    We have a 2008 Ford Mondeo Mk 4 with a ABS light on in this video we show how to replace the wheel bearing because of the the pick up on the wheel bearing affect and the ABS sensor
    We will be showing in future of videos how to properly test sensor with an oscilloscope and how to diagnose exactly what is wrong

    The best way to slide the hub back onto the bottom of the shock absorber is to tap a small chisel or screw driver into the gap where the pinch bolt crimps the hub closed, the chisel opens the gap and you can slide the hub on with no effort or hammer required.

      And if I had bothered to read other comments I would have seen MrLouthguys comment below suggesting a similar and better way LOL

    That bearing will be damaged when fiiting
    . You have to fit the bearing using the outer race as a load area and then fit the inner when it's in using the middle as a load area

      There is more than one way to skin a cat just because you think there is only one way to do it doesn't mean there is this car is still on the road now and the bearing is still good

    Great to see the real world videos, I'm a mechanical process engineer, and find design engineers are always reinventing the wheel. I've see the most stupid designs to save money, and all they do is create future hardships. Working on a MK3 Mondeo ATM, without all the lifts and kit, it's a pain, long gone the tapered wheel bearings, and rear wheel drive, that can take minutes, not hours to fix. I would like to round up all the design engineers, that learned on PlayStations, and CAD, and put them on a production line, or in a workshop for 2 years, maybe then "Stupid" would not be so common hahaha
    Thanks for your true to life videos.

    Good info but when pressing in the new bearing the press load should be on the outer race of the bearing not the inner. Possible for the bearing to break up or the balls to mark the bearing races. There's s a special split collar to support the outer race when pressing or pulling in the new bearing though you more than likely got away with it.

      Hi BnLG, first off I'd like to thank you for making this great video. I'd not much idea how to change the front wheel bearings on my mk3 Volvo V70 (same hub etc as Mondeo Mk4) and your video really helped a lot. But I think Peter F has a point and if you get a proper GEN2 bearing puller/presser, you don't have to remove the hub from the suspension leg and there's no bending strain placed on the hub itself when pressing out the bearing.

    I'm about to do one of these on the missus motor.
    Everything I'm reading/seeing says to use the special tool, but you just fire them in old school. Its over 2 years since you done this - did the bearing ever wear out prematurely or was it fine?
    I've also seen mention of putting the bearing in the freezer overnight, and then heating the stripped hub carrier up in an oven for an hour at full whack - seen it said that it just "drops" in. Then of course you rapidly cool the whole thing down before the bearing grease gets cooked - any input?
    I'm trying to avoid buying the tool, all the ones aimed at DIY look crap like they possibly would only do a couple of bearings before failing!

    • @bodgitandleggitgarage
      @bodgitandleggitgarage  5 лет назад +1

      Hi mate you can get special tools that are very expensive to do this on the car but you do not need them of course the bearing is ok if the bearing wasn't ok I could not do this for a living but I did absolutely nothing wrong people been doing it this way for years and still do so there's no problem

    • @PurpleHelmet
      @PurpleHelmet 5 лет назад

      @@bodgitandleggitgarage - exactly as I thought mate, thanks for the info!
      I've got by most jobs on this car so far that apparently you "need" special tools for - there's always a workaround if you think outside the box... I sometimes think it's so the bar for new mechanics can be set lower, the tools make it idiot proof 😆
      Looks like I have a press to build then 😂
      Keep up the great work buddy and thanks again for taking the time to reply!

      @@bodgitandleggitgarage - got it fitted more or less the same way you done here and so far, so good!
      I did heat the hub carrier up to ~200 degrees and freeze the bearing overnight, just to reduce the pressure needed to push it home and it seemed to work - I done this because I had to Jerry rig a press with some steel frame, bit only had a 2tonne bottle jack.
      Went in like silk!
      Thanks again for the videos buddy, I'm no stranger to working on cars but tend to leave this type of thing to garages as I don't have a decent press - no more, and it's your video that gave me the confidence to get stuck in. Legend buddy 👍

    I know that this is a very old video, but DON'T DO IT THAT WAY!!!! You can clearly see rust chipping from the calliper lug closer to the mechanic (10:38 lug on the left) which proves that the lug is bending. This lug is the one that will bend causing the calliper to misalign and uneven wear of brakes.
    There are tools to remove the bearing integrated with the wheel hub and they allow this to be completed on the car.

    Hello mate, got an error message on mine saying cruise control unavailable, come up while driving on a really bumpy gravel road, do you think its likely an ABS sensor has gone wrong? also scanned it and it is bringing up ABS related codes... Cheers

    • @bodgitandleggitgarage
      @bodgitandleggitgarage  5 лет назад

      Hi mate it could be a few things the first thing you need to do is get a scantle and get all your wheel sensors up in a graph driving down the road and see which one drops out then concentrate on that one it could be your ABS sensor the wiring a broken reluctor wheel broken pick up in your wheel bearing or even that ABS module but my guess is problem with the abs pickup but you need to check it out

    • @bodgitandleggitgarage
      @bodgitandleggitgarage  5 лет назад

      Hi mate yes you can replace Just A Studs you can hit them out with the hammer there's a few ways of getting them back in but it is always best to get them pressed back in you can use an old stud and nut but you can cause damage so just be careful doing it that way
