times before Lord Sunday came out and I am not sure I have ever done a full reread since.
Now being in my mid 20’s I may appreciate it more and these two videos have insisted that an adult reread has to go on my reading list for this year!
You guys are my favorite podcast and I also happened to really love this series like a decade ago so I was absolutely excited waiting for this

Wait! I am back to say that in terms of fantasy I read in secondary school - the Chaos Walking Series is great (the film does not exist and can't hurt me).
But a lesser known (i think) series that was my entire personality was The Looking Glass wars trilogy. The politicking & world set up in the last one would be appreciated by you guys I think.
p.s please bear in mind i have not reread any of this in a decade 😅

ok I just got to the lust part and the 'experiencing' and agree, its not lust. So, I sat and thought about it for like 5 minutes -- how could you do lust in a children's book, do children experiencing a type of innocent lust? and I thought it would be kind of cool if he used the idea of infatuation instead, because both adults and children experience infatuation and it is arguably a type of lust, the only difference is that in adults lust and infatuation come with sex and with children it doesn't. I didn't think any deeper than that about how you would use that in the book, but even if you kept the whole idea of experiencing, maybe she only focuses on childhood memories of innocent crushes? or even teenage first loves because typically those are infatuations and a type of lust. and that was 5 minutes, and Garth Nix I am not, I refuse to believe he couldn't do something amazing with this concept with just a little bit of type thinking about it.
Fish! Also, if u do feel like dipping your toes into middle grade, what about the Spiderwick Chronicles? You'd have to read it physically cuz the pictures are half the joy of it, but they're so so short. About an hour reading time per book

#ranked !! Another middle-grade/young YA series i liked that i would be fascinated to hear your opinions on is the Maximum Ride series by James Patterson. Ive always felt like the first 3 books are really solid and kinda stand by themselves but then theres 6 more books that are a bit of a roller coaster so itd be interesting to hear a “critical” perspective on them.

I really like the way you guys interpreted the ending of this series. It's very poignant, thinking about Architect Arthur giving child Arthur that opportunity, I really enjoyed the conversation on this series. I didn't hate the ending. It feels like there's a deeper layer with Arthur deciding not to change the world as in a realization of how complicated things are and how you just can't take one thing out and expect all else to remain the same.
Also, I super love the idea that the Will was the Architect! It fits so well with the biblical references in such a subtle way as in God willed the Universe into existence. I'm an absolute sucker for this kind of thing. Also also, just as a tidbit, the idea of days becoming personas is in my country's folklore and fairytales. They appear like helpful old ladies (Holy Friday, Holy Sunday) that help the MC towards his quest goal.
I read this as a child and it was so creepy to me lol especially because it was so subtle
I don't actually like fish, but I'm commenting about them all the same!
Please force them to read 'The Blade Itself' by Joe Abercrombie, if they haven't already XD
