Interesting videos, thanks for posting and good luck with your channel. You are too kind. Besides being clearly prohibited in eBay's policies, I think "drop shipping" from another retailer or marketplace is an incredibly dumb, lazy, and reckless way of selling. I wouldn't even qualify it as drop shipping. It's what bottom feeding hustlers that are unwilling or unable to fork up their own dough for even a little bit of inventory do to try to make a buck. You have absolutely no control over the inventory, it's just a roll of the dice whether they will still have the item in stock (and the price will be the same) when you actually make a sale. Then you have to trust someone else in a warehouse far away will do their job by packing it well and shipping on time. Then there is the awkward moment when the customer opens the box with some other store's name all over it and possibly a packing slip or receipt inside with your name on it. Then you get to deal with the potential complaints, the returns, and the bad feedback, not to mention getting the boot from eBay, and rightfully so. All for a couple of bucks profit ( a big maybe). It's just a bad idea, don't do it. It's shady af, plus it gives legit sellers a bad reputation. Thanks again.
Related to the multi item thing; If you have immediate payment turned on the shipping discount won't calculate correctly. I'm assuming it's the same for other discounts as well.
What, it's about time! Sure I got my product in one to two days but I also paid three times the price for it. This has happened on multiple occasions. It even had the post office confused once, as the package came under a different name the eBay sellers name but to my address. I really don't want to support Amazon but I also don't want to have to search through their broken search thing every time I want to buy something on eBay to make sure I'm not getting charged three times the cost. Sure Amazon is nice but I don't want to support them not supporting their workers. As the consumer I've been deciding to down vote shipping. But they've also gotten a lot sneakier used to be you would get a gift pack with a little gift receipt inside some sellers have figured out how to get around that.
When you were answering the drop ship question, you mentioned that EBay doesn’t like cancelled orders. Since I cross list items on other sites is that a warning to stop doing that? It’s probably rare to sell an item on different sites at the same time but, as a new seller I need all the help I can get.
I was searching for a particular Brooch on eBay and the listing on the first feed wasn't a top seller , didn't have good photos, not much feed back and item wasn't in great condition. Nor was it on a promotion, it made me realize good feedback, good photos, and top rated doesn't mean your listings will be displayed on the first feed. As I browsed there were other listings that should have been on the top feed but they weren't. I wonder if it had something to do with distance because of shipping. Idk
There are a lot of factors that go into determining what listings show up on the first page of search results. I talk about those here: ruclips.net/video/elNLd5v7n_o/видео.html
Question: When calculating profit for the year which method is the most accurate? Subtracting cost of goods (and supplies) you paid for that year and taking it out of your Net OR subtracting the price you paid for each item that sold that year (and supplies) from your Net? This is driving me crazy. One way shows a profit for me, the other way doesn’t plus paying tax.
So Amazon has a program to fulfill orders for non Amazon listings. This is called the Amazon multi channel fulfillment or MCF. This is perfectly acceptable I assume as eBay as listed as one of the supported platforms. I would say you should let people know it is acceptable if this is the avenue sellers want to use.
Not super familiar with MFC, but from how you describe it, it sounds like it is fulfilling Amazon orders from eBay inventory, which is totally fine. But doing it in the reverse is what I was talking about, and what eBay prohibits.
@@justinresells No it really is using Amazon to house your inventory and sell on eBay. Or any other third party platforms. I was looking into it recently. It allows you faster shipping and no inventory space required.
Amazon allows its sellers to select an FBA multichannel fulfillment option within Seller Central, which allows you to use their fulfillment centers for eBay orders and even those that come from a separate webstore, as well as your Amazon orders.
@@joesimon2169 no problem. i haven’t heard of this, but id still recommend caution as eBay explicitly says fulfilling from other retailers like Amazon is prohibited
with the amazon issue the seller may have their item in FBA which you can have shipped out to a ebay sale. So it's their item just being fulfilled by a shipping service
Hey Justin, any thoughts on assessing viewers' stores? You're giving us new sellers some great advice. I was just wondering if you would consider adding this as a segment in later videos. Thanks
If you're selling personal items, you shouldn't even mix that income with your business income. You are allowed, tax-wise, to sell personal items for less than you paid for them originally without declaring what you got for the item as income.
I agree with you but the problem is if you sell on your account and are 1099k it is included and you have to have an expense to offset profit, I have asked my cpa this question and he says just use what you made on the sale as an expense.
To me it would be much easier just to tally up all purchases over the year minus your sales for the year. What doesn’t seek this year will carry over into next year’s sales etc. Instead of inventorying every individual item. As long as you are consistent in doing this you’ll be fine.
you can expense it all when your purchase it ( the cash method ) or expense it when it sells ( the accrual method ) If you take the expense when you purchase an item ( the cash method , which is much easier and many small businesses choose this method, not having to show any inventory on the Schedule C , you would not be able to carry over the cost of those items into the next year as you already took the expense in the current year you bought them. This is really the only downfall of the cash method , you have nothing to expense in year two from year one purchases but its much easier for those that do not want to track an inventory.
@@cryptohashman1495 yes of course you would always have new expenses each year for new inventory , as long as your not expensing purchases twice ( carrying over costs to the next year) your good to go.
Cost of Goods for me is very, very rough to figure out for some of my listings. I sell a lot of lots of books. But I get the books from different sources. I end up having to wait weeks or months until I get a particular series from a particular author completed, and then, once I do, I list those 26 books, but by then, I have no idea where/when/how much I got each book for. I do keep track of the general spending [eg: Spent $14 on 40 books today, spent $20 on 100 books Saturday, etc]. But when it comes time to do the listing for a lot of books, I am clueless on what COG to assign the lot. :(
Justin I am now into my 4th day in a row with no sales. What the heck is going on? I have been part timing this for 4 months and never had this happen. Almost 400 items listed. I have been making offers, having sales, listing a lot of new items with tags. Still nothing! I feel like I need to call Ebay to see if I am in the doghouse with them.
Question ** i sent an order to a buyer and the post office attempted to deliver multiple times. Eventually the item was sent back to me. I also now owe a claim charge of 15$ I only made 7$ on the item! Its not even worth claiming the package. Now I have to refund the buyer. So I lost on shipping and im losing on claiming the package. Its ridiculous. Should I have only sent a partial refund to cover the 10$ i spent on shipping the item in the first place?
Do you ever get kind of nervous when an item sells really quick like that thermos? I would immediately think that I priced the item way too low if it sold within hours of listing.
I’ve run into so many people that are afraid to sell on eBay because of tax issues. That $600 a year on reporting to IRS has been such a deterrent for people.
So if you are selling a cup and saucer, for example, and you have other pieces that match that you are listing. You cannot have a picture in the background of those items, And referred to them in your description as other pieces listed? So how does that work when someone is selling and takes pictures in their kitchen with items all over the place, or on their desk with pencils random stuff, paper and a cuppa coffee. I’ve seen some very poor photograph displaying. There have been times when I have used a book for reference showing hallmarks, etc. for identification, but I put very clearly in my listing that you were only receiving the item listed And the photo or web information is for identification purposes only.
@@bessbowers5533 Ebay prefers a blank background so that here is no confusion. Usually common sense will prevail like showing a ruler for size. Or a quarter to show size (just don't use a coin to show another coins size). But showing a dish set and you are only selling one cup and saucer could give you INAD headaches. Scammers will use anything to get something free or get a discount.
@@bessbowers5533 put in your listing that you have other pieces in the set available and encourage the buyers to look at your other items. I definitely wouldn't put anything else in the background even if it's tempting to want to "stage" the item.
Hey Justin, do you ever use the "End and Sell Similar" strategy? If so, how does Flipwize handle it. Please answer on a video so others can get this info..
I have answered this is in a few past videos so probably won't again for awhile, but to answer here, yes, I do use this strategy frequently, and Flipwise retains the connection between all listings for the same item.
In a recent video you showed yourself doing product photos, but it did not look like you were doing square aspect ratio (could be wrong though). This seems to be common advice from what I've seen is to only use 1:1 on ebay. Thoughts? This has been a bit of a pain for me as my phone does not support square aspect ratios, which involves a dslr and transferring which slows me down.
How does that work for your cost of sale on a consignment sale? eBay shows you made the whole amount. If you are audited, how do you show that you didn't acutally make the full amount? When i sell something for someone else, I show the amount I give to them as my cost of sale?
Shoutout to All the non drop shippers who sit on items from minutes to years just to make sure we ship our own items!!!! Not going to lie drop shipping must be a headache sometimes.
Thank you for showing how you handle consignment sales for friends. Just this last week my neighbor asked me to sell his mother's estate items. Question: I'm assuming the income from the sale will be on your taxes and not your friend's taxes, so what do you normally put down for your cost of goods?
I actually benefit from dropshippers. They sell my products. I buy from them too especially if a product sells for $6 on amazon and they sell for $8 on ebay. I don’t need to purchase $35 to get free shipping.
Love your channel more than you know you make sense to me with ADH brain and dyslexic brain. I love your same pictures, but what you need to do is change it up once in a while and offer a freebie or an extra tip for the people that saw that.
How did you ship packages today? I'm confused in the opening of the video you said your wife still had to go to the post office, but the USPS was closed today. Were you shipping with FedEx and UPS? Just was confused by that statement.
I should have been more clear. She packed the items and bought labels so that I could know my shipping expenses and calculate a net return, but we won't take them to the post office until it is open.
In Flipwise, when you have multiple quantity listing how do you input what it cost you? Example: listing dishes with plates, bowls, cups - selling by the piece with different prices. The listing will likely sell in several different sales.
There is a new search screen format? Is it just a test? 1/3 of the page FEATURES a huge photo of 1 item and the other results are squeezed to the left side and scroll vertically about two at a time. Did I accidentally hit a a key that moved me into a BETA status. It’s really bad for checking current competition and glaringly obvious for high $ promo placement. The research tool will likely be reliable someday but not quite yet. Can I get the old grid back? Have not seen any complaints from other sellers. reliable someday but not quite yet.
Do you have any tips for packing the pampered chef stoneware for shipping? I remembered what you said your mom told you about the stoneware and picked up a few pieces at a garage sale for $2 each but I’m nervous to list them because I’ve mostly sold stuff I can throw in poly bags. Should I double box? Thanks! Or if anyone else has any tips!
Hi Justin, I bought a Lot of 400 vhs videos and approximately 10 were worth $40+ each. The rest are selling for $5-6 and some with free shipping. Should I even bother with those or what would you do?
I noticed on your previous video that you sold items on consignment. Is it worth your time for the amount of money you’re getting back? I understand that the inventory is free but to me it doesn’t seem to make sense when you’re doing all the work for half the money. Whatever profit you make you still need to pay taxes on the total amount of profit. What if one of those games didn’t work? That reflects negatively on you. To me it’s not worth the risk. Thanks
Some nimrod called Paul J Lipsky is all about drop shipping through eBay. He has 119K subs and 2K views per video (curious). He should be watching your channel.
Larry, it does matter. It is dollars in and dollars out. The remainder is the taxable income before expenses shipping/state tax/etc. you pay $1 and sell for $10, you pay $9 to the IRS regardless (minus ship, etc). Maybe you could have asked and sold the market value at $10,000 and paid $12,000.
@@freddyrussell6611 the safest way in regards to the IRS rules on selling personal items, is to value your personal items at what it sold for , this zeros it out so it shows no profit made. The IRS rule is the lower cost of either the original purchase price or the current market value. Taking a big loss could be a red flag.

If I can't find a product that I sold, I always go on Amazon and buy the same product there and "drop ship" it to the buyer using Amazon Prime(even if I have to spend quadruple the price that it sold for). I've never had a problem so far. I've sold 34,000 items on eBay, so maybe it's not in their best interest to kick me off the platform after I've made them millions.
Sorry not trying to prove you wrong. Just making sure everyone who cares knows it is a perfectly acceptable practice.
@@joesimon2169 no problem. i haven’t heard of this, but id still recommend caution as eBay explicitly says fulfilling from other retailers like Amazon is prohibited
TLDR: the title is referring to drop shipping and starts at 24:35
Check the description and top comment for all time codes!
Thank God!
with the amazon issue the seller may have their item in FBA which you can have shipped out to a ebay sale.
I had someone try to tell me I had to discount my "distressed" Carhartt for them...I said no.
@@mac-be2me no I get that but your always continuing to buy goods.
@@cryptohashman1495 yes of course you would always have new expenses each year for new inventory , as long as your not expensing purchases twice ( carrying over costs to the next year) your good to go.
Hi Justin. Can we see a closeup of your globe and lamp in the background of your videos? They look cool.
New Carhartt is just stiff and uncomfortable to wear, worn in is the best and still has a lot of wear left to it!
I wonder if that package from Amazon is someone who sells on EBay and Amazon and their item was at the Amazon warehouse.
Thanks Justin's wife for shipping and we'll have a talk about only washing one shirt a week for his profile pic.
Biggest mistake new resellers make?.... making taxes waayyyyy more difficult than they actually are
I’ve run into so many people that are afraid to sell on eBay because of tax issues. That $600 a year on reporting to IRS has been such a deterrent for people.
Ebay has stated Do Not show items in your picture that the buyer is not getting.
How about ordering like a ac adapter that you didn't have in stock for an item you sold and did have in possession?
You should find out if you can replace just 2 tires that’s what I did on my AWD
Unfortunately they're at about 50% tread life so it made more sense t just replace them all. Oh well!
Yeah the eBay app keeps reverting to 4:3 for some reason and sometimes I don't notice for a few days before switching it back to 1:1. Annoying!
Good information once again Justin. Thanks! I have a Flipwise question. What is considered a "new seller" and "small store"?
Anything under 25 listings!
New seller and small store is for folks who have less than 25 items listed/sold.
How does that work for your cost of sale on a consignment sale? eBay shows you made the whole amount. If you are audited, how do you show that you didn't acutally make the full amount? When i sell something for someone else, I show the amount I give to them as my cost of sale?
you just need to record the payout to the person you're consigning for as a business expense, since it was not profit for you.
Question: I'm assuming the income from the sale will be on your taxes and not your friend's taxes, so what do you normally put down for your cost of goods?
that's right. you just need to record the payout to the person you're consigning for as a business expense, since it was not profit for you.
@@justinresells Thx Justin! So -- cost of goods would be $0, and business expense would be the 50% of the net profit that I give him?
@@operannieonebay9477 yep
I actually benefit from dropshippers.
They sell my products. I buy from them too especially if a product sells for $6 on amazon and they sell for $8 on ebay. I don’t need to purchase $35 to get free shipping.
9500 views in 9 hours!!! Congratulations
Didnt even notice it was the same picture lol
How does the flipwise work? Is the monthly subscription for items that you list or items sold?
help.flipwise.app/article/28-how-does-flipwise-calculate-the-size-of-your-store
Love your channel more than you know you make sense to me with ADH brain and dyslexic brain. I love your same pictures, but what you need to do is change it up once in a while and offer a freebie or an extra tip for the people that saw that.
I reuse Amazon boxes. It keeps all the cardboard out of my small trash bin 😂
I don't look at the thumbnails. I just watch the videos. My stuff will ship tomorrow.
In Flipwise, when you have multiple quantity listing how do you input what it cost you? Example: listing dishes with plates, bowls, cups - selling by the piece with different prices. The listing will likely sell in several different sales.
Flipwise expects the total cost for all units in a multi-quantity listing. It will then split that cost evenly across all units.
@@justinresells Thanks. Good to know.
I came across an account that was just using Amazon to sell items. They marked up the prices and the handling time was kind of long.
I’m a top rated seller and I don’t think it matters that much as far as selling quicker. It’s nice to get the discount of final value though lol
Thanks!
Or if anyone else has any tips!
double boxing is a good idea

Good Morning from Germany 🙂
How do you know someone is drop shipping your item. I have bought things on eBay for friends and had the item shipped directly to them.
Hi Justin, I bought a Lot of 400 vhs videos and approximately 10 were worth $40+ each. The rest are selling for $5-6 and some with free shipping. Should I even bother with those or what would you do?
donate them
@@justinresells Thank you
I have pictures of myself in the different shirts that I were in videos, so I can reuse the picture with the same shirt.
Thanks!
as someone who actually has the items that i sell and doesn't dropship, that thumbnail and half-title scared the living bodankadonk out of me.
Has not moved my stuff any faster with top seller status
Is flip wise available in a mobile app?
help.flipwise.app/article/10-does-flipwise-have-a-native-ios-or-android-app
I noticed on your previous video that you sold items on consignment. Is it worth your time for the amount of money you’re getting back? I understand that the inventory is free but to me it doesn’t seem to make sense when you’re doing all the work for half the money. Whatever profit you make you still need to pay taxes on the total amount of profit. What if one of those games didn’t work? That reflects negatively on you. To me it’s not worth the risk. Thanks
I don't do it very often, and only did it in this situation to help a friend.

What is drop shipping
I never noticed your thumb nails are the same 😜

You price items at market value. It doesn’t matter how much you paid for it.
Ive been to Bloeslaweic!! Polish pottery is huge and americans go there specifically to buy the pottery. My friends were in the airforce and discovered it and when they were stationed in Germany and I visited we went to Poland for the weekend and my friend easily spent 1000 dollars on new dishes. I bought some bowls and cups and I honestly wish I bought more. Polish pottery is huge!
I bought a small Polish casserole dish at a garage sale and only took a week to sell. Gut pick and learned to keep an eye out ☺️
If I can't find a product that I sold, I always go on Amazon and buy the same product there and "drop ship" it to the buyer using Amazon Prime(even if I have to spend quadruple the price that it sold for). I've never had a problem so far. I've sold 34,000 items on eBay, so maybe it's not in their best interest to kick me off the platform after I've made them millions. It's a win-win for me, -if they kick me off I'll be content, Good Riddance eBay.
So do you then take Amazon's tracking number and input it manually onto the buyers order?
@@HeyMsVal Yes,...if it won't let you, just mark the item as "shipped" and don't enter a tracking number,...but message the buyer the new tracking number just so you have proof....in case the buyer claims they didn't receive the package.
I am more concerned about what I can learn and care less about thumbnails. People just cant focus and are petty always picking at something. Listen to the content and learn something quite your griping.😂
