I have some much older 9000's from around the 90's and 00's, that work better than any Mitsubishi or Blackwing pencil I ve ever tried. The 9000 is a drawing pencil, not meant for writing, However, the precision/dexterity and longivety of the tip, is second to none! As a seasoned artist,I've tried everything but no other pencil, comes close to the 9000. They look the smoothest, the most detailed on a finished drawing,, as also they have the best tonal graduation. The older ones, were designed for technical drwing the newer ones, their 8B now gets darker. I guess they did that, because now, their pencils are not used for technical drawing but for Free drawing/sketching and maybe writing too.
Tip :when buying Faber Castell products, avoid the red clamshell packages if you can and always choose their dark green ones. Those are made in Germany, while the red ones, are usually made in Asia...That being said, their best eraser, is made in Malesia (187120 Dust Free)

Thanks for the background on the 9000's. I never bought any because I always considered them an artist's pencil, but since these were given to me as a gift I wanted to use them. Thanks!

@@AlwaysAnalog. Dear Kevin, newbie here! Loving your content!... As someone who writes a lot (A LOT) I tend to chose among the art supplies because I believe there's a certain quality and smoothness that is obvious, erasers wise (not only). Oh, sorry about any English mistake, I'm Portuguese, writing from Portugal 🇵🇹 When it comes to Faber Castell erasers, as someone stated, the dark green ones are excellent, but, as mostly a writer, I tend to feel they are too heavy on, let's say, some 90gr paper (but they're great on Canson 😉). So, yes, Faber Castell Dust Free, ironically not made in Germany, is the best for me (I only use 2B staedtler pencils or 2B 0,4 Pentel leads) - and, if you want to compare an eraser with Pentel, trust us, go ahead and buy the FC dust free in white (or the dark green one!).
Congratulations for such a simple yet uber interesting channel!

@@joyinmymind Thank you so much, joyinmind! I appreciate you sharing your experience with erasers. I will try the FC Dust Free and see how it performs. Thank you!

Kevin, I have noticed when erasers have sharp, squared edges, there tends to be a lot eraser waste & less performance as it is first used. However, as the product is repeatedly used, forming more of a rounded edge, the eraser does a better job of graphite removal w/ less pilling. The German eraser appeared to be a softer material than the Staedler or Pentel. If this a correct guess, I could see where it's performance would be slightly inferior. Any input you could would be helpful as always. Thank you for this great review. Loved both pencils. Hello to Ralph, Wally, & Mary Ann. Happy New Year, God bless.

Hi Sallie - that's an interesting observation with erasers with squared edges. You may be correct because perhaps there is less surface area coming into contact with the paper as opposed to a rounded edge? I'll have to investigate! Happy New Year!

💯%. Erasers, in particular FB's, need to be broken in when they're brand new. That said, I don't think these erasers here match Pentel's or Tombow's, these seem the most basic and cheap product in FB's lineup. The Dust Free erasers are much more comparable, if my experience with mine when put up against the Staedtler Mars is any indication.

@@DinnerForkTongue. Hi! I'm completely new to the channel and I'm delighted I found it! That said, I agree with you: FCastell Dust-Free is more comparable to Pentel, for instance (thinking about the Ain White). Oh and I'm writing from Portugal, so I'm surrounded by FCASTELL and Staedtler items. Pentels erasers sold here are basic models and very small - as for Tombow, which I only have access through Amazon, I tried a black Dust-Free and, although it does perfectly the job, it's heavy and tiring. So FCastell dust free and the Sakura foam arch are always on my pencil case 😉

You have such a cool channel I’m not even into pencils but I’m totally hooked on these reviews.
I just ordered some Mitsubishis and the Pentel erasers you like.

@@AlwaysAnalog So far I have the Mitsubishi 9859, Tombow 51509 Mono, Staedtler Noris, and Staedtler Mars Lumograph all in HB. The Mitsubishi is my favorite followed by the Tombow, the Germans are tied for 3rd place but I’m not decided yet. I have just ordered the Musgrave professional #2 as well. For erasers I have the Pentel hi polymer, pentel Ain light, Mr. Pen and Mars plastic. They all work well but I’m favoring the Mars currently. Faber Castell dust free is on order. Damn you for getting me into this!

Faber Castell 187120 , is WAY better than this eraser you tried. Actually, it's THE best eraser for artists, along with the Tombow Dust Catch and the Tombow Mono Plastic. These 3, are THE best of the best erasers, that are readily available allover the world. Sakura Sumo grip, is close but not better and not easy to find. The only Pentel eraser I liked (still not as good as the others I mentioned) is the Pentel Light, which is designed for thin and smooth paper thus for people who use pencils for writing.

Thanks, greekveteran. I'm not an artist and only use pencils for writing, but I have tried the Tombow Mono and it is an excellent eraser. I've not used a Dust Catch or a Sakura Sumo grip, but have used a Sakura Arch and find it to do an overall good job. Thanks!

No1 is Tombow Dust Catchno2 I place both the Tombow mono plastic, and the Faber Castell 187120 (only that speciic FAber Castell eraser, the rest aren't as good). 3d place, Is Sakura Sumo grip, then Kokuyo and then Seed. Those are the best of the best! Those yo uhave, are more than enough for people who use pencils for writing. Mu opinion, is based from the artist's point of view! Keep 'em sharp and have fun!!@@AlwaysAnalog

The Pentel Ain black eraser, IME, erases exceptionally clean and without even having to use force. Definitely better than their basic Hi-Polymer line.
I only use the Hi-Polymer because it's wafer thin, and as such the only eraser I own that's appropriately precise to erase Japanese writing with. Like Kevin I'm no artist, so I can't speak on that front.
