- In the process of moving Windows 10 from Legacy BIOS to UEFI using mbr2gpt command you might encounter the error that says "Cannot find OS partition(s) for disk 0" error. In this video I've addressed one of the reason behind this error.
THANK YOU!!! I spent the entire day trying to convert my MBR drive to GPT but could not find a way past the "cannot find OS partition" error. Your video contained the answer that I could not find elsewhere despite hours of searching. I had previously cloned the OS from HDD to SSD without the recovery partition. I'm subscribed!
Glad I was able to help
The great thing about these videos is the explanations provided. Everyone that watches is learning. Much of what you find with guides online is just a "hey do this" and "now do that" The viewer has no understanding of what this or that means. I for one really appreciate this resource. Thank you again sincerely.
Complete life saver. Thank you for taking the time to explain things and and showing each step. Sub for sure
Thanks for the sub!
did you manage to boot from your drive after the conversion was successful? im getting a no boot device detected? i have changed to boot to uefi in bios
@@DrGreenSA Yes, but had to enable secure boot in the bios: Press F2 or Del to get into the BIOS and turn on secure boot. After Windows 10 boots as desired and can pass the upgrade to Win 11 tests. Yea!
FINALLY. I had this issue MONTHS ago and decided to see if I can convert it again. So many resources online did not help but this was exactly what I needed. Thanks so much for posting this!
Glad it helped!
Thank you so much for all of your videos on the MBR2GPT topic! You made my day!
Thank you VERY MUCH for the complete follow-through explaination of how to handle the missing recovery partition for MBR2GPT. I successfully converted the partition after the operations!
Thank you so much! Clear and concise explanation. You are an absolute MBR2GPT stud!
Yes he is great! I had to stop and replay many times as I followed along on two PCs, but FIXED this issue totally, gave it a thumbs up, commented and subscribed, thanks again!
I had this problem with the missing recovery partition. To solve this problem, I upgraded Windows 10 from version 20H2 to 21H1 and Windows Update created a new recovery partition automatically. Then I was able to use MBR2GPT to convert Windows from legacy to UEFI bios with secure boot. Now it's ready for the upcoming Windows 11.
This after hours of searching and trying new things. This video fully fixed my issues!!!!!! thank you for your knowledge and wisdom of windows OS I appreciate you so much.
EXCELENT Explanation!!!! I spend an entirely day trynig to solving this until I found your video, thanks a lot!!!!!
Hello! I'm from Brazil and I would like to thank you for your video. I managed to make my disk with a GPT partition and I managed to activate the UEFI Bios. Thank you very much!
Guy, thank you so much for so useful tutorial... I've been struggled with a bunch of errors while trying to convert my disk with win 10... only your genius tutorial allowed me to get rid with this issue (sry for my English, it's my first steps...)
Glad I could help!
All of the videos on this topic were of amazing quality, thank you!
Glad you like them!
Listen, YOU ARE GREAT! You are the only one who has resolved my issue. I subbed and liked this. Your methods simply WORK! Thanks.
Glad I could help! Thanks for liking and sub 😊
This is the best video and explanation I found. Thanks a lot. Everything worked!
Glad it helped!
Thank you. Finally, after 3 months, the working answer was found. (Today I had 3 errors and all solutions I found out on your channel). I am very grateful to you. Bless you.
Glad it helped. Bless you too.
Excellent video! Saved me loads of time upgrading to window 11.
Glad it helped!
Finally the solution to my problem.
I had to delete recovery partition because mbr2gpt doesn’t work if you have more than 3 partitions.
Thank you!
Welcome!
Thank you so much! As a lot of other people here, this is the only solution that worked for me, after trying quite a lot of things!
Charlie, Thanks for commenting
Your videos helped me understand a lot from the windows boot system. In my case I had the error "Cannot open BCD for boot volume" which I solved by using the command bcdboot C:\Windows /s Y: /f ALL
Where C: is your windows partition and Y: is your boot partition. If you are in full standard legacy bios, the boot partition must be the System Reserve partition and should be active. This cmd installs all bcd files of type uefi or bios to the boot partition so it let us boot windows in the specified mode selected on the bios. I was able to get success validation in mbr2gpt after doing the above command. This videos can easily produce IT skills for people who work on this for a living. Cheers IT !
Hello! Can you please share more details about this solution? I am having the exact same issue...
@@miltosvouros6104 Hello, did you try the command I wrote? Did it work for you or still same error? Actually that's the only solution I know of, the "/f ALL" option was the trick for me when using bcdboot, you have to execute that line on command prompt in Windows with admin rights.
@@miltosvouros6104 my mistake, I fixed my bad typo, I wrote 'cdboot' and it's bcdboot
@@Aljjocolhey bro idk how but after doing the same thing u said like 5 times it worked on one and i got to boot it, thank u ♥️

Deleting recovery partition through bcdedit /delete totaly worked, ty man !!!
Thank you for your excellent video. It gave me the solution to fix the mbr2gpt error and eventually load Windows 11.
Glad it helped
I believe when I was trying to move my windows to my SSD that I messed up in this process. This has enabled me to have two separate drives that have active status and I deleted one of them. I am not running into a dual entry or dual operating system, but I also have no deleted a recovery drive yet I cannot convert or validate my drives. This drive is active for me along with another drive and therefore I cannot delete. I have followed the instructions on this video to no avail of fixing my error "Cannot find OS partition(s) for disk: 1"
I followed every step in the video, I got out my laptop and copied the file onto a usb and pasted that into the recovery folder on my PC where I'm having this issue and after everything I'm still having the problem "cannot find os partition"
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! It took me more than 6 hours but resisable BAR is ON!
WELCOME! enjoy!
Thank you. It's funny that I know just enough about working on my PC to get myself into this kind of
trouble lol.
THANKS!! Helped me fix my problem after many hours wasted on the internet. Great job 👍🏻
Welcome
You saved my sanity! Thank you!
You're welcome!!
Tanks dude! Thatcher was helpfull. First error was the -validation failed for disk 0-. The erworbenen note said that the last Partition was to close to the end of the disk. I deledet my third/ last Partition and resized it to c:. After that i got the -no OS-Error. Maybe with Ur solution it could have worked in the first place.
Did the exact same thing. Oops.
A very good explanation. Thank you very much!
Glad it was helpful!
That 100% worked, only tutorial that fixed my issue.
Good to hear
Sometimes, when cloning from an old drive, the partition becomes "inactive"... when using mbr2gpt from a WinPE Drive, it will also fail with "Cannot find OS Partition....".
The Boot partition (the drive with windows on) must be marked "active" on the mbr-disk or the mbr2gpt will fail.
Marking active can be done with diskpart too... (just "sel par #", and then "active")
Thanks a lot for sharing this solution, I was having a very hard time to convert it in order to do a system image .
You are welcome!
Is there a way to switch places of disk 0 and disk 1? My windows boot is on disk 1 (SATA SSD) and so is the recovery partition. However the active partition is on disk 0 (my HDD) and when the pc scans, it scans disk 0. So when the trying to mbr2gpt, I would like to switch my disk 1 and disk 0 so that the recovery partition can be found. Also because the windows is installed on my current disk 1. Is it possible to do that or do I have to create a partition on disk 0 because that's where the "active" partition is.
This helped a lot and allowed me to update from win 10 to 11. Thanks!
Glad it helped!
no, even after deleting my windows recoverysequence code and following your other videos such deleting the recovery partition and creating a new one (only a 3rd one) which I could only create with around 1,86GB instead of the 10GB like you did in the other video, but even then with a new partition on C the "mbr2gpt /convert /allowfullos" still failed and says "Cannot find room for EFI system partition" Are the 1.86GB not enough for this conversion? But why can I not create a partition with more than that, the command shr minimum=10240 failed, I tried everything, only around 2GB worked.
私もこのやり方で変換できました。ありがとうございました。
i was able to resolve the same error. thank you so much fron japan.
You're Welcome!
why does mine show i only have 1024kbs of free space in my 2 disks
After I disabled the recovery, at the time i will enable it. It was not found. Help please
I had to stop and replay many times as I followed along on two PCs, but FIXED this issue totally, gave it a thumbs up, commented and subscribed, thanks again!

This solved my migration to GPT issue; thanks!
Whatever I do I can't find Winre.wim file
It's working fine... It's already in gpt but my windows can't boot in UEFI and Legacy....
For anyone that still needs help:
Run the following command as an administrator:
bcdboot C:\Windows /s C:
I have the wimre.wim file and enabled reagentc /enabled but when i type mbr2gpt i still get Cannot find OS partition ...
Worked great! Thanks so much for posting this!!! 😃
You're welcome!
Thanks for this great piece of knowledge ! You helped me so much!
Happy to help!
This video saved me. Thank you so much! 😊
In my case it saying cannot find os for disks 1
genio me salvaste, todo el dia sufriendo para pasar el disco a efi al fin :D
my disk with Recovery Partition does not have that hidden file...
What If.... I've literally deleted both the OS partition and the Recovery partition and created a new disk from that unallocated space.
But now have no windows partition. Why can WindowsPE run all of MBR2GPT and yet suddenly require an existing OS partition to start the job? any workaround?
Very good video fixed my problems, thanks!
Glad it helped!
(Brasil), mesmo fazendo esse procedimento aparece o erro: Cannot find OS partition(s) for disk 1" erro
Unfortunately I'm the sad story as I followed the steps deleted the partition and still had the error
Really awesome video! you saved me hours of trouble!!
Glad I could help!
after efi partition created so the unalocated partition can't expand by c partition?
Great video, however it doesn't seem to help me in my case. The issue I have is that my OS is installed in SSD, however in disk management Disk 0 is my hard drive which is also a primary disk for some reason, and Disk 1 is my actual SSD that OS is installed on. I would appreciate if anyone could help me with this
Thanks Luka, Here is your solution ruclips.net/video/PYrTDnu3mx8/видео.html
Awesome mate, thanks a bunch❤
my disk 0 is not my c: drive its my storage drive and i dont have my OS on that disk why is it pointing at disk 0 anyway i cant figure this out.....
same problem
very cool - with that explaination it works
Thanks for watchin Peter

FindOSPartitions: Cannot open BCD for boot volume. This is my issue its showing in setuperr, any fix?
ive watched a few of your video's they are super helpful thank you so much! Edit: After the conversion was successful i was not able to boot from the drive. just got a no boot device found error. this is after setting to UEFI. any suggestions?
Thanks for watching. Change disk boot priority.
Another thing to say: mbr2gpt is a nice tool to recover from boot errors happening with old mbr disks... just use the tool to convert to gpt and all the erros will be gone.
I deleted the entry, but the "cannot find OS partition(s)..." error still prompts into my cmd. Now "reagentc /disable" shows "Windows RE is already disabled", but the entry recoveryenabled has the value "yes" and a direction {d37c...}. If I try to delete that direction, cmd shows "the system can't find the specified file".
I'm stuck :(
Please share the error log
@@itarmy2778 I solved the problem by using a tool called Eastus (it's a GUI for partition management or something like that, I just performed the MBR to GPT convertion in it).
Your video were still very userful to me because i learned a few intersting things. Thank you for answer me!
Thank you! you just saved the day!
Didnt work,so i just deleted everything for nothing basically

you're awesome man, nice video
I deleted my recovery partition and still it didnt work, it says Cannot find OS partition(s) for disk 1 (Yes my C drive is in disk 1). Someone please help!!
Solved. Had to copy my working EFI boot data to a place where mbr2gpt could find it with the command bcdboot c:\Windows /f bios /s c:
@@Alakazam_WR how to do that can you help?
Thanks for the video, my problem is that my OS drive (SSD) is disk 1 while my data drive (HDD) is disk 0...anyway to work around that problem?
You are welcome. No need to specify the disk parameter, by default it will convert disk 1 to GPT
I want to convert to GPT, But I do not have asystem reserve partiton. When I cloned the disk I must have missed a step
No issues, either delete the recovery environment or enable the recovery environment
Hi! How do you convert an ssd drive to gpt while installing windows 10?.. There used to be a Windows 7 Os installed on it with 2 Mbr partitions (Reserved and Main) and an OEM partition that's GPT..I always get an error while trying to convert it. Thanks in advance.
Hi Ravenn, MBR and partition and GPT partitions cannot co-exist on disk.
i suuccesfully followed your instruction and deleted the recovery file , but when i try to convert it still gives men the same error , i have 1 ssd and 1hdd installed , windows is located in ssd , but the hdd is labeled as disk 0 in the disk managment , and there is no recovery partition in the hdd , how to fix it please help
ruclips.net/video/PYrTDnu3mx8/видео.html
Did you ever solve it, I'm basically in the exact same boat as you, My Disk 0 is my HDD, My Disk 1 is where my SSD and boot partitions are, deleted recovery partition and all but mbr2gpt still says "cannot find room for the efi system partition" even with 563mb of unallocated space on the drive. What a frustrating issue, man.
@@Mukatutu ikr , i kind of fixed it , it required some tweaking in the bios using cmd during windows installation, and after that i did mbr2gpt and it surprisingly fixed jt
@@hassan5067 Do you remember what you did...I'm kind of stuck here :(
Thank you for this, 10:10 was helpful for me. Getting rid of the recovery ID so I could convert to GPT and be Windows 11 ready, should I choose to upgrade.
Welcome. Recovery partition is required to reset and upgrade the PC.
For dual boot OS you suggested to delete the 2nd entry in msconfig, how can I add it back later? I have dual OS windows 10, one on my ssd and one on hdd, as you suggested I would delete the entry for OS in SSD, but how can I add it back later so that I can convert to GPT on both.
Not sure if its way to late, but go to my pc and eject the other ssd/hdd you aren't using, or physically unplug the other drive.
when i wright reagentc /disable
this is the result : REAGENTC.EXE: Windows RE is already disabled.
I am still getting the cant find os partition error after all of this - is there anything else I can do without a fresh install of windows?
Please check the error log.

Honestly after messing around with windows for half a day, the best option is just to get the recovery file from another windows pc, I got it off an old windows 8 laptop that I rarely use and bingo, problem solved.
my reagentx.exe is not found, also my reagent is 😢Reagent_Merged
I followed along and now I don't have a recovery in my disk management and my OS is only booting in Windows boot manager. Do you have any advice for how I can get this changed so I can boot only from my SSD? I am really struggling... I changed from mbr to gpt, but the issue was it said it failed to updated reagent.
Hi Daniel, SSD should be first in the boot priority and disable Legacy/CSM from BIOS
@@itarmy2778 I think I disabled Legacy a couple months ago when I was making sure my PC was able to get Windows 11. I actually followed along with several of your videos and now my PC is able to get Windows 11. You are a genius.
My only concern is that Windows is booting up with Windows Boot Manager. Currently my only boot option in BIOS is disabled and it is Windows Boot Manager. Should I be concerned about this?
Boot Manager appears when you have multiple operating systems. What are the options appearing?
