- David Byrne performs the Talking Heads classic, 'Once in a Lifetime' live as part of his American Utopia tour.
What is David Byrne's American Utopia about?
David Byrne's American Utopia brings the Talking Heads front man's critically acclaimed Broadway show to a one-of-a-kind film directed by Oscar and Emmy-winner Spike Lee. Recorded during its late 2019 to early 2020 run at Broadway's Hudson Theatre in New York City, Byrne is joined by an ensemble of 11 musicians, singers, and dancers from around the globe, inviting audiences into a joyous dream world where human connection, self-evolution, and social justice are paramount. The special includes performances of songs from Byrne's 2018 solo album of the same name, in addition to popular Talking Heads favorites such as "Once in a Lifetime" and "Burning Down the House." The musical numbers accompanied with brief monologues allows Byrne to address various sociopolitical topics from police brutality, immigration, climate change to the 2020 presidential election.

I love Mr. Byrne's vision beyond description. 🌊
I concur
The passage of time has been rightfully kind to Mr Byrne. In the 90s and 00s I don’t think the general population really understood how great he was, but in the 10s and 20s his genius is really recognized, maybe even more-so than it was in the 80s.
Agreed. I hope he knows his impact ❤
これホント好き。
劇場に5回足を運んで、もちろん円盤も購入。
未だに観てる(聴いてる)。
David wearing that microphone headset makes this look like the greatest TED talk ever
david’s voice has aged like fine wine
He’s finally the right age to fully pull off the evangelical TV preacher look!
Lmao😂
I so love these guys! At 77 years........ and the days go by.
David Byrne's ability to almost effortlessly mine and reinterpret his own compositions and performance is formidable. I have seen countless versions of this song and every one seems and feels fresh and incisive.
This was one of the most original and audacious pieces I've ever seen. A master class in music, light, and movement. Will never forget that performance.
👌
Saw the show on Broadway a few years ago. Simply epic. I didn’t want it to end. David Byrne is a genius.
Completely outstanding. Pure genius, no less…so happy to be alive and realize this magic…
David Byrne always had a thing with gospel. It shows here.
It’s an experience that touches my soul every time I watch him perform his magic. 🙌🏼
David Byrne is a genius 😮
Wow! This guy is still amazing to this day!
By far the most impressive performance of this song.
Same as it ever was.Thank You Dave🎉❤XX
By and far the best performance I've seen of this song - ironically, long after it was released.
If I'm honest, he now sounds less like a preacher, and more like a teacher.
So great!
I was fortunate so this performance at The Shrine Auditorium! I was only invited by a friend and boy was it a treat! I came in blind and I was just mesmerized the whole time. The music, the lighting and the choreography was just perfection!
Same in Ireland ❤ARE we not sooo lucky!!!
He’s such an an amazing all around artist. I’m loving this!
The man’s a genius.
He sounds just as young as he was in the 80's when I first heard him. Will he ever stop blowing my mind?
No!He still has more energy than anyone I know! How does he do it?Loved him when a teenager love him decades on❤
David Byrne you wonderful musical grandpa
OH MY!YOUR MAKIN ME FEEL SO OLD!!!FIRST SAW TALKING HEADS DECADES AGO!OH NO!❤
@morganniciomhair8284 I wish I had been alive and seen them in the 80's
I'd like to posit a theory, there will come a point for most people when you pass a certain age and this song clicks. The moment when you stop being a kid, the moment when things "Stop Making Sense" :=). The moment when you realize no one really has all the answers, life is a long road and no one is going to show you how or why to do anything.
It was very philosophical and endures.
David despite to his syndrome still gold, singing acting and showing his energy through old body
syndrome ?
Love this song always..
David Byrne💯💥Epic! Epic! Epic! I LOVE this🥰🥰🥰💖 I Love watching entertainers from back in the days that are still here today🙏💪😀☺☺ It touches my Nostalgic nerves😁😁😁😄
Remain in Light. First CD I ever bought. Love love love!! If you’ve not seen the original promo video for the song, watch it immediately please thank you.
The cymbal player ❤❤❤
That is Jacqueline Acevedo
Fun Fact: The original "official" video for _Once in a Lifetime_ was directed by Toni Basil, of _Hey Mickey_ fame. Dancing was her first love, the song was just a one-off. The cheerleader uniform she wears in that video was her actual high school cheerleader's uniform. When the video came out, all her former HS friends went nuts seeing the uniform again for the first time in years.
Waouh.. Just FABULOUS ❤❤❤❤
Fantastic!
Genius!
I’m so happy that this Man is what he is…A Scottish Genius 🏴🌟🏴🌟🏴🏴🏴🏴
