Does a recovery partition count? I have followed your video transferring my system reserved file into the same disk as my OS but now I have four partitions: My OS Drive, another usable partition, my system reserved, and recovery drive. Is this the reason why my conversion won't work?
If I extend drive G (or any other adjacent drive) so that it also takes up the unallocated space, will personal files in drive G be deleted? Please help me. Thanks in advance.
Hello, I got the error; cannot find os partition for disk 2. What should I try next? I had too many partitions, so I deleted the others and left only two. Those are, system reserved and the c: drive partition.
The UEFI standard has been around from somewhere in the 2005/2010 period, so "if your machine is 8 to 10 years old" in 2019, there is a good chance it has UEFI.
My 1st gen i7 and 4th gen i5 both have UEFI options. First gen i7 is on a Dell precision M4500 laptop and my I-5 was on a MSI Z87-G45 motherboard. Both of them support UEFI but I believe only the i5 system had the TPM.
Do you have registration code for Stellar Phoenix Data Recovery or Recoveryit? Just need to retrieve important files on the disk F that become the DVD after rebooting and might did something with the partition due to the malware that I had to remove. Now, Ican retrieve the old files but not the files for this year and last year files

Can the recovery partition cause, that I receive the same "Disk layout validation failed for disk 0" message? Deleting recovery can help to perform this conversation?
Almost a great video. Not quite great because it didn't work for me, sadly. I got as far as "mbr2gpt /convert /allowFullOS" and waited, and then: Conversion failed. Cannot creat EFT system partition. Didn't work with two partitions, increased them to three and it still gave can't find os. I'm thinking the system drive at the front stops it finding it.

hi, if i have the windows on disk 1, how can i make disk1 as active, it fails with that command. i dont' want to lose data from disk 0, so just convert disk 1 where windows is.
Thank you very much. This was quite helpful in getting a couple of my machines up on Windows 11 by only ignoring the processor. I do have another question, if you can advise me on a similar procedure for Windows Server 2012 R2. I have a pair of home built machines with GUID capability setup a number of years ago as Server 2003, then upgraded to Server 2008 and then Server 2012 R2. Through these transitions MBR was adequate, but now I want to add some 4TB drives which require GPT. I setup a test box after a power outage killed one of my servers, breaking completely one drive in my raid 1 set and damaging the other. A lot of chkdsk got the damaged drive in to good enough shape where I could grab the system off and make a clone with another 1TB drive, so the flaky disk became a test bed. Not finding this utility anywhere for Server I tried the Windows 10 version and it validated ok and then appeared to run successfully. However the drive could no longer boot and kept trying to complete a boot repair. BCDEdit indicated a setup that seemed should work and a startup repair from the troubleshoot system function failed also, so no smiles. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thanks and best regards, Ken
Update Continued research while awaiting more info. This still seemed a reasonable solution so I refreshed my test copy and retried. This time successfully. Part of the desired end system was 2 TB system drives. After I had transferred the system to a 2TB test drive I expanded the data portion. I believe this prevented the MBR2GPT utility from seeing excess space for the UFI portion. On this retry I waited until after the utility had succeeded to expand this data space. And that seemed to allow it to run properly. Thanks for any thoughts and efforts to assist!!! Regards, Ken
Hi sir. How i find out that my laptop dell d630. (Windows 10.it's now legacy mode ) to support to convert, and change legacy mode to uefi ? Because i tried twice and failed. @IT Army: Could you kindly help me get this conversion error fixed?: "cannot find room for the efi system partition". I have a 4TB SSD and disk space is distributed as follows: - a system-reserved partition with 100MB -a data partition storing windows, programs, games etc with 465.17 GB - a recovery partition with 501 MB - two unassigned non partition sections with around 1.5 and 1.6 TB each. How do I ensure a successful conversion now? Thank you very much!
Check the disk partition style. I guess your disk is already GPT because MBR supports maximum 2 partition. RIght click the unassigned partitions and create volume.
Came here after a long struggle to convert from legacy to uefi and finally found the correct video. Thanks man it helped me to change to uefi. This video will be helpful to a lot of people now that Windows 11 is a thing.

i have a problem while following the steps mentioned in your video. In setuperr file it's showing index 2 the same way in your video it was showing index 3. I have only two partion of my drive. Plz help to resolve this.
It doesn't work for me, my local disk is disk 4, also if I try it with programs it tells me: invalid configure file or the system partition and boot are on different disks, I don't understand anything.
Hi thanks for the video but it still did not work for me. Conversation failed (cannot find room for EFI system partition) tried to create a third partion but apparently I don't have any spare space to create it. Even though I have 78gb available. Modern system Any suggestions?

Excellent video, but it did not work for me. On Disk 1, I have the OS in the C: partition. As your video shows, I created a new volume/partition. I had two; you had three; I do not have a System Reserve volume on Disk 1. When I try 'mbr2gpt /validate /disk:1 /allowfullos' I still get the error "Disk layout validation failed for disk 0." Both my partitions are Type 7. (I tried a variety of partitioning, none worked).
I have 3 different disk drives with 3 different partitions (C, D and E). One partition for each physical disk drive. My disk drive that has windows in it only has one partition. Is that ok or do i need to reduce my total no. of partitions?
Hi I'm facing an issue with the conversion. Apparently my system partition is in my Disk 0 while my boot partition is in Disk 1. I'm trying to convert my Disk 1 because that's the SSD disk so any idea if its possible for me to create or shift the system partition into my Disk 1? Thanks man.
My problem is that my disk 0 looks just like yours at the beginning of your video; I go to the shift/restart and computer restarts i get to command prompt x:\ type in mbr2gpt.exe /convert AND STILL I get the validation error. And I do have 21H2.

hey bro i watched your video and i have just three partitions and it still keeps telling me the same error. it's all in disk 0 and win, win backup and efi system partition is all i have. can you please help me with this?
so i have 4 partitions: System Reserved, C: drive, Recovery Partition and D: drive. will it be safe to somehow delete the recovery partition so i can convert?
Hi. I'm only having four primary partitions c:, e:, recovery partition and system reserved partition. Yet the mbr2gpt validation fails. I'm having a lenovo ideapad 330 machine. what are the possible reasons?
Pretty good explanation. Thank you so much. I didn't know that the details were right in from of my eyes. I missed the point that the MBR disk had a logical volume in my scenario. So I copied the data to the OS partition, deleted the logical partition and made sure that I only had 3 partitions. Tried converting again and boom! Converted successfully.
I also have three primary partition and one logical partition and CMD shows disk validation failed for disk 0 (system partition). Can I do this by third party software in this case?
My C:\ is split in 2 partitions. main one is 240GB and the other is a 500MB recovery partition. I get 'Wrong boot partition count, expected 1 but found 0'. I am not grasping why I need to shrink my 240GB and create a new 100GB for example. When I convert it, the end result will be that the C:\is 240GB or 140GB and d:\100GB. I want c:\ 240GB
I don't want to delete any of my partition which comes in the extended partition section, can we have another solution for this without deleting extended partition. Thanks.
Wow, you really explained it way way better than some of Microsoft employees did. I am gonna convert it, hopefully, it won't wipe out the two partitions.

hello bro need your help...I've 3 partition as like you but when validating it says "Cannot find OS partition(s) for disk 0"!!!! but my os is running from disk 0. what should I do?
You saved me money and a headache. I didn't understand why mbr2gpt wouldn't work, and 99% of the videos here try to sell software to do this. Just shrinking my main partition on disk 0 did the trick, as it made space for the UEFI partition (which apparently only needs 100Mb). Thank you.
Thank you for sharing the tutorial. I tired following it and i got this as a final message: ..... conversion complete successfully winReRepair to repair WinRe Failed to update ReAgent.xml...... hi, if i have the windows on disk 1, how can i make disk1 as active, it fails with that command. i dont' want to lose data from disk 0, so just convert disk 1 where windows is.
Thanks and best regards,
Ken
Update
Continued research while awaiting more info.

Ken
Hi sir.
How i find out that my laptop dell d630. (Windows 10.it's now legacy mode ) to support to convert, and change legacy mode to uefi ?
Because i tried twice and failed. First time i am totally got stuck my Windows won't start only blinking cursor on the left top corner on this screen. So install os .second time also happened same.
Thanks for taking the time to cover this... I had four partitions on my 2TB nvme.... nobody else mentions that this is the problem... Awesome video... you got a new subscriber!
Glad it helped, Thanks for sub
Almost a great video. Not quite great because it didn't work for me, sadly. I got as far as "mbr2gpt /convert /allowFullOS" and waited, and then: Conversion failed. Cannot creat EFT system partition. Error 0x000036B7. I'm still on MBR. So now I'm back to square one. On disk 0 I had 500 mb NTFS and the C: partition was 465 gb on which I then created a new partition of 500 mb. [Unallocated] so I have now 3 partitions. The validation part worked, "Validation completed successfully" but not the conversion. Can you or anybody help? I've been at this all day and it's now 10 pm. and I'll check tomorrow if anyone has read my problem. Thanks.
Very good information. Thank you!
@IT Army: Could you kindly help me get this conversion error fixed?: "cannot find room for the efi system partition".
I have a 4TB SSD and disk space is distributed as follows:
- a system-reserved partition with 100MB
-a data partition storing windows, programs, games etc with 465.17 GB
- a recovery partition with 501 MB
- two unassigned non partition sections with around 1.5 and 1.6 TB each.
How do I ensure a successful conversion now?
Thank you very much!
Check the disk partition style. I guess your disk is already GPT because MBR supports maximum 2 partition. RIght click the unassigned partitions and create volume.

Excellent video, but it did not work for me. On Disk 1, I have the OS in the C: partition. As your video shows, I created a new volume/partition. Hi. I'm only having four primary partitions c:, e:, recovery partition and system reserved partition. Yet the mbr2gpt validation fails. I'm having a lenovo ideapad 330 machine. what are the possible reasons?
Hi Ahmad, You should have at most 3 primary partitions.
I've posted a video showing steps to convert logical partition to primary partition. Please check my channel.
Excellent, I was able to figure out the problem with my hard drive, thanks a lot
